ISLAMIC ARTICLE :- ~ The Word “Muslim” – What it Means to Me

The word alone triggers such different reactions in different people.
The literal definition of the word Muslim is "one who submits,"
meaning one who submits to Allah, believing in Him and obeying His
commandments.
More specifically, the word Muslim is the participle of the same
Arabic verb of which Islam is the infinitive. The feminine form is
Muslimah , though afemale Muslim is often referred to as simply a
Muslim.
There are many false stereotypes about Muslims in the West, or one
might say in the non-Muslim world in general, and also many
misconceptions among Muslims themselves; but I will not go into those
in this article.
Instead, I'd like to share mythoughts and feelings on hearing the word
Muslim and contemplating its meaning. I am using the word in a
gender-inclusive sense.
Muslim
Faithful. Allah is his Master,and the Quran is the wellspring of his
life. Muhammad ibn Abdullah (pbuh) is his beloved Messenger, and all
the Sahabah * (see glossary at bottom for explanations of many terms)
are his guiding stars. Tawheed is his creed, taqwa his garment, imaan
his cool summer rain, and ihsaan his aspiration.
Muslim
Harmonized. She has chosen to live as Allah created us to live, in
harmony with all around us, including nature, human beings, and the
earth itself. She is plugged into the reality of the universe.
Muslim
Peaceful. His manner is gentle. He is not angry or violent. He would
never raise his hands except to defend himself, his family, or other
innocents.

Muslim
Generous. If I knock on his door, he will invite me in to his home and
offer me honey tea and baklawa. He will ask about my family, and be a
believer with me, remembering Allah so that his house remains a place
of life. When the salat (prayer) time arrives he'll spread the
musallas and pray with me.
Muslim
Kind. His eyes are soft and smiling. He shakes my hand firmly, with a
brotherly openness. If I need help, offers it. He is charitable, ready
to give hislast coin to someone hungry or ill, knowing that it will
return to him seven hundred fold, and that all deeds are recorded and
nothing is lost.
Muslim
My brothers and sisters. Arab, African, Indian, Thai, Filipino,
Chinese, European, American, Latino, and anyone around the world who
says, " Laa ilaaha il-Allahu, Muhammadan Rasul-ullah " (There is no
god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah)… they are my
family, my Ummah, my nation. If they are free, I breathe easier. If
they are fed, I sleep better. If they are mentally and
spirituallyconscious, I am liberated.
Muslim
Feeling each other's pain. If she is suffering or oppressed, I feel it
like the pain in my own limbs. If she is sad, lonely or confused, I do
whatever I can to guide and help. I cannever ignore her agony, any
more than I could ignore a sliver in my own eye.
Muslim
Friends, compatriots. When I see him, I feel comfortable and at ease,
whether I know him or not. I greet him with " As-salamu alaykum " and
I smile. I can engage him in conversation, even if I know nothing
about him. I know his language no matter what it is. If he tells me
something good I say ma-sha-Allah . If he mentions some blessing or
favor in his life, I say Alhamdulillah . If he mentions something he
hopes to do, I say Insha'Allah . We understandone another.
Muslim
At home in Allah's house. He can walk into a masjid anywhere in the
world andfeel at home. He can perform wudu' , prostrate himself to
Allah, take a copy of the Quran off the shelf and read it, stand
shoulder to shoulder in prayer with strangers, and feel a sense of
rightness and belonging.

Muslim
An Islamic worldview. Sheshares my world view and cultural
understanding, no matter her nationality or race. She knows that this
life is only a test, a moment of frenzy betweena sleep and a sleep,
like a desert flower blooming and wilting in a single afternoon. She
knows that the aakhirah is the home that calls; her heart is filled
with hope and fear of Judgment.
She steps out of her door each day and does the right thing, because
that is her covenant with Allah, and because she loves to do good. She
sees the signsof Allah in the miracle of a hummingbird or the majesty
of Mt. Kilimanjaro; in the swirls of her fingertips, and in the
knowledge of Allah that lives in her heart.

ISLAMIC ARTICLE :- ~ Shared happiness, happiness doubled

'Delad glädje, dubbel glädje: delad sorg, halv sorg.' – Swedish proverb.
Oh, you don't speak Swedish? Not to worry, neither do I. This proverb
literally means, "Shared happiness, happiness doubled; shared sadness,
sadness halved." It's about friendship, and how sharing your happiness
with friends makes it so much more special; and sharing your sadness
makes it much less painful.
Here are a few of my favorite quotations about friendship:
'"And the believers, men and women, are protecting friends of one
another; they enjoin the right and forbid the wrong." (Quran 9:71)
Narrated AbuHurayrah: Allah's Apostle (peace_be_upon_him) said:
"Verily, Allah would say on the Day of Resurrection: 'Where are those
who have mutual love for My Glory's sake? Today I shall shelter themin
My shadow when there is no other shadow but the shadow of Mine.'" –
Sahih Muslim
"The poor man is the one who has no friends." – Ali ibn Abi Talib (ra)
"A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks
out." – Anonymous
"Friendship is always a sweet responsibility, never an opportunity." –
Edgar Watson Howe
"When a friend is in trouble, don't annoy him by asking if there is
anything you can do. Thinkup something appropriate and do it." –
Charles Caleb Colton
"When the character of a man is not clear to you, look at his
friends." – Japanese Proverb
"A true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even
though he knows that you are slightlycracked."

QUR'AN AYATH EXPLANATION :- ~ Believers' hearts are with Allah at all times and in all places

Some people never consider the great blessings they enjoy throughout
their lives. Yet starting the day in good health every morning, being
able to breathe and see, being able to enjoy scents and food and all
beautiful things and beingable to appreciate love, respect and
friendship are all great blessings. In addition, possessing the
judgment with which to distinguish between good and evil, right and
wrong or beauty and ugliness is another great blessing bestowed by
Allah because that judgment enables one to avoid wickedness and the
evil whisperings of one's earthly desires and to choose goodness and
beauty instead. What one needs to do in return is properly appreciate
our Lord, to give proper thanks to Him and for one's heart to be full
of love and fear of Him at all times.
One's heart being with Allah at all times does not mean withdrawing
from all the preoccupations of the life of this world. "The heart
being with Allah at all times means";
Being aware of the greatness, might and power of our Lord at all times,
Knowing that He sees, hears and watches oneselfand all the other
entities one sees, and that He encompasses the entire universe,
Being aware that Allah is the sole judge and sole Lord of all things,
and thatHe is mighty enough to dowhat He wants when He wants,
And knowing that everything that happens in the life of this world,
whether it appears to be good or bad, is actually the functioning of
the destiny ordained by Allah.
A Person Whose Heart Is Always Full of Remembrance of Allah Has a
Clear Mind and Awareness
It is easy to recognize the clarity of mind of someonewhose heart is
always full of remembrance of Allah from his face and behaviorbecause
there is a great difference between the face of someone who believes
and knows that Allah sees him at all times and someone who is
heedless. No matter how attractive the face of someone who has
forgotten Allah, it will never reflect any spiritual beauty or an
expression full of love and meaning, humanity, humility and
intelligence. In contrast, the luminosity, beauty, intelligence and
nobility bestowed by faith and clarity of mind are strikingin someone
whose heart iswith Allah. In the Qur'an, Allah notes these features of
those who sincerely believe and exhibit an unsullied devotion to Him
and reveals it is easy to recognize them by "...the traces of
prostration" in their faces:
" Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him
are fierce to the unbelievers, merciful to one another. You see
them bowing and prostrating, seeking Allah's good favor and His
pleasure. Their mark is on their faces, the traces of prostration.
That is their likeness in the Torah. And their likeness in the Gospel
is that of a seed which puts up a shoot and makes it strong so that
itthickens and grows up straight upon its stalk," (Surat al-Fath, 29)
In addition, when we look at the lives of those whosehearts are
heedless of Allah, we see that it is these people who suffer the worst
consequences oftheir heedlessness. These people, who do not believe in
our Lord, Who created them from nothing and has bestowedso many
blessings upon them, avoid everything that might remind them of their
responsibilities to Him. They try to ignore the way that they and the
universe were brought into being from nothing, they ignore the fact of
death and the Day of Reckoning afterward, the countless blessings of
paradise or the infinite torments of hell because they realize that
only by heeding their consciences, they will have to reflect onAllah
and come to faith. They know that if they think about the existence of
Allah, they will remember His commandments and prohibitions and
thereforebe unable to follow their own earthly desires and passions.
Hearts Only Find Peace and Ease through Remembrance of Allah
True peace, joy and happiness can only come when people believe in
Allah and their hearts are with Him. One can never attain true joy and
happiness so long as remains heedless of Allah. Contrary to popular
opinion, all pleasures flee away if one does not havefaith because
people cannot live by moral virtues in places where thefact that Allah
is closer to one than one's own jugular vein is ignored, and where
there is no fearof His wrath. Lack of fear of Allah brings with it
ignorance of all bounds and lawlessness, and thus a degenerate
structure. Everyone behaves as they please.

ISLAMIC ARTICLE :- ~ Our Prophet's (pbuh)sincere, joyful, smiling and playful behavior is the finestmodel for all Muslims

How did the Companions describe our Prophet's (saas) joyful and smiling nature?
How did our Prophet (saas) joke with those around him?
What did the Companions say about our Prophet's (saas) sincerity and gentleness?
Our Prophet (saas) is a most worthy person of deep faith who burns
withlove and passion for Allah. The depth of our Prophet's(saas) faith
bestowed on him a great acuity, honesty and sincerity. The Prophet
Muhammad (saas)was influenced by none and feared Allah alone. He was
therefore punctilious over what is lawful and unlawful, and was well
acquainted with love, compassion and affection. Since the heart of our
Prophet (saas) rejoiced with love of Allah, this bestowed great joy
and fervor upon him.
Despite all our Prophet's (saas) responsibilities and all the
difficulties he faced,he was always lively and smiling because of the
joy of his faith and his moral values. This behavior of our Prophet
(saas), a role model for all Muslims, has come down to us through
accounts from our Prophet's (saas) Companions and wives.
Our Prophet (saas) Was Very Joyful and Smiling
Our Prophet (saas) alwaysspoke to the heart. With his joyful nature
and behavior, he told those around him of the love of Allah and the
joy of faith. Those who saw him were not only affected by his
knowledge; those who were present to hear him speak felt an easing and
relaxation in their hearts, and an ineffable joy. Our Prophet's (saas)
joyful and smiling nature produced a delight in and desire to worship
in all those who knew and saw him. Our Prophet's (saas) joyful,
smiling face and language and his spiritual depth are described as
follows by the Companions:
Hazrat Ali (r.a): "His smiling face and kind behavior to everyone made
him literally a father to the people. Everyone was equal in his sight
and presence." (Imam Muhammed Bin Muhammed bin Sulayman ar-Rudani, eat
Hadith Collection, Jam'ul-fawaid min Jami'il-usul wa Majma'ith-zawaid,
Vol. 5, Ä°z Press, p. 33)
The Messenger of Allah was always smiling of face and pleasant
natured... (Imam Muhammed Bin Muhammed bin Sulayman ar-Rudani, Great
Hadith Collection, Jam'ul-fawaid min Jami'il-usul wa Majma'iz-zawaid,
Vol. 5, Ä°z Press, p. 34)
The Messenger of Allah... was the most smiling and joyful of people."

Our Prophet (saas) also advised his people to havesmiling faces, and said:
"You cannot make people happy with your possessions, but you canplease
them with a pleasant face and good nature." ( Bezzar, Ebu
Yala,Taberani; Huccetu'l Islam Imam Gazali, Ä°hya'u Ulum'id-din, Vol.

"Almighty Allah loves him who makes things easy and has a smiling
face." (Huccetü'l Islam Imam Gazali, Ä°hya'u Ulum'id-din, Vol. 2,
Trans: Dr. Sıtkı Gülle, Huzur Press, Istanbul 1998, p. 444)
Our Prophet ( saas ) Was Very Vivacious and Pleasant-Natured
Our Prophet (saas) had a very special and profound sincerity, honesty
and closeness to Allah in his heart. This honesty meant that he
treated everyone he met with warmth and sincerity, and that he
responded to people's questions seriously and with close interest.
Hazrat Ali (r.a), one of the people closest to him, described the
climate in our Prophet's (saas) conversations and his relations with
the Companions as follows:
i. Those who took part in his conversations were hugely affected by
his honesty and sincerity.
" Rasulullah ( saas ) was the most generous of men, and had the
widestheart and most regular accent, he best discharged any task he
undertook and had the gentlest nature and finest conversations. Those
who knew him and were present at his conversations approached him with
love. One who describedhim said, 'I have never seen anyone like him,
neither before nor since.'Whenever he was asked for something, he
wouldalways give it." (Tirmidhi; Huccetü'l Islam Imam Gazali, Ihya'u

"... He would speak of things that made peoplelove one another and
brought them close together. He would not alarm or put them off.
Heattached importance to the leader of every tribe; he would offer
food and drink ..." ( Imam Muhammed Bin Muhammed bin Süleyman
er-Rudani, Great Hadith Collection, Jem'ul-favaid min Jami'il-usul ve
Majma'iz-zevaid, Vol. 5, Ä°z Press, p. 33)
