I'm still in Vancouver for a martial arts seminar, and it's so
beautiful here.Mountains, rivers, trees, beaches, shining buildings,
and perfect weather. When Allah has given a people so much, they will
be accountable for what they did with their blessings.
Are we doing what we should with our blessings? Are we grateful? Do we
share? Do we proclaim the truth? Are we fulfilling our potentials?
If not, then there is no better time to begin thanright now, this
moment. Choose one small way to be a better Muslim, and implement it
in your life today. That's how it starts. The road to Jannahbegins
with the first step.

Get Up and Do Your Thing
Life has been challenginglately. In July I've faced some financial
setbacks, and also some personal setbacks that have hit mehard, and
drained me emotionally to the point where sometimes I just sit in my
padded computer chair and don'tfeel like getting up. I feel like I
hardly have the energy to get up and prepare some food to eat, let
alone pray, work, go to class, care for my daughter…
And yet I do get up. I go out and teach a 2.5 hour martial arts class
and I doit with vigor, because my students are looking to me for
guidance and inspiration. I get up and do my volunteer job at the
Muslim community center. I get up and take my daughter to the lake or
the masjid, and have atea party with her, and read her the latest
chapter of "Fish Face". I laugh with her and love her with everything
I've got, because she needs me. I don't have time for self-pity.
I get up and do my thing,because that's what it is to be a man (or
woman), to be a father (or mother), to be a Muslim, to be a friend, to
be alive! You get up and do what you have to do. Youpick your foot up
and take a step, then lift the other one and take another step, and
before you know it you are moving ahead, and time has passed and your
problems have diminished and don't hurt quite so much, or maybe you
have overcome them entirely, because you are experiencing the joy of
life. Your love for Allah, and your gratitude, and your attentiveness
to the beauty and blessings around you, all wash the pain away like a
river.
That's what it is to be alive. SubhanAllah.
So, to all those reading this now, I send you light and love, and I
know thatno matter what physical or emotional aches you are
experiencing, you will rise each morning with gratitude, you will take
a step and move ahead, you will love and laugh, you will push
self-pity to the side and live your lives with commitment, in the
shorttime that we all have on this beautiful ball of brown and blue.
One last note: Eat healthyfoods, drink water and – very important –
get enough sleep. These are all critical to maintaining an emotional
balance and moving forward in life with a positive attitude.

fronts and that we have no helpers. At times our passion drains away
and we feel like we're just going through the motions. This happens to

At those moments, Shaytan (Satan) tries to push us into despair.
Despair is one of Shaytan's greatest weapons. If we are in debt,
Shaytan tries to get us to despair of getting out of debt. If we're
ill, he tries to convince us to despair of getting well. Ifwe have
committed sins, he whispers to us to despair of Allah's mercy and the
possibility of forgiveness. He tries to make us despair of our
futures, despair of our salvation, and fail to see the beauty in our
lives.
Believers must resist Shaytan's whispers. Believers must be people of
hope, and must see the world through eyes of hope. Believers make life
choices that are rooted in hope.
"Shaytan threatens you with poverty and orders you to immorality,
while Allah promises you forgiveness from Him andbounty. And Allah is
all-Encompassing and Knowing." – Quran, Al-Baqarah, 2:268
So we have two differentcalls echoing in our ears. Shaytan calls us to
fear, and grasping attachmentto this material world.
Allah the Almighty, on theother hand, offers us forgiveness and true
blessings. Allah offers us hope. Hope is not wishing on a star, or

Rabiah ibn Kab - Biographies of the Companions (Sahabah)
Here is the story of Rabiah told in his own words: "I was still quite
young when the light of iman shone through me and my heart was opened
to the teachings of Islam. And when my eyes beheld the Messenger
ofGod, for the first time, I loved him with a love that possessed my
entire being. I loved him to the exclusion of everyone else.
One day I said to myself:
'Woe to you, Rabi'ah. Why don't you put yourself completely in the
service of the Messenger of God, peace be on him. Go and suggest this
to him. If he is pleased with you, you would find happiness in being
near him. You will be successful through love for him and you will
have the good fortune of obtaining the good in this worldand the good
in the next.'
This I did hoping that he would accept me in his service. He did not
dash my hopes. He was pleased that I should be his servant. From that
day, I lived in the shadow of the noble Prophet. I went with him
wherever he went. I moved in his orbit whenever and wherever he
turned. Whenever he cast a glance in my direction, I would leap to
stand in his presence. Whenever he expressed a need, he would find me
hurrying to fulfil it.
I would serve him throughout the day. When the day was over and he had
prayed Salat al-Isha and retired to his home, I wouldthink about
leaving. But I would soon say to myself:
'Where would you go, Rabi'ah? Perhaps you may be required to do
something for the Prophet during the night.' So I would remain seated
at his door and would not leave the threshold ofhis house. The Prophet
would spend part of his night engaged in Salat. I would hear him
reciting the opening chapter of the Quran and he would continue
reciting sometimes for a third or a half of the night. I would become
tired and leave ormy eyes would get the better of me and I would fail
asleep.
It was the habit of the Prophet, peace be on him, that if someone did
him a good turn, he loved to repay that person with something more
excellent. He wanted to do something for me too in return for my
service to him. So one day he came up tome and said: 'O Rabi'ah ibn
Kab.' 'Labbayk ya rasulullah wa Sadark - At your command, O Messenger
of God and may God grant you happiness,' I responded. 'Ask of me
anything and I will give it to you.'
I thought a little and then said: 'Give me some time, O Messenger of
God, to think about what I should ask of you. Then I will let you
know.' He agreed.
At that time, I was a young man and poor. I had neither family, nor
wealth, nor place of abode. Iused to shelter in the Suffah of the
mosque with other poor Muslims like myself. People used to call us the
"guests of Islam". Whenever any Muslim brought something in charity to
the Prophet, he would send it all to us. And if someone gave him a
gift he would take some of it and leave the rest for us.
So, it occurred to me to ask the Prophet for some worldly good that
would save me from poverty and make me like otherswho had wealth, wife
and children. Soon, however, I said: 'May you perish Rabi'ah. The
world is temporary and will passaway. You have your share of
sustenance in it which God has guaranteed and which must come to you.
The Prophet, peacebe on him, has a place with his Lord and no request
would be refused him. Request him therefore, to ask Allah to grant you
something of the bounty of the hereafter.'
I felt pleased and satisfied with this thought. I went to the Prophet
and he asked: 'What do you say, O Rabi'ah?' 'O Messengerof God,' I
said, 'I ask you to beseech God most High on my behalf to make me your
companion in Paradise.'
'Who has advised you thus?' asked the Prophet.
'No by God,' I said, 'No one has advise me. But when you told me 'Ask
of me anything and I will give to you,' I thought of asking you for
something of the goodness of this world. But before long, I was guided
to choose what is permanent and lasting against what is temporary and
perishable. And so I have asked you to beseech God on my behalf that I
may be your companion in Paradise.'
The Prophet remained silent for a long while and then asked: 'Any
other request besides that, Rabi'ah?' 'No, O Messenger of God, Nothing
can match what I have asked you.' 'Then, in that case, assist me for
your sake by performing much prostration to God.'
So I began to exert myself in worship in order to attain the good
fortune of being with the Prophet in Paradise just as I had the good
fortune of being in his service and being his companionin this world.
Not long afterwards, the Prophet called me and asked: 'Don't you want
to get married, Rabi'ah?' 'I do not want anything to distract me from
your service,' I replied. 'Moreover, I don't have anything to give as
mahr (dowry) to a wife nor any place where I can accommodate a wife.'
The Prophet remained silent. When he saw me again he asked: 'Don't you
want to get married, Rabi'ah?' I gave him thesame reply as before.
Left to myself again, I regretted what I had said and chided myself:
'Woe to you, Rabi'ah. By God, theProphet knows better than you what is
good for you in this world and the next and he also knows better than
you what youpossess. By God, if the Prophet, peace be on him, should
ask me again to marry, I would reply positively.'
Before long, the Prophet asked me again: 'Don't you want to getmarried
'Rabi'ah?'
'Oh yes, Messenger of God,' I replied, 'but who will marry me when I
am in the state you know.' 'Go to the family of so-and-so and say to
them: the Prophet has instructed you to give your daughter in marriage
to me.'
Timidly, I went to the family andsaid: 'The Messenger of God, peace be
on him, has sent me toyou to ask you to give your daughter in marriage
to me.' 'Our daughter?' they asked, incredulously at first. 'Yes,' i
replied.
'Welcome to the Messenger of God, and welcome to his messenger. By
God, the messenger of God's Messenger shall only return with his
mission fulfilled. 'So they made amarriage contract between me and
her. I went back to the Prophet and reported:
'O Messenger of Allah. I have come from the best of homes. They
believed me, they welcomed me, and they made a marriage contract
between me and their daughter. But from where do I get the mahr for
her?'
The Prophet then sent for Buraydah ibn al-Khasib, one of the leading
persons in my tribe, the Banu Asiam, and said to him:'O Buraydah,
collect a nuwat's weight in gold for Rabi'ah.
This they did and the Prophet said to me: 'Take this to them and say,
this is the sadaq of yourdaughter.' I did so and they accepted it.
They were pleased and said, This is much and good.' I went back to the
Prophet and told him: 'I have never yet seen a people more generous
than they. They were pleased with what I gave them in spite of its
being little...Wherecan I get something for the walimah (marriage
feast), O Prophet of God?'
The Prophet said to Buraydah 'Collect the price of a ram for Rabi'ah.'
They bought a big fat ram for me and then the Prophet told me: 'Go to
Aishah and tell her to give you whateverbarley she has.'
Aishah gave me a bag with seven saas of barley and said: 'ByGod, we do
not have any other food.' I set off with the ram and the barley to my
wife's family. They said: 'We will prepare the barley but get your
friends to prepare the ram for you.'
We slaughtered, skinned and cooked the ram. So we had bread and meat
for the walimah. I invited the Prophet and he accepted my invitation.
The Prophet then gave me a piece of land near Abu Bakr's. From then I
became concerned with the dunya, with material things. I had a dispute
with Abu Bakr over a palm tree.
'It is in my land,' I insisted. 'No, it is in my land,' Abu Bakr
countered. We started to argue. Abu Bakr cursed me, but as soonas he
had uttered the offending word, he felt sorry and said to me: 'Rabiah,
say the same word to me so that it could be considered as qisas -just
retaliation.' 'No by God, I shall not,' I said.
'In that case, replied Abu Bakr. 'I shall go the Messenger of God and
complain to him about your refusal to retaliate against me measure for
measure.'
He set off and I followed him. Mytribe, the Banu Asiam, also set off
behind me protesting indignantly: 'He's the one who cursed you first
and then he goes off to the Prophet before you to complain about you!'
I turned to them and said: 'Woe to you! Do you know who this is? This
is As-Siddiq... and he is the respected elder of the Muslims. Go back
before he turns around, sees you and thinks that you have come to help
me against him. He would then be more incensed and go to the Prophet
in anger. The Prophet would get angry on his account. Then Allah would
be angry on their account and Rabi'ah would be finished.' They turned
back.
Abu Bakr went to the Prophet and related the incident as it had
happened. The Prophet raised his head and said to me:
'O Rabi'ah, what's wrong with you and as-Siddiq?' 'Messenger of God,
he wanted me to say thesame words to him as he had said to me and I
did not.'
'Yes, don't say the same word tohim as he had said to you. Instead
say: 'May God forgive youAbu Bakr.' With tears in his eyes,Abu Bakr
went away while saying: 'May God reward you with goodness for my sake,
O Rabiah ibn Kab... 'May God reward you with goodness for my sake, O
Rabiah ibn Kaab..."

Story - Bad action
Not know how to begin, before 4 months, this would be an wonderful
story, which, however, I turn into a nightmare.
It all started 4 years ago.
I met with him in an American chat room, which used to exercise his
tongue. She lived in New York and wanted to see me only 2 months after
our acquaintance.
Everything was going as well as in fairy tales, so the better. As is
seen, every 2 months or here, or more often to some exotic place,

I met with him in an American chat room, which used to exercise his
tongue. She lived in New York and wanted to see me only 2 months after
our acquaintance.
Everything was going as well as in fairy tales, so the better. As is
seen, every 2 months or here, or more often to some exotic place,
which features both izbirahme.Loshata it was his jealousy and distrust
sometimes, otherwise everything else was wonderful. I have dealt
treacherously! Always been alone for the truth Isaid it! There was a

Story - Never love someone too much
Hii, i'm 21 years old boy, studying pharmacy from a university. it all
started when i joined university for studying pharmacy. I was selected
from the waiting list, so my admission was 2 weeks after classes

childish, cute n sweet in nature, we used to come to the university in
the same bus but never talk with her actually, but i dont know when i
started to feel for her. I used to stare at her everyday and she also
never talked with me in person, i got to know theshe had a boyfriend
who cheated her, then again have a boyfriend. I was sad knowing this,
then days goes on like this. I wanted to talk to her but had no
courage how to start. Finally 1 day, i asked for her phone number, she
gave me without asking anything as we are classmates, then i started
sending jokes and all that, she also replied me with same, few days
goes same way. One day i decided to really talk with her, so we talked
soon she became very free with me and started to share everything with
me. I was very happy with this talking with hereveryday, suddenly 1
day her bf broke up with her n she was very sad n decided that she
will never hav bf anymore. Few day went this way. She also said she
still likeshis 1st bf, they talk sometime. I thought may be i have no
chance to b her love. 1 day, i shared my feeling for her to her n
hearing this she become shocked n said to be her friend nothing more
as she dont want anyone anymore, i tried to make her realize how ifeel
for her but she neverunderstood that. N kept on saying to be her
friend only other wise she will not talk, i agreedto her. Few days
later, again told her that i love her but she said no, i tried many
times bt she kept on saying no bt i kept my hope alive believing that

What is the reward for giving iftaar to one who isfasting?
Praise be to Allaah.
It was narrated that Zayd ibn Khaalid al-Juhani said: The Messenger of
Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:"Whoever
gives iftaar to one who is fastingwill have a reward like his,
without that detracting from the reward of the fasting personin the
slightest."
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 807; Ibn Maajah, 1746. Classed as saheeh by
Ibn Hibaan, 8/216 and by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami, 6415.
Shaykh al-Islam [Ibn Taymiyah] said: What is meant by giving him
iftaar is giving him enough to satisfy him. Al-Ikhtiyaaraat, p. 194
The righteous salaf were keen toprovide food for others and they
thought that this was one of thebest of righteous deeds.
One of the salaf said: For me to invite ten of my companions andfeed
them food that they like is dearer to me than freeing ten of the sons
of Ismaa'eel from slavery.
Many of the salaf used to give uptheir iftaar for others, such as
'Abd-Allaah ibn Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him), Dawood
al-Taa'i, Maalik ibn Dinar and Ahmad ibn Hanbal. Ibn 'Umar used only
to break his fast with orphans and the poor andneedy.
There were among the salaf those who used to offer food to their
brothers whilst fasting, and theywould sit and serve them, such as
al-Hasan and Ibn al-Mubaarak.
Abu al-Siwaar al-'Adawi said: Men from the tribe of Banu 'Adiyy used
to pray in this mosque and not one of them would break his fast on his
own; if they found someone to join them they would eat with him,
otherwise they would take their food out to the mosque and eat with
the people, and the people would eat with them.
From the 'ibaadah of providing food for people stem many other acts of
worship such as creating love and friendship towards those who are
given the food, which is a meansof entering Paradise, as the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allaah beupon him) said: "You will not enter
Paradise until you truly believe, and you will not truly believe until
you love one another." Narrated by Muslim, 54. It also fosters the
practice ofsitting with righteouspeople and seeking reward by helping
them to do acts of worship for which they gain strength by eating your
food.

Yes, Friday is a good day;there are many ahaadeeth which speak of its
virtues. See Question no. 9211 .
There are many acts of worship which are prescribed for the Muslim to
do on this day.These include:
1 – Salaat al-Jumu'ah (Friday prayer)
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"O you who believe (Muslims)! When the call is proclaimed for the
Salaah (prayer) on Friday (Jumu'ah prayer), come to the remembrance of
Allaah [Jumu'ah religious talk (Khutbah) and Salaah (prayer)] and
leave off business (and every other thing). That is better for you if
you did but know!"
[al-Jumu'ah 62:9]
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Zaad al-Ma'aad (1/376):
Friday prayer is one of the most important obligations in Islam, and
one of the greatest gatherings of the Muslims. Gathering on Friday is
more importantand more obligatory than any other gathering apart from
'Arafah. Whoever neglects it, Allaah will place a seal on his heart.
It was narrated from Abu'l-Ja'd al-Damari – who was a companion of the
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) – that the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever neglects
threeJumu'ahs, Allaah will place a seal on his heart."
Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1052; classed assaheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh
Abi Dawood, 928
It was narrated from 'Abd-Allaah ibn 'Umar and Abu Hurayrah that they
heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon
him) say on the minbar:
"Let people stop neglecting Jumu'ah, or Allaah will place a seal on
their hearts, then they will be among those who are neglectful."
Narrated by Muslim, 865.
2 – Making a lot of du'aa'.
On this day there is a time when a person's Lord will answer his
du'aa' – by Allaah's leave.
It was narrated from AbuHurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that
the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
mentioned Friday and said: "On this day there is a time when no Muslim
stands and prays,asking Allaah for something, but Allaah will grant
him it" – and he gestured with his hands to indicate how short that
time is.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari,893; Muslim, 852
3 – Reading Soorat al-Kahf.
It was narrated from AbuSa'eed al-Khduri that theProphet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf
on Friday, he willbe illuminated with lightbetween the two Fridays."
Narrated by al-Haakim; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh
al-Targheeb, 836
4 – Sending a lot of blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him).
It was narrated from Aws ibn Aws that the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) said: "The best of your days is Friday. On that
day Adam(peace be upon him) was created; on that dayhe died; on that
day the Trumpet will be blown; and on that day all of creation will
swoon. So send a great deal of blessings upon me, for your blessings
will be shown to me." They said,"O Messenger of Allaah, how will our
blessings upon you be shown to you when you have turned to dust?" He
said, "Allaah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the
Prophets, peace be uponthem."
Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1047; classed assaheeh by Ibn al-Qayyim in his
comments on Sunan Abi Dawood, 4/273; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani
in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 925.
He said in 'Awn al-Ma'bood:
Friday is singled out because it is the best of days and the chosen
day.So there is an advantageto sending blessings upon him on that day
that is not present on any other day.
Along with these virtues and acts of worship, the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade singling out Friday for
fasting, or singling out the night of Friday for doing acts of worship
that are not narrated in sharee'ah.
It was narrated from AbuHurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) said: "Do not single out the night of Friday
for qiyaam al-layl,and do not single out the day of Friday for
fasting, unless that is part of the habitual fasting of any one of
you."
(Narrated by Muslim, 1144).
Al-San'aani said in Subul al-Salaam:
This hadeeth indicates that it is haraam to single out the night of
Friday for worship or reading Qur'aan that is not one's regular
custom, apart from that which is indicated in thetexts, such as
reading Soorat al-Kahf.
Al-Nawawi said:
This hadeeth clearly states that it is forbiddento single out the
night ofFriday for prayer or the day of Friday for fasting. It is
agreed (among the scholars) that this is makrooh.
He also said:
The scholars said that the reason why it is forbidden to single out
Friday for fasting is that Friday is a day of du'aa', dhikr and
worship, such as ghusl, going early to the prayer, waiting for the
prayer, listening to the khutbah and recitinga lot of dhikr
afterwards,because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"Then when the (Jumu'ah) Salaah (prayer) is ended, you may disperse
through the land, and seek the Bounty of Allaah (by working), and
remember Allaah much"
[al-Jumu'ah 62:10]
And there are other acts of worship to be done on this day. So it is
preferable not to fast then, as this will help a person to perform
these duties in an energetic manner and enjoy them without feeling
bored ortired. This is like the pilgrim on the day of 'Arafah in
'Arafah, because the Sunnah is for him not to fast on that day for the
same reason… This is the reason for not allowing singling out Friday
for fasting. And it was said that the reason is so thatpeople will
not go to extremes in venerating it as happened in the case of
Saturday. But thisview is weak, because on that day we offer Jumu'ah
prayer and do other acts of worship which are a kind of veneration.
And it was said that the reason for its prohibition is so that people
would not think that this was obligatory. This is also a weak view
because it is encouragedto fast on Mondays and there was no fear that
anyone would think it was obligatory. No attention should be paidto
this far-fetched view. The same argument is applicable in the case of
fasting the day of 'Arafah and the day of 'Ashoora', etc. The correct
view is that which we have stated above.

afterwards,because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"Then when the (Jumu'ah) Salaah (prayer) is ended, you may disperse
through the land, and seek the Bounty of Allaah (by working), and
remember Allaah much"
[al-Jumu'ah 62:10]
And there are other acts of worship to be done on this day. So it is
preferable not to fast then, as this will help a person to perform
these duties in an energetic manner and enjoy them without feeling
bored ortired. This is like the pilgrim on the day of 'Arafah in
'Arafah, because the Sunnah is for him not to fast on that day for the
same reason… This is the reason for not allowing singling out Friday
for fasting. And it was said that the reason is so thatpeople will
not go to extremes in venerating it as happened in the case of
Saturday. But thisview is weak, because on that day we offer Jumu'ah
prayer and do other acts of worship which are a kind of veneration.
And it was said that the reason for its prohibition is so that people
would not think that this was obligatory. This is also a weak view
because it is encouragedto fast on Mondays and there was no fear that
anyone would think it was obligatory. No attention should be paidto
this far-fetched view. The same argument is applicable in the case of
fasting the day of 'Arafah and the day of 'Ashoora', etc. The correct
view is that which we have stated above.
And Allaah knows best.
Jumma Prayer - One may catch up with jumu’ah prayer by one rak’ah
If a person comes to the mosque on Friday and finds that the (Jumu'ah)
prayer has already ended, but he finds one man who still has one
rak'ah to pray, and he prays with him, should he complete his prayer
as Jumu'ah [two rak'ahs]or Zuhr [four rak'ahs]?
Praise be to Allaah.
He has to complete it as Zuhr, because the Jumu'ah prayer is over. You
can catch it up with one rak'ah if you catch up with the second rak'ah
prayed with the imaam, then you can pray it as Jumu'ah. But if you do
not come until after the salaam or after the second rak'ah, during the
Tashahhud orwhen the imaam is prostrating in the second rak'ah, then
you should not pray it as Jumu'ah, but rather as Zuhr, because the
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Whoever
catches up with one rak'ah of Jumu'ah, let him add one more to it and
his prayer will be complete." (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 482;
al-Nasaa'i, 554; Ibn Maajah, 1113). The meaning of this hadeethis that
if he only catches up with less than a rak'ah then he has not caught
up with Jumu'ah so he has to pray it as Zuhr. This is what is
prescribed in Islam. If he catches up with a personwho is making up
the rak'ah that he missed, and prays with him, thenhe should pray it
as Zuhrand not as Jumu'ah. It should also be noted that this should be

Praising Allaah – I
Many texts in the Quran and the Sunnah indicate the virtue of praising
Allaah and that it is whatthe dwellers of Paradise will say upon
entering Paradise .
The Prophet used to praise Allaah during all times. Furthermore,
supplications - which included the praise of Allaah - before and after
many actions have been reported on his behalf . He used to praise
Allaah after eating, drinking, wearing a new garmentand returning from
a journey. He also would praise Allaah during pilgrimage and upon
receiving good news or sad news. Thus weMuslims must praise Allaah
during all situations in order to attain the great reward of praising
Him.
The virtue of praising Allaah as mentioned in the Quran:
There are many acts of worship which people fail to perform despite
the great reward they yield and despite them being veryeasy to
perform. Allaah rewards for some simple acts abundantly, because He is
The Most Generous and The Beneficent, and regardless how much Allaah
gives, what He possesses will never decrease.
We must perform as many deeds as possible in order to be rescuedon the
Day of Judgment and reach our destination safely. One of the greatest
deeds to perform is mentioning Allaah, and it has many types, the best
of which is that done with the tongue and is connected to the heart.
This is when a person mentions Allaah and ponders upon what he is
saying, and praising Allaah is one such form of mention. Allaah is to
be praised in all situations as He is the only One worthy of praise.
Allaah praised Himself in many places in the Quran and He commanded us
to praise Him. The dwellers of Paradise will praise Allaah as Allaah
informs ussaying (what means): "…And the last of their call will be,
`Praise to Allaah, Lord of the worlds!`" [Quran 10: 10]
And also (what means): "… Praise to Allaah, Who has fulfilled for us
His promise." [Quran 39: 74]
And also (what means): "…Praise to Allaah, Who has removed fromus
[all] sorrow." [Quran 35: 34]
Praising Allaah is a great act of worship that reflects the slave's
contentment and submission to the Decrees of Allaah.
Praising Allaah is a phrase which will fill the slave's scale on the
Day of Judgment. The Prophet said: "The best type of supplication is
(saying): `Al-Hamdulillaah` (All Perfect praise be to Allaah)".
'Aa'ishah said: "The Messenger of Allaah recited frequently in bowing
and prostration: "Subhaanaka Rabbanaa wa bihamdika, Allaahumaghfir lee
. (Far removedYou are from every imperfection, our Lord, and all
praise is for You,forgive me, O Allaah)" . He elucidated that it has
been commanded in the Noble Quran to recite (what means): "So glorify
the Praises of your Lord, and ask for His forgiveness. Verily,He is
the One Who accepts the repentance and Who forgives." [Quran 110: 3]
And he (i.e. the Messenger of Allaah ) acted upon it." [Al-Bukhaari &
Muslim] Allaah commanded us not to forget this mention, namely
praising Him.
The greatest chapter in the entireQuran is Al-Faatihah, and it starts
with the praise of Allaah. The Messenger of Allaah said to Abu Sa`eed
Ibn Al-Mu`allaa : "Shall I teach you the greatest Chapter in the Quran
before you leave the mosque? … It is `Alhamdulillaahi Rabbil-`Aalameen
(i.e., Chapter Al-Faatihah)." [Al-Bukhaari]

of being worshipped except Allaah; and Allaah is The Greatest).` These
(words) will come on the Day of Judgment preceding the person (who
uttered them in life)and will be behind him, and to his sides."
Meaning they will surround him from all directions as a way of
honoring the person who used to utter them in the worldly life.
Ibn Mas`ood reported that the Messenger of Allaah said: "I met
Ibraaheem on the Night of Ascension (Al-Israa'), andhe said to me: `O
Muhammad, convey my greetings to your nation, and tell them that
Paradise has a vast plain of pure soil and sweet water. It is a plain
leveled land. The plants grow there by uttering: Subhaanallaah,
Al-Hamdulillaah, Laa Ilaaha Illallaah and Allaahu Akbar (Allaahis free
from imperfection; praise be to Allaah; there is no true god except
Allaah; and Allaah is The Greatest)." [At-Tirmithi]
The Messenger of Allaah once said to the companions : "Allaah chose
four phrases for you to utter: `Subhaanallaah, Al-Hamdulillaah, Laa
Ilaaha Ilallaah, Allaahu Akbar (Allaah is free from imperfection;
praise be to Allaah; none is worthy of beingworshipped except Allaah;
and Allaah is The Greatest)` Whoever says 'Subhaanallaah (Allaah is
freefrom imperfection)' will receive twenty rewards and twenty sins
will be expiated from his record. Whoever says 'Allaahu Akbar (Allaah
is The Greatest)' will receive twenty rewards and twenty sins will be
expiated fromhis record. Whoever says 'Laa ilaaha illallaah (None is
worthy of being worshipped except Allaah)'will receive twenty rewards
and twenty sins will be expiated fromhis record. Whoever says
'Al-Hamdulillaah (praise be to Allaah)' will receive thirty rewards
and thirty sins will be expiated from his record." [Ahmad]
We must utilize our time in the mention of Allaah as much as we can,
because it is the easiest thing to do while its outcome is great, it
is the plants of Paradise . It is a very easy profit and an effortless
gain ... but where are those who strive to get it?
Whenever a new bounty is bestowed upon the slave from Allaah, he
should utter the praise of Allaah. The Messenger of Allaah said:
"Allaah never bestows a bounty upon a slave and he praises Allaah, but
the utterance of praise was better for the slave than the bounty
itself . "
Allaah Says (what means): "And if you should count the favor [i.e.
blessings] of Allaah, you could not enumerate them." [Quran 14: 34]
Praising Allaah leads to His pleasures, as in the narration of Anas
who reported that the Messenger of Allaah said: "Allaah will be
pleased with His slave who praises Him (i.e., says Al-Hamdulillaah)
when he eats and praises Him when he drinks." [Muslim]
A true believer praises Allaah in all situations even as his soul is
departing, as the Messenger of Allaah said to Umm Ayman . Why would a
believer praiseAllaah upon his death? This is because he is being
freed from the prison of this worldly life and heading towards the
hoped eternal joyful life in Paradise . One's death is a decree of
Allaah, so a true believer praises Allaah for any Decree that befalls
him. Additionally, a true believer praises Allaah for having enabled
him to utilize this life in His pleasure.
There are many times during which the praise of Allaah is recommended,
and the followingare some examples:
Upon waking up, whilst rising from bowing, during prayer and upon sneezing:
One is amazed when he ponders on the cases were the praise is
recommended. The Prophet taught us that when a person wakes up, he is
encouraged to utter: "Al-Hamdulillaahi Al-Lathee 'Aafaanee Fee Jasadee
Waradda 'Aalayya Roohee (All praise is for Allaah who restored to me
my health and returned my soul)." The Prophet also taught us that when
an Imaam rises from the position of bowing, he should say: "Sami`a
Allaahu limanhamidah (Allaah listened to the one who praised Him)" and
that people should say: "Rabbanaa Walakal-hamdu (Our Lord, for Youis
all praise)" When the Prophet heard a man saying upon rising from
bowing in prayer: "Rabbanaa Walakal-hamdu Hamdan Katheeran Tayyiban
Mubarakan Feeh (Our Lord, for You is all praise, an abundant beautiful
blessed praise)" he said: "The angels were amazed upon hearing this
phrase". Furthermore, when one sneezes, he should praise Allaah
saying: "Al-Hamdulillaah (All praise is for Allaah)."
In the opening of lectures and sermons and after concluding prayers:
Whenever the Prophet used address the people with any issue, he would
open his speech with the praise of Allaah and His glorification.
Likewise, after concluding his prayers, he would praise Allaah thirty
three times.

Steadfast Love of Allaah - I
Love of Allaah The Almighty is a degree for which people competeand
which worshippers aspire to;forerunners hurried to realize it and
lovers devote themselves to it, and worshippers are pleasantly
relieved by its breeze. Love of Allaah nourishes hearts and souls, and
delights the eyes. It is life, a light, a cure, and a delight! If a
person is deprived of life, he will be counted as dead; ifa person is
deprived of light, he will move in severe darkness; if a person lacks
a cure, his heart will suffer all diseases; and if a persondoes not
attain delight, his life will be full of worries and pains. Moreover,
it is the people who have steadfast love of Allaah that attain honor
in this life and the Hereafter as they have the greatest share of the
company of those whom they love.
On the day when Allaah The Almighty decreed the fate of creation with
His will and sublime Wisdom, He decreed thata person will be with whom
he loves. How bountiful the blessing on those lovers is!
The Tree of Love is Extremely Sheltering
When the tree of love is planted in the heart and watered with the
sincerity and following of the beloved, it produces all kinds of
fruits regularly, by the permissionof Allaah The Almighty. Its roots
are firmly fixed into the innermost of the heart and its branches are
connected to the Sidrat Al-Muntaha (the furthest lote-tree). Indeed, a
person remains elevated to His Beloved without being hindered by any
barrier. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means):
• {To Him ascends good speech, and righteous work raises it.} [Quran 35:10]
• {Say, [O Muhammad], "If your fathers, your sons, your brothers,your
wives, your relatives, wealthwhich you have obtained, commerce wherein
you fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased are more
beloved to you than Allaah and His Messenger and Jihaad in His cause,
then wait until Allaah executes His Command. And Allaah does not guide
the defiantly disobedient people."} [Quran 9:24]
• {And [yet], among the people are those who take other than Allaah as
equals [to Him]. They love them as they [should] love Allaah. But
those who believe are stronger in love for Allaah.} [Quran 2:165]
• {O you who have believed, whoever of you should revert from his
religion - Allaah will bring forth [in place of them] a people He will
love and who will love Him [who are] humble toward the believers,
powerful against the disbelievers; they strive in the cause of Allaah
and do not fear the blame of a critic. That is the favor of Allaah; He
bestows it upon whom He wills. And Allaah is all-Encompassing and
Knowing.} [Quran 5:54]

the One in whose Hand my soul is, a person will not be [atrue]

mentions the dispute of the exalted assembly of angels, where the
Prophet said:
I saw my Lord The Exalted in the best form [in a vision]… Allaah The
Almighty Said, "Ask [Me]," and I [the Prophet ] said, "Allaahuma inni
asa'luka fi'l al-khayraat wa tark al-munkaraatwa hubb al-masaakeen wa
an taghfira li wa tarhamani wa itha aradta biqawmin fitnatan
fatawaffani ilayka ghayra maftoon, wa asaluka hubbak wahubba man
yuhibbuk wahubba kulli 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik (O Allaah, I beg
of You [to enable me] to do good deeds, and abandon evil deeds, and to
love the poor, that You forgive me and have mercy upon me, and if You
intend to put people to trial, then let me die without being afflicted
by anytrial. I beg of You, Your love and the love of the one who loves
You, and the love of the deed which brings me near to Your love.)"
Then the Messenger of Allaah said: "It [this vision] is a truth, so
study it [i.e., memorize its words]and learn it [i.e., its meanings]."

Ways to Attain and Strengthen the Love of Allaah
1- Reciting the Quran with reflection. The Prophet said: "Whoever
desires to love Allaah and His Messenger, let him read the Mus'haf
(Qur'aan)."
2- Seeking closeness to Allaah TheAlmighty through voluntary acts of
worship having performed those that are obligatory. In a Qudsi
(Sacred) Hadeeth, Allaah The Almighty Says: "My slave keeps on drawing
closer to Me byperforming voluntary acts until I love him."
3- Mentioning and remembrance of Allaah The Almighty constantlywith
the tongue and the heart. Ibraaheem ibn Al-Junayd said, "It is said
that rememberingAllaah the Almighty constantly with the heart and the
tongue is a sign of loving Him. A person who is fond of remembering
Allaah The Almighty often obtainsthe love of Allaah The Almighty."
4- Giving precedence to what Allaah The Almighty loves over what the
self loves and desires.
5- Realizing and observing the Names and Attributes of Allaah The
Almighty and living their meanings in the heart. 'Aa'ishah said,
The Prophet sent a battalion under the command of a man who would lead
his companions in prayer. This man would finish his recitation with
Soorat Al-Ikhlaas( chapter 112). When they returned, they mentioned
this to the Prophet . He said [to them]: "Ask him why he does this."
They asked him and he said,"I do so because it contains the
Attribute(s) of The Most Gracious and I love to recite it [in my
prayer]." The Prophet said [to them]: "Tell him that Allaah loves
him."
6- Recognizing the Kindness, benevolence, and apparent and hidden
blessings of Allaah The Almighty. Allaah The Almighty Says (what
means): {And whatever you have of favor - it is from Allaah.} [Quran
16:53]
7- Being secluded with Allaah TheAlmighty, when He descends to the
lowest sky, to talk to Him, recite His Words, supplicate to Him and
seek His forgiveness.
8- Sitting with the righteous and sincere lovers of Allaah.
9- Avoiding any means that standas a barrier between the heart and
Allaah The Almighty.
which worshippers aspire to;forerunners hurried to realize it and
lovers devote themselves to it, and worshippers are pleasantly
relieved by its breeze. Love of Allaah nourishes hearts and souls, and
delights the eyes. It is life, a light, a cure, and a delight! If a
person is deprived of life, he will be counted as dead; ifa person is
deprived of light, he will move in severe darkness; if a person lacks
a cure, his heart will suffer all diseases; and if a persondoes not
attain delight, his life will be full of worries and pains. Moreover,
it is the people who have steadfast love of Allaah that attain honor
in this life and the Hereafter as they have the greatest share of the
company of those whom they love.
On the day when Allaah The Almighty decreed the fate of creation with
His will and sublime Wisdom, He decreed thata person will be with whom
he loves. How bountiful the blessing on those lovers is!
The Tree of Love is Extremely Sheltering
When the tree of love is planted in the heart and watered with the
sincerity and following of the beloved, it produces all kinds of
fruits regularly, by the permissionof Allaah The Almighty. Its roots
are firmly fixed into the innermost of the heart and its branches are
connected to the Sidrat Al-Muntaha (the furthest lote-tree). Indeed, a

Supplications from the Quran and Sunnah
Islam attached great importance to supplicating, as it is the direct
means through which the slave communicates with his Lord. As Muslims
we do not need any mediators between us and Allaah. In this article we
will highlight some supplications thatwere mentioned in the Quran
andthe Sunnah of the Prophet, .
Supplications from the Quran
Allaah Says (what means): "Our Lord, condemn us not if we forget or
fall into error. Our Lord, lay not on us a burden like that you laid
on those before us. Our Lord, lay not on us what we have no strength
to bear. Blot out oursins, and forgive us, and have mercy on us, You
are our Protector, so give us Your help against the faithless people."
[Quran 2:286]
Allaah Says (what means): "Our Lord, not for naught have you created
that (Heavens and Earth and what is between] Glory be to You, so
shield us from the penalty of the Fire. Our Lord, whom you admit to
the Fire, you have covered them with shame. Our Lord, forgive us our
sins, and blot out from us our iniquities, and gather us with those
righteous (in the Hereafter). Our Lord, grant us what you promised us
through Your Messengers, and do not shame uson the Day of
Resurrection. Truly You, Allaah never break Your promise." [Quran
3:191-194]
Allaah Says (what means): "Our Lord, You are the Master of the
Kingdom, You grant the Kingdomto whom You will, and expropriate the
Kingdom from whom You will. You bring honor to whom You will and You
let whom You will be disgraced. In Your Hand is all the good, for
Youare Powerful over everything. Youcause the night to gain on the
day, and You cause the day to gain on the night. You bring the living
out of the dead and You bring the dead out of the living, and You give
sustenance to whom You will without measure". [Quran 3:26-27]
Allaah Says (what means): "Our Lord, truly You know what we conceal,
and what we reveal, and nothing is hidden from Allaah whether on Earth
or in Heaven". [Quran 14:38]
Allaah Says (what means): " Our Lord, forgive my parents and the
faithful (people) when, the Day ofJudgment comes. Our Lord, avert from
us the wrath of Hell, for its wrath is indeed a grievous affliction.
It is such a bad place tostay and abide". [Quran 25:65]
Allaah Says (what means): "Our Lord, in You we trust, and to You we
return in repentance, to You is the destination (of all Your
creation)." [Quran 60:7].
Allaah Says (what means): "Our Lord, forgive us our sins, and anything
we may have done that transgressed our duty, and establish our feet
firmly (when facing Your enemies) and help us against those that
resist faith". [Quran 3:147]
Allaah Says (what means): "Our Lord, we have wronged our own souls,
and if You do not forgive us, then we are certainly failures
(losers)." [Quran 7:23]
Allaah Says (what means): "Our Lord, bestow on us Mercy from Yourself,
and dispose of our affairs for us in the right way". [Quran 18:20]
Allaah Says (what means): "Our Lord, we do believe, so forgive us and
have mercy on us, for You (Allaah) are the most Merciful of any who
show mercy". [Quran 23:109]
Allaah Says (what means): "Our Lord, Your reach is over all things in
mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who repent and follow Your way
and preserve them from the torment of the blazing Fire. Our Lord,
grant themthat they enter Paradise which You have promised them and
the righteous of their fathers, and their wives, and their posterity
for You are Exalted in might, full of wisdom. And preserve them from
ills, for one whom You preserve from ill – on that Day of Judgment –
You bestow mercy onhim, and that is the supreme success". [Quran
40:7-9]
Allaah Says (what means): "Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after
You have guided us, And grant us Mercy from Your own presence, for You
are (Allaah) Granter of bounties without measure. Our Lord, You are He
that will gather all the people together against a day which there is
no doubt, for Allaah never break his promise". [Quran 3:8-9]

"O Allaah, forgive my sins, my ignorance, and my extravagance in my
affairs, and that which You know better than I."

"O Allaah, the Turner (Controller) of hearts, turn my heart to Your obedience."
"O Allaah, I seek Your love, and the love of those who love You, and
let me love to do every good act, which makes me closer to You."
"O Allaah, let your love become inmy heart – dearer than my own soul,
and dearer than my own property, and my family, and even dearer than
the cold water when I am dying of thirst."
"O Allaah, let my love be for Your sake, and my hate for Your sake.
Let me live for Your sake, and act for Your sake, and let me die for
Your sake (as a martyr)."
"O Allaah, instill Your fear in my heart (so that I can fear you even
without seeing you), fill our hearts with faith, and make us guided
and guiders (to others), and strengthen us in truthful speech, in both
this life and in the Hereafter."
"O Allaah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, and support and
provide for me, let there be light in my heart, light in my sight,
light in my hearing, and light in my own soul."
"O Allaah, improve my religion (faith) which is the prevention of my
affairs, and make my life (in this world) good, wherein is my
livelihood, and make my Hereafter good, wherein is my return."
"O Allaah, lengthen my life for me, for more good deeds, and letdeath
be a consolation for me from all evil deeds."
"O Allaah, the true life is but the life of the Hereafter."
"O Allaah, Give us good in this world, and in the Hereafter, and save
us from the torment of the Fire."
"O Allaah, forgive me (my sins) from before, and the sins to follow."
"O Allaah, forgive me what I have done in secret, and what I have done

What the Shi'ah do on 'Ashoora' of beating their chests, slapping
their cheeks, striking their shoulders with chains and cutting their
heads with swords to let the blood flow are all innovations that have
nobasis in Islam. These things are evils that were forbidden by the
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), who did not
prescribe for his ummah to do any of these thingsor anything similar
to them to mark the death of a leader or the loss of a martyr, no
matter what his status. During his lifetime (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him) a number of senior Sahaabah were martyred and he
mourned their loss, such as Hamzah ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib, Zayd ibn
Haarithah, Ja'far ibn Abi Taalib and 'Abd-Allaah ibn Rawaahah, but he
did not do any of the things that these people do. If it was good, he
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would have done it before
us.
Ya'qoob (peace be upon him) did not strike his chest or scratch his
face, or shed blood or take the day of the loss of Yoosuf as a
festival or day of mourning. Rather he remembered his missing loved
one and felt sad and distressed because of that. This is something no
one can be blamed for. What is forbidden is these actions that have
been inherited from the Jaahiliyyah, and which Islam forbids.
Al-Bukhaari (1294) and Muslim (103) narrated that 'Abd-Allaah ibn
Mas'ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "He is not one of us who
strikes his cheeks, rends his garment, or cries with the cry of the
Jaahiliyyah."
These reprehensible actions that the Shi'ah do on the day of 'Ashoora'
have no basis in Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) did not do them, nor did anyof his companions. Noneof his
companions did them when he or anyone else died, although the loss of

and generous man. But thereis nothing good in what the Shi'ah do of
expressing distress and grief, most of which maybe done in order to
show off. His father was better than him and he was killed, but they
do not take his death as an anniversary as they do with the death of
al-Husayn. His father waskilled on a Friday as he was leaving the
mosque after Fajr prayer, on the seventeenth of Ramadaan in 40 AH.
'Uthmaan was better than 'Ali according to Ahlal-Sunnah wa'l-Jamaa'ah,
and he was killed when he was besieged in his house during the days of
al-Tashreeq in Dhu'l-Hijjah of 36 AH, with his throat cut from one
jugular vein to the other, but the people did not take his death asan
anniversary. 'Umar ibn al-Khattaab was better than 'Ali and 'Uthmaan,
and he was killed as he was standingin the mihraab, praying Fajr and
reciting Qur'aan, but the people did not take his death asan
anniversary. Abu Bakral-Siddeeq was better than him but the people did

and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is the leader of the sons of Adam
in this world and the Hereafter, and Allaahtook him to Him as the

anniversaries on which they do what these ignorant Raafidis do on the
day that al-Husayn was killed. … The best that can be said when
remembering these and similar calamities is that which 'Ali ibn
al-Husayn narrated from his grandfather the Messenger of Allaah (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him), who said: "There is no Muslim
who is afflicted by a calamity and when he remembers it, even if it
was in the dim and distant past, he says InnaLillaahi wa inna ilayhi
raaji'oon (verily to Allaah we belong and unto Him is our return), but
Allaah will give him a reward like that of the day when it befell
him."

And he said (8/220): The Raafidis went to extremes in the state of
Bani Buwayh in the year 400 and thereabouts. The drums were beaten in
Baghdad and other cities on the day of 'Ashoora', and sand and straw
was strewn in the streets and marketplaces, and sackcloth was hung on
the shops, and the people expressed grief and wept. Many of them did
not drink water that night, in sympathy with al-Husayn, because he was
killed when he was thirsty. Then the women went out barefaced, wailing
and slapping their faces and chests, walking barefoot in the
marketplaces, and other reprehensible innovations… What they intended
by these and similar actions is to impugn the state of Banu Umayyah
(the Umayyads), because he was killed during their era.
On the day of 'Ashoora, the Naasibis of Syria do the opposite of what
theRaafidis and Shi'ah do. They used to cook grainson the day of
'Ashoora and do ghusl and perfume themselves, andwear their finest
garments, and they took that day as an Eid for which they made all
kinds of food, and expressed happiness andjoy, intending thereby
toannoy the Raafidis and be different from them.
Celebrating that day is an innovation (bid'ah), and making it an
anniversary for mourning is also an innovation. Hence Shaykh al-Islam
Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
Because of the killing of al-Husayn (may Allaah bepleased with him),
shaytaan caused the people to introduce two innovations: the
innovation of mourning and wailing on the day of 'Ashoora', by
slapping the cheeks, weeping, and reciting eulogies. … and the
innovation of rejoicing and celebrating. … So some introduced mourning
and others introduced celebration, so they regarded the day of
'Ashoora' as a day for wearing kohl, doing ghusl, spending on the
family and making special foods. … And every innovation is a going
astray. None of the four imams of the Muslims or any other (scholars)
regarded either of these things as mustahabb. End quote from Minhaaj
al-Sunnah (4/554).

the enemies of Islam, so that they can achieve their evil aims of
distorting the image of Islam and its followers. Concerning this Moosa
al-Musawi said in his book al-Shi'ah wa'l-Tas-heeh:
But there can be no doubt that striking heads with swords and cutting
the head in mourning for al-Husayn on the tenth day of Muharram
reached Iran and Iraq and India during the British occupation of those
lands. The British are theones who exploited the ignorance and naiveté
of the Shi'ah and their deep love for Imam al-Husayn, and taught them
to strike their heads with swords. Until recently the British
embassies in Tehran andBaghdad sponsored the Husayni parades in which
this ugly spectacleappears in the streets and alleyways. The aim of
the British imperialist policy of developing thisugly spectacle and
exploiting it in the worstmanner was to give an acceptable
justification to the British people andthe free press that opposed
British colonialism in India and other Muslim countries, and to show
the peoplesof these countries as savages who needed someone to save
them from their ignorance and savagery. Images of the parades that
marched in the streets on the day of 'Ashoora', in which thousands of
people were striking their backs with chains and making them bleed,
and striking their heads with daggers and swords, appeared in British
and European newspapers, and the politicians justified their
colonization of these countries on the basis of a humane duty to
colonize the lands of these people whose culture was like that so as
to lead these peoples towards civility and progress. It was said
thatwhen Yaseen al-Haashimi, the Iraqi Prime Minister at the time of
the British occupation of Iraq, visited London to negotiate with the
British for an end to the Mandate, the British saidto him: We are in
Iraq to help the Iraqi people to make progress and attain happiness,
and bring them out of savagery. This angered Yaseen al-Haashimi and he
angrily walked out ofthe room where the negotiations were beingheld,
but the British apologized politely and asked him with all respect to
watch a documentary about Iraq,which turned out to be afilm about the
Husayni marches in the streets of al-Najaf, Karbala' and
al-Kaazimiyyah, showinghorrific and off-putting images of people
striking themselves with daggers and chains. It is as if the British
wanted to tell him: Would an educated people with even a little
civility do such things to themselves?! End quote.

He gives an employee ofthe company a percentage to arrange a meeting between him and the manager
I work in a media and advertising agency. Sometimes an employee from a
company comes and does some work with me, and if he brings me work
from thecompany I give him a percentage, as I give to representatives.
Please note that there is no bidding; rather it is so that he can
arrange a meeting between me and his manager or show him our prices.
Praise be to Allaah.
If there is no bidding and this employee is not responsible for
looking for offers and prices, there is nothing wrong with you giving
him some money or a percentage in return for his help and brokerage.
Shaykh Ibn Baaz (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about the
ruling on looking forsomeone to rent a store or apartment in return
for payment from the one whose request is met.
He replied: There is nothing wrong with that; this is a fee and is
called commission. But you have to try hard to look for a suitable
place that the person wants torent. If you help him with that and find
a suitable place for him, and you help him to come to an agreement on
the rent with the landlord, there is nothing wrong with that, in sha
Allah, on condition that there is no betrayal or deceit; rather it is
done in an honest and truthful manner. If you are honest in looking
for what he wants without any deceit or wrongdoing towards him or
towards the landlord, then you will be fine, in sha Allah.

he came he said: This is for you, and this was given to me. The

on the minbar and praised and glorified Allaah, and said: "What isthe
matter with an agent whom I send, and he says, 'This is for you and
this was given to me'? Why doesn't he sit in the house of his father
or the house of his mother and see if he is given anything or not. By
the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, no one of you gets
anything from it (unlawfully), but he will bring it on the Day of
Resurrection, carryingit on his shoulders, even if it is a groaning
camel, a lowing cow or a bleating sheep." Then heraised his arms and
said: "O Allaah, have I conveyed (the message)?" three times.

Three Tough Questions
There was a young man who went overseas to study for quite a long
time. When he returned, he asked his parents to find him a religious
scholar or any expert who could answer his 3 Questions. Finally, his
parents were able to find a Muslim scholar.
Young man: Who are you? Can you answer my questions?
Scholar: I am one of Allah (SubHana Wa Ta`ala )'s slaves and
Insha-Allah (God willing),I will be able to answer your questions.
Young man: Are you sure? A lot of Professors and experts were not able
to answer my questions.
Scholar: I will try my best, with the help of Allah(SubHana Wa Ta`ala).
Young Man: I have 3 questions:
1. Does God exist? If so, show me His shape.
2. What is takdir (fate)?
3. If shaitan (Devil) was created from the fire, why at the end he
will be thrown to hell that is also created from fire. It certainly
will not hurt him at all, since Shaitan (Devil) and the hell were
created from fire. Did God not think of it this far?
Suddenly, the Scholar slapped the young man'sface very hard.
Young Man (feeling pain): Why do you get angry at me?
Scholar: I am not angry. The slap is my answer to your three questions.
Young Man: I really don'tunderstand.
Scholar: How do you feelafter I slapped you?
Young Man: Of course, I felt the pain.
Scholar: So do you believe that pain exists?
Young Man: Yes.
Scholar: Show me the shape of the pain!
Young Man: I cannot.
Scholar: That is my first answer. All of us feel God's existence
without being able to see His shape... Last night, did you dream that
you will be slapped by me?
Young Man: No.
Scholar: Did you ever think that you will get a slap from me, today?
Young Man: No.
Scholar: That is takdir (fate)........ My hand that Iused to slap you,
what is it created from?
Young Man: It is created from flesh.
Scholar: How about yourface, what is it created from?
Young Man: Flesh.
Scholar: How do you feelafter I slapped you?
Young Man: In pain.
Scholar: Even though Shaitan (Devil) and also the hell were created
from the fire, if Allah wants, insha-Allah (God willing), the hell
will become a very painful place for Shaitan (Devil).

Young man: Who are you? Can you answer my questions?
Scholar: I am one of Allah (SubHana Wa Ta`ala )'s slaves and
Insha-Allah (God willing),I will be able to answer your questions.
Young man: Are you sure? A lot of Professors and experts were not able
to answer my questions.
Scholar: I will try my best, with the help of Allah(SubHana Wa Ta`ala).
Young Man: I have 3 questions:
1. Does God exist? If so, show me His shape.
2. What is takdir (fate)?
3. If shaitan (Devil) was created from the fire, why at the end he
will be thrown to hell that is also created from fire. It certainly
will not hurt him at all, since Shaitan (Devil) and the hell were
created from fire. Did God not think of it this far?

Three Solid Truths
Once, a person was verbally abusing Abu Bakr (RA) while the Prophet
(SAW) was curiously watching with a smile. After taking much abuse
quietly, Abu Bakr responded to a fewof his comments. At this, the
Prophet exhibited his disapproval, got up and left. Abu Bakr caught up
with the Prophet and wondered, 'O Messenger of Allaah, he was abusing
me and you remained sitting. When I responded to him, you disapproved
and got up.' The Messenger of Allaah responded,
'There was an angel with you responding to him. When you responded to
him, Shaytaan took his place.'
He then said,
'O Abu Bakr, there are three solid truths: If a person is wronged and
he forbears it (without seeking revenge) just forthe sake of Allaah
(SWT), Allaah will honour him and give him the upper hand with His
help; if a person opens a door of giving gifts for cementing
relationships with relatives, Allaah willgive him abundance; and, if a
person opens a door of seeking charity for himself to increase his
wealth, Allaah will further reduce his wealth.'
