*- WHAT ISLAM SAYS -* - Islam is a religion of Mercy, Peace and Blessing. Its teachings emphasize kind hear tedness, help, sympathy, forgiveness, sacrifice, love and care.Qur’an, the Shari’ah and the life of our beloved Prophet (SAW) mirrors this attribute, and it should be reflected in the conduct of a Momin.Islam appreciates those who are kind to their fellow being, and dislikes them who are hard hearted, curt, and hypocrite.Recall that historical moment, when Prophet (SAW) entered Makkah as a conqueror. There was before him a multitude of surrendered enemies, former oppressors and persecutors, who had evicted the Muslims from their homes, deprived them of their belongings, humiliated and intimidated Prophet (SAW) hatched schemes for his murder and tortured and killed his companions. But Prophet (SAW) displayed his usual magnanimity, generosity, and kind heartedness by forgiving all of them and declaring general amnesty...Subhanallah. May Allah help us tailor our life according to the teachings of Islam. (Aameen)./-

Moadoodi Criticism on Islam

Maktaba Jaame Noor, Delhi
All quotes are with references, with page numbers of books by Maudoodi.
According to Maudoodi, the Sun-Worshipers, Stone-Worshipers etc. are on the right path too:
Maudoodi, “If a human being (Insaan)believes in God (Khuda) or not, prostrates to God or stone, worships God or something else - but if he/she is following the rules of nature and live by those rules then indeed he/she without knowledge and without intention is Praising (doing Tasbeeh) of God, worshiping HIM.(Allah).”(Tafheemat, Part 1 Page 43)
What happened to Tawheed (the oneness of Allah Ta’ala and La ilaaha illal lah) and ONLY Allah’s worthiness of worship? According to Quran and Ahadith anyone who worships other than Allah Ta’ala is a disbeliever (Kafir) but according to Maudoodi they are on the right path. Here Maudoodi is out-rightly rejecting the orders of Allah (the Supreme) and His Noble Apostle (blessings & peace be Upon Him).
Criticism on Quran and Allah Ta’ala’s Orders:
Maudoodi, “In places where the quality of social behavior is so low that illicit relationships (i.e. adultery) are not considered wrong - to impose the Shariah prescribed (Islamic Law) punishment of Zina and Qazaf in such places, is indeed an injustice (Zulm)”(Tafheemat, Part 2 Page 281)
Whoever rejects one Ayat (verse) of Quran is definitely not a Muslim. Here Maudoodi has rejected the Quran's punishment on Zina. The Quran is the Word of Allah Ta’ala. Therefore Maudoodi has a problem with Allah Ta’ala’s prescribed punishments. He thinks he knows what’s better for people and what’s right and what’s wrong - more than Allah Ta’ala (Na-ozubillah).
According to him it’s not a must to believe in Prophet Mohammad Peace Be Upon Him:
Maudoodi, “The people who, due to ignorance and illiteracy, do not believe in the truthfulness of the Arab Prophet Rasoole Arabi (peace be upon him) but believe in the previous prophets and live peacefully will get as much part of Allah’s Rehmat (Mercy) as their punishment will be reduced.” (Tafheemat, Part 1 Page 168)
Here Maudoodi has rejected the Kalima. How can one be blessed if he/she does not believe on the second part of Kalima (Mohammad ur-Rasool Allah). Yet another example of Maudoodi’s rejection of the basic tenets of Islam & rejection of the orders of Allah (the Supreme) and His Noble Apostle (blessings & peace be Upon Him).
Criticism on Prophet Peace Be Upon Him:
Maudoodi, “The reason the prophet (Nabi Sallal Laho Alaihi Wasallam) achieved the great success in Arabia was simply because of the amazing recruits he (peace be upon him) had found. Had he (peace be upon him) been surrounded by weak, coward, untrustworthy and ill willed people would he (peace be upon him) have then achieved the same results?” (Tehreeke Islami ki Ikhlaqi Bunyadain, Page 17)
So what about Allah Ta’ala’s assistance? What about our beloved Prophet’s (blessings & peace be upon him) own prophetic & miraculous abilities? In other words, as per Maudoodi, the abilities of the people who accepted faith was the cause of success, and not the ability of those who made them Muslims.
Criticism of the Prophet’s Sunnah:
Maudoodi, “To classify as Sunnah, those routine domestic tasks the prophet (peace be upon him) performed out of habit, and then ask all the humans of the world to follow them - Allah and Rasool (peace be upon him) never intended that. This is an addition in religion.
I believe, that to acknowledge these things as Sunnah and then insist to follow them is a harsh Bid’ah (innovation) and a dangerous addition. This has showed bad results and might produce bad results in future too.” (Rasaail O Masaail, Part 2 Page 300, with reference of Magazine “Mansab”, Risalat addition)
No Sunnah in a Muslim’s life? Is following the Sunnah a Bid’ah? Allah and Rasool (Peace be upon him) never intended that? Has Maudoodi ever read the Quran and Ahadith? Oh sorry - this guy’s Quran translation (which is full of errors) is in many of the houses of the world, so he must have. I wonder should people carry on with his Quranic work or throw those copies in the ocean? Dear Muslims, save your faith! Please.
Maudoodi’s denial of Ahadeeth:
Maudoodi, “The teachings of Quran and Sunnate Rasool (Traditions of the Holy Prophet) are a must for all but not from the old collection of Quranic exegesis (Tafseer) and Ahadeeth.” (Tanqihaat, Page 114)
Hmm, no old collection of Ahadeeth? How would that be possible unless we get a new Rasool? Or a new Rasool every few years to keep the Ahadeeth fresh?
Maudoodi’s constitution for Jama’at-e-Islami’s membership:
Maudoodi, “No one would be included as a member in Jama’at on the grounds that he was born in a Muslim’s home, his name is like Muslims so he must be a Muslim.
Similarly, if someone recites the words of Kalema Tayyaba only with his tongue without understanding its meaning, that person will not be able to join the Jama’at”. (Dastoor Jamate Islami, Page 26)
If being born in a Muslim home, to have a Muslim name & to recite the Kalema, are not enough to accept any one as a Muslim, then what are the right criteria?
Unless we witness the rejection of belief from that person - like we have been witnessing from Maudoodi - we have to accept them as Muslims according to the injunctions of the Holy Quran and Ahadeeth. If the Quran and Ahadeeth teach us this, then who is Maudoodi to deny these sacred Laws of Shariat?
These are a few of the examples quoted here - but the list goes on and on. What a fraud he was.
Conclusion:
All of the above can be verified by reading the books of Maudoodi. We appeal to all Muslims NOT to read his exegesis or translation of Quran. It has many serious errors as explains the Qur’an by his own thoughts – whatever comes in his mind and what he believes - instead of writing the real meaning of the Quran. May Allah Ta’ala save us all from his trial & turmoil. Aameen.

Dought & clear, - Meaning of the hadeeth: “The Shaytaan has despaired of ever being worshipped by the worshippers in the Arabian Peninsula”.

It is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The Shaytaan has despaired of ever being worshipped by the worshippers in the Arabian Peninsula.” In another hadeeth it says: “Night and day will not cease until al-Laat and al-‘Uzza are worshipped.” And in another hadeeth it says: “Until the buttocks of the women of Daws bump into one another going around Dhu’l-Khalasah.”
My question is: from the first hadeeth it may be understood that no shirk will ever be committed in the Arabian Peninsula. Whereas the second hadeeth indicates that it will be committed.
Praise be to Allaah.
One of the things that are established by the scholars is that shirk will take place in the ummah as is indicated by the sound texts, and reality confirms this.
Many of the Arabs apostatized after the death of the Prophet(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and many of them went back to worshipping idols.
The mujaddid (renewer of the Faith) Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhaab said: “Chapter: Reports that some of this ummah will worship idols”, then he mentioned some ahaadeeth which indicate that.
With regard to the hadeeth: “The Shaytaan has despaired of ever being worshipped…” the scholars have interpreted it in several ways:
1 – That the Shaytaan has despaired of ever getting all worshippers to unite on kufr.
This view was favoured by the great scholar Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali.Al-Darar al-Sunnah, 12/117.
2 – That this is a report of the despair that befell the Shaytaan when he saw the conquests and how the people entered the religion of Allaah in crowds. So the hadeeth is telling us what the Shaytaan thought and he expected to happen. Then what really happened was something other than that, for a reason decreed by Allaah.
This view was favoured by Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him).Al-Qawl al-Mufeed, 1/211.
3 – That the Shaytaan despaired of the believers whose faith is complete, because the Shaytaan has no hope that they will worship him.
This view was favoured by al-Aloosi. SeeDa’aawa al-Munaawi’een, 224.
4 – That the “al-” in the word “al-musalloon” (worshippers) refers to a specific group of worshippers, and that what is meant is the Sahaabah.
All of these interpretations are close in meaning, and the most likely is the second. And Allaah knows best.

Dought & clear, - Islamic ‘aqeedah is a practical method; and important books on ‘aqeedah.

Is Islamic ‘aqeedah a theoretial method or a practical method? What books can we read to learn about ‘aqeedah? How can we apply ‘aqeedah in real life? What are the ways of learning ‘aqeedah? Is doing one Islamic thing and not another (such as praying but not giving zakaah or not lowering the gaze etc) regarded as a fault in one’s ‘aqeedah? Do the Muslims nowadays need someone to teach them ‘aqeedah?
I hope you can offer some information to one who wants to learn true ‘aqeedah according to the method of the Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them).
Praise be to Allaah.
Firstly:
Islamic ‘aqeedah is not a theoretical and philosophical method; action is an essential part of this ‘aqeedah. Hence the Ahl al-Sunnah are agreed that eeman (faith) consists of both words and deeds, or speaking with the tongue, believing in the heart and acting with the physical faculties.
Whoever believes in Allaah as his Lord and God, will worship Him and obey Him by praying, giving zakaah and so on.
Whoever believes in the Last Day and its reckoning and reward or punishment, will be motivated thereby to do that which Allaah has commanded and abstain from that which He has forbidden.
Whoever believes that Muhammad(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is the Messenger of Allaah will therefore obey him, follow his Sunnah and propagate his religion.
Thus the principles in which a person believes are translated into actions and words and efforts. The stronger that faith grows in his heart, the more its effects will be seen outwardly.
Hence the Prophet(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “In the body there is a piece of flesh which, if it is sound, the entire body will be sound, and if it is corrupt, the entire body will be corrupt. It is the heart.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 52; Muslim, 1599.
Al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: “Faith is not the matter of wishes or outward appearances, rather it is that which settles in the heart and is confirmed by one's actions.”
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: “If the heart is sound in terms of faith, knowledge and feelings, then this will inevitably lead to the soundness of physical actions, such as verbal statements and deeds. As the leading scholars of hadeeth said: Words and deeds, both inward and outward. What is outward must follow what is inward, so if what is inward is sound then what is outward will also be sound, and if it (the former) is corrupt, (the latter) will also be corrupt. Hence one of the Sahaabah said concerning the one who prayed carelessly: If his heart had been humble and focused, his body would have been humble and focused.
Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 7/187
Secondly:
With regard to books which one may read about ‘aqeedah, there are many, the greatest of which are the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), in which there is protection and salvation for those who adhere closely to them. The scholars were concerned with explaining and propagating sound ‘aqeedah, and they wrote innumerable books on this topic. Among the most famous of these books are the following:
Al-Sunnahby ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal
Al-Tawheedby Ibn Khuzaymah
Sharh Usool I’tiqaad Ahl al-Sunnahby al-Laalkaa’i
‘Aqeedat al-Salaf wa Ashaab al-Hadeethby al-Sabooni
al-‘Aqeedah al-Waasitiyyahby Ibn Taymiyah [available in English translation]
al-‘Aqeedah al-Tahhaawiyyah wa Sharhuhaby Ibn Abi’l-‘Izz al-Hanafi
Lawaami’ al-Anwaar al-Bahiyyahby al-Safaareeni
Ma’aarij al-Quboolby Haafiz Hakami
Al-Irshaad ila Saheeh al-I’tiqaadby Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan – this is an easy and useful book.
Thirdly:
With regard to applying this ‘aqeedah in real life, this is done by learning it, propagating it, calling others to it, and refuting those who go against it with wisdom and beautiful preaching. This is how ‘aqeedah is spread and its effects made manifest so that all people may benefit from it.
Fourthly:
The way in which ‘aqeedah may be learned is to learn it directly from those who believe in it and act accordingly. This is the soundest and best way for those who are able to do it. For those who are far away from scholars, they should refer to their commentaries, writings and tapes, as well as asking about confusing matters and anything they do not understand.
Fifthly:
If a person follows some of the teachings of Islam and neglects others, by failing to do some of the obligatory duties or by committing some of the acts that are forbidden, this is a shortcoming in his faith and a weakness in his belief and his love for his Lord and His religion. This is undoubtedly a fault in his ‘aqeedah.
Hence one of the basic principles of Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa’ah is that faith increases by doing acts of worship and decreases by doing acts of sin. These shortcomings and faults may erase faith altogether, so that the person becomes an apostate from Islam, such as if he stops praying. See question no. 5208and 2182.
With regard to sins that do not reach the level of kufr, such as withholding obligatory zakaah or looking at haraam things and so on, these are things which cause faith to decrease.
Sixthly:
The Muslims need people to explain pure, correct ‘aqeedah to them, that is based on the Qur’aan and Sunnah according to the understanding of the righteous salaf. That is because of the widespread existence of ignorance, innovations (bid’ah), myths and deviant schools of thought.
Every Muslim must be sincere towards himself first of all, by learning correct aqeedah from trustworthy sources, then by propagating it and teaching it to the people, by means of lessons and lectures, books, publications and magazines, thus fulfilling the duty to convey the message as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“(And remember) when Allaah took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) to make it (the news of the coming of Prophet Muhammad and the religious knowledge) known and clear to mankind, and not to hide it”
[Aal ‘Imraan 3:187]
“Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma‘roof (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful”
[Aal ‘Imraan 3:104]
“Say (O Muhammad): ‘This is my way; I invite unto Allaah (i.e. to the Oneness of Allaah — Islamic Monotheism) with sure knowledge, I and whosoever follows me (also must invite others to Allaah, i.e. to the Oneness of Allaah — Islamic Monotheism with sure knowledge). And Glorified and Exalted be Allaah (above all that they associate as partners with Him). And I am not of the Mushrikoon (polytheists, pagans, idolaters and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah; those who worship others along with Allaah or set up rivals or partners to Allaah)’”
[Yoosuf 12:108]
And Allaah knows best.
