When is enough, enough?

Asalaamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu dear brothers and sisters,
I have a very serious problem that I would like to be advised. I am
married coming up on my 1 year anniversarry however I am not sure If
we will make it. Long story short; my husband iscompletely against
vaccinations. For himself and for his family. We all know if we go to
Hajj we will have to be vaccinated to leave the country. He says that
hes not against Hajj but WILL NOT BE VACCINATED in order to go.He says
they are poison and trash and serve no benefit at all.
When we were speaking about marriage he never once brought this up.
Onlywhen I became pregnant he started talking about it.First he was
very unbiased, watching documentaries with me and being very open.
However, the more pregnant I became the more aggressive he became with
his views. When asked how come you never told me your view about this
he claims that "he forgot" due to theexcitement of meeting. And that
ultimately he felt"I thought that I could get you to listen to me."
I had a terrible pregnancy due to this and was under terrible stress
all the time. So bad that my last trimester I was put on high blood
pressure meds.He told me that if I planned to vaccinate our baby then
we would have some problems. And furthermore that WE WILL NOT have
anymore kids together unless I agree not to vaccinate! That is the
ultimate ultimatum. Amongst all of this, our love life starts to
dwindle. Before we met in person I had lost about 75lbs and was still
losing weight so Icould be as healthy as possible.
He was attracted enough to talk to me and obviously marry me. However
as soon as I hit about 2-3 months of pregnancy (gained about 5-6 lbs
in that time) he didn't want to touch me. And no it wasn't because he
thought he would hurt the baby or looked at me as fragile. Ultimately,
he admitted that he wasn't attracted to my changing body due to the
pregnancy. Of course that crushed me, as it would any woman, or any
first time mother. I chalked it up as him being immature, selfish, new
husband etc. This was at 3 months pregnant imagine having to go
through that for another 6?
Now Alhumdulilah I have a beautiful son who is 3 months old. I have
began my excercise routine and am only about 15lbs from my previous
pre baby weight. Unfortunately, ourintimacy has not changed. He still
says that I am not attractive enough to motivate him to do his duties.
When I look at his internet history they are full of porn sites. I
told him that he can't have a marriage and an affair with porn. Which
one is it going to be I asked, the internet or me? "Get fit" he says.
Of course we are supposed to be attracted to our spouse but how canyou
make your wife feel this way after giving you such a blessing?
I don't know what to do. Ultimately, if we did counseling and
everythingis forgiven, the bottom line is that I have to be with
someone who has told me I will never be a mother again unless I don't
vaccinate. If we continue to be married.

Of duas and fears

I am someone who prays a lot to Allah. I ask for everything. I really
believein the powers of dua.
I am going through a hardtime lately and feel depressed. I've been
reciting "hasbinullahu wa ni'mal wakeel, ni'mal maula wa ni'mun
naseer". Alhumdullillah it has always helped me.
Lately, I found that you could also recite ayat-e-kareema when you are
distressed. I've always known that ayat-e-kareema is very effective
and powerful dua but I once heard it from a friendthat you shouldn't
mispronounce any word of it or else it could backfire.
So, I always felt reluctant reading it. Then lately, I thought, what
the heck, I'llread it carefully as I think it's a beautiful dua but
thecurious cat in me wanted to be sure so I googled it. Ifound it's
"jalali" i.e something you shouldn't recite in excess amounts and
should be read after getting permission from a shaikh or a scholar,
both of which didn't make sense to me so I disapprove. However, one of
the answers on anothersite said that as it is a verypowerful dua it
shouldn't be read for every small matter as it creates emergency in
heavens, so this dua should be recited only in times of real hardships
or calamities.
First it made sense to me then it didn't. I mean whatis a calamity?
Who will define what level of my hard times is declared calamity for
me? or how would I know my hard time isn't really hard for me. So, I
save it for the real hard times? and suppose if I read it when my
resulting is coming outand I fear I will fail, can't I recite it? Or
will I be violating the gravity of thedua?
Now some other questions regarding dua:
Suppose, if it does create"emergency" for the fulfillment of dua, is
that abad thing? I mean nobodycan force the will of Allah
(nauzobillah) and only if He wills it, it will happen. Besides, Allah
likes it whenwe keep asking Him in supplications, right?
Having said that, a question arises in my mind, can it happen that
Allah grants us something which is bad for us? I mean sometimes like
people say, when your dua isn't answered, something better is in store
for you. But if you still ask for it and you get it after a good time,
does it mean, the better was dismissed and you insteadgot what wasn't
really good for you?
A friend of mine once said: don't ask Allah what you want. Ask Allah
to give you what is good for u. I, however, believe that you should
ask Allah what you want and if He wills it, he may make it better for
you and grant it. He is after all, all powerful! Is my approach wrong?
Also, how long is too long? how long should you keep asking for dua?
Is there any limit to it? Sometimes, months go by and your dua is
still unanswered. Is that a sign that you should stop? and if you
stop, will all your previous duas be"expired" or you should think they
are pending and will be answered when the right time will come and
move on with your life? or keep making the dua?
Finally, an issue that's not really an issue but sometimes I panic to
thinkabout it. My mom went to an astrologer and asked her how my
future would be (I've recently found that it's a major shirk, I have
since repented and I will never try finding about my future from any
source whatsoever). So, this astrologer tells my mom that I would have
a very difficult married life. (this was supposedly told by another
astrologer too)so, I shouldn't think about marriage in near future. I
should instead focus on studying and possibly go abroad.
Anyhow, I know that no astrologer has any authority of predicting
myfuture. only, Allah knows best. yet, sometimes I fear what if it
comes true. NOT because the astrologer said so, but because I believed
it to be true for a long time, before hearing it from any astrologer.
I don't know since when, I developed this fear that I would have
difficulties in my married life. They say, when you fear something
strongly, it comes true. Now, I don't know how to get this fear out of
my mind. Although, I have overcome it but since I'm not gonna listen
to this astrologer and insha'Allah I am gonna marry in near future if
God wills it but sometimes, just sometimes my mind shiftsto "what
if?".
Could it happen that my marriage was destined to be at the age of 30(
happily married) but I findsomeone at 25 and pray to Allah that I be
married to him and my prayers areanswered and I do get married but I
face difficulties after it. Could it be that the dua changed my qadr?
Since I've chosento marry early?
Please tell me I should geta life and hold onto the rope of Allah even
more strongly and instill some sense into me. I really need to hear
some words of wisdom and good advice.

Wife has left me andwants to become a film actress

I am a 40 year male. Got married 10 years back. First 3 years of
unforgettable happiness and complete compatability.
Daughter born after complicated pregnancy during which wife stayed
with her parents. I visited frequently and talked daily. Another 2
years of near bliss.
Wife stayed at her parentsplace for higher studies. We would visit
each other frequently and go on vacations. Arguments and stubbornness
started. She became abusive and slightly violent. But fondness ,
understanding and openness continued. She came in touch with her
ex-boyfriends (including the one she wanted but did not marry due to
different religion) but she told me everything. She became very
materialistic and self-centered and tried to persue her dream of
becoming a film actress.
After 6 years of marriage she told me to keep my daughter and release
her from marriage. I tried to convince her. She went to her parents
place.
I talked to her parents but they only abused me. I told them some of
her very unholy habits / deeds( which cannot be written)but instead of
counselling her they abused me.
I continued to visit her at her parents place where I was almost (with
rare exceptions) regularly abused, insulted and threatened. On one
such visit, they crossed all limits- threatened to shoot me, throw me
out of the house, etc.. I stopped going to her parents place.
I loved her, cared for her like no person I have known, had dreams for
my daughter and was hoping good sense would prevail.
My in-laws are very far from Islam though they pretend otherwise. Like
they will tell others they are fasting and at home feast and laugh
about it.
I send gifts and letters to my 11 year old daughter whom I love more
than anything.
Now my wife has gone to Imam for annulment of marriage : fasak-e-nikah.
I am confused about why this happened, what should be my response,
what will happen to my daughter and other consequences.
Also why she has gone for fasak-e-nikah instead of khula.
Any frank opinions, advise,dua, guidance ?

How do I handle my wife’s mood swings?

I got married 4 months back alhamdulillah. My wife is a very good lady
alhamdulillah.We both stay in different cities. She is doing her pHD
and live in hostel and I'm working. So we meet on Sundays only.
For two months, everything was alhamdulillah going fine.But recently,
whenever she is in bad mood, she has started showing signs of
disliking me and said that many a times. She finds mistakes in many
actions of mine with regards to her. My in laws supports me so she has
stopped sharing her concerns with them also. But when in good mood,
she does acknowledge hermistakes and keeps on telling me to pray to
Allah to make her patient and good to me.
I love her alot and tried to soothe her feelings by telling her that
adjustment has to be doneby both of us. We may have to leave our
stated positions and move towards compromised positions.
I don't know how to soothe her feelings. I don'tunderstand her mood
swings and how to handleit.

I want to become Muslim but I don’t know how my familywill react?

Hello everyone,
I am 16 years old. A couplemonths ago, I met a boy. He then told me he
recently became Muslim. He was talking to me a little about what the
Quran says and I mostly believe everything was true. I know that Allah
hasto choose you. I believe hechose me when I was in class getting
ready to takea final exam and someonein the class asked if they could
pray, he's Christian. Then a girl asked "Wait, is anybody in here
Muslim?" In my mind I said to myself "I'm Muslim" and when they bowed
their heads to pray, I didn't participate at all I just sat there and
looked around the room.
I feel like apart of me wants to be Muslim, but I am scared of what my
family will think. And if I did become Muslim, I feel like it would
break my grandmas heart (she's Christian) because she always asks me
to go to church with her and I am basically her only good grandchild
all the rest are in and out of jail and etc. Also, I feel like my
mother will have a hard time respecting my decision and question me
about it. I know for sure I have a lot more to learn but for right now
I am going off off what I know so far. I feel like all my life my
family automatically mademe a Christian without mehaving a say so.
They automatically put mein a christian pre- school and so on. I never
got a choice to explore religions and find out what I really believe,
so I've now pronounced myself undecided but I do believethere is a
God. I was hoping someone will respond to this and give me some advice
on my situation and enlighten me some more on the beliefs, customs,
and way of life of Muslims. I also have a lot of questions as well.

I want out of this secret marriage

As per my first post, I am in a secret marriage with amarried
co-worker. The story is such a long and strange one that at times, I
feel soo evil, so hypocritical, so sinful and so lowly. But deep down,
Iknow I have a goodness inme, I am not a bad or evil person. I have
never intended to get involved with him nor get married to him whether
publicly orsecretly nor allow the marriage to continue up to now.
There are moments I feel Allah SWT is testing me through this marriage
thus I should patiently endure but most of time, I believe that He is
punishing me for succumbing to my nafs. God knows that I want to be a
BETTER person. I wantto put to be on the right path! I really want to
be a better Muslimah; A role model to my siblings: I never want to let
them down as they hold me at such high esteem yet I am weak and
indecisive in doing the right thing.
I just want you to advice me on how to break awayfrom this marriage as
I know it is not good for myDunya and Arkirah!! As you mentioned in
your previous post, the tendecyof him telling his wife and family
about me is very very slim. Each time I give him an ultimatum to
publicize our marriage so Ican live as dignified life as a married
girl instead of allowing people who always see us together to thinking
that we are in a secret affair, he always keeps on giving me excuses,
excuses and empty promises?
He always says that I haveto endure a little as marriage is always
about enduring, that I should endure just as his first wifeis
enduring, etc etc. But, I always tell him she is in a sense the
"official" wife whilst for me, he has decided to keep me as
the"unofficial" wife that the insecurity that comes withthat alone is
enough reason to make any endurance unjustifiable.
I know that if I had another job, I will be able to avoid him and make

that I have to see and work with him every single work day is just
making things way difficult for me. I really want out! I have to get
out of this marriage for my own sanity. I have been repenting, doing
dhikr and Duas but still I always listen to his empty promises and
hope things will get better but I know it wouldn't. That they will in
fact get messier.
Please don't want Allah to punish me any further as aresult of staying
in this secret marriage. I have already suffered a lot. Please tell me

ISLAMIC ARTICLE :- ~ Is my Nikkah valid ordo I need to do it again?

I would like to ask about my marriage. Those who are answering this
please be as specific in accordance to ISLAM.
Since Allah(swt) has guided me and inshallah will forgive me for my
sins. I would like to explain the scenario. I don't feel comfortable
approaching Imam or of someone with greater knowledge.
I have been married for 10years with children. Before I married my
wife, she was non-Muslim and married to an Atheist. According to her
she was living with him but no sexual relationship after gaining more
knowledge about Islam without accepting there and then, due to family
and not ready because of her situation. She did try to give him
knowledge about Islam but he refused to accept it. At the same time
they both had the shared property in their names. So, it wasn't easy
to just move out and also because of family shame.
She did marry him on her acccordance against her parents will. But
after she had accepted Islam she was still under the same roof as him
but seperate room. Thats when I meet her and we started dating and
pretty much after 3months of dating she sold the house and got
divorced. We were dating and (shaytan got both of us with weak iman
and took us on a ugly journey) had sexual intercourse after 3 months
doing our own nikah using the Quran and no witnesses (fearing my
parents won't accept her). After 2 more months my mum wasn't happy and
decided to get us married with proper Nikkah (I still stuffed up
byforcing her to have intercourse during her period). My question is:
1. Does Iddah (waiting period) apply in her scenario? With her first
marriage and with me?
2. Is our Nikkah valid or doI need to do it again?
3. I feel I have disrespected my parents and did not do the right
thing, should I tell them the full truth or just leave it as it is?
4. Any further advice?

Shab-e-Me'raj, the gift
presented to Hadhrat

Muhammadﻪﻠﻟ١ﻰﻠﺼ ﻫﻲﻠﻌﻤﻠﺳﻭ was blessed with seeing Allah
on the night of Me'raj and for a
believer, his prayer, is his
Me'raj (means of seeing Allah).
This is the reason why we are
told to concentrate fully during our prayer. 'Worship
Allah as though you
can see him and if you cannot
reach this state, then worship
Him with utmost humility
knowing that Allah indeed is watching you.' (Muslim) It has
been narrated by
Hadhrat Abu
Hurairahﻲﺿﺭﻪﻠﻟ١ ﻪﻨﻋ that the Prophet of
Allahﻪﻠﻟ١ﻯﻞﺼﻬﻴﻠ ﻌﻤﻠﺳﻭ said: 'A person is closest to Allah
when he is in the state of
prostrating, and for this reason
you should do dua (pray) for
as long as possible in this
position.' (Mishkaat Shreef, page 84, ba hawala Muslim)
From this we learn that the
night of Me'raj, for the Prophet
of Allah ﻪﻠﻟ١ﻯﻞﺼﻬﻴﻠﻌﻤﻠﺳﻭ , is also the night of Ascent and
it
is also a night of Ascent for his
Ummah. Mujadad-e-Islam
Hadhrat
Maulana Shah Ahmad Raza Khanﺓﻢﺣﺮﻬﻠﻟ١ﻪﻴﻠ ﻋ narrates: 'The prophet of
Allahﻪﻠﻟ١ﻯﻞﺼﻬﻴﻠ ﻌﻤﻠﺳﻭ didn't receive respect because
of things; instead things gained
their respect due to him.
Things that had no virtue,
Allah has connected them to
the Holy Prophetﻪﻠﻟ١ﻰﻠﺻﻪ ﻴﻠﻌﻤﻠﺳﻭ to increase their virtues and
value. The birth of the
Messenger of Allah
ﻪﻠﻟ١ﻰﻠﺼﻬﻴﻠﻌﻤﻠﺳﻭ was in the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal not
in Ramadan.He passed away
on a Monday not on a Friday
and he was born in his house
not in the Ka'aba. The month
he was born in, the day he was born on and his house has
become blessed and
virtuous.'
Nobody can ever put a value
on the night when the prophet
ﻪﻠﻟ١ﻰﻠﺼﻬﻴﻠﻌﻤﻠﺳﻭ got to meet and see Allah with his
own eyes. Nobody can ever
describe the night in which
Allah showered His Beloved
with numerous blessings.

Abu Malik at-Ash'ari (Radi Allah Anhu) reported: The Messenger of
Allah (sal-allahu- alleihi-wasalla m ) said: Cleanliness is half of
faith and al-Hamdu Liliah (Praise be to Allah) fills the scale, and
Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah) and al-Hamdu Liliah (Praisebe to
Allah) fill upwhat is between the heavens and the earth, and prayer is
a light, and charity is proof (of one's faith) and endurance is a
brightness and the Holy Qur'an is a proof on your behalf or against
you. All men go outearly in the morning and sell themselves, thereby
setting themselves free or destroying themselves.

But look at islam, women are treated in the same manner since their
youth and old age, because men can not notice wether the women is old

Islam considers a woman to be equal to a man as a human being and as
his partner in this life. Women have been created with a soul of the
same nature as man's. Allah (SWT) says in the Quran:
"O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single
person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He created his wife (Eve), and from
them both He created many men and women and fear Allah through Whom
you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut therelations of) the
wombs (kinship). Surely, Allah is Ever and All-Watcher over you."

"Resilience is contagious." -Amy Estrada. Sure, life comes along now
and thenand blows you off your feet. That's alright. You don't have to
have the answers. You don't have tobe superman or superwoman. When the
thundercloud opens up, who among us can stop the rain? When the
hurricane blows, who can stay on his feet? No one. What matters is
that you get back up, dust yourself off, take stock, and move forward
in the name of Allah. Others see that, and it rallies them.
Superman is no hero, he's impervious to bullets! Real heroes get hurt,
they get down on themselves sometimes, they're imperfect, they
struggle to pay the bills and raise theirchildren, they struggle to be
become stronger in their faith, but they struggle! They don't give up.
That's inspiring, and it'scontagious, and maybe sometimes it will be
someone else inspiring you, and maybe sometimesit will you, getting up
after the hurricane, showing us all how it's done.

Diabetes is a chronic (lifelong) disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood.

Causes, incidence, and risk factors
Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas to control blood sugar.
Diabetes can be caused by too little insulin, resistance to insulin,
or both.
To understand diabetes, it is important to first understand the normal
process by which food is broken down and used by the body for energy.
Several things happen when food is digested:
*. A sugar called glucose enters the bloodstream. Glucose is a source
of fuelfor the body.
*. An organ called the pancreas makes insulin. The role of insulin is
to move glucose from the bloodstream into muscle,fat, and liver cells,
where it can be used as fuel.
People with diabetes have high blood sugar. This is because:
*. Their pancreas does not make enough insulin
*. Their muscle, fat, and liver cells do not respond to insulin normally
*. Both of the above
There are three major types of diabetes:
*. Type 1 diabetes is usuallydiagnosed in childhood. Many patients are
diagnosed when they areolder than age 20. In this disease, the body
makes little or no insulin. Daily injections of insulin are needed.
The exact cause is unknown. Genetics, viruses , and autoimmuneproblems
may play a role.
*. Type 2 diabetes is far more common than type 1. It makes up most of
diabetes cases. It usually occurs in adulthood, but young people are
increasingly being diagnosed with this disease. The pancreas does not
make enough insulin to keep blood glucose levels normal, often because
the body does not respond well to insulin. Many people withtype 2
diabetes do not know they have it, although it is a serious condition.
Type 2 diabetes is becoming more common due to increasing obesity and
failure to exercise .
*. Gestational diabetes is high blood glucose that develops at any
time during pregnancy in a woman who does not have diabetes. Women who
have gestational diabetes are at high risk of type 2 diabetes and
cardiovascular disease later in life.
Diabetes affects more than 20 million Americans. Over 40 million
Americans have prediabetes (early type 2 diabetes).
There are many risk factorsfor type 2 diabetes, including:
*. Age over 45 years
*. A parent, brother, or sister with diabetes
*. Gestational diabetes or delivering a baby weighing more than 9 pounds
*. Heart disease
*. High blood cholesterol level
*. Obesity
*. Not getting enough exercise
*. Polycystic ovary disease (in women)
*. Previous impaired glucose tolerance
*. Some ethnic groups (particularly African Americans, Native
Americans, Asians, Pacific Islanders, and Hispanic Americans)
Symptoms
High blood levels of glucose can cause several problems, including:
*. Blurry vision
*. Excessive thirst
*. Fatigue
*. Frequent urination
*. Hunger
*. Weight loss
However, because type 2 diabetes develops slowly, some people with
high blood sugar experience no symptoms at all.
Symptoms of type 1 diabetes :
*. Fatigue
*. Increased thirst
*. Increased urination
*. Nausea
*. Vomiting
*. Weight loss in spite of increased appetite
Patients with type 1 diabetes usually develop symptoms over a short
period of time. The condition is often diagnosed in an emergency
setting.
Symptoms of type 2 diabetes:

*. Increased thirst
*. Increased urination
Signs and tests
A urine analysis may be used to look for glucose and ketones from the
breakdown of fat. However, a urine test alonedoes not diagnose
diabetes.
The following blood tests are used to diagnose diabetes:
*. Fasting blood glucose level -- diabetes is diagnosed if higher than
126 mg/dL on two occasions. Levels between 100 and 126 mg/dL are
referred to as impaired fasting glucose or prediabetes. These levels
are considered to be risk factors for type 2 diabetes and its
complications.
*. Oral glucose tolerance test -- diabetes is diagnosed if glucose
levelis higher than 200 mg/dLafter 2 hours. (This test is used more
for type 2 diabetes.)
*. Random (non-fasting) blood glucose level -- diabetes is suspected
if higher than 200 mg/dL and accompanied by the classic diabetes
symptoms of increased thirst, urination, and fatigue. (This test must
be confirmed with a fasting blood glucose test .)
Persons with diabetes need to have their hemoglobin A1c ( HbA1c )
level checked every 3 - 6 months. The HbA1c is a measure of average
blood glucose during the previous 2 - 3 months. It is a very helpful
way to determine how well treatment is working.
Treatment
The immediate goals are totreat diabetic ketoacidosis and high blood
glucose levels. Because type 1 diabetes can start suddenlyand have
severe symptoms, people who arenewly diagnosed may need to go to the
hospital.

15 distinct regions identified in Antarctica

Scientists have identified 15 distinct regions of Antarctica and its
near-shore islands, based on the geography, geology, climate, flora
and fauna of the ice-free areas, including the biologically distinct
Antarctic Conservation Biogeographic Regions.
Australian Antarctic Division terrestrial biologist Aleks Terauds, who
led the study, said thisis the first time a continent-wide
assessmentof the biogeography of Antarctica has been made using all of
the available biodiversity data.
"The new research amalgamated 38,000 terrestrial records, including
the diverse biology such as microbes, invertebrates and plants.
Itrevealed a complex ecosystem which can be divided into 15 very
distinct and potentially delicate biogeographic regions which are
characterised by different climates, landscapes and species," Terauds
said.
"Previously terrestrial Antarctica has been dividedinto two main areas
based on aspects like geography geology or specific types
ofbiodiversity," Terauds said, Diversity and Distribution Journal
reports.
Introduced species are identified as one of the biggest threats to the
Antarctic terrestrial ecosystems, particularly in a warming climate,
according to an Australian Antarctic statement.
"With about 40,000 peoplevisiting Antarctica over a summer, as
tourists, scientists or station support personnel, there's the
potential that more species will be accidentally transferred to and
within Antarctica."
"While quarantine procedures are already in place for
inter-continental travel, such as cleaning clothing and equipment
before arriving in Antarctica, there are less biosecurity measures for
intra-continental movement," he said.
"The Antarctic ConservationBiogeographic Regions represent an
important basis for biosecurity measures to manage the risk of
species, including species native to Antarctica, being transferred
from one biogeographic zone to another."
Terauds presented the newresearch at the Scientific Committee on

The Supplication andAl-Qadar

There is one group that perceives this question to be valid and so
they have abandoned the supplication and are of theview that there is
no benefit in doing it. These people, along with their excessive
ignorance and misguidance are in clear contradiction, for if we were
to follow their opinion, it would require us to reject all the
different means for attaining something (desired).
So it can be said to one of them:
If satisfying your appetite and quenching your thirst were already
decreed for you, then there is no doubt that they are going to come to
pass, whether you eat and drink or you don't. And if they were
notdecreed for you, they will not come to pass, whetheryou eat and
drink or you don't.
And likewise, if a child were decreed for you, then you will
definitely receive it, whether you have sexual intercourse with your
wife or you don't. And if that was not decreed for you, then it will
not come to pass. Thus there is no need for marrying, having sexual
relations and so on and so forth.
Who says such a statement? Is it one possessing common sense or a
beast? Rather, even the animal has a natural inclination (fitrah)
towardsseeking the means of attaining something (desired), which (for
example) will give it sustenance and livelihood.So the animals have
more common sense and possess more understanding than these types of
people who are like cattle – nay, far worse!
Some of them try to be clever and say:
Preoccupying oneself withsupplication falls into the realm of worship
solely – Allaah will reward the onesupplicating, without that having
an effect on what he is asking for in any way. According to this type
of person, there is no difference between supplicating and
refrainingfrom supplicating by heartand tongue, with regard to that
having an effect onattaining what is being asked for. And according to
them, the relation of the supplication to it (what is being asked for)
islike its relation with silence. There is no difference between them.
Another group, more slick than this one says:
Rather, the supplication is a sign, which Allaah displays as a symbol
that amatter has been carried out. So when Allaah grantshis servant
the ability to supplicate, it is a sign and a symbol that the matter
he was requesting has been carried out. This is just as if one were to
see afrigid black cloud during the winter season. It is a sign and an
implicationthat it will rain.
They say: Similarly is enacting good deeds with respect to reward, and
committing disbelief and sins with respect to punishment – they are
pure signs for the occurrence of (either) reward or punishment – not
means (by which the result will be attained).
Likewise, according to them, with the matters of breaking, kindling
and destroying – none of thesethings serves as a means for the
occurrence (result) of a wreck, fire and death, respectively. Nor is
there any connection between those things and what results from them,
other than the fact that they are normally paired together – not that
one is caused due to the means of the other!
They have contradicted perceptual observation and common sense with
this opinion, as well as revelation and fitrah (natural inclination),
not tomention all of the other intellectual groups. Rather,those with
intellects laughat them!
The correct view: There is a third category, apart from those
mentioned by the questioner. And it is that the decreed result is
preordained along with itsproper means, which lead to its occurrence.
One of these means is the supplication. It is not preordained just
like that, without any means (leading to its occurrence), rather it is
preordained along with its proper means (which will ensure its
occurrence). So when a person comes across the means, the decreed
matterwill come to pass. And if he does not come across those means,
the decreed matter is denied.
So satisfying one's appetite and quenching one's thirst are
preordained with (the means of) eating and drinking. Children are
preordained with (the means of) sexual intercourse. Harvesting crops
is preordained with (the means of) planting and, the withdrawal of
thesoul from an animal is decreed with slaughter. Likewise, entrance
into Paradise is preordained with (good) deeds, while entrance into
the Hellfire is preordained with (bad) deeds.
This category is the true one. And it is the one that the questioner
has been deprived of and not granted.

Can Dua Change Qadar?

Question:
Dear scholars, As-Salamu`alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. I know
that belief in the Qadar (Divine predestination) is a prerequisite for
sound faith. However, I'dlike to know if there is any conflict between
theQadar and Du`a'? How can the Du`a' influence one's Qadar, which is
already predetermined by Allah, Most High. Jazakum Allah Khairan.
Answer:
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be
upon His Messenger.
Dear brother in Islam, we really thank you for showing keenness on

confidence you have in us. We hope our efforts meet your expectations.
In Islam Du`a' is the essence of worship as stated in an authentic
Hadith. Qadar (Divine predestination) is a pillar of faith in Allah,
as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned when asked
byAngel Jibril (Gabriel), peacebe upon him, about Iman (faith),
saying: "It is to believe in Allah, His angels,His Books, His
Messengers, and the Last Day, and to believe in Divine predestination,
both the good and the evil thereof."(Reported by Muslim)
The eminent Muslim scholar, Dr. `Atiyyah `A. Lashin, Professor of
Jurisprudence at Al-Azhar University, states:
"Qadar, or Divine predestination is of two kinds:
1. Unconditional predestination
2. Conditional predestination.
Du`a' has nothing to do with the first kind, while itmay change the
second one. This ruling is based on the Hadith that reads:"Nothing
could change theQadar except Du`a'."
(Musnad Ahmad, Vol. 5, Hadith no. 277; Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Vol. 3,
Hadith no. 139; and classified as Hasan (good) Hadith by Al-Abaani in
Sahih Al-Jami`, Hadith no. 7687)"
Shedding more light on this issue, Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi , former
president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and member of
the Fiqh Council of North America, answers:
"Du`a' has great power; it can change many things. We should always
pray to Almighty Allah and should never give up hope in the acceptance
of Du`a'. Du`a' is the most important act of worship. It does not mean
that we or any other human or jinn have power, but it means that
Allah, the Almighty, has power and He can do whatever He wills. Du`a'
is the recognition and acknowledgement of our dependence upon Allah,
Most High, and our deep faith that He can change anything. There are
many verses in the Qur'an and many Hadiths that emphasize the
importanceand necessity of Du`a'. TheProphet, peace and blessings be
upon him, said, "Du`a' benefits in the things that have happened as
well as the things that have not happened yet. The calamity comes
down, but the Du`a' confronts itand they may continuously wrestle
until the Day of Resurrection." (Reported by Al-Hakim.)
In another Hadith, it is reported that the Prophet,peace and blessings
be upon him, said, "Nothing can change the Qadar except the Du`a'…"
This Hadith is reported by several authorities on Hadith, such as Imam
Ahmad, Ibn Hibban, Al-Hakim, and Ibn Majah… etc. Most of the scholars
ofHadith consider it an acceptable Hadith.
There is no contradiction between our faith in the power of Du`a' to
Allah and in our belief in the Qada' and Qadar of Allah. Scholars have
explained that there are two types of Qada' (Allah's Decrees):
a. those that are known asQada' Mubram (absolute decrees);
b. and those that are known as Qada' Mu`allaq (conditional decrees).
The absolute decrees do not change, but the conditional one may change
if and when the conditions are fulfilled. Such decrees are based on
the fulfillment of causes, as well as Du`a'. However, it is important
to keep in mind that every thing is inthe pre-existent knowledge of
Almighty Allah. The knowledge of Allah, Most High, does not change,
but the conditional decrees may change. Allah Almighty says in the
Qur'an: "Allah effaceth what He will, and establisheth (what He will),
and with Him is the source of ordinance." (Ar-Ra`d: 39)/

The Prophet (PBUH) said, If supper is served and the Iqamath for
(Isha) prayer isproclaimed, start with you supper first."
