*- WHAT ISLAM SAYS -* - Islam is a religion of Mercy, Peace and Blessing. Its teachings emphasize kind hear tedness, help, sympathy, forgiveness, sacrifice, love and care.Qur’an, the Shari’ah and the life of our beloved Prophet (SAW) mirrors this attribute, and it should be reflected in the conduct of a Momin.Islam appreciates those who are kind to their fellow being, and dislikes them who are hard hearted, curt, and hypocrite.Recall that historical moment, when Prophet (SAW) entered Makkah as a conqueror. There was before him a multitude of surrendered enemies, former oppressors and persecutors, who had evicted the Muslims from their homes, deprived them of their belongings, humiliated and intimidated Prophet (SAW) hatched schemes for his murder and tortured and killed his companions. But Prophet (SAW) displayed his usual magnanimity, generosity, and kind heartedness by forgiving all of them and declaring general amnesty...Subhanallah. May Allah help us tailor our life according to the teachings of Islam. (Aameen)./-

The Angels

--
Angels are unseen beings of a luminous and spiritual substance that
act as intermediaries between God and the visible world. Belief in
their existence enters into the definition of faith itself: "The
Messenger believes in what was sent down to him from his Lord, and the
believers: Each one believes in God, His angels, His Books, and His
Messengers" (Quran II:285; cf. II:177, IV:136).
The word for angel, malak, whoseroot meaning is "messenger", occurs
more than eighty times in the Quran and repeatedly in the Hadith. The
Islamic concepts of creation, revelation, prophecy, theevents that
occur in the world, worship, the spiritual life, death, resurrection,
and the central position of man in the cosmos cannot be understood
without reference to the angels.
In philosophical and Sufi texts, angelology is often an essential
component of both cosmology and spiritual psychology, since the angels
enter into the definition of both the macrocosmand the microcosm.
Angels in Qur'an & Hadith
The angels belong to the "world of the unseen" ('alam al-ghayb). When
the unbelievers asked why an angel had not been sent down with the
Prophet Muhammad, Godreplied, "Had We made him an angel, yet assuredly
We would have made him a man" (VI, 9).
Even if the angels were to be seen by the outward eye, they would
appear in forms suitable for the visible world (al-shahadah).
Moreover, if God had sent down an angel, then"the matter would be
judged, and no respite would be given [to mankind]" (VI, 8)
For, "upon the day when they seethe angels -- no good tidings that day
for the sinners ... On the day when the heavens and the cloudsare
split asunder and the angels are sent down in a grand descent, the
dominion that day will belongtruly to the All-Merciful; it will be
aharsh day for the unbelievers" (XXV, 25-26)
The Quran often refers to the angels' eschatological function not only
at the resurrection, but also at death and in heaven and hell: "The
angel of death, who hasbeen charged with you, will gather you; then to
your Lord you will be returned" (XXXII, 11).
"If you could only see when the evildoers are in the agonies of death
and the angels are stretching out their hands: 'Give up your souls!' "
(VI, 93)."Believers, guard yourselves and your families against a Fire
whose fuel is men and stones, and over which are harsh,
terribleangels" (LXVI, 6).
"Gardens of Eden which they shallenter ... and the angels shall enter
unto them from every gate" (XIII, 23).
Several of these angels are mentioned by name. Ridwan
("Good-pleasure", IX, 21; LVII, 20) is taken to be the proper name of
the angel given charge of paradise, whereas Malik ("Master",XLIII, 77)
rules over hell. Nakir and Munkar, the two angels who question the
dead in their graves, are mentioned in many hadiths; traditions also
speak of Ruman, who subjects the dead to various trials.
The sacred history of the Prophet's mission provides many examples of
explicit angelic activity in key events. As an infant, the Prophet was
visited by"two men clothed in white, carrying a gold basin full of
snow."
In the Prophet's own words, these angelic beings "split open my breast
and brought forth my heart. This also they split open, taking from it
a black clot which they cast away. Then they washed my breast with the
snow."
God revealed the Quran to the Prophet by means of the angel Gabriel,
who also acted as his guide on the Night of Ascension (Laylat
al-mi'raj). Many witnesses reported the participation of angels in
battles fought by the nascent community.
Concerning the battle of Badr, the Quran itself says: "When thy Lord
revealed to the angels, 'I am withyou, so confirm the believers. I
shall cast terror into the unbelievers' hearts, so strike off their
heads and smite their every finger'" (VIII, 12).
In this world, before death the angels record the deeds of men:"There
are over you watchers, noble writers, who know whatever you do"
(LXXXII, 10-12)."Over every soul there is a watcher" (LXXXVI, 4). The
Prophet added, "They mind your works: when a work is good, they praise
God, and when one is evil, they ask Him to forgive you."
The Prophet also reported that angels take turns watching over men and
assemble together at theafternoon and dawn prayers."Those who spent
the night among you then ascend, and their Lord asks them -- though He
is best informed about you -- how they left His servants. They reply,
'We left them while they were praying, and we came to them while they
were praying.' "
In the same way, when people gather together to remember (dhikr) God,
"the angels surround them, mercy covers them, peace descends on them,
and God remembers them among those who are with Him."

Stop trying to control others, and change yourself instead

"Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of apeople until they
change what is in themselves." (Quran 13:11)
Brothers and sisters, each of us must accept that we can only change
ourselves. That is the key to changingour situations in life. We can't
control anyone else's feelings or actions. We cannot make anyone love
us, treat us better, respect us even when we deserve it, accept us
even when we are right, befriend us even when we are sweet, orbelieve
in us even when we're true.
Dua' is not a magic spell that allows you to controlother human beings.
Neither will Allah coerce anyone to love us or acceptus. Of course He
can – He has power over all things –but it is not His way. Allah
created us with free will, the ability to choose our own paths in
life, and He does not take that away bycontrolling our emotions
orcompelling us down predetermined roads. Yes, everything is written,
but that does not mean it's forced, only that the outcome is known to
Allah in advance.
I am thinking specifically ofpeople who imagine that there is some
special dua' (prayer) they can say to make someone love them, or stop
abusing them and treat them kindly instead. There is not, to my
knowledge, and Allah knows best. And the same principle extends to all
human interactions: dua' isnot a charm or potion that you can use to
control others.
This is true even in very important matters such as guiding people to
the truthand bringing them to the worship of Allah. We can certainly
pray for Allah to guide someone, but we must understand that Allah's
guidance consists of showing clear signs, no more. It's up to the
individual to make the choice to believe or not. Allah does not force
the outcome.
"And if there was any Quran by which the mountains would be removed or
the earth would be broken apart orthe dead would be made to speak, [it
would be this Quran], but to Allah belongs the affair entirely. Then
have thosewho believed not accepted that had Allah willed, He would
have guided the people, all of them?" (Quran 13:31)
In other words Allah could certainly force everyone into submission if
He willed, or He could manifest miraculous and powerful signs – such
as the earth splitting or the dead speaking – that would compel all
human beings to submit in fear and awe, as He said:
"If We willed We could send down a sign from heaven to them, and then
their necks would be lowered to it in subjection." (Quran 26:4).
For that matter, Allah couldhave created us all in subjugation from
the start. He chose not to.
If Allah chose to leave such critical issues within the realm of our
free will – vital issues such as acknowledging the truth ofAllah's
power, worshiping Him or serving false gods, following the Prophets or
rejecting them (and some even killed their Prophets!)– if He chose to
leave theseall-important issues within the realm of our agency, and
under the dominion of our discretion, do you thinkHe is going to
violate the principle of free will in order to force your boyfriend or
girlfriend to love you and come back to you?
I'm sorry, but this is what itseems to come down to forsome people.
They actuallyspeak of committing suicide if the boyfriend/girlfriend
does not return (ignoring the fact that this relationship
isIslamically unlawful in the first place), then they want a dua' that
will force the object of their desire to fall in love, as if dua' is
some kind of magic powder froma fairy tale.
Nor is dua' going to force your husband to stop abusing you and become
kind and loving. Nor will it change occupiers into happy campers so
that they quit their occupation, or turn tyrants into hippies who will
wear flowers in their hair and open the political prisons. I'm not
belittling these oppressive situations – they have haunted me for most
of mylife, and I consider myself ahuman rights activist. And I'm not
saying that dua' is not effective against oppression – actually the
Prophet (pbuh) has told us that the dua' of the oppressed is one of
those categories of dua' that is guaranteed a response.
Narrated Abu Ma'bad, that the Prophet said, "… and be afraid of the
curse of an oppressed person because there is no screen between his
invocation and Allah." Sahih Bukhari: Volume 2, Book 24, Number 573.
But the response is not going to be forcing someone else to change
heart, or become loving, kind or peaceful. That is an artificial
expectation and it doesn't work that way.
What, then? Is it all hopeless? No, far from it! The hope does not lie
in changing someone else, it lies in changing yourself. That's the
whole point. Your free will and power do not extend over others, but
they do encompass yourself....

Winter is the Season of the Believer

"The best season to a believer is the winter, its nights are long for
those who wish to pray, and itsdays are short for those who wish to
fast." - Imamal-Hasan al-Basri (rahimahullah)
See Amatullah's concise butinspiring post on MuslimMatters.org: "Why
Winter is the Season of the Believer."

The Power of Dua - - The dua can change our life, our outlook, and our fate. It is the most potent weapon of a believer.

The dua can change our life, our outlook, and our fate. It is the most
potent weapon of a believer.
~
Once Prophet Muhammad (sal-Allahu-alayhi-wa-sallam) passed by a people
who were suffering from some affliction. "Why don't they make dua
(prayer) to Allah for protection?" he said. With all the suffering and
disasters Muslims are facing in various parts of the world, the
question canbe directed to all of us today.
It is not that we have forgotten dua completely; we refer to it
regularly. Butour ideas and practice regarding dua have become
distorted. Often it is reduced to the level of a ritual. Generally it
is considered when all our efforts have failed — an actof last resort.
It is belittled through actions and sometimes even with words. Is it
any wonder that today mostly a mention of dua is meant toindicate the
hopelessness of a situation?
What a tragedy, for dua is the most potent weapon ofa believer. It can
change fate, while no action of ours ever can. It is the essence of
ibadah or worship. With it we can never fail; without it we can never
succeed. In the proper scheme of things, dua should be the first and
the last resort of the believer, with all his plans and actions coming
in between.
The most empowering conversation
Dua is conversation with Allah, out Creator, our Lord and Master, the
All Knowing, the All Powerful. This act in itself is of extraordinary
significance. It is the most uplifting, liberating, empowering, and
transforming conversation a person can ever have. We turn to Him
because we know that He alone can lift our sufferingsand solve our
problems. We feel relieved after describing our difficulties to our
Creator. We feel empowered after having communicated with the All
Mighty. We sense His mercyall around us after talking to the Most
Merciful. We get a new commitment to follow His path for that is the
only path for success. We feel blessed with each such commitment.
Our first and last action
In every difficulty our first action is dua, as is our last. We ask
Allah to show us the way to handle that difficulty; we seek His help
in following the path He shows to us; we seek His aid in making our
efforts successful. When we fall sick, we know that we cannot find the
right doctor without His Will; that the best doctor may not be able to
diagnose our condition without His Command; that the best treatment
plan will not succeed without His Permission. We make dua for all of
these. We make dua before we seek medical help, while we are receiving
it and after it has been delivered.
The essence of worship
Dua is the essence of ibadah. A person engaged in dua affirms his
belief in Tawheed (monotheism) and shuns belief in all false gods.
With each dua his belief in Allah grows. He beseeches Him, affirming
his own powerlessness. A person seriously and sincerely engaged in dua
understands exactly the relationship between himself and the Creator
and affirms it through his actions. That is the essence of worship!
Additionally, such a person can never become arrogant or proud, a
logical result of true worship.
Our most potent weapon
Dua is our most potent weapon in all struggles of life as well as in
jihad in the battlefield. During the battle of Badr, the Prophet
Muhammad stood up all night in prayer seeking Allah's help in the
battle between unequal armies that would follow the next day. In the
decisive battles against the crusaders, Sultan Salatuddin Ayyubi was
busy day and night. His days were devoted to Jihad. His nights were
spent making dua, crying, seeking Allah's help. This has been the
practice of all true mujahideen.
Big and small
We should make it a point to make dua for all things big and small. It
is the beginning of wisdom to realize that big and small are arbitrary
labels that aretotally irrelevant in this context. Nothing is too big
for Whom we are asking from; nothing is too small for the one who is
asking. That is why we have been taught to ask Allah when we need
something as small as shoelaces. We should ask as a beggar, as a
destitute person, for that is what we in reality are in relationship
to Allah. At thesame time we should ask with great hope and conviction
that we shall be granted our prayers. We should remember the Hadith:
"There is nothing more dear to Allah than aservant making dua to Him."
On the other hand, a prayer lacking concentration and conviction is no
prayer at all.
All times and all needs
We should make dua at all times, not only during times of distress.
The Prophet Muhammad said: "Whosoever desires that Allah answers his
duas inunfavorable and difficult conditions, he should make plentiful
dua in days of ease and comfort."

My Greatest Need is You

Your hope in my heart is the rarest treasure
Your Name on my tongue is the sweetest word
My choicest hours
Are the hours I spend with You –
O Allah, I can't live in this world
Without remembering You–
How can I endure the next world
Without seeing Your face?
I am a stranger in Your country
And lonely among Your worshippers:
This is the substance of my complaint.

I Asked Allah for Strength

"I asked Allah for strength and Allah gave me difficulties to make me strong.
I asked Allah for wisdom and Allah gave me problems to solve.
I asked Allah for courage and Allah gave me obstacles to overcome.
I asked Allah for love and Allah gave me troubled people to help.
I asked Allah for favors andAllah gave me opportunities.
Maybe I received nothing I wanted, but I received everything I needed
– Alhamdulillah."

Every day do your best, Allah will do the rest

Wash your heart every morning with salat, then warm it up with dhikr.
Begin each day with faith in you heart, and know that no matter how
steep the mountain, Allah is with you as you climb. Every daydo your
best, Allah will do the rest.

Invite Allah’s Power and Wisdom Into Your Life

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH
MOST GRACIOUS, MOST MERCIFUL

Allah's power and wisdom are limitless and beyond our comprehension.
But guess what? There is a key that brings Allah's infinite wisdom
into play in your life. That key is prayer. Salat and dua' are like a
special hotline that transcends the veils of space and time and goes
directly to Allah. Prayer is the means and the voice that Allah has
given us to speak to Him, ask His forgiveness, and request His
assistance and wisdom in any situation that we are dealing with. And
it works.
"And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I
am near. I respond to theinvocation of the supplicant when he calls
upon Me. So let them respond to Me and believe in Me that they may be
guided." Quran, Al-Baqarah 2:186
Miracles happen every day. Do you not believe that miracles can happen
in your life as well? Do you think that you are too insignificant for
that? SubhanAllah. Allah sees andknows every fallen leaf, every grain
in the darknessof the earth; and He knowsyour innermost thoughts. He
is closer to you than your jugular vein. (Quran 50:16)
Do you think that Allah's nearness to you is because He mistrusts you?
No! Allahhas nothing to fear from you, and therefore nothing to
mistrust. Allah is near to you because He loves you. He is near to you
because He cares about you and understands your pain. He is near to
you so that He can help you. You matter, as much as the ocean, the
trees and the stars. You areimportant to Allah, not as ageneral
concept, but you, as an individual person with your own private needs
and fears. You only have to turn to Him, and call upon Him; and His
wisdom, power and guidance will manifest in your life.
I personally went through a very difficult period whenI was younger.
At the time I felt that I had failed in life. I was beginning to
feelsome despair. But I kept my faith in Allah, and I prayed to Him in
the day and the dark of the night. I trusted Allah, and I knew that He
would not abandon me. And then the last person I would expect, an
acquaintance who I hardly knew and who had no reason to care about
meor my situation, suddenly took an interest and beganhelping me.
Within a short period of time I had a job, and was able to get my own
apartment, and my life had changed completely. It was literally a
miracle. Even now it blows my mind. Allah stepped into that
situation, and He made the impossible possible, because I believed in
Him and I prayed.
Miracles happen every day. Allah hears you. You matter.
"O You the Ever Living Whosustains all that exists! O You Who created
the heavens and the earth without precedence. O You,Who Owns the glory
and the honor, none has the right to be worshipped except You. We seek
refugewith Your mercy. Grant Us success in all of our matters. Please,
do not abandon us to rely on ourselves even for an instant nor on any
of Your creation." – (dua' mentioned in Tafsir ibn Kathir)

ISLAMIC ARTICLE :- ~ Self-Sacrifice

--
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH
MOST GRACIOUS, MOST MERCIFUL
- ~ - ~ -
Those who think that life is restricted to this earthly life do not
put themselves out for others unless they stand to get something out
of it, and they will not take the initiative to help someone in need.
This is because they do not realise that we will receiveperfect
recompense in the afterlife for the good and the evil we have done in
this world. In some verses of the Qur'an, Allah draws our attention to
their perverse way of thinking:
Truly man was created headstrong in greed. (Surat al-Ma'arij: 19)
Have you seen him who turns away and gives little, and that
grudgingly? (Surat an-Najm: 33-34)
As for those who are tight-fisted and direct others to be
tight-fisted, and hide the bounty Allah has given them, We have
prepared a humiliating punishment for those who disbelieve. (Surat
an-Nisa': 37)
A person must rid himself of the selfishness and meanness of his self.
In this regard, our Lord reveals the following:
So have taqwa of Allah, as much as you are able to, and listen and
obey and spend for your own benefit. It is the people who are
safe-guarded from the avarice of their own selves who are successful.
(Surat at-Taghabun: 16)
For this reason, a person who lives according to theteachings of the
Qur'an will avoid selfishness and make an effort during the day to
share what he owns with others around him. For example, he will take
pleasure in sharing his food with someone who is hungry. He will
happily give prized possessions to someone whose need for them is
greater than his own. He will give whatever is surplus to his needs to
theneedy (Surat al-Baqara: 219). He knows that he will receive a
greater reward for it in the afterlife. In the Qur'an, Allah shows us
the exemplary behaviour in this regard of the Companions of our
Prophet:
Those who were alreadysettled in the abode, andin faith, before they
came, love those who have emigrated to them and do not find in their
hearts any need for whatthey have been given and prefer them to
themselves even if they themselves are needy. It is the people who are
safeguarded from the avarice of their own selves who are successful.
(Surat al-Hashr: 9)
Believers take delight in the knowledge that their act of
self-sacrifice has made someone else happy. They live with the inner
peace of mind that comes from acting out of agood conscience and
knowing that Allah is pleased. Even when they themselves are in need,
they will give up their own rights without a thought. They will never
mention their act of self-sacrifice, they will not behave in order to
be praised or singled out and they will try to make the other party
not feel obliged because of the favour they have done./

Allah is near to Human

--
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH
MOST GRACIOUS, MOST MERCIFUL
- ~ - ~ -
Many people think Allah is far away. However, as stated in the Qur'an,
"...Surely your Lord encompasses the peoplewith His knowledge..."
(Surat al-Isra': 60), He is very near. He sees and knows every aspect
of a human being, and hears every word he utters. He isknowledgeable
of even one's inner thoughts. This is related in the Qur'an as
follows:
We created man and We know what his own self whispers to him. We are
nearer to him than his jugular vein. (Surah Qaf: 16)
Allah is so near to man that He hears the prayer ofeveryone-even if he
prays inwardly-and it is He Who answers it:
If My servants ask you about Me, I am near. I answer the call of the
caller when he calls on Me. They should therefore respond to Me and
believe in Me so thathopefully they will be rightly guided. (Surat
al-Baqara: 186)
Allah knows what a person harbours in his heart. He knows whether he
engages in a deed to earn His consent, or to satisfy his own lower
soul.Allah reminds us that He knows our inner thoughts:
...Know that Allah knowswhat is in your selves, sobeware of Him! And
know that Allah is Ever-Forgiving, All-Forbearing. (Surat al-Baqara:
235)
Though you speak out loud, He knows your secrets and what is evenmore
concealed. (Surat Ta Ha: 7)
Allah's Messenger, the Prophet Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant
him peace) also reminded Muslims that when they prayed Allah is very
close to them by saying, "You are calling a Hearer, One very close by;
The One Who you are calling is closer to each one of you."(Al-Bukhari
and Muslim)
As He is with you at every moment, Allah is with you as you are
reading this article; He sees what you are doing and knows whatyou are
thinking. This fact is related in the Qur'an as follows:
Do you not see that Allahknows what is in the heavens and on the
Earth? Three men cannotconfer together secretly without Him being the
fourth of them, or five without Him being the sixth of them, or fewer
than that or more without Him being with them wherever they are. Then
He will inform them on the Day of Resurrection of what they did. Allah
has knowledge of all things. (Surat al-Mujadala: 7)/

HEALTH - ~ ‘Proper lifestyle a panacea for indigestion’

A walkathon organised here on Tuesday by the Indian Society of
Gastroenterology (ISG),Tamil Nadu chapter, inassociation with the
Junior Chamber, Ooty to observe the World Digestive Health Day and
enhance awareness about common gastrointestinal symptoms like
heartburn, bloating of the abdomen, indigestion and constipation
evoked a good response.
Flagging off the rally at theJain Temple, the Nilgiris Collector
Archana Patnaik lauded the effort and said that in an increasingly
stressful world lifestyle related maladies are on therise. She said
that people are not aware of many of them.
K. R. Palaniswamy, Patron, ISG, Tamil Nadu said that this vacation
destination has been chosen as the venue for the event as the presence
of a large numberof tourists would facilitate a wider reach of the
message.
Among those who participated were the Superintendent of Police
S.Nizamuddin and actor Sathyaraj.
In an interaction that followed the consensus of a panel of experts
was thatdigestive health can be protected through proper life style
management, exercise, shunning of junk food and consumption of
adequate quantity of water.
Initiating the discussions, Dr.Palaniswamy pointed out that lifestyle
determines the quality of life and said that owing to changing
lifestyles even children are now suffering due to health problems like
constipation.
Coimbatore based expert Mohan Prasad said that lifestyle changes have
increased the number of reflux cases and also made obesity common. He
underscored the need for good sleep in the night.
Mohammed Ali, an expert from Chennai, said that a major contributory
factor for gastrointestinal disorders was the growing preference for
fast food. People should eat to live and not the other way round.
Venkatakrishnan, another expert from Coimbatore, listed the benefits
of exercise.
N.Anandamurthy, an Ooty based physician said that since the number of
diabetes and hypertension cases was quite high in theNilgiris every
patient with gastrointestinal symptoms is also checked for cardiac
problems as a measure of precaution. He added that alcohol abuse was
high on the list of causes for gastrointestinal problems.

physical exercise was very important. She added that mere walking was
not enough.

ISLAMIC ARTICLE :- ~ Death is not the end?

--
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH
MOST GRACIOUS, MOST MERCIFUL
- ~ - ~ -
Every self will taste death. We test you with both good and evil as a
trial. And you will be returned to Us. (Surat al-Anbiya': 35)
Death, which is certain to happen to all of us, is a very important
fact in one's life. We can never know exactly what we will experience
in an hour or even in the next moment. This being the case, it is
obvious how wrong it would be to plan our lives based on events that
may never happen. Death, on the other hand, is the only thing that is
certain to happen. Only the recognition of this basic truth makes us
understand that we must found our lives according to it. Death is also
a part ofthe trial of man. Allah informs us in the Qur'an that He
created death and life to try man:
He Who created death and life to test which of you is best in action.
He is the Almighty, the Ever-Forgiving. (Surat al-Mulk: 2)
Death is the end of merelythe life of this world-thus the end of the
trial-and the beginning of the next life. For this reason, believers
have no fear of death. The thought of death does not distress them,
because, every moment of their lives is spent in the pursuit of good
deeds as preparationfor the Hereafter.
For unbelievers, however, fear causes them great distress, because
they consider it a complete annihilation. Thus, they avoid the thought
of death and they don't evenlet that thought pass their minds and they
escape from death. But it is futile. No soul can escape death when the
predetermined time for it has come. This, in a verse, is stressed as
follows:
Wherever you are, death will catch up with you, even if you are in
impregnable fortresses...(Surat an-Nisa': 78)
To avoid the thought of death is to avoid the truth. As death will
eventually catch up with man sooner or later, it is wise to conduct
oneself with a mind busy with the thought of death. This is the
rational disposition by which believers abide. Until death comes upon
them, they engage in good deeds, as Allah commands us in the Qur'an:
And worship your Lord until what is Certain comes to you. (Surat al-Hijr: 99)
Thinking about death strengthens one's spirit and will. It prevents
one's lower soul from leading him astray, by being lured through the
false temptations of this world. It instils him with the resolve and
determinationto avoid all forms of behaviour unpleasing to Allah. It
is for this reason that a believer must often think about death, never
forgetting that all people, including himself, will someday die.
From the Qur'an, we learn what really happens to someone who dies, and
what he or she actually experiences and feels. When we see someone
dying, we only observe his"biological death." The truth is, however,
the dying person, though in a totally different dimension, confronts
the angels of death. If he is a unbeliever, his death causes him great
pain. Theangels of death, after extracting his soul, beat and torment
him. A unbeliever's trauma is described as follows:
...If you could only see the wrongdoers in the throes of death when
the angels are stretchingout their hands, saying,"Disgorge your own
selves! Today you will berepaid with the punishment of humiliation for
saying something other than the truth about Allah, and being arrogant
about His Signs." (Surat al-An'am: 93)
How will it be when the angels take them in death, beating their faces
and their backs? That is because they followed what angers Allah and
hated what is pleasing to Him. So He made their actions cometo
nothing. (Surah Muhammad: 27-28)
Death promises great joy and bliss for the believers. Contrary to
unbelievers, whose souls are torn from them violently, the souls of
believers are drawn from them gently. (Surat an-Nazi'at: 2) This
experience is similar to thecase of the soul in sleep, which leaves
the body andmoves into a different dimension (Surat az-Zumar: 42). In
the verses, the following is stated regarding believers:
Gardens of Eden which they enter, with rivers flowing under them,
where they have whatever they desire. Thatis how Allah repays those
who have fear for Him: those the angels take in a virtuous state. They
say, "Peace be upon you! Enter Paradise for what you did." (Surat
an-Nahl: 31-32)/

STORY - ~ Kindness Pays! (Kindness and Compassion)

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his
way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was
hungry.
He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost
hisnerve when a lovely youngwoman opened the door. Instead of a meal
he asked for a drink of water.
Young woman thought he looked hungry so she brought him a large glass
of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, "How much do I owe you?"
"You don't owe me anything," she replied"Mother has taught us never to
accept payment for a kindness." He said..."Then I thank you from
myheart."
As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt; stronger
physically, but his faith in God and mankind was strong also. He had
been ready to give up and quit.
Years later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors
were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called
in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called
in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came
from, a strange light filled his eyes.Immediately he rose and went
down the hall of the hospital to her room.
Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her
at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his
best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to the
case.
After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Howard Kelly requested
the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He
looked at it, and then wrote something on the edge and the bill was
sent to her room.
She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her
life to pay for it all. Finally, she looked, and something caught; her
attention on the side as she read these words.....
"Paid in full with one glass of milk" (Signed - Dr. Howard Kelly)
Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed: "Thank You,
GOD, that Your love has spread abroad through human hearts and hands."
Moral: When a flower blooms, its colour and scent first touch the
gardennear it, and then spread. In the same way, a Muslim's acts of
human kindness should first touch those nearest to him, his family and
his neighbors./- ~ - ~ -

Sin and repentance

--
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH
MOST GRACIOUS, MOST MERCIFUL
- ~ - ~ -
One of the reasons for people's detachment from the morality of the
religion is that they consider themselves unforgivable out of the deep
distress they feel because of the sins they have committed. Satan
attempts repeatedly to instil such groundless thoughts in human
beings. To one who has committed a sin, he stealthily whispers the
message, "You are wicked and rebellious against Allah." If he has
committed only a few sins, satan tempts him to sin still more. Towards
his purpose, satan employs the feeling of embarrassment man feels
towards Allah, but manipulates this feeling inorder to draw man
furtherdistant from Allah.
However, like all others, this trick of satan's is a feeble one. The
fact that someone committed a sin does not mean that he hasbeen cursed
by Allah, and that he will never be able to follow the straight
pathagain. Not just one simple sin, but even if he were to commit the
greatest sins, over and over again, he will always have the
opportunity to repent and turn towards Allah. Allah informs us in the
Qur'an that He will forgive each person who sincerely repents of his
sins, that is, asks for forgiveness and remains firm in not committing
the same sin again:
But if anyone repents after his wrongdoing and puts things right,
Allah will turn towards him. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
(Surat al-Ma'ida:39)
Allah is infinite in mercy. In a verse of the Qur'an, Heprovides the
good news toHis servants, "...I am the Ever-Returning, the Most
Merciful" (Surat al-Baqara: 160). Every individual has the opportunity
to repent. Allah even accepted the repentance of some Jews, who went
astray and worshipped an idol they made out of gold, after having
believed in Him, and forgave them:
And when Moses said to his people, "My people, You wronged yourselves
by adopting the Calf so turn towards your Maker and kill your own
(guilty) selves. That is the best thing for you in your Maker's
sight." And He (Allah) turned towards you. He is the Ever-Returning,
the Most Merciful. (Surat al-Baqara: 54)
After repentance and asking for Allah's forgiveness, a person may well
again become heedless, committing the same sin again. In fact, thismay
happen many times over. However, provided that that person repents
once and for all, and is committed to not sin again, he may hope for
Allah's mercy.
Nevertheless, as it is in every issue, the important factor is
sincerity. An insincere action is unacceptable in Allah's sight. If
one is not resolved to ending his sinning, and says, "I will repent
eventually," he is clearly insincere, which is likely to bring sorrow
to man. Allah warns those who hold such rationale asfollows:
Allah only accepts the repentance of those whodo evil in ignorance and
then quickly make repentance after doing it. Allah turns towards such
people. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. There is no repentance for
people who persist indoing evil until death comes to them and who then
say, "Now I make repentance," nor for people who die unbeliever. We
have prepared for them a painful punishment. (Surat an-Nisa': 17-18)/

Not losing hope for Allah's mercy

--
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH
MOST GRACIOUS, MOST MERCIFUL
- ~ - ~ -
In many verses of the Qur'an, Allah mentions that Muslims—even those
with the most fear of Allah—– may make mistakes. In one verse, Allah
reveals;
Say [from Me]: 'My servants, you who have transgressed against
yourselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Truly Allah
forgivesall wrong actions. He is the Ever-Forgiving, the Most
Merciful.' " (Surat az-Zumar; 53)
It surely brings relief to their hearts, for a believer who errs could
feel great regret, sorrow and guilt.
Allah has made the scope for error so wide in humanbeings that He has
promised to forgive a person's errors without exception, if that
person issorry and repents of what he has done.
But despite of the many consolations in the Qur'an that refresh the
spirit and give hope, many human beings do not admit that they make
mistakes. In spite of the glad tidings announced in the Qur'an, after
making a mistake they become wrapped in despair and become anxious and
downhearted.
An individual who refuses to acknowledge errors he has committed out
of pride and arrogance is greatly saddened by what he has done. He has
trouble accepting that he is a creature prone to making mistakes and
faulty decisions, and whose actions and words may be wrong.
He does not consider that perfection and freedom from error belong
only to Allah. He wants to be perfect himself. But he cannot, and the
fact that some of his attitudes are wrong (despite his desire that
they not be), draws him into despair.
A believer experiences deep peace by accepting his imperfections and
helplessness in relation to Allah and never claims to be free from
error.
It should be remembered that the tendency to err and sin—even though
onemay be a firm believer—makes him more aware of Allah's perfection.
One can conceive of perfection only when he had experienced
imperfection.
Consciousness of his own failures and weaknesses lets him better
appreciate the absolute perfection of Allah./

STORY - ~ May I never get too busy

--
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH

- ~ - ~ -

It was a bitter, cold evening. The old man's beard was glazed by
winter's frost while he waited for a ride across theriver. The wait
seemed endless. His body became numb and stiff from the frigid north
wind. He heardthe faint, steady rhythm of approaching hooves galloping
along the frozen path.
Anxiously, he watched as several horsemen rounded the bend. He let the
first one pass by without an effort to get his attention. Then another
passed by... and another. Finally, the last rider neared the spot
where the old man sat like a snow statue.
As this one drew near, the old man caught the rider's eye and said,
"Sir, would you mind giving an old man a ride to the other side? There
doesn't appear to be a passageway by foot."
Reining his horse, the rider replied, "Sure thing. Hop aboard."
Seeing the old man was unable to lift his half-frozen body from the
ground, the horseman dismounted and helped the old man onto the horse.
The horseman took the old man not just acrossthe river, but to his
destination, which was justa few miles away.
As they neared the tiny butcozy cottage, the horseman's curiosity
caused him to inquire, "Sir, I notice that you let severalother riders
pass by without making an effort to secure a ride. Then I came up and
you immediately asked me for a ride. I'm curious why, on such a bitter
winter night; you would wait and ask the last rider. What if I had
refused and left you there?"
The old man lowered himself slowly down from the horse, looked the
rider straight in the eyes, and replied, "I've been around here for
some time. I reckon I know people pretty good."
The old-timer continued, "I looked into the eyes of the other riders
and immediately saw there was no concern for my situation. It would
have been useless even to ask them for a ride. But when I looked into
your eyes, kindness and compassion were evident. I knew, then and
there, that your gentle spirit would welcome the opportunity to give
me assistance in my time of need."
Those heartwarming comments touched the horseman deeply.
"I'm most grateful for whatyou have said," he told the old man. "May I
never get too busy in my own affairs that I fail to respond to
theneeds of others with kindness and compassion."
Ya Allah, Make me among those about whom the Noble Qur'an has said:
"Andthey give them preference over their own selves even though they
are in need". (Hashr 59:9)
Moral: Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a
kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act
of caring, all ofwhich have the potential to turn a life around./- - -
