the Farewell Pilgrimage:

Fellow Muslims! Each time the month of Dhul-Hijjah approaches, a page
in Islaamic History glitters and a stance of the Messenger of Allaah
comes to limelight.
Among the major landmarks of Hajj are thosecomprehensive principles
that the Prophet announced in his sermon during the Farewell
Pilgrimage. The Prophet proclaimed these concepts that were far from
mere slogans but formed part of his call right from the onsetof his
mission and it was never change nor altered by any circumstances. He
impressed these principles in the hearts of his companions in order
that they could convey them to the mankind, and those principles were
made to survive many generations because of their veracity and
efficiency.
In that historical sermon, the Messenger of Allaah warned against
associatingany partner to Allaah in worship which is a disease that
has almost destroyed the humanity, nearly severed man's relationship
with the source of his goodand his very existence and dragged him into
the abyssof whimsical desires. So, the fundamental meaning upon which
the rules of Hajj as well as the rules of acts of worship revolve is
Oneness of Allaah. Islaam isa religion of Monotheism and the House of
Allaah was specifically built for the purpose of worshipping Allaah
alone. He says in His Glorious Book,
"And (remember) when We showed Ibraaheem the site of the (Sacred)
House (the Kaabah at Makkah, saying): 'Associate not anything in
worship with Me and sanctify My House for those who circumambulate it
and those who stand up for (prayers) and those who bow (submit
themselves with humility and obedience to Allaah) and make prostration
(in prayer)." (Al-Hajj 22:26)
Hajj is but a manifestation of Oneness of Allaah in its brightest form
and the Muslim nation has never been in need of re-establishing the
essentials of faith as they are during Hajj. There are some people
among the Muslims who have bargained the pure faith of Islaam with
erroneous ideologies, there are some who spread the poison of atheism
with their pens; there are some who have conferred some Divine
attributes on their leaders who claim to know the hidden things and
receive revelations from heaven and there are some who have introduced
the idolization of individuals, exempted some people from religious
obligations and taken men as intermediaries between themselves and
Allaah; not to mention those who worship saints, build domes on
graves, circumambulate round them, invoke their owners and slaughter
for them, thereby causing proliferation of mausoleums and sects.
In the Farewell Pilgrimage, the Messenger of Allaah said,
"It is unlawful for you to shed the blood of one another, to take
unlawfullythe properties of one another or to violate the honour of
one another. They are as unlawful as shedding blood on such a day as
today, in such a month as this and in such asanctified city as this
(Makkah)." (Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim).
These are everlasting basics for fundamental human rights which are
unequalled by any man-made system or statute. In protecting human
life....

We Get What We Give

We get what we give. This is one of the laws of the dunya (this
earthly life) andal-ghayb (the unseen) as well. When we give moneyto
the poor and oppressed, God rewards us with more than we can imagine.
When we share truth, greater truths are revealed to us. When we teach,
we learn. When we show mercy, our Creator has mercy on us. When we
smile, people smile back.
The same is true for love. When we give love, love comes into our lives.
Some people think, "I will open up my love when I meet someone who
loves me truly." Sorry, it doesn't work that way. It's only when we
open up the gates and let our love flow, that loves comes rushing in/

They think that everything happens spontaneously, or that they acquire the things they possess through theirown efforts and endeavors.

They think that everything happens spontaneously, or that they acquire the things they possess through theirown efforts and endeavors. This is both a grave error and also terrible ingratitude toward Allah. These people, who are ignorant even of how to thank someone who gives them a small gift, spend their whole lives blind to the countless blessings that Allah bestows on them. But the fact is that the blessings bestowed by Allah are more numerous than can ever be counted. Allah reveals this in a verse in the Qur’an:
If you tried to number Allah’s blessings, you could never count them. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surat an-Nahl, 18)
Being Numbered amongThose Who Give Thanks to Allah Is a Characteristic of Believers
Various blessings that people must give thanks to Allah for are revealed inthe Qur’an, and they are reminded to give thanks time and time again. These blessings include the way human beings arecreated with a regular form, their being endowedwith the senses of sight and hearing, Allah's teaching the True Religion to them, His revelation of verses, His purification andcleansing of believers, His forgiving their sins when they repent, His making worship easy, His grantingvictory over unbelievers, believers being rescued from the oppression of theunbelievers, His settling human beings on Earth and giving them the means by which to live, the creation of water to drink, the products of the soil, animals being placed at human beings’ service and disposal, the fruits of the sea, adornments, the ships on the seas and the creation of night an
d day. As revealed in verse 18 of Surat al-Nahl, " If you tried to number Allah’s blessings, you could never count them. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful,” it is impossible to count even the different classes of Allah’s blessings, let alone those blessings one by one.
Giving thanks for a blessing means expressingone’s happiness and gratitude and appreciatingthe value of the blessing bestowed.
Giving thanks to Allah, on the other hand, is the expression of that gratitude in one’s heart and words, knowing that all blessings belong to Himand that all things come from Him alone.

Satan’s Manipulation of the Christians:

It is obvious to anyone with reason that Satan has greatly manipulated these misled people (Christians). He called them and they responded to him; he befooled them and they obeyed him.
He manipulated them with regards to Allah, the Exalted and Most High.
He manipulated them with regards to Jesus (peace be upon him).
He manipulated them with regards to the cross and the worship of it.
He also manipulated them with regards to making pictures and statues in churches and then worshipping them, so you will not find one of their churches without the picture of Mary and Jesus, saints and other holy individuals and martyrs of theirs. Most of them prostrate to pictures and statues, and pray to them instead to Allah the Most High…
The typical example of what these polytheists are doing is like that of a servant of a king who entered upon a man, so theman jumped from his place, prostrated to the servant, worshipped him, and did to him what he was not supposed to do except to the king. Every rational person would consider him an ignorant and a fool because of what he did, since he did to the king's servant what he wassupposed to do only to the king, in terms of honoring, humbleness and humility.
It is well-known that what the servant did here is more likely to cause the king to hate him and look down upon him than to honor him and exalt his status.
This is the situation of one who prostrates to creation,or a picture of creation. This is because he resorted to prostration which is the greatest means of reachingthe Lord's pleasure. Such anaction is not valid except for Allah, so there is no greater repulsiveness or injustice than doing it for a picture or statue of a servant and equalizing between Allah and His servant.
This is why Allah the Most High said,
"Verily, shirk (polytheism, setting up partners with Allah) is a great injustice." [Luqman: 33]
Allah the Most High has created his worshippers prone to recognize uglinessin expressing exaltation, glorification, sumbisivenessand humility towards king's slaves and servants (as such actions are usually done for the king).
So what is the situation of the one who shows this type of reverence to king's enemies? For Satan is the enemy of Allah, and the polytheist is in reality setting Satan, not Allah's prophets and righteous servants¸ as a partner with Allah. For the prophets and righteous servants have nothing to do with those who set them as partners with Allah; they are againstthem and the strongest in hatred of all people towards them. The polytheists, therefore, are only setting up as partners with Allah His enemies, andequalizing between them and Allah in worship, exaltation, prostration and humility.
This is why the invalidity and ugliness of polytheism is recognized by sound innate nature and reason, and this type of ugliness is recognized more clearly than its other types.
The intent here was to mention Satan's manipulation of these people in both the foundation and branches oftheir religion.

Allah will always reward those who give thanks:

Why should Allah punishyou if you are thankful and believe? Allah is
All-Thankful, All-Knowing. (Surat an-Nisa', 147)
Allah's signs and the wisdom in His proofs may only be fully
understood thanks to the understanding and sensitivity possessed by
those who give much thanks. But ungrateful andinsensitive people
cannot understand the wisdom inAllah's signs, and may not even be
aware of their existence.

Allah also advised the prophets to be grateful. For example, in the Qur’an He tells the Prophet Moses(pbuh):

He [Allah] said, 'Moses, I have chosen you over allmankind for My
Messageand My Word. Take whatI have given you and be among the
thankful.' (Surat al-A'raf, 144)
Many verses of the Qur'an reveal how the Messengers were people who
gave much thanks to Allah.
Verse 15 of Surat al-Ahqaf shows the importance of giving thanks and
asking to be grateful in the face of Allah's blessings in the prayer a
believer makes when he reaches the age of 40:
We have instructed man to be good to his parents. His mother borehim
with difficulty and with difficulty gave birthto him; and his bearing
and weaning take thirty months. Then when he achieves his full
strengthand reaches forty, he says, 'My Lord, keep me thankful for the
blessing You bestowed on me and on my parents, and keep me acting
rightly, pleasing You. And make my descendants pious. I have sought
forgiveness of You and I am truly oneof the Muslims.' (Surat al-Ahqaf,
15)

An introduction to Ayurveda

An alternative system of medicine, Ayurveda uses a combination of
herbal medicines, specialised diets and massage to treatthe root cause
of a disease, and restore balance inside the body.
Origins of Ayurveda
Ayurveda as we all know had its origin in India. One of the oldest
medical systems in the world, it is categorised as an alternative
therapy. This system of medicine is a combination of herbal medicines,
specialised diets and massage.
The term Ayurveda is derived from two Sanskrit words 'ayur', meaning
life and 'veda', meaning science. Thus Ayurveda means 'the science of
life'.
Ayurveda expert Dr Amogh Deshpande says, "Ayurveda aims to treat the
root cause of the disease." To achieve this, this system of medicine
works in rebalancing the body. Ayurveda, stresses Dr Deshpande, works
in attune with nature. For instance, Ayurveda prescribes eating in
accordance with the season.
Key insights into Ayurveda
*. Ayurvedic medicine aimsto integrate and bring about equilibrium in
the body, mind and spirit. Inner balance and harmony is believed to
prevent illness and promote overall wellness.
*. This ancient system of medicine uses many techniques to cleanse the
body and reinstatingbalance in the body, mind and spirit. Also note,
if these techniques and medicines aren't used as directed by the
practitioner it can have side effects. Which is why — your diet,
everyday routine and all — play an important role when you're taking
Ayurvedic medicine.
"It is believed that Lord Dhanawantri (the primordial God of health in
ancient India) is the creator of Ayurveda," says Dr Deshpande. "
Charaka Samhita , Sushruta Samhita and Wagbhata Samhita are the three
main texts ofAyurveda."
The vast information in these texts is divided into eight branches.
*. Internal medicine
*. Surgery
*. Treatment of head and neck disease
*. Gynaecology, obstetrics, and paediatrics
*. Toxicology
*. Psychiatry
*. Care of the elderly and rejuvenation
*. Sexual vitality
Fundamental concepts of Ayurveda
Ayurvedic medicine rests on the premise of universal
interconnectedness, its treatment is tailored as per an individual's
body constitution, referred to as prakriti in Ayurveda and life
forces, called doshas .
Body constitution ( prakriti )
Ayurveda has its own takeon the body's constitution.Body constitution
refers toan individual's general health, likelihood of the body going
out of balance and an individual's ability to fight infections and
recover from health ailments.
It refers to each individual's physical and psychological aspects and
the way his/her body functions to maintain health. It is believed that
an individual's prakriti remains unchanged in a lifetime.
Life forces ( doshas )
Life forces or energy (doshas) are aspects of an individual's body
constitution that control the body's activities. Ayurveda categorises
bodytypes into three doshas : vata , pitta and kapha .
*. Each dosha is made up oftwo of five basic elements: ether, air,
fire, water and earth.
*. Each dosha has a specific relationship with the body's functions
and can be out of sync due to several reasons.
*. Each individual has a unique combination of these three doshas ,
although one is likely to be dominant. Doshas are continuously being
altered by food, activity and body functions.
*. An imbalance of dosha will produce symptoms specific to that
particular dosha . This imbalance can be a result of unhealthy
lifestyle, diet, levels of mental and physical exertion, seasons, an
individual's age.
The three doshas in Ayurveda:
Vata dosha: This one combines elements of ether and air. It is
considered to be the most powerful dosha and controls fundamental body
processes like cell division, breathing, waste discharge, the heart
and mind. In people with 'vata'as the dominant dosha areknown to be
particularly vulnerable to skin conditions, rheumatoid arthritis,
heart disease, anxiety, insomnia and neurological conditions.

"The scholars of evil sit at the doors of Jannah (Circlesof I'lm)

Poor neck posture leads to a Forward Head Position, which is one of the most common causes of neck

~WATCH YOUR POSTURE~
(this is true)
For every inch that the head moves forward in posture, it increases
the weight of the head in the neck by 10 pounds !!
... Poor neck posture leads to a Forward Head Position, which is one
of the most common causes of neck, head and shoulder tension and pain.
This can be a result of injuries like sprains, and strains of the neck
leading to weak neck muscles, poor sleeping positions and the
illustrated examples of driving stress, computer neck, couch neck and
readers neck along with improper breathing habits.
The extra pressure on the neck from altered posture flattens the
normal curve of the cervical spine resulting in abnormal strain of
muscles, ligaments, bones and joint of the neck causing the joints to
deteriorate faster than normal resulting in degenerative joint disease
or neck arthritis.

No one else can defineyour reality:

"Someone's opinion ofyou does not have to become your reality."
- Les Brown, author and motivational speaker.
Don't blindly accept other people's negative judgments of you. Reject
their pessimism. Be strong, know yourself, and know that no one else
can define you. Other people's insults may hurt, but they don't define
you. Some people love to say "no", to tell youwhat you cannot do, to
tellyou why your dreams are impossible or impractical, to tell you
what a fool you are, to tell you not to bother trying. Such people
claim to be pragmatists and realists.
In reality, such people are poison. It is their opinions that are not
based in reality. It's their opinions that are founded in cowardice
and cynicism. Their opinions are inherently self-limiting. They have
locked themselves into prisons of the mind. They have taken the ships
of their dreams and smashed holes in the hulls before ever setting
sail. Because they have given up on their dreams, they want you to do
the same.
Either that, or they look at you and they see a bundle of
preconceptions. They seea stereotyped image created in their own
minds, someone who to them is the "wrong" race, or the "wrong"
religion, or has the "wrong" qualifications, and based on that they
willtry to tell you what's "wrong" with you, and to set roadblocks in
your path.
Don't let them define you. Don't let them tell you whoyou are, or what
you can orcannot do.
Mistakes and Appearances Do Not Define You
You are much more than just the sum of the mistakes you've made. Your
past mistakes are not brands of shame, but teachers, stimuli to change
and do better.
You also cannot be judged by the superficial circumstances of your
life: your nationality, race, age, the language you speak, your
favorite foods or colors, your birth date, your height or weight,
whether your lips are narrow or full, whether your hair is lustrous or
thin, whether you have six-pack abs or love handles. These things do
not define you.
For you pop culture fans out there, there's a scene inThe Matrix where
Neo is riding in a car, gazing out at the city, at all the places he
used to know. He says, "I used to eat there. Really good noodles. I
have these memories from my life. None of them happened. What does
that mean?" And Trinity replies, "That the matrix cannot tell you who
you are."
Free Your Soul
So what truly defines you? Two things: your beliefs, and your
character. What you believe, and how thosebeliefs manifest in the way
you act in the world, the way you respect yourself, the way you
maintain yourintegrity no matter what, the compassion and love that
you show to those lessfortunate, your courage, your talents, your
beautifuldreams. Your faith and modesty, sincerity, friendliness, work
ethic, hospitality, willingness to forgive.
These are the things that truly define a human being. No one can
dictate them to you, no one can give them or take them away. Only
Allah can guide you, and only you can choose what to do with that
guidance.
Abu Malik Al-Harith bin Asim Al-Ashari said that theMessenger of Allah
(peace be upon him) said:
"Purity is half of faith. Alhamdu-lillah [Praise be to Allah] fills
the scales, and Subhana-Allah [How far is Allah from every
imperfection] and Alhamdu-lillah [Praise be to Allah] fill that which
is between heaven and earth. Prayer is light; charity is a proof;
patience is illumination; and the Quran is an argument for or against
you. Everyone starts his day and is a vendor of hissoul, either
freeing it or bringing about its ruin."
You are the vendor of your own soul. You set your soulfree, so that
your spirit rises like the sun; or you ruin it, debasing yourself. You
shape your own character. You define yourself. No one else can tell
you who you are. No one else has the right.

Do Not Live Without a Vision:

Many people think that they have a vision but in reality they have
nothing. Countless brothers and sisters consult me regarding key
decisions in their life. My answer has always been and continuesto be,
'if you had a clear vision of what you want tobe or what you want to
do,you would not ask such questions!'
One key quality of any successful person is to live for a mission.
Unsuccessful people live from one day to the next. They are not
inspired by something virtuous not living for a noble goal and
therefore they do not live a noble life. Islam, being a religion of
nobility, does not want people to live in this way. Allah encourages
people tocompete for the best possible afterlife and be inspired all
of the time. In the Qur'an we read,
"Race one with another in hastening towards Forgiveness from your Lord
(Allah), and towards Paradise, the width whereof is as the width of
heaven and earth, prepared for those who believe in Allah and His
Messengers. That is the Grace of Allah which He bestows on whom He
pleases. And Allah is the Owner of Great Bounty." [1]
Such people are dedicated to achieve what they want and look for all
possible means to facilitate such achievements for themselves. Having
vision is paramount to the success of a person. In his book The seven
Habits of Highly Successful People, Stephen Covey considered
"beginning with the end in mind" as the second habit of such
successful people. In fact, we easily see that when Allah desired to
senda prophet, he would prepare him to be a specialperson with high
ambition. He inspired him from an early age to become a leader and set
out a vision for him. Our Prophet was raised a poor orphan - this
situation tends to set a ceiling for what a person might aim for,
however Allah decreed that his grandfather would look after him. His
grandfather, Abdu'l-Muttalib, was the chief of the Quraish tribe which
was the most dignified tribe in the world.Hence, the Prophet tasted
the life of dignified leaders.Furthermore, his grandfather used to
love him so much that the Prophet had the privilege to do what others
could not do. For example, his grandfather would sit on a mat that no
one else was allowed to sit on except the young Muhammad. Throughout
his teenage years he was not involved in the many indecent activities
others his age were. He was inspired to be different. Similarly,
Prophet Yusuf was inspiredto think big and be ready for greatness.
Allah says,
"(Remember) when Yusuf(Joseph) said to his father: "O my father!
Verily, I saw (in a dream) eleven stars and the sun and the moon, I
saw them prostrating themselves to me." [2]
Moses was also inspired from a very young age as he was raised up in
the Pharaoh's house even though he was from the Children of Israel
whom the Pharoah wanted to subjugate and destroy.
There is no doubt that life takes on a different meaning once a person
sets out a vision for him/herself and works towards it. On the other
hand it is boring and devastating when a personlives for nothing of
substantial value.
Many people think that they have a vision but in reality they have
nothing. Countless brothers and sisters consult me regarding key
decisions in their life. My answer has always been and continuesto be,
'if you had a clear vision of what you want tobe or what you want to
do,you would not ask such questions!' Some brothers and sisters may
say that they want to worship Allahor they want to go to paradise.
This is good, but the key question is how? Moreover, Paradise is of
different levels, which levelare you aiming for? The reality is many
people do not have a vision. In order to set out a vision for yourself
simply put yourself in the shoes of your father, what does he do now
after being retired and do you want to follow the same routine?
A vision that does not materialise
I am sure that at this point many people will ask the following
question: what about a vision that I failed to achieve due to 'out of
hand' circumstances? Failing to achieve it is likelyto demotivate a
person and might lead to negativeconsequences. However, this is not
true if the person follows an Islamic way of setting out his vision.
Abu Kabshah al-Anmaari, a Companion of the Prophet (may Allah be
pleased withhim), stated that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying:
"Four people are making the most of this world: a man to whom Allah
gives wealth and knowledge,....

Qualities of Aisha(r.a) and herrole in Islam:

In any discussion on the age of Aisha (ra: may Allah be pleased with
her) at the time of her marriage with the Holy Prophet Muhammad (may
peace and the blessings of Allah be upon him), it is of the greatest
relevance to note the pivotal role she played as a teacher, exponent
and interpreter of the religion of Islam. Aisha was an exceptionally
intelligent and astute woman, a young prodigy, and this was the main
reason why she was got married to theHoly Prophet, as is clearly
proved by events after the Holy Prophet's life. She entered his
household, shortly after his emigrationto Madina, just at the time
when the teachings of Islam in all fields of life for the Muslim
community were starting to be revealed to the Holy Prophet and
demonstratedby him by his example and practice. An intellectually
gifted person was required who would have daily contact with the Holy
Prophet at the closest and most personal level, so as to absorb the
teachings that he was giving on all aspects of life by his words and
actions. Such a person would need to possess the following qualities:
an excellent, precise memory to retain a vast amount of detail accurately,
the understanding to graspthe significance and the principles of the teachings,
powers of reasoning, criticism and deduction to resolve problems on
the basis of those teachings,
the skills to convey knowledge to a wide rangeof audience,
and, finally, have the prospect of living for a considerable period of
timeafter the death of the Holy Prophet in order to spread his message
to distant generations.
That Aisha possessed all these qualities and carried out this mission
is an absolutely positive and undeniable, historical fact. After the
Holy Prophet's death, she acted as a teacher and interpreter of Islam,
providing guidance to even the greatest of the male Companions of the
Holy Prophet Muhammad. They made a special point of going to her to
gain knowledge and seek her opinion. A vast number of sayings and
actions of the Holy Prophet are reported from her in books of Hadith.
She not only quoted his sayings and reported her observations of
events, but interpreted them to provide solutions to questions.
Whenever necessary, she corrected the views of the greatest ofthe
Companions of the Holy Prophet. She made rulings and judgments on
which Islamic law is based.
The following are two examples of what the Holy Prophet's male
Companions said about her:
"Abu Musa said: Whenever there was any hadith that was difficult [to
understand] for us, the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, and
weasked Aisha we always found that she had knowledge about that
hadith."
"Musa ibn Talha said: I never saw anyone more eloquent than Aisha." [1]
In the famous compilation of the lives of saints in Islam,
Tadhkirat-ul-Auliya, the author Farid-ud-Din Attar, who lived eight
centuries ago, introduces the life of the early female saint Rabia of
Basra as follows:
"If anyone says, 'Why have you included Rabia in the rank of men?', my
answer is that the Prophet himself said, 'God does not regard your
outward forms'. … Moreover, if it is proper to derive two-thirds of
our religion from Aisha, surely it is permissible to take religious
instruction from ahandmaid of Aisha." [2]
It is thus recognised, from the earliest times in Islam, that some
two-thirds of Islamic Sharia is based on reports and
interpretationsthat have come from Aisha.
In view of these exceptional qualities of Aisha and the towering role
played by her in the transmission of the teachings of Islam, it is
simply preposterous and outrageous to suggest thatshe was the victim
of someform of child and marital abuse. We ask in particular the
Christian and Jewish critics of Islam, who are reviling the Holy
Prophet Muhammad on the basis ofhis marriage with Aisha, whether they
can point outany example of a woman in their religions who played a
role like that of Aisha in learning the religion from its founder and
becoming the teacher and instructor of all his followers, including
men, after his death....

A real Story; A Maharaja in Warsaw:

A Maharaja in Warsaw:

:-|Why was a school in Poland named after Jamsaheb Digvijay Singh
Jadeja, who once ruled Nawanagar? Jayaraj Manepalli has the story:
:->
At first glance, it looks like any school in Warsaw, Poland. Children
playing outside, the buzz in the corridors, the gentle aromaof snacks
shared by students, and teachers hurrying to their classrooms — a
typical school scene.
However, once inside the building, one is transported to different
surroundings. Numerous pictures of Indian monuments and landscape, wall
graffiti depicting classical dance and rangoli, dozens of handicrafts
and decoration items, Tibetan Thangka paintings, classrooms with
bright motifs and paintings, pictures of Indian gods andgoddesses
adorning the walls of the school office makes one wonder whether one
is still in Warsaw.
Walking through the schools on Bednarska and Raszynska streets is like
a trip to an Indian museum. The reason for the special emphasis on
India and its culture goes back to an important phase of Polish
history prior to World War II. The legacy of the kindness shown by an
Indian ruler decades ago continues in this school — thousands of
kilometres away from India.
How did a ruler so far away earn the respect and honour of the school
and isstill remembered today? The Friends of India Education
Foundation that runs this school named it after Jamsaheb Digvijay
Singh Jadeja, the former ruler of the princely state of Nawanagar, as
a tribute to his love and kindness shown to Polish refugees in the
1940s. Digvijay Singh was known to have learnt much about Polish
history and culture from his Polish neighbours during his stay with
his uncle in Switzerland in the 1920s.
The school has a unique form of functioning. It has a constitution,
the executive, judiciary and legislature comprising students, parents
and teachers that administer the "school republic" in a democratic
manner. The school today has different premises for primary, secondary
and International Baccalaureate(IB) sections spread across the city.
Interestingly, Digvijay Singh was declared the patron saint of this
school after the school community consisting of parents, students and
teachers conducted a referendum inJune 1999 and overwhelmingly
approved the move.
The many wars
During the years precedingWorld War II, a huge number of Poles were
taken away by the Red Army to work at the Soviet-run labour camps in
remote parts of North-Eastern USSR and Siberia. When Hitler's army
invaded the Soviet Union in 1941, the USSR announced a general amnesty
leading to the release of Polish exiles from labour camps. This was
also done with a view to encourage forming a Polish Army unit to fight
the German army that was fast advancing into the USSR.
Thus began a great exodus— from the cold parts of the Soviet Union to
warmer southern regions of Central Asia. The long and arduous journey
stretched over hundreds ofkilometres. It was a test of human endurance
and suffering in the most difficult situations. Many travellers lost
their loved ones en route owing to thecold, hunger, malnutrition and
dehydration. The journey stretched across many lands and transit
points — Ashkhabad in Turkmenistan, Mashhad, Isfahan and Tehran in
Iran, Afghanistan, Quetta, Zahedau and Karachi in present day Pakistan
and to India's western coast.
The first batch of the 500 severely malnourished andexhausted orphans
had a surprise welcome, when they arrived in Nawanagar, from the
Maharaja himself. "Don't consider yourselves orphans. You are now
Nawanagaris and I am Bapu, the father of all Nawanagaris, including
yourselves," he said. Digvijay Singh was the Chancellor of the Council
ofPrinces and member of theImperial War Cabinet in British India
(1939-1945) who opened his province to Polish refugees threatened with
annihilation. He knew the officials of the Polish government in exile
that operated from London owing to his position in the Imperial War
Cabinet.
Kind heart
Digvijay Singh not only welcomed the refugees, but also ensured that
they had special accommodation, schools, medical facilities and
opportunities for rest and recuperation at Balachadi, near Jamnagar.
Singh also opened a camp at Chela and involved the rulers of Patiala
and Baroda, with whom he had a good rapport in the Chamber of Princes,
to help the refugees. Business houses like Tata and other individuals
raised over Rs. 6,00,000 between 1942 -1945...

What do Muslims believe?

Muslims believe in the One,Unique, Incomparable, Merciful God--the
Sole Creator, Sustainer and Cherisher of the Universe; in the Angels
created by Him; in the Prophets through whom His revelations were
brought to humankind; in the Day of Judgment and in individual
accountability for actions; in God's complete authority over destiny,
be it good or bad; and in life after death.
Muslims believe that God sent his messengers and prophets to all
people beginning with Adam (Adam) and including Noah(Nuh), Abraham
(Ibrahim), Lot (Lut), Ishmael (Isma'il), Isaac (Ishaq), Jacob
(Ya'qub), Joseph (Yusuf), Job (Ayb), Moses (Musa), Aaron (Harun),
David (Dawud), Solomon (Sulayman), Elias (Ilyas), Jonah (Yunus), John
the Baptist (Yahya), and Jesus ('Isa); peace be upon them all.
God's final message to humanity, a reconfirmationof the eternal
message anda summing up of all that has gone before, was revealed to
the Last Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through the Archangel
Gabriel.
One becomes a Muslim by believing and proclaiming that "There is none
worthyof worship except God, andthat Muhammad is the Messenger of
God." By this declaration the believer announces his or her faith in
all God's messengers, and the Scriptures (in their pristine original
form) that these messengers brought.

Give Me Something Better

The Messenger of Allah (sws) said: "There is no calamity that befalls
one ofthe Muslims and he responds 'Inna Lillahi wa inna ilahi
raaji'oun, Allahumma ujurni fi museebati w'ukhluf li khayran minha,'
(Truly to Allah we belong & truly to Him we shall return, O Allah
reward me in this calamity & compensate mewith something better than
it), but Allah will compensate him with something better than it."
(Muslim 918)
In other words, if you've lost something precious, orif disaster has
hit you, and you respond with faith in Allah, asking Him to
replaceyour loss with something better, then Allah will surely respond
and give you something better.
SubhanAllah! What more could we ask? Allah is the only one who does
this. If your house is destroyed, the insurance company willtry to
find a way to deny your claim, and if they finally pay then they will
pay less than it's worth.
The crucial thing is that thedua' must be said in that moment of pain
and loss, when you are really hurting. You can't respond at first by
saying, "Why did you do this to me Allah, I didn't deserve this!" then
months later when you've recovered somewhat, thinkyou can say this
dua' and itwill work for you.
The whole point is that in those moments when life is most difficult
and you are totally thrown for a loop, you respond by turning to
Allah. That's the test. Those moments are the proving ground of
yoursoul. If you can face Allah inthose moments of agony and say – I
trust You, all things return to You, I know you will give me something
better – then indeed Allah will give you more than you can imagine.
May Allah give us the strength to remember Him and turn to Him
instinctively in times of calamity and times of joy as well.

Loosing the Noor & innocence from our Face

Have you ever wondered why so many people who were bright and
beautiful as children however, as they grew older their innocence and
beauty eluded them? Well, wonder no more – Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn
Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) explains this phenomena to us:
"The person who is righteous and honest, his honesty is manifest from
the radiance on his face, and his honesty can be known from the glow
that is on his face, likewise the (opposite for the) sinful one and
the liar. The older a person gets, the more this sign becomes
apparent. Thus a person as a child would have a brightface, however if
he becomes a sinful person, adamant on committing sins, at the older
stages in his life, an ugly face would manifest that which he used to
internalize, and theopposite is also true. It has been narrated that
Ibn Abbaas (radiyallaahu 'anhu) said,
'Indeed righteousness illuminates the heart, radiates the face,
strengthens the body, increases provision, and produces a love in the
hearts of the creation for that person. Whereas sinfulness darkens the
heart, greys the face, weakens the body, and produces hatred in the
hearts of the creation for that person.'
It is possible that a person may not intentionally lie; he may even be
a person who makes great effort in 'Ibaadah (worship) and hasZuhd
(abstains from pleasures of this life that are lawful). However he has
false, incorrect 'Aqeedah regarding either Allaah, His religion or His
Messenger (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) or His righteous servants.
And what is on the inside affects what is on the outside. Thus, this
false, incorrect 'Aqeedah that he thought was true and correct
reflects on his face, and his face would be dark in accordance with
the level of falsehood he possesses. As it has been narrated that
'Uthmaan ibnAffaan (radiyallaahu 'anhu) said,
'No one ever hides evil within themselves except that Allaah makes it
manifest from his facial outlook and the statements his tongues
utters.'
Hence some of the Salaf (pious predecessors) used to say,
'If a person of innovation were to dye his beard every day, the dye of
innovation would remain on his face.'
On the day of judgment this would be very clear as Allaah says, "And
on the Day of Resurrection you will see those who lied against Allaah
their faces will be black. Is there not inHell an abode for the
arrogant ones?" [Soorat Az -Zumar, 39:60]
He ta'ala also said, "On the Day when some faces will become white and
some faces will become black; as for those whose faces will become
dark (to them will be said): "Did you reject Faith after accepting it?
Then taste the torment for rejecting Faith." [Soorah Aali-Imraan,
3:106]
Ibn Abbaas and others have said regarding this verse,
'The bright faces will be of the ahlus-sunnah (people of the Sunnah),
and the dark faces will be of the people of bid'ah (innovation) and
division.'"

Allah First

Allah first, glorified and exalted be He. Not career, money, savings,
stocks, investments, 401K, IRA. Allah first. Not family, because we
cannot serve our families well unless we serve Allah first. Not
culture, nationality, "race", caste, tribe, clan, lineage, social
status (all of which are utterly meaningless).
Allah first. Not material, shopping, sales – people get up early for a
sale but can't wake up for Allah – smart phone, internet, computer.
Allah, Allah, Allah first. Not movies, shows, fake celebrities who are
worshiped like idols. Not sports teams, city, school, neighborhood.
Only when we put Allah first canwe stay that we have understood "Laa
ilaha il-Allah" (there is no God but Allah) – thissimple sentence and
testimony of faith, over which Prophets have been killed, believers
persecuted, and which has been so little understood even by Muslims.
This Laa ilaha il-Allah was the call of every Prophet and Messenger
from time immemorial. Allah says about it,
"…and know that Laa ilaaha ill Allah (there is no deity worthy of
worship but Allah)…" [Quran47:19, 20:8, 3:18, 59:22-3]
And Abu Sa`eed al-Khudri said, that the Messenger of Allah (S) said:
"Moses (AS) said: 'O Lord! Teach me something that I can remember You
with and I can supplicate You with'. He (Allah Ta'ala) said: 'Say 'Laa
ilaaha ill Allah', O Musaa'. He (Musaa) said:'All of your servants say
this'. He (Allah) said: 'If the seven Heavens and those who dwell
inthem other than Me and the seven Earths are put into one pan (of the
scale) and 'Laa ilaaha ill Allaah' is put into the other; 'Laa ilaaha
ill Allah' would be heavier.'" [Ibn Hibbaan and Haakim]
Laa ilaha il-Allah is the stuff of legends. It is the calling card of
the Eternal Prime Mover. It has rights over us. It's a contract,
anoath, a promise to love Allah before the people, fear Allah more
than the people, and to ask ourselves in every situation, "What does
Allah want me to dohere?" It's a vow to trust Allah before the people,
call upon Allah in times of hardship, thankAllah in times of plenty,
and know in our bones that our return is to Him.

Question
Its believed that certain events will happen before actual coming of
JudgmentDay e.g. sun rising from west, beast, smoke, landslides… But
what do these events have to do with actual Judgment Day& the decision
of whether one will go to heaven OR hell, which depends upon aperson's
deeds,
:->
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify
that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad
is His slave and Messenger.
There is no doubt that what will be taken into account in regard to
the Hereafter are the deeds of the person; if he did good deeds, he
will find good and if he did evil deeds, he will find evil. Allaah
Says (what means): { Then as forone whose scales are heavy [with good
deeds]. He will be in a pleasant life. But as for one, whose scales are
light. His refuge will be an abyss. And what can make you know what
that is? It is a Fire, intensely hot. } [Quran 101:6-11]
However, among the signs of the Hour, there are somesigns that will
have an effect on the human being and his acts, among which are the
(supernatural) acts that the Dajjaal ( the Anti-Christ ) will perform
which will tempt some people. It is for this reason that the Prophet
ordered us to seek refuge (with Allaah) from the trialsof the Dajjaal.
The same thing applies to the rising of the sun from the west. When
the sun rises from the west, the door of repentance will be closed and
the belief of those who profess belief atthat time (i.e. upon seeing
the signs) would not be accepted from them. It is confirmed that Abu
Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet said: '' The Hour will not come
until the sun rises from the west, and when it rises from the west and
the people see it, they will all affirm their faith but that time is a
time when no soul will benefit from its faith (as long as it had not
believed previously), and he recited the verse in which Allaah Says
(what means): } The Day that some of the signs of your Lord will come
no soul will benefit from its faith as long as it had not believed
before or had earned through its faith some good. Say, "Wait. Indeed,
we [also] are waiting. " }[Quran 6:158] [Al-Bukhaariand Muslim]
Allaah Knows best.

Taste of summer

"This time, it's hotter than last year," that's what everyone is
saying these days. And this time, it is no exaggeration. Soaring
temperatures are leading to cases of heat exhaustion– a rarity here.
But don't letthose television commercials fool you into buying fizzy
drinks to quench your thirst. What you eat and drink need notalways
cool you.
Drink water
Liquids in the form of water and fresh juices trump everything else in
extreme heat. Mini Mary Prakash, chief clinical dietician, PRS
Hospital, adds that it would do goodto up one's water intake from the
usual two litres toanywhere between 3.5 andfour litres: "Green tea is
recommended instead of regular tea as it has less caffeine. Alcoholic
beverages, chilled drinks, even iced tea won't help asthey have a
diuretic effect, leading to more loss of water from the body. Chilled
drinks constrict the blood vessels and obstruct sweat."
She also advises adding a few sprigs of mint to one's early morning
cup of greentea. "That's no substitute for water," says Jayasree N.S.,
senior dietician, KIMS. "One can drink up to 15 glasses of water every
day." She adds: "Coffee beyond the normal limit will only add to the
heat asit contains caffeine. Chocolates also increases body heat,"
says Jayasree.
Milk, that too low-fat, and curd, also in variations like buttermilk,
are recommended as it also provides calcium. Tomato juice is also
great for the weather as it provides lycopene. "Lycopene helps repair
the body's tissues. Cucumber, musk melons orwater melons are good
tooas they are high in water content." Those looking to lose weight
should skip thesugar when drinking juices."It is good if those dieting
do not substitute fruit juicefor water as it can lead to weight gain,"
says Mini.
Jayasree points out that people can help themselves best by avoiding
foods with fat content: "Avoid snacking on puff pastries, cake, things
of that sort as they will surely have fattening ingredients such as
butter or ghee to help increase taste and texture. Fried food such as
chips and puris should not be had either."
Red meats are a strict no-no, while chicken and fish are still better,
though again not fried. "Everythingwe have for a sadya is acceptable.
As for vegetarians, it is importantto keep having pulses."
Mini says the summer is also the season when people tend to contract
food-borne illnesses. "Vendors add ice to fruit juices. This may not
alwaysbe hygienic. Yoghurt contains probiotic bacteria that decreases
chances of food-borne infections. It should be made a part of one's
daily diet."
Save dry fruits like dates, figs and apricots for winter."The absence
of water in them will only make one thirsty. Also avoid sugary foods
or anything with honey or molasses as they will make one thirsty and
tired. Ice cream and beer, though summer favourites, have a temporary
cooling effect on the body. Food that is too salty or spicy adds to
the discomfort as they generate heat," Mini says.
Both dieticians agree on the goodness of vegetarianfood in summer.
"Christiansobserve Lent in summer. It is a time when the community
follows a vegetarian diet. This has health benefits too," adds Mini.
For those who didn't know,Mini says cardamom, gooseberry, papaya,
mushroom and pomegranate compromise 'cooling' foods too. Mango, she
adds, increases heat: "Ifyou are really craving mangoes, put them in
water overnight and then have them as it absorbs the heat."
So now that you know, bring more of the right food into your diet to
stay cool during summer.

The Third Caliph, Uthman(644-656 A.C.) "Every Prophet has an assistant, and my assistant will be Uthman."(Hadeeth)

Uthman's Election
When 'Umar fell under the assassin's dagger, before he diedthe people
asked him to nominate his successor. 'Umar appointed a committee
consisting of six of the ten companions of the Prophet (peace be on
him) about whom the Prophet had said, "They are the people of Heaven"
- Ali, Uthman, Abdul Rahman, Sa'ad, Al-Zubayr and Talha - to select
thenext Caliph from among themselves. He also outlined the procedure
to be followed if any differences of opinion should arise. Abdul
Rahman withdrew his name. He was then authorized by the committee to
nominate the Caliph. After two days of discussion among the candidates
and after the opinions of the Muslims in Medina had been ascertained,
the choice was finally limited to Uthman and Ali. Abdul Rahman came to
the mosque together with other Muslims, and after a brief speech and
questioning of the two men, swore allegiance toUthman. All those
present did thesame, and Uthman became the third Caliph of Islam in
the monthof Muharram, 24 A.H.
Uthman's Life
Uthman bin Affan was born seven years after the Holy Prophet (peace be
on him). He belonged to the Omayyad branchof the Quraish tribe. He
learned to read and write at an early age,and as a young man became a
successful merchant. Even beforeIslam Uthman had been noted for his
truthfulness and integrity. He and Abu Bakr were close friends, and it
was Abu Bakr whobrought him to Islam when he was thirty-four years of
age. Some years later he married the Prophet's second daughter,
Ruqayya. In spite of his wealth and position, his relatives subjected
him to torture becausehe had embraced Islam, and he was forced to
emigrate to Abyssinia. Some time later he returned to Mecca but soon
migrated to Medina with the other Muslims. In Medina his business
again began to flourish and he regained his former prosperity.
Uthman's generosity had no limits. On various occasions he spent a
great portion of his wealth for the welfare of the Muslims, for
charity and for equipping the Muslim armies. That is why he came to be
known as 'Ghani' meaning 'Generous.'
Uthman's wife, Ruqayya was seriously ill just before the Battle of
Badr and he was excused by the Prophet (peace be on him) from
participating in the battle. The illness Ruqayya proved fatal, leaving
Uthman deeply grieved. The Prophet was moved and offered Uthman the
hand of another of his daughters, Kulthum. Because he had the high
privilege of having two daughters of the Prophet as wives Uthman was
known as 'The Possessor of the Two Lights.'
Uthman participated in the Battles of Uhud and the Trench. After the
encounter of the Trench, the Prophet (peace be onhim) determined to
perform Hajj and sent Uthman as his emissary to the Quraish in Mecca,
who detained him. The episode endedin a treaty with the Meccans known
as the Treaty of Hudaibiya.
The portrait we have of Uthman is of an unassuming, honest, mild,
generous and very kindly man, noted especially for his modesty and his
piety. He often spent part of the night in prayer, fasted every second
or third day, performed hajj every year, and looked after the needy of
the whole community. In spite of his wealth, he lived very simply and
slept on bare sand in the courtyard of the Prophet's mosque. Uthman
knew the Qur'an from memory and had an intimate knowledge of the
context and circumstances relating to each verse.
Uthman's Caliphate
During Uthman's rule the characteristics of Abu Bakr's and Umar's
caliphates - impartial justice for all, mild and humane policies,
striving in the path of God, and the expansion of Islam -continued.
Uthman's realm extended in the west to Morocco,in the east to
Afghanistan, and inthe north to Armenia and Azerbaijan. During his
caliphate anavy was organized, administrative divisions of the state
were revised, and many public projects were expanded and completed.
Uthman sent prominent Companions of the Prophet (peace be on him) as
his personal deputies to various provinces to scrutinize the conduct
of officials and the condition of the people.
Uthman's most notable contribution to the religion of God was the
compilation of a complete and authoritative text of the Qur'an. A
large number of copies of this text were made and distributed all over
the Muslim world.
