Causes of hay fever
Hay fever is caused by breathing in pollen particles and by pollen
getting into the eyes. You can get hay fever at any time from early
spring to late summer, depending on which pollen or pollensyou're
allergic to.
The pollens most likely to cause problems in early spring are those
from trees such as the silver birch, ash, oak and Londonplane.
Grasses pollinate during mid-summer from May to August. The most
profusely pollinating grasses are timothy, rye, cocksfoot, meadow and
fescue.
Occasionally, in late summer and autumn, weeds such as nettles and
dock as well as mugwort and plantain can trigger hay fever.
The condition tends to occur in atopic allergy-prone families and
usually starts in the early teens, with symptoms peaking inthe 20s.

Symptoms of hay fever
The main symptoms of hay fever are:
*. Repeated sneezing attacks
*. Runny or itchy nose
*. Itchy or watery eyes
*. Itchy throat, palate and ears
*. Loss of concentration
*. General feeling of being unwell (hence 'fever')
If the pollen count is very high, many will also wheeze (so-called hay asthma).

Hay fever treatments
The most useful treatments for hay fever are:
*. Antihistamine tablets and nasal sprays, which if taken regularly
help torelieve a runny nose, sneezing, an itchy throat and itchy,
watery eyes
*. Anti-inflammatory nasal sprays and nose drops (usually containing
steroids), which reduce inflammation in the delicate lining of the
nose. These should be taken daily for the best results
*. Anti-allergy nasal sprays and eye drops, such as cromoglycate,
which act on the linings of the nose and eyes to stop the allergen
triggering a reaction
*. Decongestant tablets and sprays can help if the nose is blocked and
stuffy, but can lead to rebound blocking
Most of these medicines are available over the counter, but some are
onlyavailable on prescription. You may need to try different
treatments or find a combination that works best for you.
Steroid injections, although effective for symptom control, are
discouraged owing to unwanted side effects such as osteoporosis ,
cataracts and skin thinning.
Homeopathic and herbal treatments are less effective than conventional
therapies. Some experts advocate taking local honey every day for a
few months before the pollen season starts to improve symptoms, but no
studies have been performed to prove this.
If symptoms remain severe despite medication, you may benefit from
desensitisation immunotherapy to grass pollen. This involves
beinggiven tablets or injections containing minute amounts of pollen,
with the dose being increased gradually over a three-year period to
induce immune tolerance and cure the allergy.
Sublingual grass pollen immunotherapy for timothy grass allergy is
available in the UK for people with positive skin prick tests or
specific immunoglobin E (IgE) blood tests to grass pollen. However, it
is expensive and needs to be used oversuccessive hayfever seasons to
become effective, so use may be limited by your local primary care
trust - ask your GP for details. The injection form of immunotherapy
is now only available through specialist clinics as there is a risk of
anaphylactic reaction. No silver birch or tree pollen immunotherapy is
currently available.

Preventing hay fever
If you have hay fever, there are steps you can take to avoid exposing
yourself to pollen:
*. Keep an eye on the pollen count (often included in weather reports)
and stay inside as much as possible when it's high.
*. Wear wrap-around sunglasses to stop pollengetting in your eyes
*. Saline douches or a little Vaseline applied inside the nose will
reduce symptoms
*. Keep car windows closedand switch on the air conditioning to
prevent pollen entering the car
*. Keep bedroom doors andwindows closed in mid-morning and early
evening when pollen levels peak
*. Avoid areas such as parks or fields, particularly in the early
evening when there's a lot of pollen floating at nose level
*. Get someone else to mow the lawn and don'tlie on freshly cut grass
*. Change into clean clothes when you come home and wash the clothes
you wore outside
You may be able to find out what you're allergic toby having allergy
tests. You can then take practical steps to avoid that particular
pollen.

Oral allergy syndrome
Some people with hay fever develop oral allergies to certain fruits,
vegetables and nuts. This is also called pollen-food or oral allergy
syndrome (OAS).
People with OAS typically develop hay fever in early spring and notice
itching and swelling of the mouthand throat when they eat fresh fruit
and vegetables. This is due to the food containing a protein similar
to the allergy-provoking protein in the pollen.

*- WHAT ISLAM SAYS -*

Islam is a religion of Mercy, Peace and Blessing. Its teachings emphasize kind hear tedness, help, sympathy, forgiveness, sacrifice, love and care.Qur’an, the Shari’ah and the life of our beloved Prophet (SAW) mirrors this attribute, and it should be reflected in the conduct of a Momin.Islam appreciates those who are kind to their fellow being, and dislikes them who are hard hearted, curt, and hypocrite.Recall that historical moment, when Prophet (SAW) entered Makkah as a conqueror. There was before him a multitude of surrendered enemies, former oppressors and persecutors, who had evicted the Muslims from their homes, deprived them of their belongings, humiliated and intimidated Prophet (SAW) hatched schemes for his murder and tortured and killed his companions. But Prophet (SAW) displayed his usual magnanimity, generosity, and kind heartedness by forgiving all of them and declaring general amnesty...Subhanallah. May Allah help us tailor our life according to the teachings of Islam. (Aameen)./-

Power of Salat-ul-Istikhara
The Abandoned Prayer
A few years ago, I came across a book that one of my relatives had
called:"The Three Abandoned Prayers". In it, the author discusses
three prayers that have been largely underused by many Muslims, but
which hold great power. They were Salat-ut-Tawbah (The Salah of
Repentence), Salat-ul-Istikhara (The Salah of Seeking A God-Guided
Outcome in Times of Decision), Salat-ul-Tasbih (The Salah of
Glorification of God).
No doubt, many of us have been heedless of these powerful tools for
growing in our closeness to Allah, but one in particular which is
important to re-think is Istikhara.
The procedure for this Salah, is best described by the hadith:
On the authority of Jaabir Ibn ˜Abdullah he said: The Prophet (S)
would instruct us to pray for guidance in all of our concerns, just as
he would teach us a chapter from the Qur'an. He (S) would say "if any
of you intends to undertake a mater then let him pray two
supererogatory units (two rak'ah naafilah) of prayer and after which
he should supplicate:
'O Allaah, I seek Your counsel by Your knowledge and by Your power I
seek strength and I ask You from Your immense favour, for verily You
are able while I am not and verily You know while I do not and You are
the Knower of the unseen. O Allaah, if You know this affair -andhere
he mentions his need- to be good for me in relation to my religion, my
life, and end, then decree and facilitate it for me, and bless me with
it, and if You know this affair to be ill for me towards my religion,
my life, and end, then remove it fromme and remove me fromit , and
decree for me what is good wherever it be and make me satisfied with
such.'"
Such a powerful tool we have been given, to admit our complete lack of
knowledge, power, ability, and sight, and the absolute dominance of
Allah (swt) in all these abilities. Such a great and mighty prayer,
comprehensive in its outlook, its span of time, and its effect on our
lives. Balanced within this worldand the Hereafter. Something which
only Divine Guidance could have brought us.
Many of us use this prayer, rightfully, to seek Allah's assistance in
making decisions concerning school, getting a job, getting married,
going to Hajj, or maybe even choosing a house. Unfortunately though,
we have relegated one of the most powerful duas available, to only the
mostimportant decisions.
What we don't realize however, is that this prayer need not only be
for the most important, crucial decisions in our lives. Why do those
who are in Islamic Work, not use this prayer when making decisions in
the organization? Why not use it when making difficult choices at
work? For a specific project choice or topic choice for apaper in
school? Why do we not use it every time we say: "Ya Allah" I wish you
would just guide me to what is best for me! orYa Allah! I wish you
would just show me what to do!
So many decisions that theactivist brother or sister has to make. So
many decisions at our workplaces. But in these decisions, we don't
remember that much of our worry can be removedby leaving the decision
to Allah (swt).
What made the Companions the unique Quranic generation, was that their
entire thought process revolved around the Quran and around
supplication to Allah. The relegated to Allah and His Messenger, every
decision in their lives, after putting forth an intelligent and
sincere effort at solving their problems
As the Prophet said:"Ad-Dua mukh-ul-'ibaadah".
Supplication is the essence of worship.
So next time we have a decision, big or small, that is of some
consequence, remember - No one who ever consults with his Lord in
sincerity, shall ever be displeased with His Decree.
Make use of istikhara! Once an Imam sat with mewhen I asked his advice
and told me something about one of the leaders of the Muslim
community. He told me: "Brother, every person who has success in the
Deen, has a secret, some worship he does that sets him above and
beyond and helps himtowards Allah. You know what his [the leader's]
secret it? Every time he travels, and I've seen him, he prays
istikhara. He asks for guidance in his travels, and on the various
affairs of his life, and he makes use of his times of travel to do it.
So have some secret that you use also."
Secrets aside, istikhara is powerful. So inshAllah lets use it.
Misconceptions about istikhara:
1. Istikhara is not about having a dream. If one reviews the wording
of the hadith, one finds that it is not asking for a dream, it is
asking God to make one's affairs occur inthe best way. Because onedid
not have a dream, a sign on a bus or a billboard go by them on the
highway, does not mean it didn't "work"

All praises are due to Allah, the Creator, Nourisher and Sustainer of
both the worlds. Through Allah's infinite mercy on mankind. He selected
Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) as a mentor and filled his
heart with love and affection towardsHis creation. May Allah's
choicest blessings and salutations be showered on His beloved Rasul
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam), who undertook great pains in fulfilling
the task of conveying His message, and may Allah shower His blessings
on the noble companions of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)
whose hearts inherited the pain and burn for the guidance of humanity
that was instilled in the heart of their beloved Master, the Leader of
both the worlds.
INTRODUCTION
Whosoever adopts the way of life brought by Rasulullah (Sallallaahu
Alayhi Wasallam) to mankind, he will find that even his life in this
world will become one of pleasure, tranquility, contentment, peace and
freedom from all worries. Due to the fact that this way of life that
Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) brought was meant for the
whole of mankind, Allah made it very easy and simple to follow.
CONFUSION AND PERPLEXITY
Among the many difficulties that man undergoes is 'confusion' and
'perplexity'. Almost everyday in his life, man isfaced with the task
of making a decision between two or more choices. Generally the
decisions are not major but occasionally they do become quite serious.
Even in these circumstances, our beloved mentor, Rasulullah
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) taught us what to do, and clearly
outlined the solution. This solution is called Istikharah.
THE IMPORTANCE OF ISTIKHARAH
Allah says in the Holy Qur'an: "And it is very possible that you
dislike something whereas it is good for you; and (similarly) it is
very possible that you like something whereas it is bad for you" .
(Baqarah 16)
From the above ayah, we learn that man has limitedknowledge and
deficient intellect. Therefore, many a times, he may desire something,
which may prove harmful to him, and on the other hand, he maydislike
something, while it is good for him. The sole possessor of perfect
knowledge, and the only knower of the unseen is Allah, the Creator of
man and the Controller of the system of the entire universe. Therefore
if man desires good, he can only find it in the hands of Allah.
According to one Hadith: "It is from the good fortune of man that he
makes Istikharah(seeks good) from Allah, and it is from his misfortune
that he discards Istikharah."
'Allamah Aini (RA) writes:"Man should never overlook any matter due to
its insignificance and discard Istikharah. How many matters are
regarded as insignificant and Istikharah is not madefor them, due to
which great harm is suffered when carrying them out or abandoning
them. It is for this reason that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) is reported to have said:"(Every) one of you shouldask his
need from his sustainer to the extent that he should ask Him forsalt,
and for a shoelace when it breaks."
"Allamah Ibnul Qayyim (RA) has written: "The person who makes
Istikharah (seek good) from his Creator and makes 'mashwarah'
(consults) the creation never regrets, since Allah said to (His Nabi
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)): "Consult themin matters. Thus, when
You make a decision, placeyour trust in Allah".
Shaikh Tahir bin Husain bin Abdullah bin Tahir wrote in a letter to
his sonafter he had become an amir or governor:"Whenever any matter of
importance comes upon you, seek assistance in it by making Istikharah
to Allah and fearing him". He also advised him thus:"and perform
Istikharah abundantly in all your matters". (Al-Istikharah by M.T.
Hakeem)
A GREAT BENEFIT OF ISTIKHARAH
Hadrat Shah Waliyyullah (RA) writes: "From amongst the greatest
benefits of Istikharah is that man becomes detached from his carnal
desires, his animalistic characteristics become subject to his angelic
nature and he hands himself over to Allah. When he does this, he
reaches the stages of the angels whose quality is that they await the
command of Allah. When Allah's command is received, they exert
themselves through divinemotivation and not carnal motivation. I
believe that excessive Istikharah is a proven tonic for the
inculcation of angelic qualities."
A MISCONCEPTION
But alas, today, Istikharah has become as equally difficult as making
a decision. People hesitate so much to perform this great act of
worship, that only at the last alternative, when no other way can
beperceived, they would turn to some innovated act that has no basis
in theHadith, such as the taking of a good omen by opening the Qur'an
and counting lines and letters, etc.;

HISTORY - ~ Muslim King of Mysore. INDIA
Tipu Sultan, Hyder Ali's elder son, succeeded to his father's throne
on 29 December 1782, at the age of 32. Tipu Sultan was bornin November
1750 and was called the 'Tiger of Mysore'. Tipu Sultan was the first
son of Hyder Ali and his second wife, Fatimaor Fakhr-un-nissa. Tipu
wasnamed as Sultan Fateh Ali Khan Shahab or Tipu Saheb.Apart from
being a brilliantruler, Tipu was also a scholar, poet, soldier and a
staunch Muslim.
After his enthronement, Tipu was immediately immersed in the struggle
against the English, continuing the war that had begun under his
fatherand in which he had already taken a vigorous part. Tipu occupied
the throne at a time when Mysore was fighting the crucial Second
Mysore War with the British. The war ended in 1784 when Tipu Sultan
and the English signed the Treaty of Mangalore . As per the treaty,
both sides agreed toreturn the territories and the prisoners captured
during the war. A war with the Marathas and the Nizam soon followed
(1785-87) ending with military successes but with rather
disadvantageous terms of peace. This was apparently because of Tipu's
anxiety that these two powers should not combine with the English,
whom he consistently regarded as his principal enemy.
From his accession Tipu treated himself as an independent sovereign,
notneeding any diploma of inferior office from the Mughal court at
Delhi . He, thus, dropped the name and title of the Mughal emperor
from his coins, and started using the title 'Padshah' for himself from
January 1786. Tipu could now claim parity with full-fledged
sovereigns, likethe Sultan of Turkey and the King of France, both of
whom personally received his ambassadors in 1787 and 1788. While these
embassies might not have resulted in any substantial material support
for him, inrespect of either military resources or commercial
advantage, the diplomatic stature gained by him certainly reinforced
his prestige at home.
Though the titles of 'Padshah' or 'Zill-i Ilahi' (Shadow of God) were
usedby the Mughal emperors, but Tipu gave to his sovereignty a colour
of religious militancy, which was not at all present in the Mughal
imperial polity of the eighteenth century. Tipu would not put his own
name on the coins he minted; rather the coin legends invoke God as the
all-powerful Sovereign, andbring in the name of Muhammad the Prophet,
and of Hyder.
Tipu Sultan was a lover of art and culture. His palace at
Srirangapatnam is known for its superb ornamentation. He minted a vast
variety of coins fromdifferent mints. During his reign, French
craftsmen worked in Mysore. One such artisan produced a wooden toy
showing a tiger attacking a Britisher. The toy is now in the Victoria
and Albert Museum, London. Like his father, Tipu too was buriedat
Srirangapatnam. Tipu Sultan was a tolerant ruler in the tradition of
Islamic tolerance.
Tipu Sultan's reforming zeal touched every department of life,
including coinage and calendar, banking and finance, weights and
measures, agriculture and industry, trade and commerce, morals and
manners as well as social and cultural life. He built many strong
forts such as the Doorg in Nilgiris to defend his kingdom. He had a
quest for seeking knowledge. His personal library consisted of more
than 2000 books in different languages. He hada dignified personality
and impressed the people he came into contact with. He was an
enlightened ruler who treated his non-Muslim subjects with tolerance
generally. He conferred liberal grants to Singeri, Srirangapatnam and
Mangalore temples.
The innovative ideas of Tipu Sultan enabled Mysoreto gain importance
even in the international spheres.
Tipu Sultan proceeded actively to rebuild the navythat Hyder had
established. His major interest was in building ships which could be
used for trade, though, being armed for defence, as was usual with
merchant ships of the time, these could also be used in naval action.
This embassy, really consisting of a board of four officers, had both
diplomatic and commercialobjectives. Moreover, Tipu was also looking
beyond the Indian Ocean, and wished to open his own direct shipping
line to Europe. In 1787, he proposed to send to Francea ship with four
hundred Indians aboard along with his embassy.
Apart from the constructiveoperations of Tipu also hadto undergo
several critical situations that took place due to his relation with
theBritish. In 1783 Tipu directed the compilation, through Zainul
Abidin Shustari, of a manual of military organization and tactics, he
significantly titled it Fathul Mujahidin, the Victory of Holy
Warriors. This Holy War was to be directed against the English.

whom personally received his ambassadors in 1787 and 1788. While these
embassies might not have resulted in any substantial material support
for him, inrespect of either military resources or commercial
advantage, the diplomatic stature gained by him certainly reinforced
his prestige at home.
Morning and Evening Dhikr –
Dhikr - What is it?
DHIKR is the remembranceof Allah. Every time we think of Allah, do
Salaah, recite Quran, make a Dua, do Tasbeeh, mention Allahin
conversation, we are doing Dhikr. There are alsospecific ways of doing
Dhikr, as the Prophet(sws) taught us.
Importance/Benefitsof Dhikr:
Here are some Ayahs and Hadith showing us the importance of and the
benefits of doing Dhikr?
Allah(swt) says: "O ye whobelieve! Let not your wealth or your
children divert you from the 'Dhikr' of Allah. If any act thus, the
(severe) loss is their own!" [Surah Munafiqoon, Ayah 9]
"Those who believe, their hearts find satisfaction in the 'Dhikr'of
Allah: for without doubt, (only) in the 'Dhikr' of Allah do hearts
find satisfaction!" [Surah Raad, Ayah 28]
"If anyone withdraws himself from 'Dhikr' of (Allah) Most Gracious, We
appoint for him a Shaytaan to be an intimate companion to him! [Surah
Zukhruf, Ayah 36]
And the Prophet(sws) said: "The difference betweenthe one who
remembershis Lord and the one who does not, is like the difference
between a living and dead body." [Sahih al-Bukhari 6407]
Why every Morning& Evening?
Because Allah(swt) says in Surah Ahzaab, Ayahs 41-42: "O ye who
believe! Celebrate the 'Dhikr' (Remembrance) of Allah and do this
(as)much (as possible); And glorify Him Morning and Evening ."
What time is Morning & Evening?
According to Ibn Qayyim(ra)'s interpretation of the following words of
Allah, he concludes that the:
- Morning Supplication is from Fajr till Sunrise and
- Evening Supplication is from Asr till Sunset
Ta-Ha, Ayah 130: "And glorify the praises of your Lord before the
rising of the sun, and before its setting."
Surah Al-Araf, Ayah 205: "And remember your Lord within yourself with
humbleness and fear and without being loud in speech – in the mornings
and the evenings," Why do we recite certain supplications a specific
number of times?
See Arabic wording: The word Asaal is a plural of Aseel which means in
Arabic the period betweenAsr and Maghrib. (If you forget to do the
Dhikr at these times, you can reciteit after Maghrib till the middle
of the night or after Sunrise till before zawaal.)
What Dhikr should we recite Morning & Evening?
The Prophet(sws) has taught us. More than 14 different Duas/Dhikr have
been included in this presentation for you to recite and ponder over.
Each one is authentic and is backed by proof with a Hadith of
Rasool(sws) SubhaanAllah!
Why recite it a certain number of times?
We do not know the reason why, but there is a hidden wisdom in
following the Sunnah, as Allah(swt) says: "Indeed in the Messenger of
Allahyou have a good example to follow for him who hopes for (the
meeting with) Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much."
[Quran 33:21] "And if you obey him(sws), you will be [rightly]
guided." [Quran 24:54]
The Dhikr as taught by Rasul(sws) is enough for us and we should avoid
innovating in matters of worship, as some people like to say, 'Recite
such and such so many times', but they have no basis for it.
What do YOU want to gain from doing Dhikr?
My dear Brothers and Sisters, please sit back, relax and take some
time out to read, learn and to ponder over the beautiful Duas and
Dhikr in the rest of this presentation. May the following duas/dhikr
become a regular part of your daily routine, and may you find solace
by using them to communicate with and to Praise Allah. And most of all
may they strengthen your connection with Allah(swt) our Most Merciful
Creator, strengthen your Nafs and help you achieve the pleasure of
Allah and a place in Jannah al-Firdaus, Aameen - afterall that is your
ultimate goal, right?

HEALTH - ~ Can gardening cure depression?
(NaturalNews) Organic gardening may produce physiological changes to
boost your physical and mental health, a number ofstudies suggest.
One such change may take place as a result of the simple act of
putting your hands into the soil. A studyconducted by researchers from
the University of Bristol in London found that contact with a
naturally occurring species of soil bacteria, Mycobacterium vaccae,
causes the body to release vital immune chemicals called cytokines.
These, in turn, spur the brain to produce the neurotransmitter
serotonin.
"We know that some of these cytokines can activate the nerves that
relay signals from the bodyto the brain," researcher Chris Lowry said.
This effect may explain, in part, why people who are not exposed to
dirt in childhood have higher rates of allergies, asthma and even
mental health issues as adults.
In spite of what the drug companies would have youbelieve, there is no
real evidence that serotonin affects mood directly. However, it is
certainly an essential neurotransmitter that appears related to immune
function, and the study's results are highly suggestive.
"These studies help us understand how the body communicates with the
brain and why a healthy immune system is important for maintaining
mental health," Lowry said."They also leave us wondering if we
shouldn't all be spending more time playing in the dirt."
Get Addicted to Gardening In unconnected research, scientists have
found that the simple act of picking fruit or vegetables, whether from
a garden or in the wild, causes the brain to release the"pleasure
chemical" dopamine, which activates the brain's reward centers.
Dopamine is also released from seeing, smelling or eating a
pleasurable food.
Indeed, dopamine plays a role in all pleasurable experiences and is
thoughtto be responsible for much of the physical component of
addictive behaviors, including compulsive shopping. Researchers
believe that our brains evolved to reward us for important behaviors
such as finding foods, and that our modern environment of abundance
has allowed these psychological mechanisms to be co-opted into
unhealthy patterns.
"I have often remarked on the great joy I feel when I forage in the
garden, especially when I discover and harvest the 'first of
theseason', the first luscious strawberry to ripen or emergence of the
first tender asparagus shoot," commented writer Robyn Francis on
permaculture.com. "I have also often wondered why Ihad a degree of
inherent immunity to the retail-therapy urges that afflict some of my
friends and acquaintances. Maybe as a long-term gardener I've been
getting a constant base-load dopamine high which has reduced the need
to seek other ways toappease this primal instinct."
"I suppose the trick is to rewire our brains to crave the dopamine hit
from the garden and other more sustainable pursuits and activities,"
she added
For those interested in garden therapy, it's worth noting a 2008 study
that suggested gardening with herbicides may not supply the same
benefits. As a matter of fact, it seems even eating non-organic food
may place your moodat risk. Researchers found that glyphosate, the
active ingredient in the popular herbicide Roundup, actually lowers
your body'slevels of both serotonin and dopamine.
Because Roundup and its ingredients build up in the environment and
may even be absorbed through the skin, it is also best to avoid
non-organic foods, particularly those likely to be engineered for
Roundupresistance, such as corn andsoy.

Dua’ for one who is sick
What dua' can one say for a person who is sick? For example, a parent
for a sick child? Or for any family member or friend who is ill? Or
even a dua' for a sick person to say for himself?
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has taught us
things in such cases in which there is healing and a lessening of
sickness, as well as reward. That is part of Allah s mercy towards
this blessed ummah and the Prophet's care for it. He is the one whom
Allah described as (interpretation of the meaning):
Verily, there has come unto you a Messenger (Muhammad saws) from
amongst yourselves. It grieves him that you should receive any
injuryor difficulty. He is anxious over you; for thebelievers (he is)
full of pity, kind, and merciful. [al-Tawbah 9:128]
Among the things that he taught us are the following:
1 - Reciting al-Faatihah
It was narrated from Abu Sa eed al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with
him)that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah beupon him)
described Soorat al-Faatihah as a ruqyah, and he approved of the
Sahaabi who recitedit as a ruqyah for the one who had been stung by a
scorpion.
- Al-Bukhaari (2156) and Muslim (2201).
Ibn al-Qayyim said about reciting Soorat al-Faatihah:
"There was a time when I fell sick in Makkah, and I could not find a
doctor or any medicine, so I treated myself by reciting it. I would
take some Zamzamwater and recite it over it several times, then drink
it. I recovered fully by these means, then I beganto do that whenever
I felt alot of pain, and I benefited greatly from it."
- Zaad al-Ma aad (4/164).
2. "Lord of the Magnificent Throne"
The following dua' is givenin "Fortress of the Muslim",to be recited
for one who is ill:
Dua for sickness and ill health
Transliteration: 'As'alullaahal-'Adheema Rabbal-'Arshil-'Adheemi 'an
yashfiyaka.
Meaning: I ask Almighty Allah , Lord of the Magnificent Throne, to
make you well. (Recite seven times in Arabic)
Reference: At-Tirmithi, AbuDawud. See also Al-Albani, Sahih
At-Tirmithi 2/210 and Sahihul-Jami' As-Saghir 5/180.
3 - "You are the Healer"
It was narrated from Aa'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that
when any of us fell sick, the Messenger of Allah (peaceand blessings
of Allah be upon him) would wipe him with his right hand then say: "
Adhhib il-ba's, Rabbi l-naas washfi anta al-Shaafi laa shifaa ailla
shifaa uka shifaa an laa yughaadir saqaman. (Remove the harm, O Lord
of humankind and heal him, for You are the Healer and there is no
healing except Your healing, with a healing which does not leave any
disease behind)."
Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5675) and Muslim (2191).
4 - Al Mu'awidhatayn (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Naas)
It was narrated that Aa'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:
"If one of his family fell sick, the Messenger of Allah (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him) would blow over him and recite
al-Mu'awwidhaat. When he fell sick with his final illness, I started
to blow over him and wipe him with his own hand, because it was more
blessed than my hand."
Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5735) and Muslim (2192).
5 - Bismillah and dua'
It was narrated from Uthmaan ibn Abi l- Aas al-Thaqafi that he
complained to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him) about some pain that he had felt in his body since he became
Muslim. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon
him) said to him: "Put your hand on the part of your body that hurts
and say: 'Bismillaah' (in the nameof Allah) three times, then say
seven times: 'I seek refuge in Allah and His Power from the evil of
what I find and I fear.'"
- Narrated by Muslim (2202).
6 - "In the Name of Allah I perform ruqyah"
It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with
him)that Jibreel came to the Prophet (pbuh) and said:"O Muhammad, are
you sick?" He said: "Yes." He said: "In the name of AllahI perform
ruqyah foryou, from everything that is harming you, from the evilof
every soul or envious eye may Allah heal you, in the name of Allah I
perform ruqyah for you."
- Narrated by Muslim (2186).
7. - "Allah Who is in heaven"
It was narrated that Abul-Darda (may Allaah bepleasedwith him) said: I
heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings ofAllaah be upon
him) say: "Whoever among you suffers some sickness, orhis brother
suffers some sickness, let him say: 'Our Lord Allah Who is in heaven,
hallowed be Your name, Your will is done in heaven and on earth; as
Your mercy is inheaven, bestow it upon the earth. Forgive us our sins.
You are the Lord of the good. Send down Your mercy and healing upon
this pain' ; and he will be healed."

Dua for Anxiety and Stress
Alhamdulillah, here are some dua'a to make whenunder stress and
experiencing anxiety. Theyare a means of dispelling fear, of seeking
forgiveness of Allah, seeking His aid, protection and guidance. They
are the words of the Messenger of Allah (sall'allahu alayhi wasallam)
and hence anyone that sincerely makes these dua during times of great
need Allah will always answer the dua of the sinere seeker. May they
be of benefit to us all for there is not a time in the life of a
believer when he or she does not need the protection, guidance and
mercy of Allah.
And those that turn to Allah sincerely imploring His aid should know
that in reality it is Allah turningto His servant, for, "When Allah
wants to be good to someone, He tries him with some hardship." (Abu
Hurairah)
General advice from Prophet Muhammad (sall'allahu alayhi wasallam)
when youare in distress or suffering from anxiety:
In hadith #599 narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas in Sunan Abu Dawood, The
Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If anyone continually asks pardon,
Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress, and a relief
from every anxiety, and will provide for him fromwhere he did not
reckon.
When in distress or difficulty or sorrow:

General advice from Prophet Muhammad (sall'allahu alayhi wasallam)
when youare in distress or suffering from anxiety:
In hadith #599 narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas in Sunan Abu Dawood, The
Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If anyone continually asks pardon,
Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress, and a relief
from every anxiety, and will provide for him fromwhere he did not
reckon.

Can Dua Change Qadar?
What is the relationship between Dua (Supplication) and Qadar (Divine
Predestination)? Can Dua change Qadar?
Here's an answer from the scholars at IslamOnline.net:
Question:
Dear scholars, As-Salamu`alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. I know
that belief in the Qadar (Divine predestination) is a prerequisite for
sound faith. However, I'dlike to know if there is any conflict between
theQadar and Du`a'? How can the Du`a' influence one's Qadar, which is
already predetermined by Allah, Most High. Jazakum Allah Khairan.
Answer:
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be
upon His Messenger.
Dear brother in Islam, we really thank you for showing keenness on
learning the teachings of Islam, and we appreciate the great
confidence you have in us. We hope our efforts meet your expectations.
In Islam Du`a' is the essence of worship as stated in an authentic
Hadith. Qadar (Divine predestination) is a pillar of faith in Allah,
as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned when asked
byAngel Jibril (Gabriel), peacebe upon him, about Iman (faith),
saying: "It is to believe in Allah, His angels,His Books, His
Messengers, and the Last Day, and to believe in Divine predestination,
both the good and the evil thereof."(Reported by Muslim)
The eminent Muslim scholar, Dr. `Atiyyah `A. Lashin, Professor of
Jurisprudence at Al-Azhar University, states:
"Qadar, or Divine predestination is of two kinds:
1. Unconditional predestination
2. Conditional predestination.
Du`a' has nothing to do with the first kind, while itmay change the
second one. This ruling is based on the Hadith that reads:"Nothing
could change theQadar except Du`a'."
(Musnad Ahmad, Vol. 5, Hadith no. 277; Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Vol. 3,
Hadith no. 139; and classified as Hasan (good) Hadith by Al-Abaani in
Sahih Al-Jami`, Hadith no. 7687)"
Shedding more light on this issue, Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi , former
president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and member of
the Fiqh Council of North America, answers:
"Du`a' has great power; it can change many things. We should always
pray to Almighty Allah and should never give up hope in the acceptance
of Du`a'. Du`a' is the most important act of worship. It does not mean
that we or any other human or jinn have power, but it means that
Allah, the Almighty, has power and He can do whatever He wills. Du`a'
is the recognition and acknowledgement of our dependence upon Allah,
Most High, and our deep faith that He can change anything. There are
many verses in the Qur'an and many Hadiths that emphasize the
importanceand necessity of Du`a'. TheProphet, peace and blessings be
upon him, said, "Du`a' benefits in the things that have happened as
well as the things that have not happened yet. The calamity comes
down, but the Du`a' confronts itand they may continuously wrestle
until the Day of Resurrection." (Reported by Al-Hakim.)
In another Hadith, it is reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings
be upon him, said, "Nothing can change the Qadar except the Du`a'…"
This Hadith is reported by several authorities on Hadith, such as Imam
Ahmad, Ibn Hibban, Al-Hakim, and Ibn Majah… etc. Most of the scholars
ofHadith consider it an acceptable Hadith.
There is no contradiction between our faith in the power of Du`a' to
Allah and in our belief in the Qada' and Qadar of Allah. Scholars have
explained that there are two types of Qada' (Allah's Decrees):
a. those that are known asQada' Mubram (absolute decrees);
b. and those that are known as Qada' Mu`allaq (conditional decrees).
The absolute decrees do not change, but the conditional one may change
if and when the conditions are fulfilled. Such decrees are based on
the fulfillment of causes, as well as Du`a'. However, it is important
to keep in mind that every thing is inthe pre-existent knowledge of
Almighty Allah. The knowledge of Allah, Most High, does not change,
but the conditional decrees may change. Allah Almighty says in the
Qur'an: "Allah effaceth what He will, and establisheth (what He will),
and with Him is the source of ordinance." (Ar-Ra`d: 39)
Some people raise this question: if Allah Almightyknows the future and
His knowledge is always true, then things must happen according to His
knowledge. Then how can there be change and how can we say that we
have freedom? Actually, Muslim scholars have pointed out that
knowledge (`Ilm) is an illuminative, but not necessarily always an
effective, attribute. Allah the Almighty does know everything, but in
whatever areas He has given us freedom to act, we do act freely.

Best Times for Dua’
There are certain times dua (supplication) is more likely to be
accepted by Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) as mentioned by Prophet
(salAllahu alayhi wasalam). These times areas follows:
1. The Last Third Of The Night
Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that Allah'sMessenger
(salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: 'In the last third of every night our
Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) (Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala)) descends
to the lowermost heaven and says; "Who is calling Me, so that I may
answer him?Who is asking Me so that may I grant him? Who is seeking
forgiveness from Me so that I may forgive him?."' [Sahih al-Bukhari,
Hadith Qudsi]
Amr ibn Absah narrated that the Prophet said: 'Theclosest any
worshipper can be to His Lord is during the last part of the night, so
if you can be amongst those who remember Allah at that time, then do
so.' [at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'i, al-Hakim - Sahih]
2. Late at night
When people are sleeping and busy with worldly pleasures Allah
(Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) gives the believers an opportunity, or an answer
hour if they can fight sleepand invoke Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) for
whatever they need.
The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: 'There is at night an
hour, no Muslim happens to be asking Allah any matter of this world or
the Hereafter, except that he will be given it, and this (occurs)
every night.' [Muslim #757]
3. Between Adhan and Iqamah
Anas (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that Allah's Messenger (salAllahu
alayhi wasalam) said: 'A supplication made between the Adhan and Iqama
is not rejected.' [Ahmad, abu Dawud #521,at-Tirmidhi #212, Sahih
al-Jami #3408, an-Nasai and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (sound)]
4. An Hour on Friday
Narrated Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu): Allah's Messenger (salAllahu
alayhi wasalam) talked about Friday and said: 'There is an hour on
Friday and if a Muslim getsit while offering Salat (prayer) and asks
something from Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala), then Allah (Subhanahu wa
Ta'ala) will definitely meethis demand.' And he (the Prophet
(salAllahu alayhi wasalam) pointed out the shortness of that
particular time with his hands. [Sahih al-Bukhari]
Some have said that this hour is from the time the Imam (prayer's
leader) enters the mosque on Friday's prayer until the prayer is over
(ie between the two khutbahs), whereas others have said that it is the
last hour of the day (ie after the Asr prayer until the Maghrib
prayer).
(Note: when we say an hour here we do not meanthe hour everyone knows
(60 minutes) but an unspecified period of time because the time
counters which we use today came after the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi
wasalam)had died.
5. While Drinking Zamzam Water
Jaber (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that Allah's Messenger (salAllahu
alayhi wasalam) said: 'Zamzam water is for whatit is drunk for.'
[Ahmad 3: 357 and Ibn Majah #3062]
This means that when youdrink Zamzam water you may ask Allah
(Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) for anything you like to gain or benefit from
this water such as healing from illness…. etc.
6. While Prostrating
Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that Allah'sMessenger
(salAllahu alayhi wasalam), said: 'Thenearest a slave can be to his
Lord is when he is prostrating, so invoke (supplicate) Allah
(Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) much in it. [Muslim, abu Dawud, an-Nasa'i and
others, Sahih al-Jami#1175]
When a Muslim is in his Salat (prayer) he is facing Allah (Subhanahu
wa Ta'ala) and when he prostrates he is the nearest he can be to Allah
(Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) so it is best to invoke Allah (Subhanahu wa
Ta'ala) at this time. It is said that while in prostration, one
should not ask for worldy needs (ie a nice car, a new job, etc), but
for the Hereafter.
7. When Waking Up at Night
Narrated Ubada Bin As-Samit that Allah's Messenger (salAllahu alayhi
wasalam) said: 'Whomever wakes up at night and says La ilaha illallahu
wahdahu la shrikalahu lahulmulku, wa lahul hamdu, wa huwa ala kulli
shai'in qadir. Alhamdu lillahi, wa subhanallahi wala ilaha illallahu,
wallah akbir, wa la hawla wala quwata illa billah (none has the right
to be worshipped but Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) He is the only one
who has no partners. His is the kingdom and all the praises are for
Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) All the glories are for Allah (Subhanahu
wa Ta'ala) And none has the right to be worshipped but Allah
(Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) and Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) is the most

Amazing Power of Dua ~ The dua can change our life, our outlook, and our fate. It is themost potent weaponof a believer.
Once Prophet Muhammad (sal-Allahu-alayhi-wa-sallam) passed by a people
who were suffering from some affliction. "Why don't theymake dua
(prayer) to Allah for protection?" he said. With all the suffering and
disasters Muslims are facing in various parts of the world, the
question can be directed to all of us today.
It is not that we have forgotten dua completely; we refer to it
regularly. But our ideas and practice regarding dua have become
distorted. Often it is reduced to the level of aritual. Generally it
is considered when all our efforts have failed --- an act of last
resort. It is belittled through actions and sometimes even with words.
Is it any wonder that today mostly a mention of dua is meant to
indicate the hopelessness of a situation?
What a tragedy, for dua is the most potent weapon of a believer. It
can changefate, while no action of ours ever can. It is the essence of
ibadah or worship. With it we can never fail; without it we can never
succeed. In the proper scheme of things, dua should be the first
andthe last resort of the believer, with all his plans and actions
coming in between.
The most empowering conversation
Dua is conversation with Allah, out Creator, our Lordand Master, the
All Knowing, the All Powerful. This act in itself is of extraordinary
significance. It is the most uplifting, liberating, empowering, and
transforming conversation a person can ever have. We turn to Him
because we know that He alone can lift our sufferings and solve our
problems. We feel relievedafter describing our difficulties to our
Creator. We feel empowered after having communicated with the All
Mighty. We sense His mercy all aroundus after talking to the Most
Merciful. We get a new commitment to follow His path for that is the
only path for success. We feel blessed with each such commitment.
Our first and last action
In every difficulty our first action is dua, as is our last.We ask
Allah to show us the way to handle that difficulty; we seek His helpin
following the path He shows to us; we seek His aid in making our
efforts successful. When we fall sick, we know that we cannot find the
right doctor without His Will; that the best doctor may not be able to
diagnose our condition without His Command; that the best treatment
plan will not succeed without His Permission. We make dua for all of
these. We make dua before we seek medical help, while we arereceiving
it and after it hasbeen delivered.
The essence of worship
Dua is the essence of ibadah. A person engaged in dua affirms his
belief in Tawheed (monotheism) and shuns belief in all falsegods. With
each dua his belief in Allah grows. He beseeches Him, affirming his
own powerlessness. A person seriously and sincerely engaged in dua
understands exactly the relationship between himself and the Creator
and affirms it through his actions. That is the essenceof worship!
Additionally, such a person can never become arrogant or proud, a
logical result of true worship.
Our most potent weapon
Dua is our most potent weapon in all struggles of life as well as in
jihad in the battlefield. During the battle of Badr, the
ProphetMuhammad stood up all night in prayer seeking Allah's help in
the battle between unequal armies that would follow the next day. In
the decisive battles against the crusaders, Sultan Salatuddin Ayyubi
was busy day and night. His days were devoted to Jihad. His nights
were spent making dua, crying, seeking Allah's help. This has been the
practice of alltrue mujahideen.
Big and small
We should make it a pointto make dua for all things big and small. It
is the beginning of wisdom to realize that big and small are arbitrary
labels that are totally irrelevant in this context. Nothing is too big
for Whom we are asking from; nothing is too small for the one who is
asking. That is why we have been taught to ask Allah when we need
something as small as shoelaces. We should ask as a beggar, as a
destitute person, for that is what we in reality are in relationship
to Allah. At the same time we should ask with great hope and
conviction that we shall begranted our prayers. We should remember the
Hadith: "There is nothing more dear to Allah than a servant making dua
to Him." On the other hand, aprayer lacking concentration and
conviction is no prayer at all.
All times and all needs
We should make dua at alltimes, not only during times of distress. The
Prophet Muhammad said: "Whosoever desires that Allah answers his duas
in unfavorable and difficult conditions, he should make plentiful dua
in days of ease and comfort."
who were suffering from some affliction.

SIGNS OF QIYAMAH
According to a hadeeth appearing in Sahih Muslim, Sayyidena Abi Zaid
(R.A.) says, "Rasulullah (SallallahuAlayhi Wasallam) once led the Fajr
Salaat after which he ascended the pulpit andaddressed us till Zuhr
Salaat. He alighted from the pulpit, performed Zuhr Salaat and
ascended the pulpit. He then addressed us till Asr and descended from
the pulpit. He performed Salaat and ascended the Mimbar. He then
addressed us till sunset. (In these sermons) He informed us about
those incidents which had occurred as well as those which are yet to
occur. Those with stronger memories amongst us remembered most of
them."
The above hadeeth as well as other Ahadeeth indicate the importance
attached tothe imparting of information pertaining to Qiyamah. It is
further reported that the Noble Companions used to teach these
Ahadeeth to their children instructing them to convey it to others.
It will be noticed that while some Ahadeeth mention very briefly
certain signs of Qiyamah, other ahadeeth again mention certain signs
in greater detail eg. the coming of Sayyidena Eesa (A.S.), Imaam Madhi
(A.S.) and the advent of Dajjal. This is so because of the fact that
these signs are a greater test for one's Imaan.
Another important point is that despite the large collection of
Ahadeeth which exists in regard to the signs of Qiyamah there is no
specific order mentioned in as far as the occurrence of many of these
events is concerned. The exact period between each sign is also
generally unknown.
Further, certain signs have been mentioned very briefly, thus making
it difficult to specify exactly as to whether or not a certain event
which has occurred or is occurring is the same one which the Ahadeeth
has mentioned. The reason for all these above factors is to disable
anyone from reckoning theexact time of Qiyamah which Allah has said
will occur suddenly "it will come upon you suddenly". (Qur'aan)

The First Revelation of the Quran
Does anyone need proof that the processes of personal growth and
socialchange both start with books? Consider the first revealed verses
of the Quran itself, in Surah 96, Al-'Alaq:
1. Read in the name of your Lord Who created.
2. He created humankind from a clot.
3. Read and your Lord is Most Honorable,
4. Who taught (to write) with the pen
5. Taught the human being what he knew not.
The moment of the first revelation of the Quran to the Prophet
Muhammad (pbuh) was a moment of immense significance for all humanity,
possibly the most significant moment inhuman history. It follows that
the message is one of great significance as well.
What is this message of great significance, these first few profound
and powerful words?
Read, and write, and do it in the name of Allah.
Allah exalted and honored human beings by giving us knowledge, the
capacity to acquire more knowledge, and the tools to record andshare
our knowledge, whether verbally or in print. He commanded us tomake
use of these tools, and to do it in Allah's nameso that our motives
and methods remain pure, and so that the results will be beneficial to
humanity and not destructive or oppressive.
We are supposed to use our knowledge to create vaccines for diseases,
not to create deadly viruses forbiological warfare. We should use
nuclear power to generate clean energy, not to design bombs that can
destroy nations. We must use robotic technologies to create artificial
limbs for victims of war or accidents, or to explore the depths of the
sea, or to clear old minefields without loss of life, or to rescue
miners trapped deep underground… not to build hunter-killer drones
that destroy innocent human lives while the operator moves a joystick
a thousand miles away.
Knowledge must be employed "in the name ofyour Lord Who created," not
in the name of greed or vengeance.
This is especially importanttoday, when fantastically powerful
technologies are being developed every day.Supercomputers,
nanotechnology, genetic engineering, cloning, quantum physics… If
these technologies are not tempered with faith and wisdom, humanity
could unleash horrors on the world that will make previous wars and
genocides look like a bad case of the measles (no disrespect intended
to victims of past conflicts).

HEALTH - ~ Zinc supplement can reduce infant deaths
Giving zinc as a supplement along with antibiotics can
significantlyreduce mortality by lowering treatment failure in
children suffering from serious infections such as pneumonia and
meningitis,according to a study.
The study, reported in the latest issue of the international medical
journal, The Lancet , has found that babies who were given zinc
supplement were 40 per cent less likely to experience treatment
failure and their risk of death was reduced by 43 per cent.
The study covered 700 babies aged between seven and 120 days — 352of
them were given zinc supplement along with thestandard antibiotics and
the others a placebo. It was funded by the Department of Biotechnology
under the Union Ministry of Science and Technology.
Speaking to journalists here, DBT Secretary M.K. Bhan said research
had already shown that zinc supplements could help cure diarrhoea and
zinc syrups or dispersible tablets were already available for its
treatment in many countries.
Worldwide, bacterial and other infections account fornearly two-thirds
of deathsin children under five, with around two-fifths of the deaths
occurring within the first month of life. In India, of the one million
neonatal deaths that occur every year, more than a quarter are
attributed to these infections.

be tinkered with at the last moment, because of the absence of one of
the key participants.
Prince Philip has spent the night in hospital. It's the second time
he's been admitted in six months.
While he continues to be treated, a service of thanksgiving at St
Paul's and a lunch in WestminsterHall will go ahead.
Then the Queen will travel by carriage back to Buckingham Palace for
an appearance on the balcony with those who represent the future of an
institution she has nourished - Charles,Camilla, William, Catherine
and Harry. It doesn't harm that at a time of austerity it'll be an
image of just six royals which will be beamed around the world.
The woman who wasn't born to be queen has now reigned for 60 years.
It's a landmark achievement andnow possibly also a bitter-sweet
occasion as well.

ISLAMIC ARTICLE :- ~ Knowledge, the Key to Success
... It is narrated byAbu Musa that the Prophet (SAW) said, "The
example of guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is like
abundant rain falling on the earth, some of which was fertile soil
that absorbed rain-water and brought forth vegetation and grass in
abundance. (And) another portion of it was hard and held the rain-
water and Allah benefited the people with it and they utilized it for
drinking, (making their animals drink from it) and to irrigate the
land for cultivation. (And) a portion of it was barren which could
neither hold the water nor bring forth vegetation (then the land was
of no benefit). The firstis the example of the person who comprehends
Allah's Religion and gets benefit from the knowledge which Allah
hasrevealed through me and learns and then teaches it to others. The
(last example is that of a) person who does not care for it and does
not take Allah's Guidance revealed through me (He is like the barren
land.)" (Bukhari). Through the above narration, the Prophet (SAW) is
telling us of the superiority of religious knowledge. This is the
knowledge that we should give priority to. All other knowledge will
not be of benefit if we do not have this one. First and foremost,
comes the knowledge of Allah. Knowing His names and Hisattributes.
Knowing what isexpected of us in regard to our servitude to Him, and
what mutual rights exist between us. Secondly, we should strive to
know Allah's Book, the Qur'an. We should learn to read it in Arabic,
if we don't already know how to do so. We should also be trying to
memorize as much of it as possible, and stressing the importance
ofboth of these things to our children. Reading the Qur'an should be
something commonplace in every Muslim home, and is an activity that
the whole family can, and should participate in. Thirdly, we should
know about the Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu alayhe wa sallam, and his
companions. It's by readingtheir stories that we learn of their
bravery, love for the Deen and their complete devotion to Allah. It's

ISLAMIC ARTICLE :- ~ A profound respect for Allah is a sign of genuine faith
A profound respect for Allah, the religion, the Qur'an, our Prophet
(saas), the angels and all our spiritual values is an important sign
of genuine faith. Allah described in the Qur'an how the prophets and
true believers stood in respectful awe of Him and remembered him with
awe, how their hearts were softened by fear of Him, and how they came
with a sound and pure faith through their profound fear. Therefore,
all Muslims must be scrupulous and punctiliouswhen it comes to
remembering Allah, in speaking of our Prophet (saas) and all the other
prophets, and in discussing religious matters.
Language that is disrespectful of Allah will impose a heavy
responsibility in the Hereafter and also have a negative impact on
peopleof weak or no faith who hear it. Every Muslim must carefully
avoid talking in any such way.
BELIEVERS' PROFOUND RESPECT FOR ALLAH
(Believers are) those WHO ARE FILLED WITH THE FEAR of their Lord.
(Surat al-Muminun, 57)
(People of intelligence are)those who join what Allah has commanded to
be joined and are AFRAID OF THEIR LORD and fear an evil Reckoning.
(Surat ar-Rad, 21)
Those who fear their Lord in their most secret thoughts, and WHO HOLD
THE HOUR (OF JUDGMENT)IN AWE. (Surat al-Anbiya', 49)
We responded to him and gave him John, restoring for him his wife's
fertility. They outdid one another in good actions, calling outto Us
in yearning and in awe, and HUMBLING THEMSELVES TO US. (Surat
al-Anbiya', 90)
If We Had sent down this Qur'an onto a mountain, YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN
ITHUMBLED, CRUSHED TO PIECES OUT OF FEAR OF ALLAH. We make such
examples for people so that hopefully they will reflect. (Surat
al-Hashr, 21)
HAS THE TIME NOT ARRIVED FOR THE HEARTS OF THOSE WHO BELIEVE TO YIELD
to the remembrance of Allah andto the truth He has sent down, so they
are not like those who were given the Book before for whom thetime
seemed over long so that their hearts became hard? Many of them are
deviators. (Surat al-Hadid, 16)
(It is) so that you might allbelieve in Allah and His Messenger and
honor Him and RESPECT HIM and glorify Him in the morningand the
evening. (Surat al-Fath, 9)
Men and women who are Muslims, men and women who are believers, men
and women who are obedient, men and women who are truthful, men and
women who are steadfast, MEN AND WOMEN WHO ARE HUMBLE, men and
womenwho give charity, men andwomen who fast, men andwomen who guard
their chastity, men and women who remember Allah much: Allah has
prepared forgiveness for them and an immense reward. (Surat al-Ahzab,
35)
Among the people of the Book there are some who believe in Allah and
in what has been sent down to you and what was sent down to them, and
WHO ARE HUMBLE BEFORE ALLAH. They do not sell Allah's Signs for a
paltry price. Such people will have their reward with their Lord. And
Allah is swift at reckoning. Surah Al 'Imran, 199)
Those who speak in a manner that is inappropriate towards Allah and
Islam, who foolishly adopt a mocking tone or who behave in such a way
as to weaken people's love and respect for Allah in this world will be
able to do none of these things when they are brought into His
Presence and will seriouslyregret their actions.
DENIERS' AND HYPOCRITES' FACIAL EXPRESSIONS AND SPEECHIN THE PRESENCE OF ALLAH

BUT A WHISPER WILL BE HEARD. On that Day intercession will not be of
any use except for him whom the All-Mercifulhas authorized and with
whose speech He is well pleased. (Surah Ta Ha, 108-109)
You will see them as they are exposed to it, ABJECT IN THEIR
ABASEMENT, glancing around them furtively. Those who believe will say,
'Truly the losers are those who lose themselves and their families on
the Day of Resurrection.' The wrongdoers are in an everlasting
punishment. (Surat ash-Shura, 45)
'Be moderate in your tread and LOWER YOUR VOICE. THE MOST HATEFUL OF
VOICES IS THEDONKEY'S BRAY.' (Surah Luqman, 19)
Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that THE CALLER
WILL CALL (THEM) TO A TERRIBLE AFFAIR. They will emerge from their
graves with DOWNCAST EYES , like swarming locusts, necks outstretched,
EYES TRANSFIXED, RUSHING HEADLONG TO THE ONE WHO SUMMONS. The

This is what it's all about. I heard someone say recently that only
two things can happen with thewealth you accumulate in this life:
either it leaves you, or you leave it. Wealthis not a legacy. Having
fun is not a legacy. Helping a company to sell useless products is not
a legacy.
Making a difference in the lives of human beings, relieving the
suffering of even one person, raising righteous and happy children,
leaving behind knowledge that benefits people, making the world
abetter place, those are legacies.
I have not met the sister who is quoted at the top, but I have read
some of her writings. Whenever I hear her name I think of being
responsible, taking care of my family, loving my children and bringing
them up right, making a difference in the community, following my
dreams… that is a legacy. She has already created a vital legacy.
I have another friend whose name is Ismail. He isso humble
ma-sha-Allah, and as a friend he is the most discreet and
closed-mouthed person I know, by which I mean he never speaks badly
about anyoneelse, and never reveals anyone's secrets or violatestheir
trust. When I think of him, I am inspired to emulate him. That is his
legacy, and it's an important and valuable one.
More than twenty years ago I knew a brother named Qawiy. His life was
hard, but every time I met him he'd give me a big smile and an
enthusiastic handshake. He wore a kufi and carried a folded musalla
(prayer rug) on his shoulder, so he could pray whenever salat time
arrived, no matter where he was. Kind of quirky, but also inspiring.
All these years later, just the thought of Qawiy brings a smile to my
face, and reminds me of the importance of doing salat on time. That's
a legacy! SubhanAllah.
I could name many more people who have affected me in positive and
critical ways. I will always remember them, even afterthey are gone,
Insha'Allah. They have created lasting legacies.
Of course we don't even have to speak of the Prophets (peace be upon
them), and the Messenger of Allah (sws), and the Sahabah (may Allah be

will illuminate human history for all time.

ISLAMIC ARTICLE :- ~ How a Muslim Should Live in a Non-Muslim Land in Light of Surah Yūsuf [1]
Indeed, the principle is that the Muslim should prefer an Islamic land
so as to establish the rights of his religion, but circumstances may
force him or her to live in a non-Muslim land. And Islam, being a
religion thatprovides guidance for all aspects of human life, has
addressed this issue. Numerous texts within Islamic literature have
expounded on the topic ofMuslims living in non-Muslim lands, and
thestory of Prophet Yūsuf ( 'alayhi al-salātu wa al-salām ) serves as
an ideal source of reference for such a discussion. The Prophet Yūsuf
was forced to leave the land of the Prophets, the land where his
father Ya'qūb resided and where the Heavenly Law was being applied.
Due to the betrayal of his brothers, Yūsuf was taken as a slave by a
caravan and eventually purchased by a minister of Egypt known by the
title al-'aziz .
The man in Egypt who bought him, said to his wife: "Make his stay
(among us) honourable: may be he will bring us much good, or we shall
adopt him as a son." Thus did We establish [i.e. give authority to]
Yūsuf in the land..." [Yūsuf (12):21]
The hint within this ayah is that a person may not be able to gain
authority in his own land but may acquire it in another. This brings
us to the question of how Yūsuf conducted himself in this
non-Muslimland.
The most obvious challenge that faces the Muslim in such a
land is how to cope with the non-Islamic values within society that
inevitably led to a prevalence of fawāhish [3] and thus conflict or
clash with one'sfaith. Certainly, falling into this fawāhish is easy,
but itwas just as easy in the time of Yūsuf ( 'alayhi al-salātu wa
al-salām ) as the ayah on Yūsuf's encounter with the wife of al-aziz
illustrates:
And she, in whose house he [Yūsuf] was, sought to seduce him. She
closed thedoors and said, "Come, you." He said, "I seek refuge in
Allah. Indeed, he (your husband) is my master, who has made good my
residence. Indeed, wrongdoers will never prosper." [Yūsuf (12):23]
It is not fitting for the Muslim who believes in Allah and the Last
Day to come near obscenity. The Prophet Muhammad ( sul Allahu 'alayhi
wa salim) mentioned seven people who will be shaded by Allah on the
Day of Judgement; [4] among them is a man who turns away from the
temptationand seduction of a womanwith beauty and status, saying "I
fear Allah." It is upon the Muslim to fear Allah in every gaze and in
every instance he or she is alone. And living in an environment where
the opportunities to sin are manifold, if a Muslim is notcareful, he
or she may not only fall into a sin or two but perhaps may reach a
stage of being immersed in sinning, such that one abandons repentance.
Soon, a love for these sins develops and by this the Muslim leads him
or herself astray.
And Allah would not let a people stray after He has guided them until
He makes clear to them what they should avoid. [At-Tawba (9):115]
The Muslim who abandons having taqwa and does not repel the fawāhish ,
his or her heart may start to see the evil asgood, perhaps even
leading him or herself out of the pail of Islam.
So it is incumbent on the Muslim to strive against the fawāhish and
constantly seek the help ofAllah. The Quran relates how Yūsuf (
'alayhi al-salātu wa al-salām ) sought the help of his lordin his
situation:
And if You do not avert from me their [evil] plan, I might incline
toward themand [thus] be of the ignorant. So his Lord responded to him
and averted from him their plan. [Yūsuf (12):33-34]
The desires and lusts are great and numerous, but they remain trifling
in the eyes of the believer, the one who is sincere to Allahand
trusting in His assistance.
Thus it was, that We might ward off from him evil and lewdness.
Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants. [Yūsuf (12):24]
So if the Muslim turns to Allah in supplication and with sincerity,
seeking refuge in Him, Allah will surely protect Him. Thus, the first
thing a Muslim must do in this society is to confront the fawāhish
that he or she faces and strive to overcome them.
After the Muslim is rendered victorious against his or her desires, it
is upon him or her to exemplify high Muslim morals, manners, and
character while living in this society, as the ProphetMuhammad ( sul
Allahu 'alayhi wa salim) instructed, "Treat the people with good
manners." It has been established that Yūsuf ( 'alayhi al-salātu wa
al-salām ) was innocent of what he was accused of, yet he was
oppressed, accused unjustly and put in jail where he stayed with two
youth.
And there entered the prison with him two young men.
so as to establish the rights of his religion, but circumstances may
force him or her to live in a non-Muslim land.
