Creation in the Quran

Religion has taught the truth of creation, which all people can grasp
through reason and personal observation, since the creation of
firsthuman being. All divine religions have taught that God created
the universe by commanding "Be!" and that its flawless functioning is
proof of His great power of creation. Many verses in the Qur'an also
reveal this truth. For example, God reveals how He miraculously
created theuniverse from nothing: " The Originator of the heavens and
Earth. When He decides on something, He just says to it, 'Be!' and it
is " (Surat al-Baqara, 117).
We are also told in the Qur'an:
He created the heavens and Earth with truth. Theday He says "Be!" it
is. Hisspeech is Truth. The Kingdom will be His on the Day the Trumpet
is blown, the Knower of the Unseen and the Visible. He is the
All-Wise,the All-Aware. (Surat al-An'am, 73)
We all know that presentday science demonstrates the invalidity of the
materialist-evolutionist claim and confirms the fact of creation.
Contraryto the claims of the theory of evolution, all the proofs of
creation that surround us show that chance had no role in the
universe's coming into existence. Every detail that emerges as we
observe the sky, Earth, and all living things is intended as evidence
of God's great power and wisdom.
God Created the Universefrom Nothing
God creates everything, in the form and at the time that He chooses,
without the use of any model and out of nothing. Since He is exalted
above any defectand is rich beyond any need. He has no need of any
cause, vehicle, or stages for His creation. Nobody should be deceived
by the fact thateverything is linked to given causes and naturallaws.
God is beyond all these causes and laws, since He created them.
God, the Lord of the Earth and the Heavens, can also do away with
these causes if He so wills. For instance, He can create people who do
not need oxygen to survive, and therefore do not need any lungs. Given
this, why would He "need" to perfect the lung by making it evolveover
time or through any other mechanism? It is therefore completely wrong
for people to think of God's greatness and might as being limited to
their own feelings and reason. We can have knowledge only to the
extent that He permits.
God can use particular stages in His creation if He so wills. For
example, He produces a plant from a seed or a human being from the
coming together of a sperm and an egg cell. Yet these stages have
nothing to do with evolution and have no room for chanceor
coincidence. Every stage in the emergence of a plant, or the turningof
a single cell into a human being "in the best of forms," happens
thanks to the perfect systems created by God'sinfinite might.
God willed and created the Earth and the Heavens, all that lies
between, and all living and non-living things. This is very easy for
Him, as indicated in the Qur'an:
He created the heavens and Earth with truth. Theday He says "Be!" it
is. Hisspeech is Truth... (Surat al-An'am, 73)
Our Word to a thing when We will it is just to say to it "Be!" and it
is. (Surat an-Nahl, 40)
He gives life and causes to die. When He decides on something, He just
says to it, "Be!" and it is. (Surah Ghafir, 68)
Creation is very easy for God. As revealed in theseverses, God says to
a thing "Be!," thereby willing it to be so. God reveals in many verses
that He created the universe and living things in perfect form. It is
a grave mistake for believers to adhere to forced explanations in the
face of this evident truth and to make such specious claims that God
employed evolution to create and used mutation, natural selection, and
transitional stages between apes and humans. It is quite wrong to put
forward such accounts, for whichthere is no evidence in either the
Qur'an or science, in the hope of being accepted by evolutionists.
God makes all the laws in the universe and givesthem the form He
chooses, brings about what He wills and when He wills it, permeates
everything in the Earth and the Heavens, and rules everything with
Hispower. Yet some people do not fully comprehendHis might and thus
judgeHim based upon their own limited powers.
God reveals their existence in the Qur'an:
They do not measure God with His true measure when they say:"God would
not send down anything to a mere human being."... (Surat al-An'am, 91)
They do not measure God with His true measure. God is All-Strong,
Almighty. (Surat al-Hajj, 74)
They do not measure God with His true measure. The whole Earth will be
a mere handful for Him on the Day of Resurrection the heavens folded
up in His right hand. Glory be to Him! He is exalted above the
partners they ascribe! (Surataz-Zumar, 67)
Contrary to what those who believe in evolutionary creation suggest,
God did not firstcreate apes and then cause them to evolve into humans
through flawed transitional forms with missing organs. Rather, as the
Qur'an reveals, God created man in the most perfect manner:
We created man in the finest mold. (Surat at-Tin, 4)
He created the heavens and Earth with truth andformed you, giving you
the best of forms. And Heis your final destination. (Surat
at-Taghabun, 3)
These verses are some ofthe proofs that God created man in perfect
form, in other words, the form that he has now.
Of course, man also has several incapacities and weaknesses, all of
whichremind him of his poverty before our Lord. Deformities and
disabilities are the results of a purposeful creation, for they serve
as reminders for those who see them and as a test for those who carry
them. They are not imperfections caused by evolutionary process as
falsely claimed by the evolutionists.
In the Qur'an, God describes how easy creation is for Him:
Does He Who created theheavens and Earth not have the power to create
the same again? Yes indeed! He is the Creator, the All-Knowing.(Surah
Ya Sin, 81)
Your creation and resurrection is only like that of a single self. God
is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.(Surah Luqman, 28)

Acts of worship which are prescribed on Fridays

* Friday Prayers - - - I know that Friday has many virtues. Could you
tell me some acts of worship that I can do on this day?.
Praise be to Allaah.
Yes, Friday is a good day;there are many ahaadeeth which speak of its
virtues. See Question no. 9211 .
There are many acts of worship which are prescribed for the Muslim to
do on this day.These include:
1 – Salaat al-Jumu'ah (Friday prayer)
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"O you who believe (Muslims)! When the call is proclaimed for the
Salaah (prayer) on Friday (Jumu'ah prayer), come to the remembrance of
Allaah [Jumu'ah religious talk (Khutbah) and Salaah (prayer)] and
leave off business (and every other thing). That is better for you if
you did but know!"
[al-Jumu'ah 62:9]
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Zaad al-Ma'aad (1/376):
Friday prayer is one of the most important obligations in Islam, and
one of the greatest gatherings of the Muslims. Gathering on Friday is
more importantand more obligatory than any other gathering apart from
'Arafah. Whoever neglects it, Allaah will place a seal on his heart.
It was narrated from Abu'l-Ja'd al-Damari – who was a companion of the
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) – that the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever neglects
threeJumu'ahs, Allaah will place a seal on his heart."
Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1052; classed assaheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh
Abi Dawood, 928
It was narrated from 'Abd-Allaah ibn 'Umar and Abu Hurayrah that they
heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon
him) say on the minbar:
"Let people stop neglecting Jumu'ah, or Allaah will place a seal on
their hearts, then they will be among those who are neglectful."
Narrated by Muslim, 865.
2 – Making a lot of du'aa'.
On this day there is a time when a person's Lord will answer his
du'aa' – by Allaah's leave.
It was narrated from AbuHurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that
the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
mentioned Friday and said: "On this day there is a time when no Muslim
stands and prays,asking Allaah for something, but Allaah will grant
him it" – and he gestured with his hands to indicate how short that
time is.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari,893; Muslim, 852
3 – Reading Soorat al-Kahf.
It was narrated from AbuSa'eed al-Khduri that theProphet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf
on Friday, he willbe illuminated with lightbetween the two Fridays."
Narrated by al-Haakim; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh
al-Targheeb, 836
4 – Sending a lot of blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him).
It was narrated from Aws ibn Aws that the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) said: "The best of your days is Friday. On that
day Adam(peace be upon him) was created; on that dayhe died; on that
day the Trumpet will be blown; and on that day all of creation will
swoon. So send a great deal of blessings upon me, for your blessings
will be shown to me." They said,"O Messenger of Allaah, how will our
blessings upon you be shown to you when you have turned to dust?" He
said, "Allaah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the
Prophets, peace be uponthem."
Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1047; classed assaheeh by Ibn al-Qayyim in his
comments on Sunan Abi Dawood, 4/273; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani
in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 925.
He said in 'Awn al-Ma'bood:
Friday is singled out because it is the best of days and the chosen
day.So there is an advantageto sending blessings upon him on that day
that is not present on any other day.
Along with these virtues and acts of worship, the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade singling out Friday for
fasting, or singling out the night of Friday for doing acts of worship
that are not narrated in sharee'ah.
It was narrated from AbuHurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) said: "Do not single out the night of Friday
for qiyaam al-layl,and do not single out the day of Friday for
fasting, unless that is part of the habitual fasting of any one of
you."
(Narrated by Muslim, 1144).
Al-San'aani said in Subul al-Salaam:
This hadeeth indicates that it is haraam to single out the night of
Friday for worship or reading Qur'aan that is not one's regular
custom, apart from that which is indicated in thetexts, such as
reading Soorat al-Kahf.
Al-Nawawi said:
This hadeeth clearly states that it is forbiddento single out the
night ofFriday for prayer or the day of Friday for fasting. It is
agreed (among the scholars) that this is makrooh.
He also said:
The scholars said that the reason why it is forbidden to single out
Friday for fasting is that Friday is a day of du'aa', dhikr and
worship, such as ghusl, going early to the prayer, waiting for the
prayer, listening to the khutbah and recitinga lot of dhikr
afterwards,because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"Then when the (Jumu'ah) Salaah (prayer) is ended, you may disperse
through the land, and seek the Bounty of Allaah (by working), and
remember Allaah much"
[al-Jumu'ah 62:10]
And there are other acts of worship to be done on this day. So it is
preferable not to fast then, as this will help a person to perform
these duties in an energetic manner and enjoy them without feeling
bored ortired. This is like the pilgrim on the day of 'Arafah in
'Arafah, because the Sunnah is for him not to fast on that day for the
same reason… This is the reason for not allowing singling out Friday
for fasting. And it was said that the reason is so thatpeople will
not go to extremes in venerating it as happened in the case of
Saturday. But thisview is weak, because on that day we offer Jumu'ah
prayer and do other acts of worship which are a kind of veneration.
And it was said that the reason for its prohibition is so that people
would not think that this was obligatory. This is also a weak view
because it is encouragedto fast on Mondays and there was no fear that
anyone would think it was obligatory. No attention should be paidto
this far-fetched view. The same argument is applicable in the case of
fasting the day of 'Arafah and the day of 'Ashoora', etc. The correct
view is that which we have stated above.

He receives accident victims in the hospital – is it permissible for him to miss Jumu’ah prayers?

I am a nurse in a hospital. I am in charge of receiving patients. On
Fridays I stay there alone, along with a doctor. Do I have to attend
Jumu'ah prayers or not, seeing that the department receives accident
victims and emergency cases 24 hours a day?.
Praise be to Allaah.
If your work in the hospital requires you to be there at the time of
Jumu'ah prayer in case of accidents and emergencies, there is nothing
wrong with your staying in the hospital and you are excused for
missing Jumu'ah prayers. You should pray Zuhr, four rak'ahs, instead.

Cyber Games at Goa
Serious gamers head to Goa this weekend to pit skills against one
anotherat the fourth season of the Indian Cyber Gaming Championship.
Winners of the championship there will head to international events,
including the Malaysia TGX 2012 and Electronic Sports World Cup in
Paris later this year.
The gamers or 'cyberathletes', as they call themselves, will compete
in three categories — console games, PC games and mobile games. They
will take to the virtual field under popular titles ranging from

on iTunes charts.
Rovio has achieved cult status among developers for its innovative
gameplay and addictive storylines. Its Angry Birds game was taken up

The Central TB Division has set the ball in motionby setting out
guidelines on how to notify TB cases. The notification has to be done
by health providers, both in the private and public
sector,laboratories, hospitals/clinics/nursing homes.
All stakeholders, both public and private, are required to notify TB
cases when patients havebeen diagnosed or whenanti-TB treatment has
already been initiated. They are supposed to report the cases to the
nodal public health authority "at least on monthly basis," the
Division's FAQ notes. "All cases diagnosed/treated since April 7, 2012
may be notified," states the TB notification module ofNikshay. Nikshay
is an information communication technology (ICT) application developed
bythe government to specifically provide real time surveillance data
of TB cases.
Many options
The notification can be done through hard copy, email, mobile phones
(IVRS or SMS), or by uploading the information directly on to the
Nikshay portal ( http://nikshay.gov.in ). They can also get in touch
with the respectivenearest nodal officers ( http://tbcindia.nic.in )
to notify the cases.
To start with, all health establishments are required to first
register themselves with Nikshay to facilitate the entry of TB cases
notified by them. Notification covers pulmonary and extra-pulmonary TB
cases of all three patient types — new cases, recurrent TB cases (who
were successfully treated earlier), and those whosetreatment is being
changed (either due to failure of current regimen, or initiation of
new treatment regimen).Details of rifampicin resistance — resistant,
sensitive and data not available — are to be provided.
Aside from TB related details, stakeholders are required to provide
the patient's name, address, phone number and personal unique
identification number like driving licence or Aadhaar.
There is bound to be disagreement or resistance from private
practitioners and healthcare establishments in sharingpersonal details
of patients.
"As per MCI code of Ethics – Rules & regulations 2002…it is the duty
of theregistered medical to divulge this information to the authorized
notification official as regards communicable and notifiable
diseases," the FAQ states. "In case ofcommunicable/notifiablediseases,
concerned public health authorities should be informed immediately."
It also states that there are provisions to take punitive/legal action
against those who do notnotify TB cases.
Contentious issue
There is another contentious issue.
The FAQ makes it explicitly clear that the public health staff will
extend "support system for treatment initiation, adherence, follow-up,
default retrieval, and contact tracing" of patients even as they seek
medical care from those "outside" the national TB control programme.
It is true that private practitioners are ill equipped to ensure
"treatment adherence and follow up" of their patients and cannot
tracelost patients. But will all patients who approach private
practitioners like public health staff to come into the picture?
TB was made a notifiabledisease by the government in May this year.
The main intent is for ensuring proper diagnosis and care management,
to have in place a proper mechanism that will help in treatment
adherence (even by those who seek private care) and to "mitigate the
impending drug resistant TB epidemic."
"Complete and accurate data obtained from notification will allow
continuous evaluation of the trend of the disease with better
estimation ofburden/impact," the guidelines state.
The guidance and frequently asked questions (FAQs) on TB notification
have been sent to certain nodal TB institutions, and they in turn have
been asked to disseminate the information to all health care
providers.

The virtue of listening attentively to the Jumu’ah khutbah

* Friday Prayers - - - Will a man be rewarded for listening
attentively to the Jumu'ah khutbah?.
Praise be to Allaah.
Listening attentively to the khateeb on Friday is an obligation, and
it is not permissible for the Muslims to be careless about that and
fidget, talk or ignore the khutbah. The following ahaadeeth have been
narrated concerning the virtues of listening attentively to the
khutbah.
1 – Expiation for sins committed between this Friday and the previous Friday.
It was narrated from AbuHurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) said:
"Whoever does ghusl, then comes to Jumu'ah, and prays what is decreed
for him, then listens attentively until the khutbah is over, then
prays with him (theimam), will be forgiven (his sins) between that and
the next Jumu'ah, and three days more."
Narrated by Muslim (857); a similar report was narrated from Salmaan
al-Faarisi by al-Bukhaari (883).
2 – For every step he takes to the mosque, thereward of fasting and
praying qiyaam for one year will be recorded forhim.
It was narrated that Aws ibn Aws said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
"Whoever washes his head and his body (ghusl) on Friday, then sets out
early, is present at the beginning of the khutbah and is close (to the
imam), then listens attentively, for every step he takes he will have
the reward of fasting and praying qiyaam for one year."
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (496) who said: it is a hasan hadeeth. It was
classed as saheeh by al-Bayhaqi in al-Sunan al-Kubra (3/227) and by
al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.
3 – The reward for praying Jumu'ah depends on listening attentively.
It was narrated from AbuHurayrah that the Messenger of Allaah (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
"If you say to your companion, 'Listen attentively' on a Friday, when
the imam is delivering the khutbah, then you have engaged in idle
speech."
Narrated by al-Bukhaari (934) and Muslim (851).
4 – The one who listens attentively will have twokafl of reward.
'Ali ibn Abi Taalib delivered a khutbah in Kufah and said in his khutbah:
If a man sits in a place where he can hear and see (the imam) and
listens attentively and does not engage in idle speech or fidgeting,
he will have two shares of reward. If he stays far away and sits in a
place where he cannot hear but he listens attentively and does not
engage in idle speech or fidgeting, he will have one share of reward.
If he sits in a place where he can hearand see but he engages in idle
speech or fidgets and does not listen attentively, then he will have
one share of sin."
And at the end of that hesaid: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say that.
Narrated by Abu Dawood (1051) and classed as da'eef (weak) by
al-Albaani. A similar report was narrated from Abu Umaamah in a
marfoo' report in al-Mu'jam al-Kabeer (8/165) and in a mursal report
from Yahya ibn Abi Katheer in Musannaf 'Abd al-Razzaaq (3/223).

Giving the khutbah in the local language

* Friday Prayers - - - Can Khutba on fridays can be delivered in
regional languages. Or its a must that it should be in Arabic.

The Friday khutbah is an act of worship which should not be done in
the local language. But ifthere is no one present who speaks Arabic
well, then it is OK to say what the people present will understand. If
the people present do not understand Arabic then it is OK to translate
what they need to know for them after the prayer, orto explain to them
in their language what they need to know.

If you listen, even if you do not understand anything, you will be
doing something good, in sha Allah. Some of the scholars excused those
who do not understand the language of the khutbah and allowed them to
occupy themselves with dhikr orreading Qur'aan, subject to the
condition that they do not disturb others who are listening to the
khutbah. The viewwhich I favour, however,is that you should listen
even if you do not understand.

Sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) during Jumu’ah

* Friday Prayers - - - I know that when Prophet Muhammad's (salallahu
'alaihi wa salam)name is mentioned we say"Salallahu 'alaihi wa salam",
but I also know that during Jumu'ah we are not supposed to speak or we
lose our reward. If the Imam mentions Prophet Muhammad's (salallahu
'alaihi wa salam) name what is the best thing for us, as muslims? Are
we exempt from sendingpeace upon our beloved messenger at that time or
should we say it to ourselves?.

Imam Ahmad said: There is nothing wrong with sending blessings upon
the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), saying that
to oneself. Al-Mughni, 2/165 ff.
The Standing Committee said:
If the khateeb sends blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) then the listener should do likewise without
raising his voice.
Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa'imah, 8/217.
Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen said:
If the khateeb mentions the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him), then the listener should send blessings upon him silently,
so that he does not disturb the people around him.

Minimum number required for Jumu’ah prayer

In regard Jumu'ah prayers, what is the minimum number of people
required to pray in congregation behind the imam. I have heard
different opinions ion reference to this such as some brothers have
told me that a minimum of 40 people are required while others have
said 2.Adifferent source has also said that only 2 people can
constitute to a congregation for jumu'ah prayers. Can you please
clarify this question for me.

The Standing Committee for Issuing Fatwas was asked the following question:
What is the number of men required for Jumu'ah prayer to be valid?
Some people say that it is not valid with less than forty men, and if
there is one less than that, they should pray Zuhr.
Answer: Establishing Jumu'ah prayers is obligatory (waajib) upon the
Muslims in their villages on Fridays, and it is necessary for there to
be a jamaa'ah (congregation) in order for the Jumu'ah prayer to be
valid. There is no proven evidence (daleel)which states that a
specific number is required; for the prayer to be valid it is
sufficient for there to be three or more people. It is not permissible
for a person who is obliged to pray Jumu'ah to pray Zuhr in its place
when there are less than forty people present – according to the
correct scholarly view. And Allaah is the source of strength. May
Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions, and
grant them peace.

khateeb; some look straight ahead; some look at the ground; and some
close their eyes. Is there a specific Sunnah regarding this matter?
Praise be to Allaah.
It was narrated in a saheeh hadeeth that oneof the companions of the
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: when the
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) mounted the
minbar, we would turn our faces towards him.
(al-Silsilat al_Saheehah by al-Albaani, no. 2080)
It was narrated that Abaan ibn 'Abd-Allaah al-Bajili said: I saw
'Udayy ibn Thaabit turning to face the imaam when he stood todeliver
the khutbah. I said to him, I saw you turn your face towards the
imaam. He said, I saw the Companions of the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) doing that.
It was narrated that 'Abd-Allaah ibn Mas'ood said: when the Messenger
of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) mounted the
minbar, wewould turn our faces towards him him. This was narrated by
al-Tirmidhi, who said, in the same chapter there are reports narrated
from Ibn 'Umar and Muhammad ibn al-Fadl. According to the
scholarsamong the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him) and others, this is to be followed. They regard it
as mustahabb to turn to face the imaam when hedelivers the khutbah.
This is the view of Sufyaan al-Thawri, al-Shaafa'i, Ahmad and Ishaaq.
It was narrated that Yahyaa ibn Sa'eed al-Ansaari said: "The Sunnah
when the imaamsits on the minbar on Friday is for all the people to
turn their faces towards him."
It was narrated from Naafi' that Ibn 'Umar used to finish his tasbeeh
before the imaam came out; when he came out, he would turn to face him
before the imaam even sat down.
Al-Albaani (may Allaah have mercy on him) compiled these ahaadeeth in
al-Silsilat al-Saheehah, no. 2080, and commented on them.
It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with
him) said: "The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) sat on the minbar and we sat around him." (Narrated by
al-Bukhaari, 921)
Al-Bukhaari narrated thehadeeth in "Chapter: Theimaam facing the
people, and the people turning their faces towards the imaam when he
delivers the khutbah, and Ibn 'Umar and Anas (may Allaah be pleased
with them) turning their faces towards the imaam."
The point of the hadeethis that the fact that they sat around him to
listen to his words implies thatthey were looking at him in most
cases. This isnot affected by what was said earlier about the khateeb
standing during the khutbah, because this implies thathe used to speak
whilst he was sitting in a high place and they were sitting at a lower
point. If that was the case at times other than the khutbah, then it
is more appropriate to do that atthe time of the khutbah because there
is the command to listen to it attentively.
He said:
"One of the reasons for their turning their faces towards the imaam is
to facilitate their listening to his words, and to observe good
manners when listening to him. If a person turn his face towards him
with the proper physical posture and a focused mind, thatwill better
enable them to understand his preaching and is in accordance with the
reason why the khateeb is commanded to stand."

* Friday Prayers - - - Acts of worship which are prescribed on Fridays

I know that Friday has many virtues. Could you tell me some acts of
worship that I can do on this day?.
Praise be to Allaah.
Yes, Friday is a good day;there are many ahaadeeth which speak of its
virtues. See Question no. 9211 .
There are many acts of worship which are prescribed for the Muslim to
do on this day.These include:
1 – Salaat al-Jumu'ah (Friday prayer)
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"O you who believe (Muslims)! When the call is proclaimed for the
Salaah (prayer) on Friday (Jumu'ah prayer), come to the remembrance of
Allaah [Jumu'ah religious talk (Khutbah) and Salaah (prayer)] and
leave off business (and every other thing). That is better for you if
you did but know!"
[al-Jumu'ah 62:9]
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Zaad al-Ma'aad (1/376):
Friday prayer is one of the most important obligations in Islam, and
one of the greatest gatherings of the Muslims. Gathering on Friday is
more importantand more obligatory than any other gathering apart from
'Arafah. Whoever neglects it, Allaah will place a seal on his heart.
It was narrated from Abu'l-Ja'd al-Damari – who was a companion of the
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) – that the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever neglects
threeJumu'ahs, Allaah will place a seal on his heart."
Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1052; classed assaheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh
Abi Dawood, 928
It was narrated from 'Abd-Allaah ibn 'Umar and Abu Hurayrah that they
heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon
him) say on the minbar:
"Let people stop neglecting Jumu'ah, or Allaah will place a seal on
their hearts, then they will be among those who are neglectful."
Narrated by Muslim, 865.
2 – Making a lot of du'aa'.
On this day there is a time when a person's Lord will answer his
du'aa' – by Allaah's leave.
It was narrated from AbuHurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that
the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
mentioned Friday and said: "On this day there is a time when no Muslim
stands and prays,asking Allaah for something, but Allaah will grant
him it" – and he gestured with his hands to indicate how short that
time is.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari,893; Muslim, 852
3 – Reading Soorat al-Kahf.
It was narrated from AbuSa'eed al-Khduri that theProphet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf
on Friday, he willbe illuminated with lightbetween the two Fridays."
Narrated by al-Haakim; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh
al-Targheeb, 836
4 – Sending a lot of blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him).
It was narrated from Aws ibn Aws that the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) said: "The best of your days is Friday. On that
day Adam(peace be upon him) was created; on that dayhe died; on that
day the Trumpet will be blown; and on that day all of creation will
swoon. So send a great deal of blessings upon me, for your blessings
will be shown to me." They said,"O Messenger of Allaah, how will our
blessings upon you be shown to you when you have turned to dust?" He
said, "Allaah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the
Prophets, peace be uponthem."
Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1047; classed assaheeh by Ibn al-Qayyim in his
comments on Sunan Abi Dawood, 4/273; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani
in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 925.
He said in 'Awn al-Ma'bood:
Friday is singled out because it is the best of days and the chosen
day.So there is an advantageto sending blessings upon him on that day
that is not present on any other day.
Along with these virtues and acts of worship, the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade singling out Friday for
fasting, or singling out the night of Friday for doing acts of worship
that are not narrated in sharee'ah.
It was narrated from AbuHurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) said: "Do not single out the night of Friday
for qiyaam al-layl,and do not single out the day of Friday for
fasting, unless that is part of the habitual fasting of any one of
you."
(Narrated by Muslim, 1144).
Al-San'aani said in Subul al-Salaam:
This hadeeth indicates that it is haraam to single out the night of
Friday for worship or reading Qur'aan that is not one's regular
custom, apart from that which is indicated in thetexts, such as
reading Soorat al-Kahf.
Al-Nawawi said:
This hadeeth clearly states that it is forbiddento single out the
night ofFriday for prayer or the day of Friday for fasting. It is
agreed (among the scholars) that this is makrooh.
He also said:
The scholars said that the reason why it is forbidden to single out
Friday for fasting is that Friday is a day of du'aa', dhikr and
worship, such as ghusl, going early to the prayer, waiting for the
prayer, listening to the khutbah and recitinga lot of dhikr
afterwards,because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"Then when the (Jumu'ah) Salaah (prayer) is ended, you may disperse
through the land, and seek the Bounty of Allaah (by working), and
remember Allaah much"
[al-Jumu'ah 62:10]
And there are other acts of worship to be done on this day. So it is
preferable not to fast then, as this will help a person to perform
these duties in an energetic manner and enjoy them without feeling
bored ortired. This is like the pilgrim on the day of 'Arafah in
'Arafah, because the Sunnah is for him not to fast on that day for the
same reason… This is the reason for not allowing singling out Friday
for fasting. And it was said that the reason is so thatpeople will
not go to extremes in venerating it as happened in the case of
Saturday. But thisview is weak, because on that day we offer Jumu'ah
prayer and do other acts of worship which are a kind of veneration.
And it was said that the reason for its prohibition is so that people
would not think that this was obligatory. This is also a weak view
because it is encouragedto fast on Mondays and there was no fear that
anyone would think it was obligatory. No attention should be paidto
this far-fetched view. The same argument is applicable in the case of
fasting the day of 'Arafah and the day of 'Ashoora', etc. The correct
view is that which we have stated above.

The Gift of Health

Visiting the sick , assistingthem in any way, inquiring about them and
praying for them hasmany benefits, hence it isconsidered a great act
of worship.
It boosts the morale of the sick, making them feel much better, giving
them a sense of belonging which contributes to their recovery.
The psychological impact of a kind word, a prayer and a visit is so
great thatthe sick begin to feel much bet…ter and the greatest of
miracles can occur even after medicine has given up.
It also makes us realize the gift of health that theAlmighty has
bestowed upon us and gives us the opportunity to be thankful.
Taking care of the sick can result us being protected from such
sickness as well as easy entry into paradise.
The day WE fall ill, we willbe surprised at the number of people who
inquire about us, pray for us and visit us over and above those who
take care of us. This is what makes us one big family.
The genuine concern for one another is a vital component of a happy community.
When was the last time you visited the sick, assisted them in any
way,prayed for their cure or inquired about them? Make it a regular
feature in your weekly routine.
