In the Noble Quran we often find verses which describe the earth's
atmosphere as a protectivecovering for us humans:
And We have made the heavens as a canopy wellguarded : yet do they
turn away from the Signs whichthese things (point to)! (21:32)
It is Allah Who has made for you the earth as a resting place, and the
sky as a canopy , and has given you shape- and made your shapes
beautiful,- and has provided for you Sustenance, of things pure and
good;- such is Allah your Lord. So Glory to Allah,the Lord of the
Worlds! (40:64)
So the Quran makes it quite clear that the earth's sky (atmosphere)
acts as a well protected covering forus humans. Furthermore if one
were to read the context of these verses, one will see that these
details are being given as asign for us humans, and that we should be
grateful and thankful for this (that this is a benefit for us, to help
us).
With the discoveries of modern day science, we are now able to verify
the above claims, of how the earth's atmosphere does protect us
humans, and how the earth's atmosphere is indeed like aprotected roof
over our heads.
The atmosphere isn't just a nice sky for you to stare at, it isn't
just there for the sake of being there, rather the atmosphere has an
important role and function, you can sort of say that behind the
scenes a lot of work is being done to insure things go smoothly on
earth which inturn benefits us!
Let us see what modern day science has to say concerning the earth's atmosphere:
The Ozone Layer:
The Earth's atmosphere is divided into several layers. The lowest
region, the troposphere, extends from the Earth's surface up to about
10 kilometers (km) in altitude. Virtually all human activities occur
in the troposphere. Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain on the planet,
is only about 9 km high. The next layer, the stratosphere , continues
from 10 km to about 50 km. Most commercial airline traffic occurs in
the lower part of the stratosphere.
Most atmospheric ozone is concentrated in a layer in the stratosphere
, about 15-30 kilometers above the Earth's surface. Ozone isa molecule
containing three oxygen atoms. It is blue in color and has a strong
odor. Normal oxygen, which we breathe, has two oxygen atoms andis
colorless and odorless. Ozone is much less common than normal oxygen.
Out of each 10 million air molecules, about 2 million are normal
oxygen, but only 3 are ozone.
However, even the small amount of ozone plays a key role in the
atmosphere. The ozone layer absorbs a portion ofthe radiation from the
sun, preventing it from reaching the planet's surface. Most
importantly,it absorbs the portion of ultraviolet light called UVB .
UVB has been linked to many harmful effects , including various types
of skin cancer, cataracts, and harm to some crops, certain materials,
and some forms of marine life.
At any given time, ozone molecules are constantly formed and destroyed
in the stratosphere. The total amount, however, remains relatively
stable. The concentration of the ozone layer can be thought of as a
stream's depth at a particular location. Although water is constantly
flowing in and out, the depth remains constant.
While ozone concentrations vary naturally with sunspots, the seasons,
and latitude, these processes are well understood and predictable.
Scientists have established records spanning several decades that
detail normal ozone levels during these natural cycles. Each natural
reduction in ozone levels has been followed by a recovery. Recently,
however, convincing scientific evidence has shown that the ozone
shield is being depleted well beyond changes due to natural processes.

Ozone is very rare in our atmosphere, averaging about three molecules
of ozone for every 10 million air molecules. In spite of this small
amount, ozone plays a vital role in the atmosphere. In the information
below, we present "the basics" about this important component of the
Earth's atmosphere.
Where is ozone found in the atmosphere?
Ozone is mainly found in two regions of the Earth's atmosphere. Most
ozone (about 90%) resides in a layer that begins between 6 and 10
miles (10 and 17 kilometers) above the Earth's surface and extendsup
to about 30 miles (50 kilometers). This region of the atmosphere is
called the stratosphere. The ozone in this region is commonly known as
the ozone layer. The remainingozone is in the lower region of the
atmosphere, which is commonly called the troposphere. The
figure(above) shows an example of how ozone is distributedin the

The Quran and the Atmosphere
Tafseer of the verse “So on that Day no question will be asked of man or jinn as to his sin” [ar-Rahmaan 55:39]
What is the meaning of the verse that says that man will not be
questioned about his sin on the Day of Resurrection?.
Praise be to Allaah.
Perhaps the questioner is referring to the verse in which Allah, may
He be glorified and exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): "So
on that Day no question will be asked of man or jinn as to his sin"
[ar-Rahmaan 55:39].
This is one of the verses in Soorat ar-Rahmaan that speak of the
terrors of the Day of Resurrection and explain that one aspect of the
terror of that great Day is that no human or jinn will be questioned
about his sin.
The scholars have given a number of interpretations for this verse:
1.
That humans and jinn will not be questioned on the Day of Resurrection
by way of finding out about their sins, because Allah, may He be
glorified and exalted, knows best aboutthem. But He will questionthem
by way of making a statement or a rebuke or telling off. This is more
frightening and serves to emphasise the horror of what will happen on
the Day of Resurrection.
Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) says:
"no question will be askedof man or jinn as to his sin" – why? Because
everything is known. What is meant here is thatthere will be no
questioning by way of finding out, because all things are known. As
for the kind of asking that is intended as a stern rebuke, that will
take place. Allah, may He be exalted, says:
"And (remember) the Day (Allah) will call to them, and say: What
answer gave you to the Messengers?
Then the news of a good answer will be obscured to them on that day,
and they will not be able to ask one another"
[al-Qasas 28:65]
"Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic
Monotheism);
In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another,
About Al-Mujrimoon (polytheists, criminals, disbelievers, etc.), (And
they will say to them):
What has caused you to enter Hell?
They will say: We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers)"
[al-Muddaththir 74:39-42].
And Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, will say to the people of
Hell when they are thrown into it (interpretation of the meaning):
"Did there not come to you, your Messengers with(clear) evidences and
signs? They will say: Yes"
[Ghaafir 40:50].
So they will not be asked about their sin by way of finding out;
rather they will be asked by way of telling off and rebuking. What is
mentioned about humans and jinn being asked about their sins ("Did you
do it or not?") is questioning that is aimed at rebuking and telling
off.There is a difference between questioning that is aimed at finding
out and questioning that is aimed as a rebuke, so there is no
contradiction between the verses. The verses that speak of them being
questioned refer to questioning by way of rebuke and the verses
thatsay that they will not be questioned refer to questioning that is
aimed at finding out, because everything is already known and
recorded. End quote.

One of the frightening events that will take place on that Day is that
Allah will place a seal on the hearts of the disbelievers and
hypocrites, and their hands and feet will speak of what they used to
do. They will not be questioned at that time; rather their bodies will
be questioned and will bear witness against them, speaking of their
sins.

Because of the horror of what the disbelievers encounter on the Day of
Resurrection, they will be recognised by the blackening of their faces
and the bleariness of their eyes. So there will be no need to ask them
about their sins when the signs of disgrace have already appeared on
them. This is also a source of great terror and a difficult situation
on the Day of Resurrection. This does notcontradict the true
questioning that will occurat another stage, because the Day of
Resurrection will be a long day, with various stages.
Al-Haafiz Ibn Katheer (mayAllah have mercy on him) said:
The verse (interpretation of the meaning): "So on that Day no question
will be asked of man or jinn as to his sin" [ar-Rahmaan 55:39] is
similar to the verse in which Allah says (interpretation of the
meaning): "That will be a Day when they shall not speak (during some
part of it), And they will not be permitted to put forth anyexcuse"
[al-Mursalaat 77:35-36]. This is one stage. And there will be another
stage during which people will be questioned about all their deeds.
Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): "So, by your Lord (O
Muhammad SAW), We shall certainly call all of them to account. For all
that they used to do" [al-Hijr 15:92-93].....

Is it better to recite Qur’aan from memory orto read from the Mus-haf?
Is it better to read Qur'aanwhilst looking at the Mus-haf, or to
recite from memory?.
Praise be to Allaah.
In prayer, it is better to recite from memory. See question no. 3465 .
Outside of prayer, it is better for a person to do that which will
increase his khushoo' (humility, focus). If his khushoo' will be
increased by reciting from memory, then that isbetter; if his khushoo'
will be increased by reading from the Mus-haf, then that is better. If
it is the same in either case, then reading from the Mus-haf is
better, because it combines reading and looking, and his eyes will be
protected from looking at things that may distracthim from reciting
and pondering the meaning.
Al-Nawawi said in al-Adhkaar (p. 90-91):
Reading Qur'aan from the Mus-haf is better than reciting from memory;
thisis the view of our companions and it is well known from the salaf
(may Allaah be pleased with them). This does not apply in all cases
however;if the reader can focus andponder the meanings more when
reciting from memory than when reading from the Mus-haf, then reciting
from memory is better. If it is the same in both cases, then reading
from the Mus-haf is better. This is what the salaf meant.
There are weak (da'eef) ahaadeeth narrated from the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) which cannot be used as proof that it
is better to look at the Mus-haf. We mention them only to draw
attention to the fact that they are weak. These include:
"Looking at the Mus-haf is an act of worship; for a child to look at
his parentsis an act of worship; looking at 'Ali ibn Abi Taalib is an
act of worship." This is a fabricated (mawdoo') hadeeth, as al-Albaani
saidin al-Silsilah al-Da'eefah, 1/531.
"Give your eyes their shareof worship: looking at the Mus-haf,
thinking about it and pondering its wonders." This is also fabricated
(mawdoo'). Al-Silsilah al-Da'eefah, 4/88.
"Five things are acts of worship: eating little, sitting in the
mosque, looking at the Ka'bah, looking at the Mus-haf andlooking at
the face of a scholar." This is a very weak (da'eef jiddan) hadeeth.
Da'eef al-Jaami' al-Sagheer, no. 2855.
And Allaah knows best.

Good morning dear friends,
A fresh steamy cup of foglifter coffee is before me. (ahhh)
I've been out wateringall morning, and..... it'sgetting old.
Some of my plants andflowers.. I'm about ready to just let go.
The potted plants have taken a nose dive.
They look like death row on our front steps.
With all the watering in the garden, I really need to weedeat around
the perimeter, but with it so dry out in the yard, it's scary mowing
and even weedeating for fear ofsparks. On a happy note: Our
tomatoes are the one thing doing amazing. They're mulched heavily
with old hay and I just use the waterhose and soak around each stem
coming out of the ground. Maters seem to love it hot n steamyso long
as they don't get dry ...and it has definitely been hot n steamy.
The picture above is an ear of the strawberry corn, growing at my Happy Place.
The stalks are dying off now and finally thelittle ears are turning.
These shades of pinks -to the burgundy could be my new favorite
colors. -- Especially next to the creamy white husks. Hey; wouldn't
they look great with some turq on the side?!!
The little postage stamp garden there ispretty much done for the
year. The flowers are spent, and the onlything left- a handful of
small sunflowers, and the ornamental corn. I'll let them all hang out
for the rest of the week, then finish pulling up the stalks to save
for decorating this Fall. The morning glories were doing aweseome,
but I thinkthe bunny who lives there has taken to making "morning
glory" his evening salad.
It's okay though... he's just a nibbler. I think when it cools down
inSeptember, I'll plant some kale, mustard, and other fresh
greensthere. ;)
Our best sweetcorn was the patch by our barn. I'm still watering
there, as we have pumpkins and the moon and stars watermelon growing
in the corn rows. We have coons in the cornnow but they have
canwhat's left. So long asthey don't get any cravings to have
some"chicken" along with it... they're welcome. It's funny, they pick
anear of corn and eat it and leave it lay on the ground in the rows.
I don't know if they suck on the cob or what coz they're kindawet and
the funny thing is our banty hens eat any of the leftovers like they
struck gold or something. It's funny how excited they sound when
they discover... one of those wet cobs when I turn them out first
thing of the morning. They make these happy clucking noises and then
everyone else comes running to see what the fuss is allabout. "Corn
on the cob! Yahoo!"
It looks strange to see an empty pasture still.
In some ways... it's a relief.
Still no rain... and the 10 day forecast is most days over 100 and I
think one or maybe two days of 20 percent chance afternoon
thundershower. No matter what they say.. I know God's bigger than
all that.
He's got us covered,
no matter what.
