"Be people who are constantly reviving their hearts, wearing shabby
garments, lights that illuminate the darkness, unknown to those on
earthyet known to the inhabitants of the heavens."

We must constantly revive our hearts, because we go through periods
when we are weak, lazy in our salat, feeling disconnected from
Allah... But the heart is fertile soil. It can easily be revived with
the aid of the Quran, salat, dua' and dhikr.
You don't literally have to wear shabby garments, butibn Masud (ra) is
saying that the best deeds are those done quietly, privately, for the
sake of Allah alone. You serve as a light in this dunya, making lives
better, helping peoplein quiet ways. You may notreceive popular
acclaim, or be honored by people, but you will be honored by Allah the
Most High. In the end, that is all that matters.
