Want to stay healthy - thenplace fruits in a clear bowl within arm's
reach, so that you could help yourself whenever you felt the urgeto
eat.
The new study says that when fruits are within reach, people are more
likely to eat them. Greater visibility of fruit increases their
intake, but the same does not hold true for vegetables.
Researchers Gregory J. Privitera and Heather E. Creary, both from St.
Bonaventure University, Olean, U.S., tested a total of96 college
students by placing apple slices and carrot cuts in either clear
oropaque bowls at a table close at arms' length or at a table two
metres away.
Participants watched as the food was taken out of its packaging and
were told that they were welcome to eat it, the journal Environment
and Behaviour reports.
After leaving the students alone with the food for 10 minutes, the
researchers found that when apples and carrots were left close to the
participants, those healthy foods were more likely to be eaten,
according to St. Bonaventure statement.
Interestingly, making the food more visible to participants by placing
them in clear bowls increased the intake of the apples but not the
carrots. The researchers said this might be due to the fact that fruit
is sweeter and may induce more motivation to eat than bitter-tasting
vegetables.
"Apples, but not carrots, have sugar, which is known to stimulate
brain reward regions that inducea 'wanting' for foods that contain
sugar," the authorswrote. "Hence, apple slices may be more visually
appealing than carrots."

Islam is a religion of Mercy, Peace and Blessing. Its teachings emphasize kind hear tedness, help, sympathy, forgiveness, sacrifice, love and care.Qur’an, the Shari’ah and the life of our beloved Prophet (SAW) mirrors this attribute, and it should be reflected in the conduct of a Momin.Islam appreciates those who are kind to their fellow being, and dislikes them who are hard hearted, curt, and hypocrite.Recall that historical moment, when Prophet (SAW) entered Makkah as a conqueror. There was before him a multitude of surrendered enemies, former oppressors and persecutors, who had evicted the Muslims from their homes, deprived them of their belongings, humiliated and intimidated Prophet (SAW) hatched schemes for his murder and tortured and killed his companions. But Prophet (SAW) displayed his usual magnanimity, generosity, and kind heartedness by forgiving all of them and declaring general amnesty...Subhanallah. May Allah help us tailor our life according to the teachings of Islam. (Aameen)./-

‘Whatever situation you find yourself in, derive a point of benefit.’
One piece of advice I'll never forget is when it wassaid to me (or did
I read it somewhere?) that: 'Whatever situation you find yourself in,
derive a point of benefit.'
The last 3 weeks (and beforehand) for me have felt like no less than a
rollercoaster ride – sudden phone calls from family, surprises beyond
my expectation, births followed by deaths followed by spontaneous
family drama, abrupt change of plans, unexpected travelling, finding
myself in situationswhere I've been told to make big decisions in less
than 5mins! Phew, I guess you can say it's been slightly err…
challenging. But subhanallah, one thing that didn't leave my mind is
the golden advice: 'Whatever situation you find yourself in, derive a
point of benefit.' – And it was this that had me sitting & looking
over my situation and the changes that came with it, seeking out the
hidden fawa'id (benefits) and trying to take some lesson from it all.
Everybody has a story to tell, and this is the undisputed fact of
life. The maqadir (decrees) of Allah which are embedded into our lives
swiftly take us on a diverse course whereby we all emerge with
something different to oneanother – different experiences, different
strengths & weaknesses, different mentalities and viewpoints. The wise
one ishe/she who learns from these lessons of life, these Signs and
Sunnan of Allah, our Maker `azza wa jall.
For many, acting upon this advice of learning to derivebenefit from
every moment of life will mean taking a few minutes out on a regular
basis, to contemplate over the course of the day, week or even year.
Regardless of whether you perceive yoursituation to be good or bad(or
somewhere in between), there is always apoint of benefit which you can
obtain and take from. The more you do this, the more you develop your
optimism and judgement in matters – and this not only gives you a
healthy outlook on life's sudden twists and turns, but it
alsoincreases your Iman as youlearn to appreciate the Qadr of Allah,
gain husn al-dhann of Allah (good expectations & opinion) and overall
become a moregrateful slave of Allah.
