*- WHAT ISLAM SAYS -* - Islam is a religion of Mercy, Peace and Blessing. Its teachings emphasize kind hear tedness, help, sympathy, forgiveness, sacrifice, love and care.Qur’an, the Shari’ah and the life of our beloved Prophet (SAW) mirrors this attribute, and it should be reflected in the conduct of a Momin.Islam appreciates those who are kind to their fellow being, and dislikes them who are hard hearted, curt, and hypocrite.Recall that historical moment, when Prophet (SAW) entered Makkah as a conqueror. There was before him a multitude of surrendered enemies, former oppressors and persecutors, who had evicted the Muslims from their homes, deprived them of their belongings, humiliated and intimidated Prophet (SAW) hatched schemes for his murder and tortured and killed his companions. But Prophet (SAW) displayed his usual magnanimity, generosity, and kind heartedness by forgiving all of them and declaring general amnesty...Subhanallah. May Allah help us tailor our life according to the teachings of Islam. (Aameen)./-

He said I feel lonely and hollow from the inside. I said: "A true
Muslim can't feel lonely when he has Allah in his life. Who was it
with Adam, peace be upon him when he sinned and was made to descend to
earth? Had Allah not forgiven him, he would've been depressed to
death. Who was it with Noah, peace be upon him when the sky and earth
were gushing with water and everyone including his son was drowning?
Who was itwith Ibraheem, peace be upon him when he –alone-destroyed
the idols and thepagans threw him in the blazing fire? Who was it with
Yusuf, peace be upon him when he was abandoned in the well by his own
flesh and blood; toend up in jail for a crime hedidn't commit and a
sin he refused to do? Who was it with Moses, peace be upon him when

by hundreds of pagans with a bounty on his head? All they wanted was
blood.
If what's between you and Allah is fine, what is between you and the

A TRUE, LOVELY STORY:

her maghrib salah and after that she wore beautiful new dress and put

her Isha prayer. Her mother got angry on her and started to convince
her for not to do so.Her mother said if you will do wudhu than your
make up will go off and it will all be removed. Her mother also
said"are you crazy.Guests are waiting only for you,and you are saying
that first you want to offer your salah. You are sick..!".Then the girl
replied mother try to understand salah is my first and foremost
priority. Her mother got angry on her.But still she did wudhu and
started her salah.Whenshe was in sajda SHE DIED.
It was her luck subhanALLAH thata girl who really loved her religion

Withdraw troops from Siachen: Sharif { Pakistan News}

The former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, urged India and Pakistan on
Tuesday towithdraw their troops fromthe Siachen glacier, the world's
highest battlefield where the vagaries of nature claimed more lives
than actual fighting.
Mr. Sharif also made out a case for Pakistan taking theinitiative
after visiting the Gayari sector of the glacier where round-the-clock
efforts are on to dig out the bodies of the 124 soldiers of 6 Northern
LightInfantry and 11 civilians buried under 80 feet of snow dislodged
by an avalanche on April 7. He is the first politician to make it to
the site of the natural calamity that has left the nation pondering
over the futility of manning the glacier, where not a blade of grass
grows but billions have been spent by both countries to secure their
northern-most frontiers. President Asif Ali Zardari was to have
visited Gayari on Monday, but aborted hisplans because of bad weather.
Speaking to journalists at Skardu after returning fromGayari, Mr.
Sharif said the two countries should resolve the differences
overSiachen and use the moneymore productively, for the development of
the people.
Asked who should take thefirst step, he said Pakistan should take the
initiative even if India was not flexible. Islamabad has long held
that the Siachen dispute is a low-hanging fruit on the list of issues
that need to be resolved between the two countries.Members of the
security establishment argue that itis unfortunate that India is not
agreeing to go back to the pre-1984 position first and then discuss
the border demarcation furthernorth of NJ 9842.

How exercise can prime the brain for addiction

--
Statistically, people who exercise are much less likely than inactive
people to abuse drugs or alcohol. But can exercise help curb
addictions? Some research shows that exercise may stimulate reward
centres inthe brain, helping to ease cravings for drugs or other
substances. But according to an eye-opening new study of
cocaine-addicted mice, dedicated exercise may in some cases make it
even harder to break an addiction.
The study, conducted by researchers at the BeckmanInstitute for
Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois in
Urbana-Champaign, began by dividing male mice into those that had or
did not have running wheels in their cages. All of the mice were
injected with a chemical that marks newly created brain cells.
The animals then sat in their cages or ran at will for 30 days.
Afterward, the mice were placed in small multi-roomchambers in the lab
and introduced to liquid cocaine. They liked it.
Researchers frequently use a model known as "conditioned place
preference" to study addiction in animals. If a rodent returns to and
stubbornly plants itself in aparticular place where it has received a
drug or other pleasurable experience, then the researchers conclude
that the animal has become habituated. It badly wants to repeat the
experience that it associates with that place.
All of the mice displayed a decided place preference for the spot
within their chamber where they received cocaine. They had learned to
associate that location with the pleasuresof the drug. All of the mice
had, essentially, become addicts.
Some of the sedentary animals were then given running wheels and
allowed to start exercising.Meanwhile, those mice thathad always had
wheels continued to use them.
Then the researchers cut off the animals' drug supply and watched how
long it took them to stop scuttling to their preferred place. This
process, known as "extinction of the conditioned place preference," is
thought to indicate that an animal hasovercome its addiction.
The researchers noted two distinct patterns among the addicted
exercisers. The formerly sedentary mice that had begun running only
after they became addicted lost their conditioned place preference
quickly and with apparent ease. For them, it appeared relatively easy
to break thehabit.
Those that had been runners when they first tried cocaine, however,
losttheir preference slowly, if at all. Many, in fact, never stopped
hanging out in thedrug-associated locale, a rather poignant reminder
of the power of addiction.
"There is good news and maybe not-so-good news about our findings,"
says Justin S. Rhodes, a professor of psychology at the University of
Illinois and an author, with Martina L. Mustroph and others, of the
study, published in The European Journal of Neuroscience.
It does indicate that shedding an addiction acquired when a person has
been exercising could be extra challenging, he says.
"But, really, what the studyshows," he continues, "is how profoundly
exercise affects learning."
When the brains of the mice were examined, he points out, the runners
hadabout twice as many new brain cells as the animals that had
remained sedentary, a finding confirmed by earlier studies. These
cells were centered in each animal's hippocampus, a portion of the
brain critical for associative learning, or the ability to associate a
new thought with its context.
So, the researchers propose, the animals that had been running before
they were introduced to cocaine had a plentiful supply of new brain
cells primed to learn. And what they learned was to crave the drug.
Consequently, they had much more difficulty forgetting what they'd
learned and movingon from their addiction.
That same mechanism appeared to benefit animals that had started
running after becoming addicted. Their new brain cells helped them to
rapidly learn to stop associating drug and place, once the cocaine was
takenaway, and start adjusting to sobriety.
"Fundamentally, the resultsare encouraging," Rhodes says. They show
that by doubling the production ofrobust, young neurons, "exercise
improves associative learning."
But the findings also underscore that these new cells are
indiscriminate anddon't care what you learn. They will amplify the
process, whether you're memorizing Shakespeare or growing dependent on
nicotine.
None of which, Rhodes says, should discourage people from exercising
or from using exercise to combat addictions. "We looked at one narrow
aspect" of exercise and addiction, he says, related to learned
behaviors and drug seeking.::

Turmeric lowers heart attack risk post surgery

Turmeric may help lower heart attack risk in people post bypass
surgery, thanks to curcumin, the yellow pigment present in the spice
which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Bypass surgery improves blood supply to the heart muscle. However,
during the surgery that is usually performed with the heart stopped,
the organ can be damaged by prolonged lack of blood flow, increasing
the patient's riskof heart attack.
The new findings suggest that curcumins may reducesuch risks when
added to traditional drug treatments.
The results need to be confirmed through further research, said
Wanwarang Wongcharoen from Chiang Mai University in Thailand, who led
the study, the American Journal of Cardiology reported.
Researchers at the Thai university studied 121 patients who had
non-emergency bypass surgery between 2009 and2011. Half the patients
were given one-gram curcumin capsules to take four times a day,
starting three days before their surgery and continuing for five days
afterwards. The other half took the same number of drug-free placebo
capsules.
The researchers found that during their post-bypass hospital stays, 13
per cent of the patients who'd beentaking curcumins had a heart
attack, compared to 30 per cent in the placebo group.
After accounting for any initial pre-surgery differences, Wongcharoen
and his colleagues calculated that people on curcumins had a 65 per
cent lower chance of heart attack.
"It's very, very encouraging," said Bharat Aggarwal of the study.
Aggarwal works with the MD Anderson Cancer Centerin Houston, Texas,
which studies the use of curcumins in cancer therapy, according to the
Daily Mail.
According to researchers, it is likely that the antioxidant and
anti-inflammatory properties of curcumin may have helped limit heart
damage in the patients.

An Ayath n Defenition:

Allaah says,
"And there is in Law of Equality in punishment, a(saving of) life for
you." (Al-Maaidah 5:38) In order to preserve people's honour, He
says,"The female and male fornicator, flog each of them with a hundred
stripes." (An-Noor 24:2)
This punishment is for unmarried man or woman. As for the married, his
or her punishment is stoning to death. There should therefore, be no
regard for falsehood or immunity for anarchy.
Islaam highly respects man's right to live. It respects the pure and
righteous life, not a life of obscenity and crisis nor that of
injustice and aggression.
There is no value in the respect for man's right to live if that
respect is not accompanied by a just law and regulation for that life.
Islaam takes care of man's right to protect his life in order to make
it an honoured one, rich in security, stability and tranquillity.
Islaam builds security in the minds of the Muslims then in his life,
in order that he may establish justice -based on the Law of Allaah-
between people, establish power and authority with which the Law of
Allaah can be consolidated in the earth, promote good relationship
between people under the banner of Islaamic brotherhood and strengthen
the ties of the kith and kin for the sake of Allaah.
Among the fundamental human rights in Islaam is that, no man should
harm another nor backbite him either with word or deed. It is on
account of this that Islaam prohibits slandering, calumny, ridiculing
others and insulting them. The following story illustrates how this
principle was applied during the time of the Messenger of Allaah, a
man was penalised repeatedly for his continuous alcoholic drinking. On
an occasion, he was brought before the Messenger of Allaah and
flogged. A man among those present said,
"May Allaah curse him! How many times has he been brought for this
sameoffence!" Upon hearing that, the Messenger of Allaah got angry and
said, "Do not curse him. By Allaah, I know that he loves Allaah and
His Messenger." (Al-Bukhaaree)
Islaam not only protects and honours man during his life, it also
guarantees honour for him after his death by commanding thathe be
bathed, shrouded and prayed for after his death. It also prohibits
braking of his bones or assaulting his dead body.
As for the present material civilization, it only proclaims
ineffective and lame fundamental human rights in the sense that it
isinfluenced and controlled by disgusting racialism as italso has no
faith or correct belief. That is why human rights are being violated
in the so-called most developed countries.
Where are fundamental human rights where the Quds is being
continuously desecrated, when its lands are being wrongfully occupied
and the blood of its rightful owners being shed with impunity?! Where
are the claimed fundamental human rights when man's moral values are
being systematically destroyed and his humanity being dishonoured?!

Biological Name : Calycopteris floribunda
Calycopteris floribunda, commonly known as Ukshi,is a large climbing
shrub which is 5-10 m long, with vines that are about 5–10 cm in
diameter, the stem and leaves are said to havemedicinal properties.
Ukshi is found extensively in the low-lying tropical evergreen forests
of the Western Ghats. These are also found in "Kavus" or the Sacred
Groves of Kerala.
It bears grey bark and tenuous branches with thick fluff on the
surface. The keratinous leaves, ovoid or oval, are 5–12 cm long. New
branches are hairy and rust coloured. The flowers occur in dense
clusters are the end of branches. The bracts of the small flowers are
ovoid or oval, with thick fluffs on the surface. Petals are absent and
the 10 stamensare arranged in 2 cycles.
The fruit inception bears 1 ventricle and 3 pendulous ovules inside.
The fluffy sham-winged fruit, which is about 8 mm long, has 5 edges
and 5 persistent calyxes which enlarges intothe fluffy wing 10–14 mm
in length. The sepals are prominent, hairy and green.
[edit] Uses
Ukshi is revered as a life-saver by the forest dwellers who regularly
depend on this vine during summer when streams dry up. Sections of the
vine store water, which people often use to quench their thirst.
The leaves are bitter, astringent, laxative, anthelmintic, depurative,
diaphoretic and febrifuge. They are useful in intestinalworms, colic,
leprosy, malarial fever, dysentery, ulcers and vomiting. The fruits
are useful in jaundice, ulcers, pruritus and skin
diseases.http://translate.google.com/m?twu=1&sl=auto&tl=en&hl=en

What does the Quran say about Women's creation and purpose?

--
From a tiny drop that becomes an embryo, the girl-child is born to be
an honored part of God's plan.God states in the Muslim holy book, the
Qur'an:
"O humankind! Be conscious of your Lord Who created you from a single
soul, and out of it created its mate, and out of the two spread
countless men and women.Be conscious of your Lord through Whom you
demand your mutual rights and honor the wombs; God always watches over
you." (Qur'an 4:1)
According to the Qur'an, there was a Garden of Eden. There was a
forbidden tree, but no apple, no snake, and certainly no fault on Eve
alone. Both Adam and Eve sinned at the same time. They felt shame,
repented, and were forgiven together. God provided them with guidance,
showing them a way back to Him.
"Each soul earns on its ownaccount: and no bearer of burden shall bear
the burden of another." (Qur'an6:164)
"If any do deeds of righteousness, whether male or female, and have
faith, they will enter Paradise and not the least injustice will be
done to them." (Qur'an 4:124)
The sole purpose and existence of both men and women is to worship God
through faith and good deeds, fulfilling their role as God's honorable
trusteesand witnesses on this earth.// - -|

Some of the Benefits of Eating the Fig Fruit
Dried figs contain a high amount of soluble fiber. What's good about
it is that it absorbs water in your intestine, bulk the food, makes it
easy to move through the bowel and thus prevents constipation. It is
helpful intreating diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome. Fiber also
slows down the rate of glucose digestion and absorption in the
bloodstream and will help control blood sugar levels for diabetics.
And because fiber binds with cholesterol, eating fig may help support
normal cholesterol levels.
Figs contain carotenoids namely beta carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin.
Betacarotene is beneficial for vision and eye health. Lutein and
zeaxanthin from natural source are always found together. They are
helpful in reducing the risk of macular degeneration which is one of
the leading causes of blindness in the elderly.
Dried figs contain a high amount of calcium. So, the benefits of
eating the fig fruit include building and maintaining healthy bones
and preventing osteoporosis. Calcium may also prevent PMS, high blood
pressure and high cholesterol. And together with the presence of
magnesium, eating figs support strong teeth and bones.
The B vitamins present in the fig fruit are beneficial for brain
function, the production of antibody, improving circulation and many
other bodily functions.
Women and girls will benefit from eating fig because it contains iron
and it helps replace iron that is lost in the blood during
menstruation. Girls between the ages of 14 to 18 require 15mg of iron
per day and adult women who are not pregnant and below the age of 50
need 18mg per day which is a lot less compared to the RDA for men.
Figs are also high in potassium content. The National Library of
Medicine suggests that a person consumes 2 to 2.5 grams of potassium a
day. You can get some of the potassium your body needs when you eat
figs. Potassium is necessary for proper kidney functions, skeletal and
heart muscle contractions and in reducing the risk of hypokalemia
which amongthe symptoms include abnormal heart rhythms, breakdown of
muscle fibers and fatigue.
Fig leaves have medicinal values too. Drinking a decoction of the
leaves stimulates appetite and digestion in the stomach and may lower
blood sugarin people with type 1 diabetes when used with the correct
insulin dosage. Fig leaves release certain chemicals when added to
boiling water and it is usedas a steam bath to provide relief from
painful or swollen piles or hemorrhoids.

The Keys to Goodness

--
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
From amongst people are those who are keys to good and closers of
evil. There are also those who are – we seek refuge in Allaah – keys
to evil and closers of good. This is according to their condition of
good or evil. Every vessel will dispense what is present within it.
It is recorded in Ibnu Majah as well as Ibn Abi 'Asim in as-Sunnah,
and other than them, on the authority of Anas ibnu Malik that the
Messenger of Allaah salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said:
Indeed from the people are people who are keys to open the good for
the people, and to lock away the evil. And indeed from the people are
people whoare keys to lock away and block the good, and they open up
the evil for the people. So Tooba (glad tidings; scholars have also
defined this word Tooba to be a tree in Paradise) is for the one whom
Allaah subhanahu wa ta'aala places the keys of good at his hands. And
woe be to the one whom Allaah has placed the keys of evil at his
disposal.
[Hasan hadeeth, Ibn Majah: 237; as-Sunnah by Ibn Abi 'Asim: 297]
The Imaams of guidance, the callers to the Sunnah, the supports of the
religion, and the carriers of knowledge – those who call the people to
guidanceand are patient upon harm, those who bring life to the dead by
means of the Bookof Allaah and bring sight tothe blind by the light of
Allaah – they are the *keys to good.*
Imam As-Sa'dee (rahimahullaah), describing The Keys to Good , said:
From the most important factors is learning beneficial knowledge and
spreading it. Verily, this is the key to all good. From this is
enjoining the good and forbidding the evil with gentleness, kindness
and wisdom. An example of this is a servant performing a good practice
and starting a beneficial task in order that the people follow him in
doing so.
[From Abee Hurayrah (radiyAllaahu 'anhu) that the Messenger of Allaah
(salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, "Whoever calls to guidance has a
reward like the example ofthe reward of those who follow him, not
decreasing their reward in any way. And whoever calls to misguidance
has upon him the sin like the example of the sin of thosewho follow
him, not decreasing their sin in anyway." Narrated by Muslim, no.
2674.]
Another example is giving valuable advice and sincerity in the
religion, or in worldly affairs. Verily, those who advise are keys to
good and blockers of evil.
Imam As-Sa'dee also mentioned those who are keys to good take
advantage of the opportunity of gatherings by busying them with good –
and away from evil.
So when the desire for good becomes the focal point of the individual,
and his intention is determined on accomplishing his goal according to
his ability, he seeks assistance from Allaah in fulfilling his goals,
he approaches affairs in the correct manner and fashion and,as a
result, he will continue to gain good and reap reward. And the
opposite of this is lack of desire for good; much good escapes this
person. If lack of sincerity and advice for others is coupledwith
this, and he doesn't intend to benefit others in any fashion – in
fact, he may actually desire to harm and deceive them to accomplish
personal goals or corrupt beliefs – at that time, he has indeed come
with the greatest means of[harm] and elimination of good. He has
become one who deserves to be called 'a key to evil' and a blocker of
good. We seek refuge in Allaah from the evil of ourselves and of
ouractions.

World > Americas U.S. Secret Service under spotlight afterprostitution flap 2012-04-16 11:35:25 GMT 2012-04-16 19:35:25(Beijing Time) SINA.com

--
A Secret Service agent stands guard as U.S. President Barack Obama
departs on the Marine Onehelicopter for travel to Colombia for the
Summit of Americas, from the White House in Washington April 13, 2012.
(REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst)
WASHINGTON - They are known for their shiny sunglasses, dark suits,
and stern gazes.
Secret Service agents, the men and women who protect U.S. leaders, are
as much a part of the American political tableau as the presidents,
cabinet officials, and candidates they shadow and protect.
But, unlike their high-profile charges, they are not supposed to make news.
The suspension of 11 agents this weekend after alleged misconduct
involving prostitutes in Colombia brought unwelcome headlines and
attention to the agency's culture.
One critic said the incidentreflected a systemic breakdown of
standards and practices among overworked agents that could leave a
president vulnerable to an attack.
An investigation will showwhether the event, which overshadowed
President Barack Obama's meetings with Latin American leaders in
Cartagena, Colombia, was an unfortunate anomaly or a sign of an
agency-wide problem.
Either way, it shed light on the human frailties andworking conditions
of a group expected to perform discreet and self-sacrificing services
for U.S. leaders.
People familiar with the Secret Service described long work hours on
stressful presidential trips, some of which are scheduled at the last
minute.
Agents often meet at hotel bars at the end of the day on such trips to
drink and unwind. Those who are not traveling with the president
sometimes hold "wheels-up" parties after Air Force One has lifted off
for Washington or another destination.
On Thursday, some U.S. agents brought a number of prostitutes back to
a beachfront hotel in Cartagena near where Obama was due to stay the
following day, according to a local police source, sparking a weekend
of scandal.
"We've heard about these wheel-up parties when the president leaves,"
said congressman Darrell Issa, speaking on CBS' "Face theNation"
program.
"Well, this was a pre-wheel-down. So the question is, is the whole
organization in need of some soul-searching, some changes ... before
the president, the vice president, members of thecabinet are in
danger?"
Ralph Basham, a former director of the agency who is now a principal
with Command ConsultingGroup, said the incident was a rare mishap for
an agency that prides itself on its professionalism.
"I do not believe that there is a systemic problem in the Secret
Service because if there were, this wouldn't be such a huge story," he
toldReuters in an interview.
"This is really an abnormality."
"WILLING TO TAKE A BULLET"
David Gergen, a political analyst who worked for four presidents
including Ronald Reagan, who survived an assassination attempt thanks
to Secret Service protection, said occasional incidents such as the
one in Colombia were not out of character given the masculinity of
many in the profession.
Overall, he said, the agents were brave, outstanding people.
"These are guys who are willing to take a bullet to save a president.
I've seen them do that," Gergen said. "My hope is people keep it in
perspective."
One prominent critic was less forgiving, saying the connection to
prostitutes should end the careers of the agents involved.
"The fact that they were engaged in this conduct, you know,
compromises the agents," said Ronald Kessler, author of "In the
President's Secret Service: Behind the Scenes With Agents in the Line
of Fire and the Presidents They Protect."
"The prostitutes could have blackmailed them, could have been involved
with terrorists, drug cartel people, or foreign intelligence
services," he said. "Any foreign intelligence service would love to
get a Secret Serviceagent in their pocket."
Kessler said the events in Colombia were illustrative of a general
slide of Secret Service standards. He citedthe admittance of uninvited
guests to a White House holiday partyearly in Obama's tenure asfurther
evidence of lax behavior.// - -|

Islam also recommends Mother's milk, for Infants

--
Breast feeding by the mother to her new born infant is greatly
beneficial as science had proven, and it is mandatory in the Noble
Quran. Allah Almighty Commanded the mother to breast feed her child
for two full years:
"The mothers shall give such to their offspring for two whole years,
if the father desires to complete the term. But he shall bear the cost
of their food and clothing on equitable terms. No soul shall have a
burden laid on it greater than it can bear. No mothershall be Treated
unfairly onaccount of her child. Nor father on account of his child,
an heir shall be chargeable in the same way. If they both decide
onweaning, by mutual consent, and after due consultation, there is no
blame on them. If ye decide on a foster-mother for your offspring,
there is no blame on you, provided ye pay (the mother) what ye
offered, on equitable terms. But fear God and know that God sees well
what ye do. (The Noble Quran, 2:233)"// - -|

Muslim Brotherhood refuses to accept ban

--
:-*
CAIRO – The Muslim Brotherhood said Sunday that it will fight the
banning of its candidate forpresident that has thrown Egypt's move
toward elected civilian rule into disarray and threatens a return to
massive street protests.
"We do not accept it. We will challenge it," said Gehad El-Haddad, a
member of the steering committee for the Renaissance Project, which is
at the heart of the Muslim Brotherhood's presidential campaign.
Ten presidential candidateswere barred from contesting the nation's
top job in a decision announced Saturday by thepresidential election
commission, five weeks before the presidential raceis set to begin in
May.
The decision comes at the tail end of a week marred by a slew of
shocks and shifts — from a candidate jumble to a march on Tahrir
Square — that persisted in shaking the pre-election period.
"There is a continuously increasing state of confusion," Egyptian
writerand blogger Bassem Sabry said.
Among the 10 deemed ineligible to run, three were front-runners in the
race for Egypt's presidency.
They are former head of intelligence Omar Suleiman , Muslim
Brotherhood nominee Khairat al-Shater and Hazem Salah Abu Ismail , a
lawyer who supports an Islamic state such as Iran's. All three are
appealing the decisions.
Disqualified by conviction
The Brotherhood's lawyer, Abdel-Moneim Abdel-Maksoud, said Sunday that
the exclusion does not comply with applicable laws. Shater was
disqualified because of a previous criminal conviction. The group is
continuing with Shater's campaign until the electionjudge issues a
final verdict.
"At the moment, our position is that this is the continuation of the
policiesof (ousted president Hosni) Mubarak," Haddad said, adding that
his organization believes the decision is primarily targeted at Shater
and Abu Ismail who are "strong Islamic candidates."
Abu Ismail, who has seen a surge of support, has denounced American
influence and demanded an end to Egypt's peace treaty with Israel.
He was barred from the race because his mother is a U.S. citizen.
(Egyptians holding foreign passports or born to foreign parents are
disqualified.) He has sued, demanding proof of the claim from the
Interior Ministry.
"I'm guessing the Abu Ismail supporters are goingto respond in a very
exaggerated manner," Sabry said about the candidate's backers,
knownhere as Hazemoon . "I thinkit will be manageable if Suleiman
stays out of the race, … but if he is the only one allowed back in,
then it will spark extreme national unrest."
Anticipating the possibility that Shater might be disqualified, the
Muslim Brotherhood dashed last week to field the head of the
Brotherhood's Freedomand Justice Party , Mohammed Morsi, as a backup
to Shater. / :-: Translator :-:

Shift workers 'risking'Type 2 diabetes and obesity

--
:-*
Shift workers getting too little sleep at the wrong time of day may be
increasing their risk of diabetes and obesity, according to
researchers.
The team is calling for more measures to reduce the impact of shift
workingfollowing the results of its study.
Researchers controlled the lives of 21 people, including meal and bedtimes.
The results, published in Science Translational Medicine , showed
changes to normal sleep meant the body struggled to control sugar
levels.
Some participants even developed early symptomsof diabetes within weeks.
Shift work has been associated with a host of health problems.
Doctors at Brigham and Women's Hospital, in the US, were trying to
study its effects in a controlled environment.
Lower insulin levels
The 21 health-trial participants started with 10 hours' sleep at
night. This was followed by three weeks of disruption to their sleep
and body clocks.
The evidence is clear thatgetting enough sleep is important for
health, andthat sleep should be at night for best effect"
Dr Orfeu Buxton
Brigham and Women's Hospital
The length of the day was extended to 28 hours, creating an effect
similar toa full-time flyer constantly getting jet lag.
Participants were allowed only 6.5 hours' sleep in the new 28-hour
day, equivalent to 5.6 hours in anormal day. They also livedin dim
light to prevent normal light resetting the body clock.
During this part of the study, sugar levels in the blood were
"significantly increased" immediately after a meal and during"fasting"
parts of the day.
The researchers showed that lower levels of insulin - the hormone that
normally controls blood sugar - were produced.
Three of the participants had sugar levels which stayed so high after
their meals they were classified as "pre-diabetic".
They also highlighted a riskof putting on weight as thebody slowed down.
"The 8% drop in resting metabolic rate that we measured in our
participants... translates into a 12.5-pound increase in weight over a
single year," they wrote.
Clearly, this does not equate to the normal experience of shift
workers... it is not possible to conclude that the findings would
translate to real conditions in the wider public" / :-: Translator :-:

Taliban military chief held after secret talks with Afghan envoys

--
:-*
The head of Taliban's military council is to be tried by the jihadist
group for having engaged in unauthorised negotiationswith
Afghanistan's Higher Peace Council, intelligence sources have told The
Hindu .
Maulvi Muhammad Ismail was held by the Taliban in early April, two
weeks after he returned to Pakistan after a meeting with envoys from
the Higher Peace Council in the United Arab Emirates. His secret
negotiations with Kabul, the sources said, may have led the Taliban to
stage Sunday's attacks in Kabul — unprecedented in their scale — to
warn against future attempts to infiltrate its ranks.
Few details were availableon Mr. Ismail's arrest, which was impossible
to independently verify. Military sources in Kabul, however, said he
was replaced by Mullah Nasir, earlier the head of Taliban operations
in Ghazni. Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate, the
sources alleged, had unearthed Mr. Ismail's negotiation efforts, and
insisted that the Taliban crack down on it.
Taliban negotiations with the United States in Doha broke down after a
stalemate developed over the release of five prisoners held in
Guantanamo Bay. The Taliban negotiation team is made up of Tayyab
Agha, Abbas Stanikzai and Shahabuddin Delawari, who moved to Doha from
Pakistan in 2010.
However, the Higher PeaceCouncil envoys have continued to reach out to
Taliban commanders operating inside Afghanistan. Afghan politicians
have blamed the ISI for not allowing their efforts to come to
fruition. In a report issued, the International Crisis Group said
Pakistani hardliners see "victory for their Afghan proxies" as
imminent. "This contributes greatly to Kabul's lack of progress in
talks with the insurgents," the ICG stated. / :-: Translator :-:

Your “Stuff” is Not a Part of You

--
You are not defined by the stuff you own. Your "stuff" is not a part
of you. Your "stuff" will break, disappear, or be left behindone day.
In fact what truly defines our character is how we react to loss. If
we were stripped of all the possessions we love, who would we be in
that moment? Would we still be grateful to Allah, patient, trusting?
Hopefully it never comes tothat. But seriously, those times of
greatest sadness and joy are when our thoughts must turn to Allah, The
Eternal, The Merciful, The Wise.
Allah says, "Never will you attain the good until you spend from that
which you love. And whatever you spend – indeed, Allahis Knowing of
it." [Quran 3: 92]
Think about that. Allah is telling us to give away the things that we
love the most! SubhanAllah! Why does Allah ask this of us? Is it to
liberate us from slavery to material possessions? To f0cus our minds
on Allah and the aakhirah (hereafter)? To prevent the evil that
results from the love of money? To benefit the poor?:-

You change the world, or the world changes you

:-*
Keep faith in yourself and don't let anyone else define your reality.
You arestrong and unique. You have a particular mission inthis life
that only you can fulfill. You can wake up in the morning and change
the world, one small step at a time, just by fulfilling your unique
mission.
Maybe you think, "Hey, I don't want to change the world. I just want
to stay sane, take care of myself and my family, perform theIslamic
rituals and hope forJannah."
The thing is, life is always acontest between the worldchanging you,
or you changing the world. The world pushes, and if you don't push
back then it willinevitably corrupt you in one way or another.
Today's world tries to change you through the pressures of:
*. blind materialism
*. consumerism
*. sexual imagery in the media
*. constant advertising
*. negative portrayals of Islam
*. alcohol and drug use
*. peer pressure
to name a few.
Sometimes the pressures are more brutal and blunt: emotional or sexual
abuse, pornography, violence, racism, bigotry, misogyny, hatred and
war.
Iman (faith) is not static. It rises or it falls, but it never freezes
in place. If the world is not changing you then you must be
changingthe world.
You change the world by spreading light, teaching truth, being
honorable and kind, behaving with sincerity in all things, showing
compassion to all people, and always being just. You exert an outward
pressure of truth that has atransformational effect on those around
you, beginning with your family, and then rippling out to all those
you come in contact with, and then everyone they come in contact with,
flowing outward in concentric circles.
The ultimate world-changer – and our eternal example – was the
ProphetMuhammad (peace be upon him). Allah describes Prophet Muhammad
(pbuh) in the Quran as an illuminating lamp: "O Prophet, indeed We
have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner.
And one who invites to Allah, by His permission, and an illuminating
lamp." (Quran, Al Ahzab 45-46).
The Prophet's light radiatesthroughout humanity and the ages. Any
objective observer must admit the power and influence of the Prophet's
tremendous struggle. A non-Muslim writer named Michael Hart, in his
book, "The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History",
ranked the Prophet Muhammad as thesingle most influential human being
in history.
The Prophet grew up in a society of idol worship, moral corruption and
constant blood feuds, but he never allowed that society to taint his
innocent nature. Not knowing how he should worship Allah, he kept
himself distant from the evil around him and sought Allah in his own
way, until Prophethood came to him. When it did, he accepted the
burden and fulfilled the trust, exerting an outward pressure so
powerful that it changed the entire worldforever.
The same is true for you and I, on a smaller scale. We've been given a
trust and a mission. We are to be callers to Tawheed , witnesses for
truth, a civilizing force, champions of human equality, and restorers
of human values (the fact that many modern Muslims have failed
abominably on everypoint does not change the truth of this).
"O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not
die except as Muslims[in submission to Him].
And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become
divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you – when you were
enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His
favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He
saved you from it. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that
you may be guided.
And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is]
good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and
thosewill be the successful." (Quran, Aal-Imran: 102-104)
That is our mission and trust. If we fulfill it – even ifwe only try –
we will change the world, maybe incrementally, maybe profoundly. / :-:
