ARE YOU DOWN ON YOURSELF? Before all else: If you feel a nagging within yourself, of any kind, for any reason, just get rid of it. Under no condition should you let the negative feeling improve within you. As long as you have the chance tobreathe in,
As we begin, the author wants to point out that this article is not an
attack on Christianity, but addresses certain ways that Christianity
has been taught to humanity, that the author feels are particularly
harmful to our development into True Human Beings.
Many Sufis come from a Roman Catholic, or Christian background. The
Roman Catholic Church (and as far as this author knows, the Christian
Churches ) teach Original Sin. This is the belief that we are
fundamentally flawed and sinful. There is a preoccupation with sin
inthe Catholic Church, to the point where it is considered "spiritual"
to constantly regard oneself as evil or sinful. This preoccupation
with sin often travels with us when we decide to walk the dervish
path.
The nafs are subtle and can attack in unexpected ways.Who would have
thought that the nafs would say that we are sinful? There is something
called "The Tyranny of the Nafs." The nafs are tyrants. What worse
tyrant can you imagine than a tyrant that is always telling you that
you are bad and being punished for your past sins?
Many people have a love affair with suffering. Suffering is something
obsessional and considered"good" by some in the Catholic Church. Pain
itself is often not optional; however, suffering often contains an
ego-involvement with pain. Stubbing your toe is painful; but to then
tell yourself that you stubbed your toe because Allah is punishing
you, that is suffering. Some people are in love with their
suffering. These people believe that unless they are suffering,
something is not right. They actually become anxious if they begin to
feel peaceful.
We believe that the constant emphasis by the Catholic Church on
the"suffering" of the Prophet Isa (a.s.) indoctrinates a young person,
devoted to God, into believe that suffering is spiritual. Therefore to
perpetuate their suffering they turn to believing themselves
sinful, deficient, ugly, and unworthy of Allah's many blessings. Allah
created youfor a reason. He put you onearth to serve, not to
narcissistically obsess with your past.
However, by far the worse attack of the nafs is when they tell us
moderation is not enough. They are setting us up for failure.
Sometimes the nafs are notsatisfied unless they destroy the dervish.
Why? Often the dervish gives up, and leaves the tariqat , feeling he
or she cannot possibly achieve the high standards of godliness
demanded of him or her. However, are these standards really demanded?
No. Imam Ali (a.s.) and Shaykha Fariha al-Jerrahi constantly tell us
that moderation is the bestcourse. Study carefully the life and words
of the Mercyto the Worlds, Muhammad Mustafa (s.a.w.s.) and you will
see that he too always urged his companions to practice moderation.
Yet, we (through the influences of our nafs) think that we can do more
than the Prophet asked of us. In fact, we think that we can do the
work of Allah. We pass judgment on ourselves, on our behavior, on our
past, and decide that we are no good. Astagfirullah! Who is Al-Hakam ?
He, Allah, is Al-Hakam, the Judge. You are not the Judge. Because of
constant brainwashing from the nafs, the nafs constantly whisper in
your ear, "You are no good. You are sinful." Does any part ofyou have
the right to Judgeyou? Only, Allah Al-Hakam has the right to judge
you!
In addition, as a dervish, you are required to believein Allah's
Mercy, that His Mercy exceeds His wrath. Maybe your mind does not want
you to be merciful to yourself (but that is just programming from your
religious past and the workof nafs). How can you disagree with Allah,
and insist that His wrath exceeds His Mercy! Moreover, even worse,
howcan you take Allah's job on for yourself, and already condemn
yourself before Allah has judged you?:-> :-: Translator

The True Meaning of Taqwa
Allah (swt) in the Quran emphasises the concept ofTaqwa to us many times in the Quran.
Taqwa is one of the most profound concepts in Islam. Taqwa is an avenue by which Muslims relate toone another in society anda means to channel their actions. Because of the great importance of taqwa, it has been referred to numerous times in the Qur’an and Sunnah in order to emphasise its relevance and significance to the Muslims.
Allah (swt) strongly emphasises the rewards ofpeople with taqwa in this life and the Hereafter. It is these muttaqeen that Allah (swt) grants assistance, victory and provides for. Thus, understanding the conceptof taqwa is vital and mandatory for every Muslim.
Unfortunately, this is the very concept which some of us have left behind, as aresult of intellectual decline. The disbelievers inthe distant past, as well asin present times, have understood the importance of taqwa and the Islamic creed, and howit could jeopardise their interests. They realised how taqwa and the Islamic creed (‘aqeedah) were the roots of power to the Muslims. Today we see a campaign to destroy the concept of Taqwa by making us divide the Deenfrom the Dunya, to secularise our understanding of Islam such that we limit it to personal Ibadat and akhlaq (morals) and detach from any other aspect of life such as economics, politics or social affairs. Allah (swt) warned us in the Quran about their continuous attempts to extinguish his light i.e. Islam, He (swt) said:
"They wish to extinguish Allah's Light with their mouths, but Allah will not allow but that His Light is perfected even though thekuffar may detest it." [TMQ9:32]
Unfortunately due to the influence of the idea of separating the Deen and Dunya, we can see many misunderstandings amongst us as to who is defined as the Mutaqqi. A picture of a person who over emphasises prayer, fasting, and things such as donating to the masjid, while living a secluded and isolated life would be the one with taqwa, even though the same person would deal with usury, lie and do nothing towards reviving the Ummah.
Due to this idea, people look to Islam as a religion like the other religions who are not complete Deen’s that have come with solutions to every aspect of life. So if I were to ask anyone from amongst the general population of Muslims, ‘what are the rules of Salah?’ I am sure most people would be able to answer this question. But if I was to ask ‘what is the ruling or economic systemof Islam?’, ‘what are the Shariah rules relating to contracts and company structures’ or ‘what is our shar’iah responsibility towards the Muslims around the world who arebeing attacked such as in Iraq and Palestine?’ then I think many people would not know the answers to these questions, we must ask why? Didn’t Allah (swt) reveal to us a complete Deen covering all aspects of life? Didn’t Allah (swt) say in the Quran:
“And We have sent down to you the Book as an explanation of everything,a guidance, a mercy and glad-tidings for those whosubmitted themselves to Islam.” [TMQ 16:89]
So let us understand the true meaning of Taqwa. Incontrast to the distorted picture that people have today, the Qur’an and Sunnah defines the idea oftaqwa as protecting oneself from the Hellfire by following the orders of Allah (swt) by doing what He (swt) has commanded and avoiding what He (swt) has forbidden. Many ayat in the Qur’an point tothis:
“And unto Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth. And, verily, We have recommended to the people of the Scripture before you, and to you (O Muslims) that you (all) fearAllah, and keep your duty to Him, But if you disbelieve, then unto Allahbelongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, and Allah is EverRich, Worthy of all praise.” [TMQ An-Nisa’ 4: 131]:-: TRANSLATOR :-: http://translate.google.co.in/m?hl=en&twu=1

What to Say on Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Power
The last ten nights of Ramadan are here. This is an amazing, powerful,
unique time. These days are the most spiritually charged days of the
year, more full of power than a great star or the mighty ocean. And
one of these days is Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Power, equal to a
thousand months. Every prayer is magnified, every good deed is
multiplied exponentially.
What to say during Laylat al-Qadr? It is recommended to supplicate a
lot during this night. It is reported from 'Aisha (ra), that she said:
"OMessenger of ALLAH! What if I knew which night Lailatul-Qadr was,
then what should I say in it?" The Prophet (PBUH) said.- "Say.-
(Allahumma innaka 'affuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'annee.)
"O ALLAH You are The One Who pardons greatly, and loves to pardon, so
pardon me."
[reported by at-Tirmithi]
I also wish to remind everyone that all difficulties pass, all
troublespass. Hard times don't last, but strong people do! Worry if
you must, but do not fear. Allah is with you. He is The Forgiving, The
Merciful, The Loving, and the Giver of Peace. Call upon Him,
especially during this blessed time. You have no idea how much your
worship at this special time is valued. Morethan any of us can count.
SubhanAllah./

Are girls less than equal to boys?
there so insignificant representation of girls in premier institutions
like the IIT?
When I raised this question to a group of young boys, pat came the answer:
"They are in the habit of learning by rote, or by-hearting or mugging
up, whatever you call it. Therefore, they fare well in the +2
examination — but the same method will not see them through entrance
examinations."
"They can only sponge off a prescribed syllabus through extensive
revisions and periodical examinations."
One boy laughed and commented sarcastically, "O girls! Nobody occupies
their upstairs. There is total power cut up there. They can rent out
the portion to rats and bats." (This boy can sure do with some
load-shedding, I thought). No scientific study has concluded
absolutely that boys are the sole possessor of grey matter.
But the fact remains that girls do not perform well in entrance examinations.
A century ago, Virginia Woolf reflected on why the Elizabethan age in
England, the glorious age of English literature that inspired every
other man to pen a song or sonnet, did not record a single female
author?
In order to show that any woman born with a gift inthe 16th century
England would have gone crazy or shot herself or lived her life in
isolation, Woolf created an imaginary sister for Shakespeare, equally
talented and brilliant, with a taste for theatre. She conjured up a
story of this adventurous woman who, like her brother, would have had
to leave home and knock on the door of a drama company. But unlike as
forher brother, the road to theatre and fame led this woman to
disaster, the kind that would happen toany young woman running away
from home, unescorted; and her life concluded ingloriously swinging at
the end of a rope. Woolf championed a"room of one's own" that would
give talented women the space and solitude to give expressionto their
art.

Rainy day
I love this interpretation of a rainyday in black and white.
I think black and white conveys the dreariness of a rainy day
exceptionally well.
Of course, anyone who knows me, knows that I love the black and white
photo. No surprises there.
However, I feel far from dreary today. Instead, with the windowsand
door screens open today, listening to the pitter-patter of therain
outside invigorates me.

can't sit on the back porch, so it's the perfect day to clean and

New drugs to treat allergies are safe: expert
an expert has said that new generation anti-histamine drugs to treat
them are safe, effective and do not produce sedative effect.
In an interview with The Hindu in connection with a prestigious global
medical conference being hosted atHyderabad International Convention
Centre (HICC) here by the World Allergy Organisation (WAO), Dr. Ruby
Pawankar, the first woman to head the 35,000-member body has dismissed
as non-scientific the treatment of fish medicine to treat asthma.
'Severe allergies, Severe Asthma: New Strategies forOptimal Treatment
and Prevention' is the theme ofthe four-day event beginning on
December 6. Superior infrastructure facilities at HICC and the
presence of a number of good hospitals has enabledHyderabad to bag the
event over three other cities, according to Dr. Pawankar. Around 2,500
delegates, including 70 world-renowned experts, are expected to attend
the conference. A medical graduate of the Armed Forces Medical
College, Pune, she is living in Japan since 20 years. Excerpts:
Q: Which is the most common form of allergy
Around 400 million people across the globe suffer from nasal allergy,
followed by 300 million from asthma and 200 million are affected by
food allergies. We presumethe number of those affected by asthma is
under-estimated. All over the world around 2.5 lakh people die of
asthma annually. The other types of allergies are those relating to
skin, insects andoccupation among others.
What are the reasons for rise in asthma cases
Asthma cases are indeed increasing. An internationalstudy of asthma
and allergies in children found that there was a doubling of asthma in
developing countries. Allergies are becoming more complex and severe.
Causes could be many, including genetic,lifestyle-related, food
allergy and environmental and what is called "hygiene hypothesis".
Allergens are increasing due to global warming. Climate change and
global warming is having an impact on migration of allergens.
Your views on the treatment protocol for allergies
First generation anti-histamine drugs whichcause sedation are no
longer recommended. We recommend second generation drugs which don't
have sedative effect. They are safe and effective.Nasal and skin
allergies arecontrolled by these drugs. Also the newer inhalers
containing steroids are safe.
What is WAO's role in combating various types ofallergies?
WAO is leveraging internationally with various ministries of health,
the UN and WHO to bring allergies on the agenda of Non-Communicable
Diseases (NCDs) along with diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular and other
ailments. More resources could be garnered if it is declared as an
NCD. Deaths due to allergies and asthma are unwarranted. We have to
partner to make a reduction in burden of allergic diseases.
How well-developed is the discipline of allergies treatment in India?
It is not well-developed in India. WAO is working closely with Union
Ministry of Health to make this a full-fledged specialty. WAO has
prepared a position paper on the syllabus for post-graduate and
under-graduate courses.
What is your view on fish medicine treatment for asthma?
I have heard about it and feel it is absolutely non-scientific and has
no scientific basis. Let someone furnish scientific data on how it
cures asthma and I will then believe it.

Why are you Muslim?
many of us don't have a clear answer to it. I remember being asked
this question by my elder brother when I was fourteen years of age, my
initial answer was'Well, our family is Muslim', his reply to this made
me think, he said, 'If your family were Hindu or Christian, would you
be as well?'. I replied with a strong 'No, Islam is the truth', the
discussion that followed made me question the basis of my life and
changed my life for ever. He triggered me to think about how to prove
that Islam is the truth rather than just believing it emotionally
orblindly. In fact Allah (swt) has condemned people forimitating their
forefathers and adopting their belief without clear evidence.
In the Holy Qur'an, He (swt) says:
"And verily guess is no substitute for the truth." [TMQ 53:28]
"They have no (certain) knowledge. They follow nothing but conjecture.
For surely; they killed him not ('Isa)." [TMQ 4:157]
"These are nothing but names which you have devised, you and your
fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow
nothing but conjecture and what their Nafs desire.Even though there
has already come to them the Guidance from their Rabb"[TMQ 53:23]
"Do you have Ilm (knowledge) for that which you claim so that you
provide us with? You follow nothing but conjecture (Zann)." [TMQ
6:148]
The followers of other religions have no decisive proof for their
belief, therefore they believe in their religions emotionallyor
through imitation. Some of them think that you just have to have
faithwithout clear proof. However when it comes tonormal things in
life people apply a lot of thought such as buying a car, house,
choosing a University course or whichbank to join, so how can itbe
that when it comes to the most important questions about life; which
define the purpose of our lives that we shouldjust have 'faith'
without being convinced absolutely.
It is therefore vital for a Muslim to believe in the existence of
Allah (swt) without any doubt whatsoever and to believein the
Prophethood of Muhammad (saw) and that the Qur'an is the final
revelation sent by Allah (swt) to humanity. Islam isunlike all the
other religions as it has a decisive proof that convinces the mind.

Lung cancer cases rise in UK women:
released by Cancer Research UK.
It says more than 18,000 UK women were diagnosedwith lung cancer in
2009, compared with fewer than 8,000 in 1975.
Cases of lung cancer reflect smoking rates two to threedecades
earlier, as more than 80% of cases are linked to tobacco.
Lung cancer is still more common in men, with more than 23,000 cases
in 2009, but rates have been falling fast.
That means lung cancer incidence is now just under59 per 100,000 UK
men compared with 110 in 1975.
The comparable figure for women was 39 in every 100,000 women in 2009
- but 22 in 1975.
Wartime peak
Smoking rates for women in Britain were highest during the 1960s, with
around 45% of women smoking, but that has now fallen to around 20%.
The teenage girls and young women we see around us smoking todayare
the lung cancer statistics of the future"
Dr John Moore-Gillon
British Lung Foundation
Male smoking rates peakedat 65% during WWII, downnow to 22%. The lung
cancer rate in men peaked three decades later/

The Life of this Worldis Fleeting Enjoyment
"Know that the life of thisworld is only play and amusement, pomp and
mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respectof wealth and
children. (It is) like a rain (Ghayth), thereof the growth is pleasing
to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow;
then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe
torment, and (there is) forgiveness from Allah and (His) pleasure. And
the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment." [57:20]
Allah the Exalted degrades the significance of this life and belittles
it by saying,
"that the life of this worldis only play and amusement, pomp and
mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respectof wealth and
children."
Meaning, this is the significance of this life to its people, just as
He said inanother Ayah,
"Beautified for men is thelove of things they covet; women, children,
much of gold and silver (wealth), branded beautiful horses, cattle and
well-tilled land. This is the pleasure of the present world's life;
but Allah has the excellent return with Him." ( 3:14 )
Allah the Exalted also sets aparable for this life, declaring that its
joys are fading and its delights are perishable, saying that life is,
"Like a rain (Ghayth)," which is the rain that comes down to mankind,
after they had felt despair....

The doorbell rang in the house of the grandfather, and
four-year-oldFahd ran to open the door. Soon, he returned running and
jumping, announcing the visitor to his grandfather, "Grandpa! Shaykh Al
'Uthaymeen is waiting for you in the salon."
The grandfather smiled and askedinquiringly, "Who is it Fahd? Talk seriously."
Fahd said insistently, "By Allaah, grandpa, Shaykh Al 'Uthaymeen is
sitting in the salon."
The grandfather went to receive his guest and returned soon to hold
back the mother of Fahd from punishing him saying,"Leave him daughter,
Fahd did notlie. The day before yesterday, he heard me talking to you
about Shaykh Al 'Uthaymeen, May Allaah have mercy upon him, whom I
described as a slim round-faced man, with large eyes and a thick white
beard. When Fahd saw my friend Hajj Husayn, who has come to visit us,
with the same appearance, he imagined that it was Shaykh Al
'Uthaymeen!"

Allah explaines, if we lost some thing; How to manage:
the person we want, have we ever stopped to consider the possibility
that it may have been for our own good?
Allah tells us in the Quran: "…But perhaps you hate a thing and it is
good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And
Allah Knows, while you know not." (2:216)
We end up staring indefinitely at the closed doors of our lives, and
forget to notice the ones that have opened. When we can't marry the
person we had in mind, our inability to look beyond may even blind
sight us from someonewho is in fact better for us. When we don't get
hired, or we lose something dear to us, it's hard to take a step back
and notice the bigger picture. Often Allah takes things away from us,
only to replace them with something greater."
