*- WHAT ISLAM SAYS -* - Islam is a religion of Mercy, Peace and Blessing. Its teachings emphasize kind hear tedness, help, sympathy, forgiveness, sacrifice, love and care.Qur’an, the Shari’ah and the life of our beloved Prophet (SAW) mirrors this attribute, and it should be reflected in the conduct of a Momin.Islam appreciates those who are kind to their fellow being, and dislikes them who are hard hearted, curt, and hypocrite.Recall that historical moment, when Prophet (SAW) entered Makkah as a conqueror. There was before him a multitude of surrendered enemies, former oppressors and persecutors, who had evicted the Muslims from their homes, deprived them of their belongings, humiliated and intimidated Prophet (SAW) hatched schemes for his murder and tortured and killed his companions. But Prophet (SAW) displayed his usual magnanimity, generosity, and kind heartedness by forgiving all of them and declaring general amnesty...Subhanallah. May Allah help us tailor our life according to the teachings of Islam. (Aameen)./-

Invite Allah’s Power and Wisdom Into Your Life

Allah's power and wisdom are limitless and beyond our comprehension.
But guess what? There is a key that brings Allah's infinite wisdom
into play in your life. That key is prayer. Salat and dua' arelike a
special hotline that transcends the veils of space and time and goes
directly to Allah. Prayer is the means and the voice that Allah has
given us to speak to Him, ask His forgiveness, and request His
assistance and wisdom in any situation that we are dealing with. And it
works.
"And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I
am near. I respond to theinvocation of the supplicant when he calls
upon Me. So let them respond to Me and believe in Me that they may be
guided." Quran, Al-Baqarah 2:186
Miracles happen every day. Do you not believe that miracles can happen
in your life as well? Do you think that you are too insignificant for
that?SubhanAllah. Allah sees and knows every fallen leaf, every grain
in the darkness of the earth; and He knows your innermost thoughts. He
iscloser to you than your jugular vein. (Quran 50:16)
Do you think that Allah's nearness to you is because He mistrusts you?
No! Allah has nothing to fear from you,and therefore nothing to
mistrust. Allah is near to you because He loves you. He is near to you
because He cares about you and understands your pain. He is near to
you so that He can help you. You matter, as much as the ocean, the
trees and the stars. You are important to Allah, not asa general
concept, but you, as an individual person with your own private needs
and fears. You only have to turn to Him, and call upon Him; and His
wisdom, power and guidance will manifest in your life.
I personally went through a very difficult period when I was younger.
At the time I feltthat I had failed in life. I was beginning to feel
some despair. But I kept my faith in Allah, and I prayed to Him in the
day and the dark of the night. I trusted Allah, and I knew that He
would notabandon me. And then the last person I would expect, an
acquaintance who I hardly knew and who had no reason to care about me
or my situation, suddenly took an interest and began helping me.
Within a short period of time I hada job, and was able to get my own
apartment, and my life had changed completely. It was literally a
miracle. Even now it blows my mind. Allah stepped into that situation,
and He made the impossible possible, because I believed in Himand I
prayed.
Miracles happen every day. Allah hears you. You matter.
"O You the Ever Living Who sustains all that exists! O You Who
createdthe heavens and the earth without precedence. O You, Who Owns
the glory and the honor, none has the rightto be worshipped except
You. We seek refuge withYour mercy. Grant Us success in all of our
matters. Please, do not abandon us to rely on ourselves even for an
instant nor on any of Your creation." – (dua' mentioned in Tafsir ibn
Kathir)

Be All About Allah

Be all about Allah and your connection with Him, no matter what's
happening around you. On Yawm Al-Qiyamah (the Day of Resurrection) it
will be you standing before Allah. No one will step in to take your
place. No one will disputetruth or promote falsehood. No bigot will
harm you, and no lover will help. Only your relationship with Allah
will matter, while all else will be irrelevant, so don't wait until
it's too late. Let it be all about you and Allah, right now.
Represent your faith. Liveyour deen with courage. With a single verse
of theQuran you could light up a city. With the Shahadah (the
testimony of faith) you could build a nation and part the sea, and I'm
not speaking of the Red Sea, but of the sea of chaos, suffering and
war that covers the world.
Be yourself, speak your truth, express love in your daily actions and
speech no matter what anyone else says or does. They are responsible
for their own souls, and you for yours. You will not be asked about
them, nor they about you. You will be asked what you did for Allah,
for truth, for humanity; but that is about you, not them. The end is
with Allah.
Don't give up on yourself. You have far yet to go, Insha'Allah. Never
hate yourself or harm yourself. You are more precious than the crescent
moon.
Follow the path of your dream like a bloodhound. Be the idealyou, the
you that shines in your imagination, the you that is brave and strong.
That image of the"ideal you" that you havein your head, that is not
asilly daydream, that is in fact who you are meant to be! Be that
person, step out of your chrysalis, emerge from the shadows, hold your
head up, and don't worry whatanyone thinks, because as Dr. Seuss
famously said, those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't
mind.

Tiny Love Stories to Make You Smile

Here's a selection of 60 tiny love stories recently submitted to our
sister site, Makes Me Think , thatnot only made us think, but warmed
our hearts and made us smile too. We hope they do the same for you.
1. Today, my 75-year-old grandpa who has been blind from cataracts
foralmost 15 years said to me, "Your grandma is just the most
beautiful thing, isn't she?" I paused for a second and said, "Yes she
is. I bet you miss seeing that beauty on a daily basis." "Sweety," my
grandpa said, "I still seeher beauty every day. In fact, I see it more
now than I used to when we were young."MMT
2. Today, I walked my daughter down the aisle. Ten years ago I pulled
a 14 year old boy out of his mom's fire-engulfed SUV after a serious
accident. Doctors initially said he would never walk again. My
daughter came with me several times to visit him at thehospital. Then
she started going on her own. Today, seeing himdefy the odds and
smilewidely, standing on his own two feet at the altar as he placed a
ring on my daughter's finger MMT.
3. Today, I walked up to the door of my office (I'm a florist) at 7AM
to find a uniformed Army soldier standing out front waiting. He was on
his way to the airport to go to Afghanistan for a year. He said, "I
usually bringhome a bouquet of flowers for my wife every Friday and I
don'twant to let her down when I'm away." He then placed an order for
52 Friday afternoon deliveries of flowers to his wife's office and
asked me to schedule one for each week untilhe returns. I gave him
a50% discount because it made my day to see something so sweet. MMT
4. Today, I told my 18 yearold grandson that nobody asked me to prom
when I was in high school, so I didn't attend. He showed up at my
house this evening dressed in a tuxedo and took me as his date to his
prom. MMT
5. Today, when she woke up from an eleven month coma, she kissedme and
said, "Thank you for being here, andtelling me those beautiful
stories, and never giving up on me… And yes, I will marry you." MMT
6. Today, I was sitting on a park bench eating a sandwich for lunch
when an elderly couplepulled their car up under a nearby oak tree.
They rolled down the windows and turned up some jazz music on the
radio. Then the man got out of the car, walked around to the passenger
side, openedthe door for the woman, took her hand and helped her out
of her seat, guided her about ten feet away from the car, and they
slow danced for the next half hour under the oak tree. MMT
7. Today, I operated on a little girl. She needed O- blood. We didn't
have any, but her twin brother has O- blood. I explained to him that
itwas a matter of life anddeath. He sat quietly fora moment, and then
said goodbye to his parents. I didn't think anything of it until after
we took his bloodand he asked, "So when will I die?" He thought he was
giving his life for hers. Thankfully, they'll both be fine. MMT
8. Today, my dad is the best dad I could ask for. He's a loving husband
to my mom (always making her laugh), he'sbeen to every one of my
soccer games since Iwas 5 (I'm 17 now), andhe provides for our family
as a constructionforeman. This morning when I was searching through my
dad's toolbox for a pliers, I found a dirty folded up paper at the
bottom. It was an old journal entry in my dad's handwriting dated
exactly one month before the day I was born. It reads, "I am eighteen
years old, an alcoholic who is failing out of college, a past cutter,
and a child abuse victim with a criminal record of auto theft. And
next month, 'teen father' will be added to the list. But I swear I
will make things right for my littlegirl. I will be the dad I never
had." And I don't know how he did it, but he did it. MMT
9. Today, my 8-year-old son hugged me and said, "You are the best mom
in the whole entire world!" I smiled and sarcastically replied, "How
do you know that? You haven'tmet every mom in the whole entire world."
My son squeezed me tighter and said, "Yes I have. You are my world."
MMT
10. Today, I have an elderly patient who is suffering from a severe
case of Alzheimer's. He can rarely remember his own name, and he often
forgets where he is and what he saidjust a few minutes beforehand. But
by the stretch of some miracle (perhaps the miracle of love), he
remembers who is wife is every morning when she shows up tospend a few
hours with him. He usually greets her by saying, "Hello my beautiful
Kate." MMT
11. Today, my 21 year old Labrador can barely stand up, can't see,
can't hear, and doesn't have enough strength to bark. But it doesn't
stop her from wagging her tail a mile a minute every single time I
walk intothe room. MMT
12. Today is our 10th anniversary, but since my husband and I are both
recently unemployed we agreed not to get each other any gifts. When I
woke up this morning, my husband was already up. I walked downstairs
to find beautiful wild flowers brilliantly arranged all over the
house. There must be 400 flowers total and he didn't spend a dime. MMT
13. Today, my high schoolboyfriend, who I thought I'd never see again,
showed me thepictures of the two of us he kept in his Army helmet
while he was overseas for the last 8 years. MMT
14. Today, my 88-year-oldgrandmother and her 17 year old cat are both
blind. My grandmother's guide dog leads my grandmother around the
house, which is normal. But lately, he'sbeen guiding her cat around
the house too. When her cat meows, he walks up and rubs against her,
and then she follows directly behind him to her food, to the litter
box, to the other end of the house for a nap, etc. MMT
15. Today, I watched in horror through the kitchen window as
my2-year-old slipped andfell head first into the pool. But before I
could get to her, our Labrador Retriever, Rex, jumped in after her,
grabbed her by her shirt collar and pulled her to the shallow steps
where she could stand. MMT
16. Today, my older brother has donated bone marrow 16 timesto help
treat my cancer. He communicates directlywith my doctor and does it
without me even asking or knowing when he hasan appointment. And today
my doctor informed me that the treatment appears to be working.
"Cancer cells have been drastically reduced in the last few months."
MMT
17. Today, I was driving home with my grandfather when he suddenly
made a u-turn and said, "I forgot to get your grandmother a bouquet of
flowers. I'llpick up one from the florist at the corner down here.
It'll only take a second." "What's so special about today that you
have to buy her flowers?" I asked. "There's nothing specifically
special about today," my grandfather said. "Every day is special. Your
grandmother loves flowers. They put a smile on her face." MMT
18. Today, I re-read the suicide letter I wrote on the afternoon of
September 2nd 1996 about two minutes before my girlfriend showed up at
my doorand told me, "I'm pregnant." Suddenly I felt I had a reason to
live. Today she's my wife. We've been happily married for 14years. And
my daughter, who is almost 15 now, has two younger brothers.I re-read
my suicide letter from time to time as a reminder to be thankful – I
am thankful I got a second chance at life and love. MMT
19. Today, and every day for the last two months since I returned to
school with burn scars on my face after being hospitalized for nearlya
month for injuries I sustained in a house fire, a red rose was taped
to my locker when I got to school in the morning. I haveno clue who is
gettingto school early and leaving me these roses. I've even arrived
early myself a few times to try to figure it out, but each time the
rose was already there. MMT
20. Today was the 10 yearanniversary of my dad's passing. When I was a
kid he used to hum a short melody tome as I was going to sleep. When I
was 18, as he rested in his hospital bed fighting cancer, the roles
were reversed and I hummed the melody to him. I haven't heard that
melody since, until last night. My fiancé and I were turned on our
sides looking at each other in bed when he started humming it to me.
His mom used to hum it to him when he was a kid. MMT
21. Today, a woman who must have her voicebox removed due to cancer is
enrolled in my sign language class. Her husband, four children, two
sisters, brother, mother, father, and twelve close friends are also
enrolled in the same class so they can communicate with herafter she
loses her ability to speak aloud. MMT
22. Today, my 11-year-oldson speaks fluent sign language because his
best friend, Josh, who he grew up with from the time he was an infant,
is deaf. Seeing their genuine friendship evolve and grow over the
years MMT.
23. Today, due to Alzheimer's and dementia, my grandfather usually
can't remember who my grandmother is when he wakes up in the morning.
It bothered my grandmother a year ago when it first happened, but now
she's fully supportive of his condition. In fact, she plays a game
every day in which she tries to get my grandfather to ask herto
re-marry him before dinnertime. She hasn't failed yet. MMT
24. Today, my dad passed away from natural causes at the age of 92. I
found his body resting peacefully in the recliner in his bedroom. In
his lap, facing upright, were three framed 8×10 photographs of my mom
who passed away about 10 years ago. She was the love of his life, and
apparently the last thing he wanted to see before he passed. MMT
25. Today, I am the proud mom of a blind 17-year-old boy. Although my
son was born without his sense of sight, it hasn't stopped him from
being a straight A student, a guitarist (whose band just surpassed
25,000 downloads of their first album), and a loving boyfriend to his
long-term girlfriend, Valerie. Justtoday, his younger sister asked him
what he likes about Valerie, and he said, "Everything. She's
beautiful." MMT
26. Today, I waited on an elderly couple. The way they looked at each
other… you could see they were inlove. When the husband mentioned that
they were celebrating their anniversary, I smiled and said, "Let me
guess. You two have been together forever." They laughed and the wife
said, "Actually, no, today is our 5 year anniversary. We both outlived
our spouses and then life blessed us with one more shotat love." MMT
27. Today, my father found my little sister alive, chained up in a
barn. She was abducted near Mexico City almost 5 months ago.
Authorities stopped actively searching for her a few weeks later. My
mom and I laid her soul to rest. We had a funeral for her last month.
All of our family and friends attended the ceremony except my father.
Instead he kept looking for her. He said he "loved her too much to
give up." And she's back home now because he neverdid. MMT
28. Today, there are two senior boys at my school who have an openly
gay relationship. They have experienced verbal humiliation on a daily
basis for the last two years, yet they continue to hold each other's
hand in the hallways. Despite threats and vandalized lockers, they
showed up to prom this evening wearing matching tuxedos. Seeing them
on the dance floor, smiling from ear to ear in spite of all the haters
MMT.
29. Today, my sister and I were in a bad car accident. My sister is
Mrs. Popular at school – she knows everyone.I'm a bit of an introvert
– I hang-out with the same 2 girls all the time. My sister immediately
posted a comment on Facebookabout our accident. And while all her
friends were commenting, my 2 friends showed up independently at the
scene of the accident before the paramedicsarrived. MMT
30. Today, my fiancé returned home from his last tour of duty
overseas. Yesterday hewas just my boyfriend,or so I thought. Almosta
year ago, he mailed me a package. He told me I wasn't allowed toopen
it until he got home in two weeks. But then his tour got extended for
another 11 months. Today, when he got home, hetold me to open the
package, and just as I pulled the ring out of the box, he got down on
one knee. MMT
31. Today, my 12-year-oldson, Sean, and I stopped by the nursing home
together for the first time in several months. Usually I comealone see
my mother who's suffering from Alzheimer's. When we walked into the
lobby, the nurse said, "Hi, Sean!" and then buzzed us in. "How does she
know your name?" I asked. "Oh, I swing by here on my walk home from
school all the time to say hi to Grandma," Sean said. I had no idea.
MMT
32. Today, I found an old hand written note my mom wrote when she was
a senior in high school. On it is a list of qualities she hoped she
would someday find in a boyfriend. The list is basically an exact
description of my dad, who she didn't meet until she was 27. MMT
33. Today, I've been chemistry lab partnerswith one of the most
beautiful (and popular) girls at our school since the beginning of the
school year. And although I never would have had the courage to talk
to her otherwise, she's totally down to earth and sweet. We spend our
time in the lab chatting, laughing, and getting A's (she's smart too),
and just recently we started talking a little bit outside of class
too. Last week when I heard that she didn't have a date to our
homecoming dance, I desperately wanted toask her, but chickenedout
every time I was about to. Then this afternoon, at lunchtime, she ran
up to me and formally asked me to ask her tothe dance. So I did, and
she kissed me on the cheek and said, "Yes!" MMT
34. Today, on our 10th anniversary, she handed me a suicide note she
wrote when she was 22, on the exact day we met. Andshe said, "For all
these years I didn't want you to know how foolish and unstable I was
back when we met. But even though you didn't know, you saved me. Thank
you."MMT
35. Today, my grandpa keeps an old, candid photo on his nightstand of
my grandma and him laughing together at some party in the 1960's. My
grandma passed away from cancer in 1999 when I was 7. This evening
when I was at his house, my grandpa caught me staring at the photo. He
walked up, hugged me from behind and said, "Remember, just because
something doesn't last forever, doesn't mean it wasn'tworth your
while." MMT
36. Today, I sat down with my two daughters, ages 4 and 6, to explain
to them that we have to move out of our 4 bedroom house and into a 2
bedroom apartment for awhile until I can find another job that pays
well. My daughters looked at each other for a moment and then my
youngest daughter turned to me and asked, "Are we all moving into the
apartment together?" "Yes," I replied. "Oh, sono big deal then," she
said. MMT
37. Today, I met the prettiest woman on a plane. Assuming I wouldn't
see her again after we made our connections, I toldher how pretty I
thought she was. She gave me the most sincere smile and said,"Nobody
has said that to me in 10 years." It turns out we're both in our
mid-30's, never married, no kids, and we live about 5 miles away from
each other. We have a date set fornext Saturday after we return home.
MMT
38. Today, I'm a mother of2 and a grandmother of 4. At 17 I got
pregnant with twins. When my boyfriend and friends found out I wasn't
going to abort them, they turned a cold shoulderto me. But I pressed
forward, worked full-time while attending school, graduated high
schooland college, and met aguy in one of my classes who has loved my
children like his own for the last 50 years. MMT
39. Today, on my 29th birthday, I returned home from my 4th and final
tour of duty overseas. The little girlwho lives next door tomy parents
(who isn't so little any more - she's 22 now) met me at the airport
with a long stemmed rose, a bottle of my favorite vodka, and then
askedme out on a date. MMT
40. Today, my daughter accepted her boyfriend's marriage proposal. He
is 3 years older than her. They started dating when she was 14 and he
was 17. I never liked the age difference when they were kids. When he
turned 18 a week before she turned 15, my husband insisted they
break-up. They maintained a friendship, but went on to date other
people. Now at the ages of 24 and 27, I'venever seen two people more
in love. MMT
41. Today, after I heard that my mom stayed home from work with the
flu, I stopped by Wal-Mart on my way home from school to pick her up
some canned soup. I ran into my dad who was already in the check-out
line. He had 5 cansof soup, NyQuil, tissues, tampons, 4 romantic
comedy DVDsand a bouquet of flowers. My dad makesme smile and MMT.
42. Today, I was sitting ona hotel balcony watching 2 lovers in the
distance walk along the beach. Fromtheir body language, Icould tell
they were laughing and enjoying each other's company. As they got
closer, I realized they were my parents. My parents almost got
divorced 8 years ago. MMT
43. Today, I'm only 17, butI've been with my boyfriend, Jake, for 3
years, and last night was the first time we spent the night together.
We've never'done it,' and we didn't last night either. Instead, we
baked cookies, watched two comedies, laughed, played Xbox and fell
asleep in each other's arms. Despite the warnings from my parents,
he's been nothing but a gentleman and a best friend. MMT
44. Today, when I tapped the side of my wheelchair and told my
husband, "You're the only reason I wantto be free from this
contraption," he kissed me on my forehead and said, "Honey, I don't
even see that thing." MMT
45. Today, my grandmother and grandfather, who were both in their
early 90's and marriedfor 72 years, both diedof natural causes
approximately one hour apart from each other. MMT
46. Today, my dad came to see me for the first time in 6 months sinceI
told him I'm gay. When I opened the door he had tears in his eyes and
he immediately gave me a huge hug and said, "I'm sorry, Jason. I love
you." MMT
47. Today, my autistic little sister spoke her first word at the age
of 6 – my name. MMT
48. Today, at the age of 72, nearly 15 years after my grandfather
passed away, my grandmother remarried. And since I'm only 17, I've

evil eye - Definition of the evil eye, and ways of protecting oneself against it and treating it

What is the evil eye? I've seen this terminology been used so many
time on this webpage. Can you please explain in detail?.
Praise be to Allaah.
These follow some information and fatwas that have to do with the evil
eye. We ask Allaah tobenefit readers thereby.
The scholars of the Standing Committee were asked:
What is the definition of the evil eye? Allaah says (interpretation of
the meaning):
"And from the evil of theenvier when he envies"
[al-Falaq 113:5]
Is the hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon
him) saheeh in which it says that "One third of those who are inthe
grave are there because of the evil eye"?If a person thinks that
someone is envying him, what should the Muslim do and say? If the
personwho put the evil eye on someone washes himself, will the water
he used bring healing tohis victim? And should he drink the water or
wash himself with it?
They replied:
The Arabic word al-'ayn (translated as the evil eye) refers to when a
person harms another with his eye. It starts when the person likes a
thing, then his evil feelings affect it, by means of his repeated
looking at the object of his jealousy. Allaah commanded His Prophet
Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to seek refuge
with Him from the envier, as He said (interpretation of the meaning):
"And from the evil of theenvier when he envies"
[al-Falaq 113:5]
Everyone who puts the evil eye on another is envious, but not every
envier puts the evil eye on another. The word haasid (envier) is more
general in meaning thanthe word 'aa'in (one who puts the evil eye on
another), so seeking refuge with Allaah from the one who envies
includes seeking refuge with Him from the one who puts the evil eye on
another. The evil eye is like an arrow which comes from the soul of
the one who envies and the one who puts the evil eye on another
towards the one who is envied and on whom the evil eye is put;
sometimes it hits him and sometimes it misses. If the target is
exposed and unprotected, it will affect him, but if the target is
cautious and armed, the arrow will have no effect and may even come
back on the one who launched it.
Adapted from Zaad al-Ma'aad.
There are ahaadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) which speak of the effects of the evil eye. For exampleit is
narrated in al-Saheehayn that 'Aa'ishah (may Allaah be pleased with
her) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) used to tell me to recite ruqyah for protection against the
evil eye.
Muslim, Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi narrated from Ibn 'Abbaas (may Allaah be
pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) said: "The evil eye is real and if anything were to overtake
the divine decree, it would be the evil eye. When you are asked to
take a bath (to provide a cure) from the influence of the evil eye,
you should take a bath." This was classed as saheeh by al-Tirmidhi,
and also by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 1251.
Imam Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi (2059, wherehe classed it as saheeh)
narrated that Asma' bint 'Umays said: "O Messenger of Allaah, the
children of Ja'far have been afflicted by the evileye, shall we recite
ruqyah for them?" He said, "Yes, for if anythingwere to overtake the
divine decree it would be the evil eye." Classed as saheeh by
al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.
Abu Dawood narrated that 'Aa'ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her)
said: The person who had put the evil eyeon another would be ordered
to do wudoo', then the person who had been afflicted would wash
himself (with that water). This was classed as saheeh byal-Albaani in
Saheeh Abi Dawood.
Imam Ahmad (15550), Maalik (1811), al-Nasaa'i and Ibn Hibbaan narrated
from Sahl ibn Haneef that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah
be upon him) came out and traveled with him towards Makkah, until they
were in the mountain pass of al-Kharaar in al-Jahfah. There Sahl ibn
Haneef did ghusl, and he was a handsome white-skinned man with
beautiful skin. 'Aamir ibnRabee'ah, one of Banu 'Adiyy ibn Ka'b looked
athim whilst he was doing ghusl and said: "I have never seen such
beautiful skin as this, noteven the skin of a virgin," and Sahl fell
to the ground. They went to Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) came and said, "O Messenger of Allaah, can you
do anything for Sahl, because by Allaah he cannot raise his head." He
said, "Do you accuse anyone with regard to him?" They said, " 'Aamir
ibn Rabee'ah looked at him." So the Messenger of Allaah (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) called 'Aamir and rebuked him
strongly. He said, "Why would one of you kill hisbrother? If you see
something that you like, then pray for blessing for him." Then he said
tohim, "Wash yourself for him." So he washed his face, hands,
forearms, knees and the sides of his feet, and inside his izaar (lower
garment) in the vessel. Then that water was poured over him, and a man
poured it over his head and back from behind. He did that to him, then
Sahl got up and joined the people and there was nothing wrong withhim.
Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Mishkaat,4562.
The majority of scholars are of the view that people can indeed be
afflicted by the evil eye, because of the ahaadeeth quoted above and
others, and because of the corroborating reports and other evidence.
With regard to the hadeeth that you mention, "One third of those who
are in the grave are there because of the evil eye," we do not know
how sound it is, but the author of Naylal-Awtaar said that al-Bazzaar
narrated witha hasan isnaad from Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with
him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
said: "Most of those who die among my ummah die because of the will
and decree of Allaah, and then becauseof the evil eye."
The Muslim has to protect himself against the devils among the
eviljinn and mankind, by having strong faith in Allaah and by putting
histrust in Him and seeking refuge with Him and beseeching Him,
recitingthe prayers for protection narrated from the Prophet (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him), reciting al-Mi'wadhatayn [the
last two soorahs of the Qur'aan], Soorat al-Ikhlaas, Soorat
al-Faatihah, and Aayat al-Kursi.
Du'aa's for protection include the following:
A'oodhu bi kalimaat-illaah il-taammati min sharri ma khalaqa (I
seekrefuge in the perfect words of Allaah from theevil of that which
He has created).
A'oodhu bi kalimaat-illaah il-taammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqaabihi, wa
min sharri 'ibaadihi wa min hamazaat al-shayaateeni wa an yahduroon (I
seek refuge in the perfect words of Allaah from His wrath and
punishment, from the evil of His slaves and from the evil promptings
of the devils and from their presence).
And one may recite the words of Allaah:
"Hasbi Allaahu laa ilaaha illa huwa, 'alayhi tawakkaltu wa huwa Rabb
ul-'arsh il-'azeem
(Allaah is sufficient for me. Laa ilaaha illa Huwa (none has the right
to beworshipped but He) in Him I put my trust and He is the Lord of
the Mighty Throne)"
[al-Tawbah 9:129 – interpretation of the meaning]
And there are other similar du'aa's that are prescribed in sharee'ah.
This is what was meant by Ibn al-Qayyim in the words quoted at the
beginning of this answer.
If it is known or suspected that a person has been afflicted by
theevil eye, then the one who put the evil eye on him should be
ordered to wash himself for his brother. So a vessel of water should
be brought, and he should put his hand in it, rinse out his mouth into
the vessel. Then he should wash his face in the vessel, then put his
left hand into the vessel and wash his right knee, then put his right
hand in the vessel and wash his left knee. Then he should wash inside
his garment. Then the watershould be poured over the head of the one
on whom he put the evil eye, pouring it from behind in one go. Then he
will be healed, by Allaah's leave.
Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa'imah li'l-Buhooth al-'Ilmiyyah wa'l-Ifta, 1/186
Shaykh Muhammad al-Saalih al-'Uthaymeen was asked:
Can the evil eye afflict a person? How is it treated? Does being on
one's guard against it contradict putting one's trust in Allaah?
He replied:
Our opinion concerning the evil eye is that it is real and is proven
both by Islamic teachings and by real life experiences. Allaah says
(interpretation of the meaning):
"And verily, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with
their eyes (through hatred)"
[al-Qalam 68:51]
Ibn 'Abbaas and others said, commenting on this verse: this means,
they put the evil eye on you with their glances. The Prophet (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The evileye is real and if
anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye.
When you are asked to take a bath (to provide a cure) from the
influence of the evil eye, you should take a bath." Narrated by
Muslim. Al-Nasaa'i and Ibn Maajah narrated that 'Aamir ibn Rabee'ah
passed by Sahl ibn Haneef when he was bathing… and he quotedthe
hadeeth.
Reality confirms that andit cannot be denied.
In the event that you areafflicted by the evil eye, you should use the
treatments recommended in sharee'ah, which are:
1 – Reciting ruqyah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) said, "There isno ruqyah except in the case of the evil eye
or fever." al-Tirmidhi, 2057;Abu Dawood, 3884. Jibreel used to do
ruqyah for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and
say, "Bismillaahi arqeekamin kulli shay'in yu'dheeka, min sharri kulli
nafsin aw 'aynin haasid Allaahu yashfeek, bismillaahi arqeek (In the
name of Allaah I perform ruqyah for you, from everything that is
harming you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye may Allaah
heal you, in the name of Allaah I perform ruqyah for you)."
2 – Asking the person who has put the evil eye on another to wash, as
the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) commanded
'Aamir ibn Rabee'ah to do in the hadeeth quoted above. Then the water
should be poured over the one who has been afflicted.
With regard to taking his waste, such as his urine and stools, there
isno basis for doing so; the same applies to taking any of his
belongings. Rather whatis narrated is that which is mentioned above,
washing his limbs and washing inside his garment, or likewise washing
inside his headgear and garments. And Allaah knows best.
There is nothing wrong with taking precautions against the evil eye
before it happens, and this does not contradict the idea of tawakkul
(putting one's trust in Allaah). In fact this is tawakkul, because
tawakkul means putting one's trust in Allaah whilst also implementing
the meansthat have been permitted or enjoined. The Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to seek refuge for al-Hasan and
al-Husayn and say: U'eedhukuma bi kalimaat Allaah al-taammati min
kulli shaytaanin wa haammah wa min kulli 'aynin laammah (I seek refuge
for you both in the perfect words of Allaah, from every devil and
every poisonous reptile, and from every evil eye).'" Al-Tirmidhi,
2060; Abu Dawood, 4737. And he would say, "Thus Ibraaheem used toseek
refuge with Allaah for Ishaaq and Ismaa'eel, peace be upon them both."
Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3371.
