*- WHAT ISLAM SAYS -* - Islam is a religion of Mercy, Peace and Blessing. Its teachings emphasize kind hear tedness, help, sympathy, forgiveness, sacrifice, love and care.Qur’an, the Shari’ah and the life of our beloved Prophet (SAW) mirrors this attribute, and it should be reflected in the conduct of a Momin.Islam appreciates those who are kind to their fellow being, and dislikes them who are hard hearted, curt, and hypocrite.Recall that historical moment, when Prophet (SAW) entered Makkah as a conqueror. There was before him a multitude of surrendered enemies, former oppressors and persecutors, who had evicted the Muslims from their homes, deprived them of their belongings, humiliated and intimidated Prophet (SAW) hatched schemes for his murder and tortured and killed his companions. But Prophet (SAW) displayed his usual magnanimity, generosity, and kind heartedness by forgiving all of them and declaring general amnesty...Subhanallah. May Allah help us tailor our life according to the teachings of Islam. (Aameen)./-

Personal, - Staying Steadfast in Turbulent Times

ShareShare

mentioned on more than one occasion in the Noble Quran and the Sunnah )Prophetic tradition(. Allaah The Exalted, enjoined the Muslims to be upright in their religion, praising the steadfast people and promising them generous rewards.
For instance, Allaah The Exalted Says )what means(:}So remain on a right course as you have been commanded, ]you[ and those who have turned back with you ]to Allaah[, and do not transgress. Indeed, He is Seeing of what you do.{]Quran 11:112[
Allaah The Exalted also Says )what means(:}Indeed, those who have said: "Our Lord is Allaah" and then remained on a right course – the angels will descend upon them, ]saying[, "Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised.{]Quran 41:30[
In addition, Sufyaan ibn ‘Abdullaah, may Allaah be pleased with him, once asked the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, to tell him some concise words about Islam so that he would not need to ask anyone else. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said:“Say, ‘I believe in Allaah and then hold on firmly to the straight path.’”
The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said:“)Try to( keep to the straight path although you will not be able to do so completely; and know that the best of your deeds is prayer, and only a )true( believer maintains his ablution.”
The meaning of uprightness:
Being upright in religion means adopting a moderate approach in showing obedience to Allaah The Almighty, abiding by His Sharee'ah )Islamic law( and remaining on the right path regarding His Oneness. Hence, being upright in religion means adhering to the orders of Allaah The Almighty in terms of His Oneness, devoting all acts of worship sincerely to Him only, as well as observing refined manners and the Islamic moral code in one's relationships with other people and in all one's deeds.
Uprightness is the path to salvation:
Scholars clarified that being upright in religion means being straightness; the Arabic word 'Mustaqeem' means straight, without any curves. Allaah The Almighty Says )what means(:}And, ]moreover[, this is My path, which is straight, so follow it; and do not follow ]other[ ways, for you will be separated from His way.{]Quran 6:153[
Uprightness and the allies of Allaah The Almighty:
Prominent scholars defined uprightness differently, yet all the definitions share the same meaning:
1- When Abu Bakr, may Allaah be pleased with him, was asked about uprightness, he answered, "It means not to associate partners with Allaah."
2- ‘Umar, may Allaah be pleased with him, defined it as follows, “To be upright in following the orders of Allaah The Exalted and avoiding the prohibitions and not to elude others like a fox."
3- ‘Uthmaan, may Allaah be pleased with him, said in this regard, "Uprightness means devotion to Allaah; offering all acts of worship with full sincerity to Allaah."
4- ‘Ali, may Allaah be pleased with him, defined uprightness as follows, ”It means carrying out the obligatory acts of worship”.
5- Al-Hasan Al-Basri, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said, “Upright people are those who adhere to the commands of Allaah The Exalted, follow His straight path, obey Him and shun disobedience."
6- jMuaahid, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said, "Upright people are those who adhere to the testimony that none is truly worthy of worship but Allaah until they die."
7- Ibn Zayd and Qataadah, may Allaah have mercy upon them both, said, "Uprightness means adhering to obedience of Allah The Exalted."
8- Sufyaan Ath-Thawri, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said that the upright person is the one whose deeds are in accordance with his words.
9- Ar-Rabee‘ ibn Khuthaym, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said, "Uprightness means turning away from everything and everyone but Allaah The Exalted."
10- Al-Fudhayl ibn ‘Iyaadh, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said, "Uprightness is disinterest in the mortal life, while seeking the immortal one."
11- Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said, "Uprightness means to hold fast to loving Allaah The Exalted and fulfilling the meaning of servitude to Him without turning away from Him."
12- Imaam Al-Harawi, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said, "Striving hard in following the commands of Allaah moderately.”
The fruits of uprightness:
1. Happiness in this life.
2. The descent of the angels of mercy on upright people.
3. The angels of mercy would bring them glad tidings in their graves that they will be granted firmness.
4. At the time of Resurrection.
5. Entering Paradise, the abode of dignity that will last forever; Allaah The Almighty Says )what means(:}No fatigue will touch them therein, nor from it will they ]ever[ be removed.{

Personal, - Methods of Secularists in Corrupting Muslim Women - IV

ShareShare

on Women in the Gulf and Arabia was held on 15/2/1976 in a Gulf country. The conference concentrated on the so-called "women’s liberation" and issued decisions that stressed the importance and necessity of looking into the educational books and curricula in their treatment of women’s issues in such a way that guarantees changing the "backward view of women’s role in the family and work". The study also says that the laws and systems to which the family was subjected to one thousand years ago still control family relations in the present time without considering the extent to which they are suitable for us.
What are the laws that were followed one thousand years ago? They are the Islamic Sharee‘ah )Islamic legislation(. These women from the Gulf wanted to change the Islamic Sharee‘ah that has been applied to women for one thousand years.
• Dispatching women abroad: This took place a lot in many Muslim countries in the past and is still taking place. When the Muslim women travel abroad, while they either have not studied anything about religion as in some Arab and Islamic countries, or they are not accompanied by Mahrams )non-marriageable men(, then they are thrown into that decadent society, and when they come back home, they are messengers of evil sent by the Western world to Westernize Muslim women and transfer them from adhering to Sharee‘ah and Islamic morals, to adhering to Western methods and opinions.
• The abuse of positions of authority: Some secularists may occupy certain positions of authority, then they issue decisions preventing women from wearing Hijaab )Islamic covering(, or imposing intermixing between men and women, or disallowing holding Islamic seminars and activities, or enforcing intermixing between the two sexes in certain fields. This consequently leads women to mix with men, a thing that makes it easy for such a thing to take place, because people lose sensitivity upon frequent interaction. After that, women transcend the barriers that are set by Sharee‘ah and turn away from leading a proper life and integrate ]in the Westernized life[ as others did.
• Work and employment: Either by employing men and women equally, or employing women in other than their fields. To that end, they follow a gradual approach that is slow but has a definite effect and by way of imposing a de facto situation.
• Participation and intermixing in health spas, recreation clubs, social clubs, and so on: Some women are perverted enough to smoke in the presence of their colleagues, not only in cafes and restaurants, but also inside offices.
• Inviting people to follow fashions, and flooding Muslim countries with obscene clothing: One of their schemes is to flood Muslim countries with obscene and short clothes. It is extremely difficult for parents to find loose cover-all garments for their daughters. Therefore, Muslim vendors should order and impose clothing that is acceptable to Muslims and which carry no images, writings, and are neither obscene aspects. The clothing should also not be tight or see-through. Manufacturing companies are after money, so they will make whatever clothing is asked of them. If they are not controlled in this regard, they will manufacture clothing that will damage the morals of Muslims.
• Establishment of women’s organizations, societies, and unions: The Women’s Union was first established in Egypt long ago by Huda Sha`raawi with flagrant Western support, then other Arab countries followed suit. Women’s unions, organizations, and societies apparently promote the spread of culture and reform, teaching women crafts like embroidery and sewing, but, on the inside, they may be extremely harmful, as they teach women decadent thoughts and values which take them from the light of Islamic thought to the darkness of polytheist Western thought.
• One of the most evil issues that are always raised by them in newspapers and magazines is their pretension of defending women’s rights, raising the issue of women’s liberation especially when the Ummah is facing sensitive times. Sometimes they discuss the subject of equality between men and women, mixed education, widening the prospect of participation in mixed work, and so on. They promote that in the name of religion or in the name of benefit, in obscure language. In many cases, the approach of the hypocrites is to shield themselves with vague and deceptive expressions.
• One of their most evil methods is waging a severe attack on Hijaab and women who observe it, and glorifying immorality in the mass media and elsewhere in forums and cultural and literary clubs, or in private sessions, and so on.
• Glorifying dissolute women from among actresses, dancers, and singers. They call them stars, celebrities, pioneers in such and such a field, and examples to be followed, and say that they have broken the record in such and such games or styles.
These secularist publications and secularist writings give Muslim women the false impression that this is the path they should trod, so they wish they were like such women and try to imitate them. This is why the attempts of secularists are foiled by repentant actresses who provide role models that counter what they aspire for.
• Promoting art, theater, and cinema.
• Another of their wicked and widespread methods is attracting brilliant Muslim girls to writing, acting, or broadcasting, particularly if such girls seek fame. Secularists invite Muslim girls to write in newspapers and acclaim their writings, so some conceited girls hasten to write and contact secularists to publish their writings.
• Training little girls in dancing, playing music, singing at schools, centers, and so on, and then showing them in the mass media: Little girls go out for dancing and singing, swaying in the most beautiful clothes and adornment. How will these girls be when they grow up? What will they head toward unless they are saved by the care and mercy of Allaah The Almighty?
They will attract other girls who wish to act like them because they appear as stars and may become famous singers or actresses in the future.
• Spreading a new spirit among Muslim women that transforms their character through establishing so-called physical therapy centers for women: The Da‘wah magazine, issue no.1328, published a report on these centers in 3/8/1412 AH. A female writer visited some of these centers, and said, “In light of the changes and developments that surface from time to time, a negative change has taken place, namely opening so-called physical therapy centers for women. In fact, these centers involve many negative aspects.” The writer continues, “To learn about the reality of these centers, what takes place inside them, and what they offer to their visitors, I visited some of them and contacted others as any woman who enquires about a given center before joining it, in an attempt to obtain the full facts and know what takes place inside them. Following is the summary of the report:
- The spread of revealing clothes inside these centers. This is even obligatory.
- Some centers employ male physicians whom girls under training have to be checked by.
- There is music in these centers, and some centers stipulate that members do not object to music.
- Allocating collective sauna baths where women are only wearing their underwear and gather there.
- Spreading these centers even in hotels, beauty salons, workshops, and providing them as a service.
This is a new thing that was unknown to us before. If women do their work at home, they will not be in need of that.
• In conclusion, secularists adopt a dangerous method, which is spreading mixed parks and restaurants for families: Some brothers visited some of these family restaurants and parks which include many prohibitions. Shaykh Muhammad Al-Farraaj was among the visitors who wrote a report where they explained the hidden aspects of such mixed restaurants. They mentioned that young men and women mix there, women enter such restaurants unaccompanied by Mahrams, and a man is allowed to enter provided that he is accompanied by a women whether she is a maid or a little girl or otherwise. These places, therefore, became a suitable environment for dating and other purposes. Afterwards, Shaykh ‘Abdullaah ibn Jibreen wrote in support of what those brothers wrote, saying, “All perfect praise is due to Allaah. I saw examples of what is mentioned in this report, the thing that alerted us to hasten to forbid access )to such places( and warn against doing so.”
Such parks and restaurants might have been established with a good intention, but they are an important reason behind Westernizing Muslim women. This is because they spread the aspects of Westernization including intermixing between the two sexes and having men and women meeting each other in seclusion , thus, opening the door for committing indecency and entering upon honorable women, who will consequently be tempted in their religion and chastity in the light of the overwhelming motives for immorality due to the abundance of stimulation available. Personal, - Methods of Secularists in Corrupting Muslim Women - III

ShareShare

Muslims must bear in mind some of the most dangerous methods adopted by secularists so that they will be aware of them, denounce them, and try to frustrate them. They include:
• All kinds of mass media including press publications, broadcasting, television, movies, and magazines that are specialized in fashion, women’s issues, and the like. Mass media form opinions, adapt intellects, and direct public opinion, especially if such intellects are void and not fortified by divine revelation. Reprehensive matters are found in newspapers and magazines, such as the cover girl, a beautiful girl who is shown in adornment and make up.
When interviewed, she is asked trivial questions, such as: Have you ever been in love before? What is your favorite hobby? Have you had a boyfriend? Similar obscene questions are put to them that are meant to corrupt pure young women who are settled in their homes and possess modesty which they were brought up to observe. Such magazines remove the barriers and standards step by step. Also, obscene images are found in such magazines under the pretext of showing beauty, fitness, weight loss, diet, beauty queens or other pretexts dictated by the devil. They also include an large number of topics about love and courtship with the objective of facilitating indecency, reversing established concepts, and replacing them with strange concepts alien to the knowledge of Muslims.
In a wonderful Khutbah )sermon( about such magazines, the eminent scholar, Shaykh Muhammad Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said, “It is unlawful to own such magazines, buy them, sell them, earn from them, give them as a gift, or accept them as a gift. It is also unlawful to help circulate such magazines among Muslims because this constitutes cooperation in sin and aggression.”
• One of the dangerous methods used by secularists to Westernize Muslim women is their corruption of education. To that end, they introduce fields of specialization that are unsuitable for women, and this consequently leads to the graduation of large numbers of women who have no work domain. This creates the need for opening domains that are suitable with the new specializations that are filled with women, or approving educational curricula that are far removed from what should be available for educating Muslim women. In some Arab countries, the educational curricula are terrible. Education may include a call for equality between women and men in everything, urging women to promote issues of what they call the liberation of women. There is also mixed education in most Muslim countries where girls sit next to boys. Mixed education is a major reason behind the degradation and consequent Westernization of women. Therefore, the best solution is that Muslim countries establish women-only universities. This has been called for by a Pakistani researcher in a fine study where he explained that establishing women-only universities is better for the rate of success, for mastering a given field of specialization, and perfection of work for both young men and young women in all types of study. We may not agree with him on some specializations that we think that women do not need.
• Authoring on the subject of women and conducting researches and studies that are filled with recommendations, suggestions, and alleged solutions for women’s issues and problems.
UNESCO published seven social studies on women in the Arab world. Anyone who reads these studies will realize the seriousness of this matter and the massive schemes weaved by the enemies against Muslim women.
• Holding women’s conferences or conferences that deal with women’s issues, or holding meetings that deal with matters concerned with women such as education, pedagogy, and so on. In such conferences and meetings, Westernizing studies, ideas, and suggestions are raised.
The fourth Regional Conference on Women in the Gulf and Arabia was held on 15/2/1976 in a Gulf country. The conference concentrated on the so-called women’s liberation and issued decisions that included the following: They stressed the importance and necessity of looking into the educational books and curricula in their treatment of women’s issues in such a way that guarantees changing the backward view of women’s role in the family and work. The study also says that the laws and systems to which the family was subjected to one thousand years ago still control family relations in the present time without considering the extent to which they are suitable for us.
What are the laws that were followed one thousand years ago? They are the Islamic Sharee‘ah. These women from the Gulf wanted to change the Islamic Sharee‘ah that has been applied to women for one thousand years.
• One of their methods of Westernizing Muslim women is that secularists dispatch them abroad. This took place a lot in many Muslim countries. • Undisciplined work and employment: Either by employing men and women equally, or employing women in other than their fields. To that end, they follow a gradual approach that is slow but has a definite effect and by way of imposing a de facto situation.

Dought & clear, - Fasting on his birthday and on the birthday of theProphet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)

ShareShare

Is it permissible to fast on the birthday of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) on the basis of the hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim, al-Nasaa’i and Abu Dawood, which says that when he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was asked about fasting on Mondays, he said: “That is the day on which I was born…”
Also on the basis of this hadeeth, is it permissible for a person to fast on the day on which he was born, following thereby the example of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)? Please explain.
Praise be to Allaah.
Firstly:
Muslim (1162) narrated from Abu Qataadah al-Ansaari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was asked about fasting on Mondays and he said: “On (that day) I was born and on it Revelation came down to me.”
Al-Tirmidhi (747) narrated, in a hadeeth that he classed as hasan, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Deeds are presented (to Allah) on Monday and Thursday and I like my deeds to be presented when I am fasting.”
Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani inSaheeh al-Tirmidhi.
From the saheeh hadeeths quoted above, it is clear that just as the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) fasted on Mondays out of gratitude for the blessing of his birth on this day, he also fasted it because of its virtue, because the Revelation came down to him on that day, and on that day deeds are presented to Allah. So he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) liked his deeds to be taken up when he was fasting. The fact that he was born on that day was one of several reasons for fasting that day.
If a person fasts on Mondays, as the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) did, hoping for forgiveness on that day, out of gratitude for the blessings that Allah bestowed upon His slaves on the day – the greatest of which blessings is the birth of His Prophet and His sending him – and hoping to be among the people who are forgiven on that day, then this is something good and is in accordance with what is proven of the Sunnah of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). But he should not single out one week for that to the exclusion of others, or one month to the exclusion of others. Rather he should do that as much as he can on a permanent basis.
With regard to singling out one day of the year for fasting it, in celebration of the birth of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), this is an innovation (bid‘ah) that is contrary to the Sunnah of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) fasted on Mondays, and no other day, but from year to the next, his birthday may come on that day or any other day of the week.
For more information on the ruling on celebrating the Prophet’s birthday (Mawlid), please see the answer to questions no. 13810and 70317.
Secondly:
What is widespread among people nowadays of celebrating birthdays is an innovation that is not prescribed in Islam. The Muslims do not have any special days that they celebrate apart from the two Eids, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
This has been discussed before in several answers; please see no. 26804and 9485.
Moreover, what comparison can there be between the birth of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), which is indeed a blessing and a mercy for all of mankind as Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):“And We have sent you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) not but as a mercy for the ‘Aalameen (mankind, jinn and all that exists)” [al-Anbiya’ 21:107]and a harbinger of good for all mankind, and the birth or death of any other human being? Moreover, what would that attitude of his Companions, and the righteous who came after them, be towards such an action?
It is not known that any of the salaf or early scholars said that it is prescribed to fast on any particular day of the week or the month or the year, and regard that day as a “festival” because the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) used to fast on the day of his birth every week, which was a Monday. If that was prescribed, the people of knowledge and virtue of the early generations who hastened to do all that is good would have hastened to do it before us. As they did not do that, it is known that this is something that is innovated and it is not permissible to do it.

Dought & clear, - A Christian woman asks about the Prophet’s birthday and what it means to the Muslims

ShareShare

What is the significance of the Prophet's Birthday and when and how is it celebrated?
Praise be to Allaah.
Firstly, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is the Messenger of Allaah to all of mankind, the one through whom Allaah leads people from darkness into light, from misguidance to guidance. Please see question no. 11575. Perhaps this question is the start of your research into the religion of Islam and your attempt to learn more and read widely about it. Try to find a translation of the meanings of the Qur’aan so that you can learn more about this pure monotheistic religion. No doubt our joy will be multiplied if you become our sister in Islam by entering this religion.
Secondly, acts of worship in Islam are based on an important principle, which is that no one is permitted to worship Allaah in any way except that which Allaah has prescribed in his Book or which was taught by His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Whoever worships Allaah by doing something that Allaah and His Messenger have not enjoined, Allaah will not accept that from him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us of that, as it was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘Whoever innovates something in this matter of ours [i.e., Islam] that is not part of it will have it rejected.’” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari,Kitaab al-Sulh, 2499).
Acts of worship include festivals. Allaah has prescribed two festivals or Eids for us to celebrate, and it is not permissible for us to celebrate any others. (Please see question no. 486).
With regard to celebrating the day on which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was born, it should be noted that he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not tell us to celebrate this day, and he himself (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not celebrate it, nor did his companions (may Allaah be pleased with them). They loved the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) far more than we do, yet despite that they did not celebrate this day. Hence we do not celebrate this day, in obedience to the command of Allaah Who has commanded us to follow the commands of His Prophet. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad) gives you, take it; and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it)” [al-Hashr 59:7]
And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I urge you to adhere to my Sunnah [way] and the way of the Rightly-Guided khaleefahs. Adhere to it and cling tightly to it. And beware of newly-invented matters [in religion], for every newly-invented matter is an innovation and every innovation is a going-astray.” (Narrated by Abu Dawood,al-Sunnah, 3991; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani inSaheeh Abi Dawood, no. 3851).
The extent to which a person loves the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is to be seen in how he follows him with regard to all that he commanded or forbade. That includes following him in not celebrating the day on which he was born. See question no. 5219, 10070.
Whoever wants to venerate the day on which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was born should follow the alternative that is based on Islamic evidence, which is that one should fast on Mondays, not just the day that he was born but every Monday.
It was narrated from Abu Qutaadah al-Ansaari (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was asked about fasting on Mondays. He said, “On that day I was born and on that day the Revelation came to me.” (Narrated by Muslim, 1978). On Thursdays deeds are taken up and shown to Allaah.
Conclusion: celebrating the Prophet’s birthday was not prescribed by Allaah or by the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), so it is not permissible for the Muslims to celebrate his birthday, in obedience to the command of Allaah and the command of His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).
We ask Allaah to guide you to the Straight Path.
And Allaah knows best.

Dought & clear, - Ruling on accepting gifts and food such as sweets on her birthday from her family who celebrate it

ShareShare

Praise be to Allah, I do not celebrate my birthday but if I am given a gift on my birthday, what should I do? Should I accept it or refuse it?
Please note that my friend may get upset with me if I do not accept her gift.
Usually my family celebrates on such occasions by making sweets. What should I do? Is it permissible for me to eat from them?
What if I am given a gift one day after my birthday, and I know that it was bought because of this occasion and for no other reason? Is it permissible for me to accept it?.
Praise be to Allaah.
Celebrating a person’s birthday and taking it as an “eid” or festival that comes every year is an innovation and imitation of the kuffaar. Hence it is haraam to celebrate it whether that is done as an act of worship or as a custom and tradition.
You have done well by not celebrating it, and we ask Allah to reward you with good for that.
If your family celebrates that, then you have to do two things:
1. Offer them sincere advice and explain that this is something that is not allowed in our religion.
2. Do not take part in the celebrations and avoid doing anything that could be understood as approval.
These guidelines will help you with regard to gifts that are given to you and with regard to eating food or sweets that are made on these occasions.
The basic principle is that you should not accept any kind of gifts that come on such occasions, whether they are given to you on the same day or afterwards, because accepting them implies approval of the occasion and helps to perpetuate it. So you should excuse yourself from accepting them, with the best of manners. If you are afraid that it will spoil the relationship between you and your friend, then explain to her that you are accepting this gift because of her friendship, not because of this innovation, and explain to her that you will not accept that in the future and you will not give her a gift on her birthday.
With regard to food or sweets that are made for this occasion, you should definitely avoid them, because making and eating them are part of the celebration; not eating it means that you are clearly objecting to this innovation, and that may be a cause of their giving it up.
And Allah knows best.
