*- WHAT ISLAM SAYS -* - Islam is a religion of Mercy, Peace and Blessing. Its teachings emphasize kind hear tedness, help, sympathy, forgiveness, sacrifice, love and care.Qur’an, the Shari’ah and the life of our beloved Prophet (SAW) mirrors this attribute, and it should be reflected in the conduct of a Momin.Islam appreciates those who are kind to their fellow being, and dislikes them who are hard hearted, curt, and hypocrite.Recall that historical moment, when Prophet (SAW) entered Makkah as a conqueror. There was before him a multitude of surrendered enemies, former oppressors and persecutors, who had evicted the Muslims from their homes, deprived them of their belongings, humiliated and intimidated Prophet (SAW) hatched schemes for his murder and tortured and killed his companions. But Prophet (SAW) displayed his usual magnanimity, generosity, and kind heartedness by forgiving all of them and declaring general amnesty...Subhanallah. May Allah help us tailor our life according to the teachings of Islam. (Aameen)./-

Fataawa Regarding Mother's Day-II

5- Shaykh 'Abdul-'Azeez ibn Baazsaid,
I read the article that was published by An-Nadwah Journal, on
30-11-1384 AH, under the title "Honoring the Mother and Honoring the
Family", and felt that the writer appreciated, from many perspectives,
the Western innovation of fixing a day in the year to celebrate the
mother. He mentioned in his article something of which the advocates
of that day were heedless. I mean the state of melancholy and grief
that afflicts the motherless children when seeing their friends
celebrating and honoring their mothers. He, instead, proposed to
extend the celebration to include all family members, apologizing for
the fact that Islam did not bring this day, because the Islamic
Sharee'ah has made honoring the mother an obligation.
The writer did well by his apology on behalf of Islam on one hand, and
the mention of the evil effect of this day of which its inventors were
heedless. However, at the same time, he did not refer to the
disagreement of this religious innovation with the clear texts that
were narrated on the authority of the Messenger of Islamand their
resulting harm and the imitation they imply of the polytheists and
disbelievers. By this brief word, I would like to bring to the mind of
that writer and others, the evil of this religious innovation that was
invented by the enemies and ignorant people of Islam to the extent
that they defamed it ]i.e., Islam[, and caused people to have aversion
to it. This normally results in confusion and division, whose harmful
effects and corruption are known only to Allaah The Almighty.
It is proven, in authentic Hadeeths, that the Prophetwarned us about
religious innovations, and imitating the enemies of Allaah, namely the
Jews and Christians and polytheists. A mention may be made of his
statement:"Whoever introduces anything new in our matter ]i.e.
religion[, which does not originally belong to it, it will be
rejected."]Al-Bukhaari and Muslim[ According to another version by
Muslim:"Whoever does something that is not supported by our matter
]religion[, it will be rejected."]Muslim[
Furthermore, the Prophetwould say in his Friday Khutbah )sermon(:"To
proceed, the best speech is the Book of Allaah; the best guidance is
the guidance of Muhammad; and the worst of matters are the innovations
]in religion[; and every religious innovation leads to
misguidance."]Muslim[
No doubt, fixing a day in the year to celebrate and honor the mother
or the family is among the innovations of matters ]in religion[, which
was not done by the Prophetnor by his Companions. So, it is obligatory
to leave it and warn people not to participate in it, and to be
satisfied instead with what has been ordained by Allaah The Almighty
and His Messenger.
It has already been clarified that the writer referred to the fact
that the Islamic Sharee'ah has ordered the Muslims to honor the mother
and constantly encourages dutifulness to her. Indeed, he has told the
truth in this respect. It is obligatory for the Muslims to be
satisfied with what has been ordained for them by Allaah The Almighty,
as regards dutifulness to the mother, honoring her, doing good to her
and obeying her in what is good at all times. Meanwhile, they have to
beware of the innovations of religious matters, of which Allaah The
Almighty warned them, since they lead them to imitate the enemies of
Allaah, follow in their footsteps and the innovations which they like.
This is not unique to the mother in particular, since Allaah The
Almighty ordered the Muslims to be dutiful to both parents, to honor
them, do good to them, and maintain all kinship ties; He also warned
them of undutifulness and severing ties. Allaah The Almighty has
favored the mother with more care and dutifulness because she cares
for the child more, and her suffering in pregnancy, birth and
breastfeeding is greater. In confirmation of this, Allaah The Almighty
Says )what means(:
·}And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to
parents, good treatment.{]Quran 17:23[
·}And We have enjoined upon man ]care[ for his parents. His mother
carried him, ]increasing her[ in weakness upon weakness, and his
weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me
is the ]final[ destination.{]Quran: 31:14[
·}So would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption on earth
and sever your ]ties of[ relationship? Those ]who do so[ are the ones
that Allaah has cursed, so He deafened them and blinded their
vision.{]Quran 47:22-23[
It was narrated in an authentic Hadeeth that the Messenger of
Allaahsaid:"Should I not tell you about the greatest of the grave
major sins?"They ]the Companions[ said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allaah."
Hesaid:"To associate partners with Allaah ]in worship[, to be
undutiful to parents."]When he said so[ he was reclining. Then hesat
up and said:"Behold! ]I warn you about[ giving a forged statement!
Behold! ]I warn you of[ giving a false witness!"
Another Hadeeth states: "A man asked the Messenger of Allaahsaying, 'O
Messenger of Allaah, who is most entitled to my best companionship?'
The Prophetsaid:'Your mother.'The man said, 'Who comes next?' The
Prophetsaid:'Your mother.'The man further asked, 'Who comes next?' The
Prophetsaid:'Your mother.'The man asked ]for the fourth time[, 'Who
comes next?' The Prophetsaid'Your father, and then the next of kin.'"
The Prophetfurther said:"No severer, i.e. one who severs kinship ties,
shall enter Paradise."
It was narrated in an authentic Hadeeth that the Prophetsaid:"Whoever
wants his means of sustenance to be expanded for him or his lifetime
to be lengthened should maintain his kinship ties."]Muslim[
There are many famous Quranic verses and Prophetic Hadeeths that
support the obligation of dutifulness to parents, maintaining kinship
ties and confirming the mother's right. However, what we have
mentioned is sufficient. They clearly indicate the obligation of
honoring both parents, showing respect to them, doing good to them as
well as to all kith and kin constantly. They also guide to the fact
that undutifulness to parents and severing kinship ties are among the
most odious attributes and grave major sins which bring about the fire
]of Hell[ and the wrath of ]Allaah[ The Compeller; we ask Allaah to
save us from that.
Surely, this is more overwhelming and greater than the Western
innovation of favoring the mother with only one day of honoring in the
year, which leads to neglecting her all the remaining days of the year
and turning away from the right of the father and all kith and kin. It
is clear for those who are intelligent that this measure results in
great corruption, disagrees with the law of the Wisest of all the
wise, and leads to falling into evil of which His trustworthy
Messengerwarned.
Along with this innovation is the celebration held by a lot of people,
namely, Mawlids, commemoration of national independence or accessionto
the throne, and so on. These all belong to the religious innovations
in which a lot of Muslims imitate the enemies of Allaah The Almighty,
and pay no heed to the warnings and prohibitions that are mentioned in
the purified Sharee'ah.
This confirms the authentic Hadeeth where the Messenger of
Allaahsaid:"You will follow the ways of those who were before you very
closely ]i.e. so completely and literally[ that if they should go into
the hole of a lizard, you too will go there."The Companionsasked,"O
Messenger of Allaah! Do you mean the Jews and the Christians?" He
replied:"Who else?"]Al-Bukhaari and Muslim[
According to another version:"My Ummah will copy the deeds of the
previous nations, span by span and cubit by cubit ]i.e., inch by
inch[."They ]the Companions[ asked, "O Messenger of Allaah! Do you
mean by those ]nations[ the Persians and the Romans?" He said:"Who can
it be other than them?"]Al-Bukhaari[
Indeed, what was foretold by the Prophetcame true. The people of this
Ummah, except whomever Allaah willed not to, have imitated those who
were before them, from among the Jews, Christians and Magians, and
others like them of the disbelievers, in many of their morals and
deeds, to the extent that Islam has become alien to them; many people
regard the ways, morals and deeds of the disbelievers better than what
has been brought by Islam. Good has turned into evil, and evil into
good, the Sunnah into religious innovation, and the religious
innovation into Sunnah, in the sight of the majority of the people,
simply because of ignorance, and turning away from what has been
brought by Islam in terms of noble morals and righteous deeds. We ask
Allaah to help Muslims understand their religion, to set right their
affairs and guide their leaders, and to direct our scholars and
writers to publicize the good that our religion has come with, and to
warn about the religious innovations and invented heresies which
defame it and cause people to have aversion to it; He has power over
all things. May Allaah confer blessing and peace upon His slave and
Messenger - Muhammad- and upon his family and Companions, and those
who follow his way and emulate the guidance of his Sunnah till the Day
of Judgment.
According to some scholars, the man should do his best before Allaah
The Almighty when attempting to set right the affairs of his wife. The
Messenger of Allaah, said:"Whoever imitates a people becomes one of
them."

Fataawa Regarding Mother's Day-I

1- The scholars of the Permanent Committeesaid,
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds and may His
peace and blessing be upon His Messenger, his family and Companions.
First: The word "'Eed" ]festival[ is a term given to the occasion of
assembly which customarily recurs annually, monthly, weekly or so on.
It implies a recurring day such as the day of 'Eed Al-Fitr, Friday,
and so on, the assembly on that day and the deeds wherewith it is
held, in terms of acts of worship and customs.
Second: Any of the days that are intended for worship, drawing closer
to or honoring Allaah, seeking reward, or imitating the people of the
pre-Islamic days or their likes from among the disbelievers, is an
invented religious innovation, that is forbidden ]under Sharee'ah[, as
being included in the general statement of the Prophet:"Whoever
introduces anything new in our matter ]i.e. religion[, which does not
originally belong to it, it will be rejected."]Al-Bukhaari and Muslim[
A typical example is celebrating the Prophetic Mawlid )birthday(,
Mother's Day and National Day. The first implies a religious
innovation of an act of worship, which was not ordained by Allaah The
Almighty on the one hand, and an imitation of the Christians and
others like them from the disbelievers. The second and the third imply
imitation of the disbelievers. However, if the occasion is intended to
organize work in a way that serves the benefit of the Ummah )nation(
and adjusts the affairs of its people, like holding a traffic week,
putting a timetable at the beginning of the academic year, meeting
with employees to organize work, and so on, whose aim is not to come
closer to, honor or worship ]Allaah[, it then belongs to the ordinary
innovations which are not included in the statement of the Prophet.
There is nothing wrong with it, and it is even valid under the
Sharee'ah.
With Allaah The Almighty lies success; and may Allaah confer blessing
and peace upon our Prophet - Muhammad- and his household and
Companions.
2- They also said,
It is impermissible to celebrate what is called "Mother's Day" or
other such innovated days ]festivals[, due to the statement of the
Prophet:"Whoever does something that is not supported by our matter
]religion[, it will be rejected."]Muslim[ The celebration of Mother's
Day neither belongs to the Sunnah of the Prophetnor was it done by his
Companionsnor the righteous predecessors of this Ummah. On the
contrary, it is a religious innovation that also involves imitation of
the disbelievers.
3- Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaansaid,
Muslims imitate the disbelievers in many things, including matters of
worship, such as polytheistic deeds like building over graves,
installing tombs over them and exceeding the due limits in the matter
of the graves in general. The Messenger of Allaahsaid:"May Allaah send
His curse on the Jews and Christians, who took the graves of their
prophets as places of worship."He said that whenever a righteous man
died among them, they used to build a place of worship over his grave
and paint pictures in it and say that they would be considered )by
Allaah( as the worst of people on the Day of Judgment. Because of
exceeding the due limits in the matter of graves, the people fell into
major Shirk )polytheism(, which is well-known among all people.
Going back to the matter at hand, such practices give rise to such
deviation due to imitating the Jews and Christians in matters like the
celebration of polytheistic and innovated festivals, for example the
celebration of Mawlids )birthdays( on the birth-date of the Messenger
of Allaahand the celebration of the birthdays of presidents and kings.
These kinds of polytheistic innovated events might be called certain
"Days" or "Weeks", like National Day, Mother's Day, Cleanliness Week,
and so on; all these have come to the Muslims via the disbelievers, as
in Islam, there are no more than two 'Eeds )festivals(: 'Eed Al-Fitr
and 'Eed Al-Adh'ha, and anything else is a religious innovation and an
imitation of the disbelievers. So, it is obligatory for the Muslims to
take heed of this and not be deceived by the large number of people
who do it, from among those who belong to Islam but are ignorant of
the real nature of Islam, which causes them to fall into these
mistakes because of their ignorance, as well as those who are not
ignorant of the real nature of Islam, which means that they make these
mistakes intentionally. In the latter case of people who adopt such
practices intentionally, the calamity is even more severe. Allaah The
Almighty Says )what means(:}There has certainly been for you in the
Messenger of Allaah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in
Allaah and the Last Day and ]who[ remembers Allaah often.{]Quran
33:21[
4- When Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih Al-'Uthaymeenwas asked about the
ruling on celebrating what is called Mother's Day, he gave the
following answer:
Indeed, all festivals ]and days[ that conflict with the
Sharee'ah-approved festivals are but innovated festivals which were
unknown among the righteous predecessors. Keeping in mind that their
source might be non-Muslim, they would then imply, besides their being
a religious innovation, an imitation of the enemies of Allaah The
Almighty.
The Sharee'ah-approved festivals are known among the Muslims, i.e.
'Eed Al-Fitr and 'Eed Al-Adh'ha, in addition to the weekly 'Eed, i.e.
Friday; and there are no festivals in Islam other than these three.
Any festivals that have been innovated other than these should be
rejected because they are invalid under the Sharee'ah of Allaah The
Almighty, due to the statement of the Prophet:"Whoever introduces
anything new in our matter ]i.e. religion[, which does not originally
belong to it, it will be rejected."]Al-Bukhaari and Muslim[ i.e. it
will be rejected by its originator and not accepted )by Allaah(.
According to another version:"Whoever does something that is not
supported by our matter ]religion[, it will be rejected."]Muslim[
Being so, it is impermissible, concerning the day mentioned in the
question, which is called Mother's Day, to do any rite that is
characteristic of 'Eed, like expressing delight and pleasure,
presenting gifts and such things. Moreover, it is obligatory for the
Muslim to cherish and be proud of his religion, and be satisfied with
what has been ordained by Allaah The Almighty for His slaves, without
addition or reduction. The Muslim should also not be a yes-man, who is
too submissive and follows whatever is called for. On the contrary, he
should form his independent personality according to the principles of
the Sharee'ah of Allaah The Almighty and follow that rather than
follow others. He should be a good pattern ]to be followed[ and not an
imitator ]of others[. This is because the Sharee'ah of Allaah - all
perfect praise be to Allaah - is perfect in all respects, as confirmed
by Allaah The Almighty in His saying )what means(:}This day I have
perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and
have approved for you Islam as religion.{]Quran 5:3[
The mother deserves to be honored every day of the year. Her children
should care for her, look after her and obey her in anything that
leads to no disobedience of Allaah The Almighty, in every time and
place.

Dought & clear, - - - - Sifat al-Salaah (description of the prayer) - Ruling on prayer if one omits some obligatory parts out of ignorance orforgetfulness.

If a person makes a mistake in adhkaar that are obligatory in the
prayer, such as the dhikr when sitting between the two prostrations
and in the tashahhud – the first part of it – what is the ruling on
his prayer if he forgot or was unaware (that it is obligatory)? What
about previous prayers in which he made this mistake and does he have
t o repeat them?.
Praise be to Allaah.
Firstly:
The dhikr that comes between the two prostrations is one of the
Sunnahs of the prayer and is not obligatory. This has been discussed
previously in the answer to question no. 130981
Based on that, if a person omits it deliberately or out of ignorance,
that does not render his prayer invalid and he does not have to do
anything. If he forgot it although he usually does it, it is mustahabb
for him to do the two prostrations of forgetfulness before the salaam.
Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-'Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him)
said: If a person omits one of the mustahabb words or actions out of
forgetfulness and he usually does it, then it is prescribed for him to
prostrate (the prostration of forgetfulness) to make up for this
omission that affected the perfection of the prayer but was not an
omission of something obligatory, because of the general meaning of
the words of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) in
the hadeeth, "For every mistake there are two prostrations"– narrated
by Abu Dawood; it is a hasan hadeeth. InSaheeh Muslimit says: "If one
of you forgets, let him prostrate twice." As this is general in
meaning, if he omits a Sunnah that he does not usually do, then it is
not Sunnah for him to prostrate, because it never occurred to him to
do it.
End quote fromash-Sharh al-Mumti' 'ala Zaad al-Mustaqni', 3/333, 334
Secondly:
The first Tashahhud is one of the obligatory parts of the prayer
although it is not one of the pillars or essential parts, as was
explained previously in the answer to question no. 34570
If someone omits this obligatory part deliberately, his prayer is
rendered invalid, as you will see in the answer to question no. 9897.
If someone omits it because he forgot, then he has to do the
prostration of forgetfulness before the salaam. If someone omits it
because he is unaware of the ruling on it, he does not have to do
anything, because the one who is unaware is excused.
The evidence for the obligatory parts of the prayer being waived in
the case of forgetfulness, and that the prostration of forgetfulness
is required in this case, is the report narrated by al-Bukhaari (795)
and Muslim (570) from 'Abdullah ibn Buhaynah (may Allah be pleased
with him), according to which the Prophet (blessings and peace of
Allah be upon him) led them in praying Zuhr, then he stood up after
the first two rak'ahs and did not sit, and the people got up with him.
When he had finished the prayer and the people were waiting for him to
say the tasleem, he said takbeer whilst sitting and prostrated twice
before saying the salaam, then he said the salaam.
Ibn Qudaamah (may Allah have mercy on him) said, concerning one who
omitted the obligatory part deliberately: His prayer is rendered
invalid. But if he omitted it by mistake, he should do the prostration
of forgetfulness before he says the salaam, because of the report
narrated by 'Abdullah ibn Maalik ibn Buhaynah -- and he quoted the
hadeeth. Thus this idea is proven, and by analogy we apply the same
principle to all the obligatory parts (of the prayer).
End quote fromal-Kaafi, 1/273
And Allah knows best.

Dought & clear, - - - - Sifat al-Salaah (description of the prayer) - He translates the meanings of the words of the prayer and adhkaar to himself after saying them in Arabic.

Please could you tell me if what I am doing is permissible or not?
Arabic is not my mother tongue, and sometimes when I pray, after I say
something, I repeat it in English in my mind so as to increase my
focus (khushoo') and to focus more in my prayer. Hence for example
after I say "Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah" in Arabic, I repeat it in my
mind in English ("Allah hears those who praise Him"). Is this
permissible or not?.
Praise be to Allaah.
There is nothing wrong with what you are doing to focus on the
meanings of the words and adhkaar of the prayer in English after
saying them in Arabic. This comes under the heading of pondering the
meaning and keeping it in mind. That is so long as you do not utter
it; rather you say it to yourself in your mind, because the one who is
praying is not allowed to say these words in anything but Arabic if he
is able to say them in Arabic. And Allaah knows best.
