*- WHAT ISLAM SAYS -* - Islam is a religion of Mercy, Peace and Blessing. Its teachings emphasize kind hear tedness, help, sympathy, forgiveness, sacrifice, love and care.Qur’an, the Shari’ah and the life of our beloved Prophet (SAW) mirrors this attribute, and it should be reflected in the conduct of a Momin.Islam appreciates those who are kind to their fellow being, and dislikes them who are hard hearted, curt, and hypocrite.Recall that historical moment, when Prophet (SAW) entered Makkah as a conqueror. There was before him a multitude of surrendered enemies, former oppressors and persecutors, who had evicted the Muslims from their homes, deprived them of their belongings, humiliated and intimidated Prophet (SAW) hatched schemes for his murder and tortured and killed his companions. But Prophet (SAW) displayed his usual magnanimity, generosity, and kind heartedness by forgiving all of them and declaring general amnesty...Subhanallah. May Allah help us tailor our life according to the teachings of Islam. (Aameen)./-

Hajj - Articles|- Zamzam Water Facts: What is Zamzam?

Zamzam is the name of the well that provides thewater to billions of
people, have thirstily drunk from throughout history, especially
during the Hajj pilgrimage.
Zamzam is linked to someof the most important personalities in world
history: the Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail (peace be upon them) and
Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), as well as
Ismail's mother Hajira (may Allah be pleased with her).
According to Islamic tradition, Prophet Ibrahim (a.s.) rebuilt the
Bait-ul-Allah (House of Allah) at the site of the well, a building
which had been originally constructed by Prophet Adam (a.s.), and
today is called the Kaaba ( Qiblah ), a building towards which all
Muslims aroundthe world face in prayer, five times each day. Zamzam
well is located approximately 20 meters east of the Kaaba. Zamzam well
is located inMakkah, which is the heart of the Hajj pilgrimage. Zamzam
well is 35 meters deep and topped by an elegant dome. The miracle
water of Zamzam is still flowinguntil today. Subhanallah!
"The difference between Zamzam water and other (city water) was in the
quantity of calcium and magnesium salts. The content of these was
slightly higher in Zamzamwater. This may be why this water refreshes
tiredHajis, but more significantly, the water contains fluorides that
have an effective germicidal action."
"This well has never dried up. On the contrary,it has always fulfilled
the demand for water. It has always maintained the same salt
composition and taste ever since it came into existence. Its
potability has always been universally recognized as pilgrims from all
over the world visit the Kaabah every year for Hajj and Umrah, but
have never complained about it. Instead, they have alwaysenjoyed the
water that refreshes them. Water tastes different at different places.
Zamzam water's appeal has always been universal. This water has never
been chemically treated or chlorinated as is the case with water
pumped into the cities. Biological growth and vegetation usually take
place in mostwells. This makes the water unpalatable owingto the
growth of algae causing taste and odor problems."
How the Zamzam came into being?
All traditions agree that Allah (SWT) created the well to provide
Hajira, the wife of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and her baby
Prophet Ismail (peace be upon him) with water in the hot, dry valley
they were in, around the year 2000 BC.
In her desperate search for water, Hajira ran seven times back and
forth in the scorching heat between the two hills of Safa and Marwa to
provide for her baby who was dying of thirst. Today, this same act is
a necessary rite of Hajj pilgrimage all Muslims, mothers and fathers,
must complete.
Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) settled his family there as part
of Allah's mission for him. The first thing Hajira had to do then was
to look for water in the area. Shewas searching for it while watching
at her son and would run whenever she could not see Ismail. Allah
(SWT) saw her effort and miraculously blessed the spot with a water
spring, at the feet of Prophet Ismail (as).
Zamzam before Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)
The appearance of the Zamzam began the settlement of the Makkanvalley,
where the descendants of Prophet Ismail populated the area.
But as time passed, Prophet Ibrahim and Ismail's monotheistic message,
which once dominated the region, began taking a backseat to pagan,
polytheistic beliefs.
Nonetheless, the well of Zamzam retained its importance in later
generations. The grandfather of the Prophet, Abdul Muttalib, was
honored with the responsibility of taking care of the well and the
pilgrims to Makkah.
Zamzam water: the power drink
One of the miracles of Zamzam water is its ability to satisfy both
thirst and hunger. One of the Companions of the Prophet said that
before Islam, the water was called "Shabbaa'ah" or satisfying. It was
filling and helped them nourishtheir families.
After Islam, this powerful ability to quench thirst and fill stomachs
remained. Prophet Muhammad said: "The best water on the face of the
earth is the water of Zamzam; it is a kind of food and a healing from
sickness."
According to the Muslim collection of Hadith, Abu Dharr al-Ghifari , a
Companion (Sahabi) , noted that when he first arrived in Makkah
duringthe early days of Islam, not only did he satisfy hishunger and
thirst but he survived only on Zamzamwater for a whole month.
More recently, in the last few decades, scientists have collected
samples ofZamzam water and they have found certain peculiarities that
make the water healthier, like a higher level of calcium.
Zamzam water: a cure forsickness
Apart from its ability to serve as satisfying food and drink, Zamzam
water's health benefits are also commended. Prophet Muhammad (peace
and blessings be upon him and his family) said it was a healing from
sickness. This is whypilgrims to Makkah to this day collect it in
bottles to bring for relatives and friends backhome who are ill.
Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used
to carry Zamzam water in pitchers and water skins back to Madinah. He
used to sprinkle it over the sick and make them drink it.
Wahab Ibn Munabbah, who was from the second generation of Muslims,
said 'I swear by Him in whose possession my life is, Allah Ta'ala
willrelieve the person of all illnesses who drinks Zamzam to his fill
and will also grant him good health.'
Zamzam water and Hajj pilgrimage
During Hajj and Umra, pilgrims are recommended to drink Zamzam water
to their fill to quench their thirst. They also continue the tradition
of bringing it back for family and friends.
For example, despite tight US laws forbidding the import of foreign
liquids and fruits, there isan exception made for pilgrims returning
from Makkah, who bring water of the Zamzam home for loved ones.
A Halo of Koranic Steam
We have recently realizedthe value of the use of amulets. It has been
scientifically proven that water is affected by whatis recited over
it. Japanese researcher Masaru Emoto has had a unique experience. He
said that he had read in abook that each snowflake falling from the
sky is unique. He said that his scientific instinctstold him that this
was nottrue. The geometric shape of the snowflake isdetermined by its
chemical composition. The composition of wateris well known - two
hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. So how come snowflakes that
fallfrom the sky are differentfrom one another? He said: "I was
determined to prove that this theory was false." He built a
laboratory, consisting of a deep freezer with a regulator, because no
liquid, subjected to sudden freezing, can assume a geometric shape.
The freezing must be slow, so the atoms have the chance to crystallize
into the shape decreed by Allah (SWT). There was a deep freezerwith a
regulator, a cold room at the temperature of -7°C, and several
microscopes equipped with cameras, so he could photograph the
snowflake before it melted. The scientists working in this room wore
warm clothing. He said: "I took samples from two faucets in the
laboratory, I froze them, and each sample gave mea different
snowflake. The samples came from two different wells, two different
rivers, from twodifferent lakes. I almost went crazy and thought this
was witchcraft." A Saudi student at the University of Tokyo happened
to meet him, and asked him what was wrong. Masaru told him his
problem. The student said to him: "We have blessed water, called
Zamzam water. I will giveyou a sample of this water so you can
experiment on it. Zamzam water is not affected by witchcraft or Jinns,
so using it can prove or disprove the whole theory." Emoto took a
sample of Zamzamwater, and said: "I couldn't crystallize it, even by
diluting the water by 1,000." In other words, he turned one cubic
centimeter into oneliter.
He said that when he diluted the water by 1,000 and froze it, he got a
uniquely-shaped crystal. Two crystals wereformed, one on top of the
other, but they assumed a unique form. When he asked his Muslim
colleague why there were two crystals, he told him it was because
"Zamzam" is composed of two words:"Zam" and "Zam."
Masaru Emoto said: "My Muslim colleague offered to recite Koranic
verses over the water. He brought a tape-recorder and played some
Koranic verses, and we got the most perfectly-shaped crystals. Then he
played the 99 names of Allah (SWT) . Each name produced a
uniquely-shaped crystal. Then he began cursing the water. We said:
Water, you are impure. You are not suited for consumption. The water,
in this case, did not freeze, or produced an extremely ugly crystal."
When they uttered bad words like"war" or "fighting," the water did not
freeze, or else produced an ugly shape. When the man completed these
experiments, which lasted 15 years, he published a five-volume book
called Messages from Water. He wrote: "I have proven that water, that
peculiar liquid, is capable of thinking, fathoming, feeling, getting
excited, and expressing itself."
Following was written bya Japanese Scientist Masaru Emoto:
The quality / purity of Zamzam water has, will not be find any where
else in the water on this earth.
He used the technology named NANO, and researched a lot on Zamzam
water. And found out that if one drop of Zamzam water mix in 1000
drops of regular water, regular water will get the same quality like
Zamzam water.
He also found that a mineral in one drop of Zamzam water has its own
importance that willnot be find any other water on this earth.
He also found in some tests that the quality or ingredients of Zamzam
water can not be changed, why, science does not know the reason.
Even he re-cycled the Zamzam water, but no change it was still pure.
This scientist also found out that, the Muslims say BISMILLAH before
eating/drinking. He says that after saying BISMILLAH on regular water,
there are some strange changes happened in the quality of regular
water. That make it best water.
He also found out that if some one recites the Quran on regular water,
it gets the ability for the treatment of different diseases.
Masaru Emoto is a Japanese author known for his claim that if human
speech or thoughts are directed at water droplets before they are
frozen, images of the resulting water crystals will be beautiful or
ugly depending upon whether the words or thoughts were positive or
negative. Emoto claimsthis can be achieved through prayer, music or by
attaching written words to a container of water.
Wait a minute - Aren't you made up of Water?
Yes! 72% of your body is made up of water. Imagine how your
wordsaffect your own body. When you say, "I'm a failure," or "I'm
hopeless," or "I won't getwell," imagine how thesewords weaken your
health.
Make a choice to say the best words out there. Sayoften, "I'm
wonderful," and "I'm beautiful".

Islamic Article |- BAYTULLAH THE HOUSE OF ALLAH

In the province of Hijaz inthe western part of SaudiArabia, not far
from the Red Sea, there lies the town of Makkah. In the center of this
town there is a small square buildingmade of stones. The small, cubed
building may not rival skyscrapers in height or mansions in width, but
its impact on history and human beings is unmatched. Since time
immemorial world travelers have known this town and thisstone built
house. This is Baytullah, the House of Allah. Its sanctity and
antiquity is older than history itself.
The Baytullah\Kaaba is the building towards which Muslims face five
times a day, everyday, in prayer. This has been the case since the
time of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him & his
family) over 1400 years ago. Literally, Kaaba in Arabic means a high
place with respect and prestige. The word Kaaba may also be derivative
of a word meaning a cube.
The other names of the Kaaba, are Bait ul Ateeq - which means,
according to one meaning, the earliest and ancient. According to the
second meaning, it means independent and liberating. Both meanings
could be taken. Bait ul Haram - the honorable house. Scholars and
historians say that the Kaaba has been reconstructed between five to
12 times.
Tradition goes that the Kaaba was ordained by Allah to be built in the
shape of the House in Heaven called Baitul Ma'amoor. Allah in his
infinite Mercy ordained asimilar place on earth and Prophet Adam
(p.b.u.h.) was the first to build this place. The Bible, in the
chapter of Genesis describes its building when God ordained Abraham
(p.b.u.h.) to erect a Shrine for worship when Abraham (p.b.u.h.) was
ordered to go to the southern desert with his wife Hager (p.b.u.h.)
and infant son Ishmael (p.b.u.h.). The Old Testament describes this
building as the Shrine of God at several places, butthe one built at
Ma'amoor is very much similar to the one at Makkah. There is no doubt
that it was referring to the stone built house at Makkah.
Holy Qur'an brought this story into the full light of history. Say:
"Allah spoken the Truth: follow the religion of Abraham, the sane in
faith; he was not of the Pagans." The first House (of worship)
appointed for men was that at Bakka: Full of blessing and of guidance
for all kinds of beings. (Holy Qur'an 3:95-96)
From the above verses Holy Qur'an firmly establishes the fact that
Abraham (p.b.u.h.) was the real founder of the Holy Shrine.
When Prophet Abraham (p.b.u.h.) built the Holy Shrine in Makka , his
prayers were that this place should remain a center of worship for all
good and pious people; that Allah should keep hisfamily the custodians
of the Holy place. Ever since,Ishmael (p.b.u.h.) the son of Abraham
(p.b.u.h.) who helped his father to build this place and his
descendants remained the custodians of the Holy Shrine. History tells
us that centuries passed and the guardianship of the Kaaba remained in
the family of Ishmael (p.b.u.h.) until the name of Abde Manaf came
into the limelight. He inherited this service andmade it much more
prominent. His son Hashim took this leadership and extended it to many
other towns ofHijaz so much so that many pilgrims flocked annually to
this place andenjoyed Hashim's hospitality. A feast was given in honor
of the pilgrims, the family of Hashim served food and water to all
guests. This prominence created jealousies and his brother Abdusham's
adopted son Omayya tried to create trouble. There was a dispute in
which Omayya failed and left Makka to settle downin the Northern
provincesof Syria (Sham). After Hashim his brother Muttalib and after
him Hashim's son Shyba who became known as Abdul Muttalib assumed the
leadership of the family. He organized feasts and supplies of water to
the pilgrims during the annual festival of pilgrimage to the Holy
Shrine.
Prophet Abraham (p.b.u.h.) built this House for devout worship to the
only God. But within his lifetime people disobeyed his orders and
began to put idols inside the Kaaba. Abraham (p.b.u.h.) had to clean
theHouse of these idols and of idle worshippers. He told the people
that this was a symbolic house of God. God does not live there; He is
everywhere. People did not understand this logic andafter the death of
Abraham (p.b.u.h.), the people, out of reverence, filled the place
with idols again. They thronged to this place annually and worshipped
their personal gods, It was over Four Thousand yearslater that the
last of the line of prophets Muhammad Ibne Abdullah (p.b.u.h.) entered
Makka triumphantly, went inside the Kaaba and, with the help of his
cousin and son-in-law Ali Ibne Abi Talib (p.b.u.h.) destroyed all the
idols of Kaaba with their own hands. At one stage of this destruction
of idols, the tallest of the idol Hubbol was brought down after Ali
had to stand on the shoulders ofthe Prophet to carry out God's orders.
The Prophetof Islam (p.b.u.h.) was reciting the verse from the Holy
Qur'an "Truth hath come and falsehoodhath vanished" . This was done in
the 8th year of Hijra, January 630 AD after the bloodless victory at
Makka by the Prophet of Islam (p.b.u.h.).
Historically when Abraham (p.b.u.h.) was ordered by Allah to build the
Shrine for worship, he uncovered the original foundations of the Kaaba
built by Adam (p.b.u.h.). Abraham (p.b.u.h.) with the help ofhis son
Ishmael (p.b.u.h.) erected the new shrine on the same
foundations.Originally it contained only four walls without a roof.
Centuries later during the time of Khusayi who was the leader of the
Tribe of Quraish in Makka a taller building was completed with a roof
and a quadrangle wall around it to give it the shape of asanctuary and
doors all around the sanctuary walls. People entered through these
doors to come to the Kaaba for worship. It is now about 60 feet high,
60 feet widefrom east to west and 60 feet from north to south. A door
is fixed about 7 feet above ground level facing Northeast. A Black
stone (Hajar al-Aswad) was fixed into its eastern corner. In front of
the building was Maqam-e-Ibrahim, the arch shapegate known as that of
Banu Shayba and the Zamzam Well. Just outside are the Hills called
Safa and Merwa and the distance between the hills is about 500 yards.
These days both of the hills are enclosed into the sanctuary walls
with a roof over it.
The whole building is built of the layers of gray blue stone from the
hills surrounding Makka. The four corners roughly facethe four points
of the compass. At the East is theRukn-e-Aswad (The Black stone), at
the North is theRukn-e-Iraqi, at the west Rukn-e-Shami and at the
south Rukn-e-Yamani. The four walls are covered with a curtain
(Kiswa). The kiswa is usually of black brocade with the Shahada
outlined in the weave of the fabric. About 2/3 rd of the way up runs a
gold embroidered band covered with Qur'anic text.
In the Eastern corner about 5 feet above ground the Hajar al-Aswad
(The Black stone) is fixed into the wall. Its real nature is difficult
to determine, its visible shape is worn smooth by hand touchingand
kissing. Its diameter is around 12 inches. Opposite the Northwest wall
but not connected with it, is a semi circular wall of white marble. It
is3 feet high and about 5 feet thick. This semi circular space enjoys
an especial consideration and pilgrims wait in queue to find a place
to pray there. The graves of Ishmael (p.b.u.h.) and his mother Hager
(p.b.u.h.) are within this semi circular wall (Hateem). Between the
archway and the facade (N.E.) is a little building with a small dome,
the Maqam-e-Ibrahim. Inside it is kept a stone bearing the prints of
two human feet.Prophet Abraham (p.b.u.h.) is said to have stood on
this stone whenbuilding the Kaaba and marks of his feet are
miraculously preserved. On the outskirts of the building to the
Northeastis the 'Zamzam Well' (this is now put under ground).
History of the building of the Kaaba
And when We made the House a pilgrimage for men and a (place of)
security, and: Appoint foryourselves a place of prayer on the
standing-place of Abraham. And We enjoined Abraham and Ishmael saying:
Purify My House for thosewho visit (it) and those who abide (in it)
for devotion and those who bow down (and) those who prostrate
themselves. And when Abraham said: My Lord, make it a secure town and
provide its people with fruits, such of them as believe in Allah and
the last day. He said: And whoever disbelieves, I will grant him
enjoymentfor a short while, then I will drive him to the chastisement
of the fire; and it is an evil destination. And when Abraham and
Ishmael raised the foundations ofthe House: Our Lord! Accept from us;
surely Thou art the Hearing, the Knowing: Our Lord! And make us both
submissive to Thee and (raise) from our offspring a nation submitting
to Thee, and show us our ways of devotion and turn to us (mercifully),
surely Thou art the Oft-returning (to mercy), the Merciful. Our Lord!
And raise up in them a Messenger from among them who shall recite to
them Thy communications and teach them the Book and the wisdom, and
purify them; surely Thou art the Mighty, the Wise. (Holy Qur'an
2:125-129)
Holy Qur'an in the above verses described it clearlythat Allah had
ordained his servant Abraham (p.b.u.h.) to build the Shrine there for
worship of One God. During Khusayi's time it was rebuilt and
fortified. During the early years of Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.)
before he announced his ministry, floods damaged the Kaaba and it was
rebuilt again. When the Black stone was to be put in its place the
Makkans quarreled among themselves as to who should have the honor
toplace it there. Abu Omayyah, Makkah's oldest man, proposed that the
first man to enter the gate of the mosque the following morning would
decide the matter. That man wasthe Prophet (p.b.u.h.). The Makkans
were ecstatic. "This is the trustworthy one (Al-Ameen)," they shouted
in a chorus. "Thisis Muhammad". He came to them and they asked him to
decide on the matter. He (p.b.u.h.) agreed. Prophet Muhammad
(p.b.u.h.) proposed a solution that all agreed to putting the Black
Stone on a cloak, the elders of each of the clans held on to one
edgeof the cloak and carried the stone to its place. TheProphet
(p.b.u.h.) himselfthen picked up the stone and placed it on the wall
of the Kaaba. It has been fixed there ever since.
After the martyrdom of the family of the Prophet at Karbala in 61
Hijri (681AD), the Omayyad Caliph Yazid Ibne Moawiya did not stop
there in the pursuit of his destruction. He sent a large contingent
under the command of Haseen IbneNamir to Madina to destroy the Mosque
of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.). They did not stop there but proceeded to
Makka and demolished the four walls of the Kaaba and killed thousands
of Muslims who protested. Yazid died and Ibne Namir returned to
Damascus, Abdullah Ibne Zubayr and his associatesrebuilt the Kaaba.
Umawiforces came back to Makka and killed Abdullah Ibne Zubayr, hung
his body on the gates of the Kaaba for three months for all to see the
Umawi power. But eventually this arrogance of power brought its own
consequences and Mukhtar became the ruler in Iraq. Under his guidance
the Kaaba was refurbished and pilgrims began to arrive in safety to
perform Hajj.
The Kaaba successfully withstood the Cremation invasion of 317/929,
only the Blackstone was carried away which was returned some twenty
years later. In the year 1981 the Wahabis brought tanks inside the
Kaaba to crush the kahtani revolution against the Saudi regime and
almost demolished the South Eastern Wall. This was later restored with
the help of the Makkan people.
Every man living in Makka in the 6 th and 7 th century must out of
necessity have had some relationship with the Kaaba. On the Muhammad
(p.b.u.h.), theProphet of Islam, the Qur'an is silent during the
Makkans period in this respect. All that is known is that the Muslim
community of the period turned towards Jerusalem in prayers.
Subsequently about a year and a half after the Hijra the Muslims were
ordered during prayers, which were lead, by the Prophet of Islam
himself to turn towards Makka. The particular mosque in Madina where
this happened is called Masjid-e-Qiblatain, meaning the mosque with
two Qiblas. The Qur'an tells the Muslims, "Indeed We see the turning
of your face to heaven, so We shall surely turn you to a qiblah which
you shall like; turn then your face towards the Sacred Mosque, and
wherever you are, turn your face towards it." (Holy Qur'an 2:144)
At this same period the Qur'an began to lay stresson the religion of
Abraham (p.b.u.h.), presenting Islam as a return to the purity of the
religion of Abraham (p.b.u.h.) Which, obscured by Judaism and
Christianity, shone forth in its original brightness in the Holy
Qur'an. The pilgrimage to the Kaaba and ritual progressions around the
building were continued, but were now for the glorification of One
God. The Abrahamic vision of the Kaaba created a means of discerning
an orthodox origin buried in the midst of pagan malpractices to which
thefirst Muslims pointed the way.
Every year after the Hajj ceremony the place is closed for one month
andon the day of Ashura the Kaaba is washed from inside by the Water
from the well of Zamzam and anew Kiswa is brought to cover the Kaaba
for the next year.
This is the story of the Kaaba and the persons who protected it and
remained its custodians and protectors from the satanic and evil
forces throughout history. Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) andthe people of his

431 hadith found in ' The Book of Faith (Kitab Al-Iman) ' of Sahih Muslim.
0001
It is narrated on the authority of Yahya b. Ya'mur that the first man
who discussed about Qadr (Divine Decree) in Basra was Ma'bad
al-Juhani. I along with Humaid b. 'Abdur-Rahman Himyari set out for
prilgrimage or for 'Umrah and said: Should it so happen that we come
into contact with one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah
(peace be upon him) we shall ask him a bout whatis talked about Taqdir
(Division Decree). Accidentally we came across Abdullah ibn Umaribn
al-Khattab, while he was entering the mosque. My companion and I
surrounded him. One of us (stood) on his right and the other stoodon
his left. I expected that my companion would authorize me to speak. I
therefore said: Abu Abdur Rahman! there have appeared some people in
our land who recite the Holy Qur'an and pursue knowledge. And then
after talking about their affairs, added: They (suchpeople) claim that
there is no such thing as DivineDecree and events are not predestined.
He (Abdullah ibn Umar) said:When you happen to meet such people tell
them that I have nothing to do with them and theyhave nothing to do
with me. And verily they are inno way responsible for my (belief).
Abdullah ibn Umar swore by Him (the Lord) (and said): If any one of
them (who does not believe in the Divine Decree) had with him gold
equal to the bulk of (the mountain) Uhud andthen, it (in the way of
Allah), Allah would not accept it unless he affirmed his faith in
Divine Decree. He further said: My father, Umar ibn al-Khattab, told
me: One day we were sitting in the company of Allah's Apostle (peace
be upon him) when there appeared before us a man dressed in pure white
clothes, his hair extraordinarily black. There were no signs of travel
on him. None amongst us recognized him. At last he sat with the
Apostle (peace be upon him) He knelt before him placed his palms on
his thighs and said: Muhammad, inform me about al-Islam. The Messenger
of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Al-Islam implies thatyou testify
that there is no god but Allah and thatMuhammad is the messenger of
Allah, and you establish prayer, pay Zakat, observe the fast
ofRamadan, and perform pilgrimage to the (House)if you are solvent
enough(to bear the expense of) the journey. He (the inquirer) said:
You have told the truth. He (Umar ibn al-Khattab) said: It amazed us
that he wouldput the question and then he would himself verify the
truth. He (the inquirer) said: Inform meabout Iman (faith). He (the
Holy Prophet) replied: That you affirm your faith in Allah, in His
angels, in His Books, in His Apostles, in the Day ofJudgment, and you
affirm your faith in the Divine Decree about good and evil. He (the
inquirer) said: You have told the truth. He (the inquirer) again said:
Inform me about al-Ihsan(performance of good deeds). He (the Holy
Prophet) said: That you worship Allah as if you are seeing Him, for
though you don't see Him, He, verily, sees you. He (the enquirer)
again said: Inform me about the hour (of the Doom). He (the Holy
Prophet) remarked: One who is asked knows no more than the one who is
inquiring (about it). He (the inquirer) said: Tell me some of its
indications. He (the Holy Prophet) said: That the slave-girl will give
birth to her mistress and master, that you will find barefooted,
destitute goat-herds vying with one another in the construction of
magnificent buildings. He(the narrator, Umar ibn al-Khattab) said:
Then he (the inquirer) went on his way but I stayed with him (the Holy
Prophet) for a long while. He then, said to me: Umar, do you know who
this inquirer was? I replied: Allah and His Apostle knows best. He
(the Holy Prophet) remarked: He was Gabriel(the angel). He came to you
in order to instruct you in matters of religion.
0002
It is narrated on the authority of Yahya b. Ya'mur that when
Ma'baddiscussed the problem pertaining to Divine Decree, we refuted
that. He (the narrator) said: I and Humaid b. Abdur-Rahman Himyari
argued. And they carried on the conversation about the purport of the
hadith related by Kahmas and itschain of transmission too, and there
is some variation of words.
0003
It is narrated on the authority of Yahya b. Ya'mur and Humaid b.
'Abdur-Rahman that they said: We met Abdullah b. 'Umar and we
discussed about the Divine Decree, and what they talked about it and
he narrated the hadith that has been transmitted by 'Umar (may Allah
be pleased with him) from the Apostle (may peace be upon him). There
is a slight variation in that.
0004
Abu Huraira reported: One day the Messenger ofAllah (may peace be upon
him) appeared before the public that a man came to him and said:
Prophet of Allah, (tell me) what is Iman. Upon this he (the Holy
Prophet) replied: That you affirm your faith in Allah, His angels, His
Books, His meeting, His Messengers and that you affirm your faith in
the Resurrection hereafter. He (again) said: Messenger of Allah, (tell
me) what does al-Islam signify. He (the Holy Prophet) replied:
Al-Islamsignifies that you worship Allah and do notassociate anything
with Him and you establish obligatory prayer and you pay the
obligatory poor-rate (Zakat) and you observe the fast of Ramadan. He
(the inquirer) again said: Messenger of Allah, what does al-Ihsan
imply? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you worship Allah as if you
are seeing Him, and in case you fail to see Him, then observe prayer
(with this idea in your mind) that (at least) He is seeing you. He
(the inquirer ) again said: Messenger of Allah, whenwould there be the
hour (of Doom)? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: The onewho is asked
about it is no better informed than the inquirer. I, however, narrate
some of its signs (and these are): when the slave-girl will give birth
to he master, when the naked, barefooted would become the chiefs of
the people - these are some of the signs of (Doom). (Moreover) when
the shepherds of the black (camels) would exult themselves in
buildings, this is one of the signs of (Doom). (Doom) is one of the
five (happenings wrapped in the unseen) which no one knows but Allah.
Then he (the Messenger of Allah) recited (the verse):" Verily Allah!
with Him alone is the knowledge of the hour and He it is Who sends
(down the rain) and knows that which is in the wombs and no person
knows whatsoever he shall earn tomorrow, and a person knows not in
whatsoeverland he shall die. Verily Allah is Knowing, Aware. He (the
narrator, Abu Huraira) said: Then the person turned back and went
away. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said:Bring that
man back to me. They (the Companions of the Holy Prophet present
there) went to bring him back, but they saw nothing there. Upon this
the Messenger of Allah remarked: he was Gabriel, who came to teach the
people their religion.
0005
This hadith is narrated to us on the authority of Muhammad b.
'Abdullah b. Numair, on the authority of Muhammad b. Bishr, on the
authority of Abd Hayyan al-Taymi with the exception that in this
narration (instead of the words (Iza Waladat al'amah rabbaha), the
words are (Iza Waladat al'amah Ba'laha), i, e, when slave-girl gives
birth to her master.
0006
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of
Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Ask me (about matters pertaining
to religion), but they (the Companions of the Holy Prophet) were too
much overawed out of profound respect for himto ask him (anything). In
the meanwhile a man came there, and sat near his knees and said:
Messenger of Allah, what al-lslam is? -to which he (the Holy Prophet)
replied: You must not associate anything with Allah, and establish
prayer, pay the poor-rate(Zakat) and observe (the fasts) of Ramadan.
He said: You (have) told the truth. He (again) said: Messenger of
Allah, what al-Iman (the faith) is? He (the Holy Prophet) said: That
you affirm your faith in Allah, His angels, His Books, His meeting,
His Apostles, and that youbelieve in Resurrection and that you believe
in Qadr (Divine Decree) in all its entirety, He (the inquirer) said:
You (have)told the truth. He (again) said: Messenger of Allah, what
al-Ihsan is? Upon this he (the Holy Prophet)said: (Al-Ihsan implies)
that you fear Allah as if you are seeing Him, and though you see Him
not, verily He is seeing you. He (the inquirer) said: You (have) told
the truth. He (the inquirer) said: When there would be thehour (of
Doom)? (Upon this) he (the HolyProphet said: The one who is being
asked about it is no better informed than the inquirer himself. I,
however, narrate some of its signs (and these are): when you see a
slave (woman) giving birth to her master - that is one of the signs of
(Doom) ; when you see barefooted, naked, deaf and dumb (ignorant and
foolish persons) as the rulers of the earth - that is one of the signs
of the Doom. And when you seethe shepherds of black camels exult in
buildings - that is one of the signs of Doom. The (Doom) is one of the
five things (wrapped) in the unseen. No one knows them except Allah.
Then (the Holy Prophet) recited (the folowing verse):" Verily Allah!
with Him alone is the knowledge of the hour and He it is Who sends
down the rainand knows that which is in the wombs and no person knows
whatsoever he shall earn on morrow and a person knows not in
whatsoeverland he shall die. Verily Allah is Knowing, Aware. He (the
narrator, Abu Huraira) said: Then the person stood up an (made his
way). The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said:Bring him
back to me. He was searched for, but they (the Companions of the Holy
Prophet) could not find him. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon
him) thereupon said: He was Gabriel and he wanted toteach you (things
pertaining to religion) when you did not ask (them yourselves).
0007
It is reported on the authority of Talha b. 'Ubaidullah that a
personwith dishevelled hair, one of the people of Nejd, came to the
Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him). We heard the humming of
his voice but could not fully discern what he hadbeen saying, till he
came nigh to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him). It was
then (disclosed to us) that he was asking questions pertaining to
Islam. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said:Five
prayers during the day and the night. (Upon this he said: Am I obliged
to say any other (prayer) besides these? He (the Holy Prophet, ) said:
No, but whatever you observe voluntarily, out of your own free will,
and the fasts of Ramadan. The inquirer said: Am I obliged to do
anything else besides this? He (the Holy Prophet) said: No, but
whatever you do out of your own free will. And the Messenger of Allah
told him about the Zakat (poor-rate). The inquirer said: Am I obliged
to pay anything else besides this? He (the Holy Prophet) said: No, but
whatever you pay voluntarily out of your own free will. The man turned
back and was saying: I would neither make any addition to this, nor
will decrease anything out of it. The Prophet remarked: He is
successful, if he is true to what he affirms.
0008
Another hadith, the like of which has been narrated by Malik (b. Anas)
(and mentioned above) is also reported by Talha b. 'Ubaidullah, with
the only variation that the Holy Prophet remarked: By his father, he
shall succeed if he were true (to what he professed), or: By his
father, he would enter heaven if he were true (to what he professed).
0009
It is reported on the authority of Anas b. Malikthat he said: We were
forbidden that we shouldask anything (without the genuine need) from
the Holy Prophet. It, therefore, pleased us that an intelligent
personfrom the dwellers of the desert should come and asked him (the
Holy Prophet) and we should listen to it. A man from the dwellers of
the desertcame (to the Holy Prophet) and said: Muhammad, your
messenger came to us and told us your assertion that verily Allahhad
sent you (as a prophet). He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: He told the
truth. He (the bedouin) said: Who created the heaven? He (the Holy
Prophet) replied: Allah. He (the bedouin again) said: Who created the
earth? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Allah. He (the bedouin again)
said: Who raised these mountains and who created in them whatever is
created there? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Allah. Upon this he (the
bedouin) remarked: By Him Who created the heaven and created the earth
and raised mountains thereupon, has Allah (in fact) sent you? He (the
Holy Prophet) said: Yes. He (the bedouin) said: Your messenger also
told us that five prayers (had been made) obligatory for us during the
day andthe night. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: He told you the
truth. He (the bedouin) said: By Him Who sent you, is it Allah Who
ordered you about this (i. e. prayers)? He (the Holy Prophet) said:
Yes. He (the bedouin) said: Your messenger told us that Zakat had been
made obligatory in our riches. He (the Holy Prophet) said. He has told
the truth. He (the bedouin) said: By Him Who sent you (as a prophet),
is it Allah Who ordered you about it (Zakat)? He (the Holy Prophet)
said: Yes. He (the bedouin) said: Your messenger told us that it had
been made obligatory for us to fast every year during the month of
Ramadan. He (the Holy Prophet) said: He has told the truth. He (the
bedouin) said: By Him Who sent you (as a prophet), is it Allah Who
ordered you about it (thefasts of Ramadan)? He (the Holy Prophet)
said: Yes. He (the bedouin) said: Your messenger alsotold us that
pilgrimage (Hajj) to the House (of Ka'bah) had been made obligatory
for him who isable to undertake the journey to it. He (the
HolyProphet) said: Yes. The narrator said that he (thebedouin) set off
(at the conclusion of this answer, but at the time of his departure)
remarked: 'By Him Who sent you with the Truth, Iwould neither make any
addition to them nor would I diminish anything out of them. Upon this
the Holy Prophet remarked: If he were true (to what he said) he must
enter Paradise.
0010
It is narrated on the authority of Thabit that Anas said: We were
forbidden in the Holy Qur'an that we should ask about anything from
the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him)and then Anas reported
the hadith in similar words.
