Live on Dialysis
Dialysis is performed as one's kidneys fail to work. It is kind of
outsources the kidney function. However, instead of curing Renal
Failure, dialysis just can sustain one's life.
How long will people liveon dialysis?
Some studies showed that the average life spanof people on dialysis is
five years. According to the statistics from The National Institute of
Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease, the rate of survivor is 80%
in one year, 64% in two years, 33% in five years and 10% through 10
years.
Nevertheless, there's no specific number for one individual, because
various influencing factors would appear and impact directly one's
longevity.
Factors influence the mortality includes age, physical condition,
underlying causes of the disease, diet, lifestyle, to name a few.
Age is believed to be one of the major influencing factors. It is said
that, 88% of people who are under 20 years old will survive through
five years of dialysis; the number falls to 71% when people around
20-44; the survival rate drops to only 44% in people between 45 to
64;10% for those over the age of 74.
All those numbers present us a fact that the younger the patients
are,the greater the survival rate will be. There's no certain evidence
to provethe mortality in people with dialysis is much greater in the
elderly, much less in the young. But physical condition and stronger
immunity inyoung people do help them to survive.
Another big reason accounting for the survival rate is underlying
causes. In other words, the causes of your Renal Failure are essential
to the life span. Different diseases obtain different mortalities.
Take high blood pressure, diabetes and polycystic kidney disease as
examples. Among all those culprits, polycystic kidney disease has the
highest survival rate, second one is high blood pressure, and the last
one is diabetes. They are 74%, 33% and 29% through five years
respectively.
Other factors include dietand lifestyle. My suggestions are following
a healthy diet and if necessary, make some life-related changes. If
you are a smoker, quit it anyway. In the meantime, stay away from
alcohol. Excessive consumption ofalcohol and cigarettes make one prone
to sufferfrom kidney disease or aggravates one's condition.
It is worthy to mention that, those with diabetes or high blood
pressure on dialysis make one prone to have a short lifespan. So they
should do whatever they can to

*- WHAT ISLAM SAYS -*

Islam is a religion of Mercy, Peace and Blessing. Its teachings emphasize kind hear tedness, help, sympathy, forgiveness, sacrifice, love and care.Qur’an, the Shari’ah and the life of our beloved Prophet (SAW) mirrors this attribute, and it should be reflected in the conduct of a Momin.Islam appreciates those who are kind to their fellow being, and dislikes them who are hard hearted, curt, and hypocrite.Recall that historical moment, when Prophet (SAW) entered Makkah as a conqueror. There was before him a multitude of surrendered enemies, former oppressors and persecutors, who had evicted the Muslims from their homes, deprived them of their belongings, humiliated and intimidated Prophet (SAW) hatched schemes for his murder and tortured and killed his companions. But Prophet (SAW) displayed his usual magnanimity, generosity, and kind heartedness by forgiving all of them and declaring general amnesty...Subhanallah. May Allah help us tailor our life according to the teachings of Islam. (Aameen)./-
