He withheld from her many details about himself and his family; should she ask for a divorce?

I met my husband at work, we became friends and he had asked me to
marry him;although he lived on his own at the time and was not keeping
in touch with his parents. The story that he told mewas incomplete; he
had told us about his abuse as a child although did not advise that
his mother also beat up his father, on a regular basis. My parents
objected to his parents not being involved in the wedding, although
agreed eventually, based on what my husband had told them about the
parents being well educated with good careers. My husband kept the
details to himself in the fear of my parents not letting him marry me.
Also, because of an abusive childhood,my husband got involved in bad
habits when he left home at the age of 19 ; to cure his depression he
had taken up the hobby of pot smoking. When I methim, I felt bad for
him and after much speculation, agreed to mary him on one condition,
that he wouldgive up pot smoking.
7 years and two childrenlater, last yr, I find out alldetails on how
his parents and other familyis,(that his mother is a sadist)& also
discovered that he still smokes up on rare occasions.
This puts me off completely and I am not attracted o him anymore. I
discussed thiswith him in details and when I asked him to promise him
not to smoke weed again, he exclaimed that he cannot promise me this.
This breaks my heart, I feel like I was taken advantage of, and was
very naive to have believed in him. I regret my decision and think I
could have done so much better than him. We dont make a good
couple...because of his lifestyle pre-marriage, he is overweight and I
find it hard to feel attracted towards him.
Mind you he does pray maghrib at the mosque every now and then.
Please advise if I am crazy for thinking this and should I just move
on ignoring this.
Praise be to Allaah.
With regard to your husband smoking hashish (weed, pot), or consuming
other intoxicants or drugs, thisrequires a great deal of struggle and
advice, andseeking help from good and righteous people, sothat he can
give up this evil habit. If you find that he responds and is sincere,
this is what you want, but if you do not get that response from him,
then in that case there is no doubt that you have the right to askfor
a divorce and to annull your marriage with him.
But in fact dealing with this matter requires looking at various
aspects of your life, including your children if you have children,
andwhat will happen to them after this divorce; will you be able to
take care of them and look after them, or not? If youdo not have
children, then the matter is easier.
You mentioned that he prays. If he prays regularly or he prays most of
the time, but he does not pray in the mosque, then even though he has
done something reprehensible, there is still hope for him so longas he
still prays.
But if he does not pray at all, there is nothing good in him for you
and such a person does not deserve to have you staywith him.
See the answer to question no. 47335 and 172999 .
We advise you to fear Allah, may He be glorified and exalted.
Fulfilling the rights of Allah and obeying Him, and fulfilling the
husband's rights, are among the most important means of solving
marital problems. Moreover you should understand that whatever trials
befall an individual in his wealth, his family or his child, may stem
from himself in the first place: "And whatever of misfortune befalls
you, it is because of what your hands haveearned" [ash-Shoora 42:30].
So we advise you to be patient with your husband whilst continuing to
offer sincere advice and praying for him, until Allah sets him
straight. Please see the answers to questions no. 9497 , 142326 and
32450 for means that will help you to deal with the problems you have
mentioned.
If he mends his ways, all well and good; otherwise you can ask for a
divorce if you cannot be patient with your husband's annoyances and
can no longer carry on living with him, or if you fear for yourself,
your religious commitment oryour children if you stay with him.

He feels distressed and sad when he remembersthe past, before he repented

am a born muslim, alhamdulillah.i started practising from last year
until now.i have full beard,i dont smoke,no girlfriend,dontwatch
films.i am always try to spend more times for gaining knowledge.but
recently ifeel depressed,my past memories are killing me,i always feel
scared when talking to peoples,i am getting ill so often, which hurting
me,even when i pray i feel that my prayer,my duaa is not gonna
accept.i am on hardship, difficulties as well.but i dont speak about
this problems to anyone, because i believe that only Allah can help me
out from this problem.i feel like i am doing something seriously
wrong.notice that sometimes i dont pray fajar on time.is it the main
reason?
Praise be to Allah.
Firstly, we congratulate you for having repented to Allah; He has
blessed you by enabling you to give up sin and disobedience and a life
of idle pursuits. This great blessing requires you to protect it by
turning to Allah, calling upon Him, beseeching Him and always
remembering Him, may He be glorified and exalted. All of that will
strengthen the heart and make you steadfast in adhering to the path of
obedience, and it will ward off the doubts and hesitations that have
come to you recently.
Secondly, with regard towhat has befallen you recently, there are
several reasons for that:
· Part of it is because you have become very withdrawn after
you were guided, but being guided has nothing to do with this
withdrawal. You could have chosen good people to mix withand make
friends with; in fact even if you mixedwith people who were not like
that, you could have focused on showing them the way to repent and
turn back to Allah. Being religiously committed does not mean at all
thatyou should stay away from people. Even when seeking knowledge, a
person can always look for friends to sit with in the class and who
can help you to revise. This ishow the social nature of human beings
always is, but their aims and behaviour may vary. Undoubtedly keeping
away from the friends you had in the past is a beneficial kind of
withdrawal, and it may be obligatory in some cases. But it will be
helpful to you to replace the friends of the past with other friends
who are righteous and can help you to adhere to the path of guidance,
console you and strengthen your resolve. Allah, may He be exalted, says
(interpretation of the meaning):
"And keep yourself (O Muhammad SAW) patiently with those who call on
their Lord (i.e. your companions who remember their Lord with
glorification, praising in prayers, etc., and other righteous deeds,
etc.) morning andafternoon, seeking His Face, and let not your eyes
overlook them, desiring the pomp and glitter of the life of the world;
and obey not himwhose heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance,
one who follows his own lusts andwhose affair (deeds) hasbeen lost"
[al-Kahf 18:28].
· Part of it may be your thinking of some memories of the past.
This will inevitably happen, because you areat the beginning of the
path and the Shaytaan will never leave you alone; he will put in
yourmind images and scenes and thoughts that you used to be part of,
not solong ago. But be of goodcheer, for this difficulty and these
thoughts will soon disappear, in sha Allah, so long as you remain
steadfast on the path of guidance and adhere to righteous conduct.
· The doubts that arise in your own mind and the thoughts that
come to you from everywhere are the whispers of the Shaytaan that you
must ward off forcefully, seek refuge with Allah from them, and
constantly callupon Allah (in du'aa') and ask Him to make youstrong
and to save you from the Shaytaan and his whispers. Remember that
Allah, may He be exalted, has no need of us and our deeds, and that
Allah accepts our imperfect worship by Hiskindness and grace, and He
will reward for it and multiply the reward, out of His grace, kindness
and generosity. For Allahis Appreciative and Forbearing, may He be
glorified; He accepts a little and gives much. He is as His slave
thinks He is, may He be glorified and exalted, so do not think
negatively of your Lord, for Allah is Most Kind and Most Generous.
· As for your negligence with regard to Fajr prayer, it is
undoubtedly a major shortcoming on your part and is something that you
should hasten to set straight. A good start is indicative of good
progress on the path, so how about if your day begins with
disobedience towards Allah and heedlessness concerning one of His
greatest commands, and one of His greatest rightsover His slaves,
which is prayer offered on time? The Prophet (blessings and peace of
Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever prays Fajr is under the protection
of Allah, but anyone who falls short with regard tothe rights of
Allah, then Allah will seize him and will throw him into the Fire of
Hell." Narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh, 657. So do not deprive
yourself and do not exclude yourself from the protection of your Lord
and His shielding ofHis slave against his enemy. Do not deprive
yourself of all of that by being careless with regard to praying Fajr
atthe beginning of its timewith the congregation in the mosque, lest
your enemy gain power over you when you are the one who is bringing
thatupon yourself if you do that (neglect Fajr).
May Allah make things easy for you, relieve your worry and distress,
and make you steadfast in adhering to the straight path.
And Allah knows best.

Does Islam allow wife beating?

Respected scholars! Does Islam allow wife beating? Some husbands are
violent and they say that the Qur'an allows them tobeat their wives.
Is there any logical explanation given regarding men being allowed to
beat their wives, as stated in surat An-Nisa', verse 34?
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be
upon HisMessenger.
Dear questioner, we would like to thank you for the great confidence
you place in us, and we implore Allah Almighty to help us serve His
cause and render our work for His Sake.
The verse you mention has been greatly misconceived by many people who
focus merely on its surface meaning, taking it to allow wife beating.
When the setting is not taken into account, it isolates the words in a
way that distorts or falsifies the original meaning. Before dealing
with the issue of wife-battering in the perspective of Islam, we
should keep in mind that the original Arabic wording of the Qur'an is
the only authentic sourceof meaning. If one relies on the translation
alone, one is likely to misunderstand it.
Commenting on this issue, Dr. Muzammil H. Siddiqi, former President of
the Islamic Society of North America, states:
"According to the Qur'an the relationship betweenthe husband and wife
should be based on mutual love and kindness. Allah says: "Andamong His
Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves,
that ye may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and
mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who
reflect." (Ar-Rum: 21)
The Qur'an urges husbands to treat their wives with kindness. [In the
event of a family dispute, the Qur'an exhorts the husband to treat his
wife kindly and not to overlook her positive aspects]. Allah Almighty
says: "Live with them on a footing of kindness and equity. If yetake a
dislike to them it may be that ye dislike a thing, and Allah brings
about through it a great deal of good." (An-Nisa': 19)
It is important that a wiferecognizes the authority of her husband in
the house. He is the head of the household, and she issupposed to
listen to him.But the husband should also use his authority with
respect and kindness towards his wife. If there arises any
disagreement or dispute among them, then it should be resolved in a
peaceful manner. Spouses should seek the counsel of their elders and
other respectable family members and friends to batch up the rift and
solve the differences.
However, in some cases ahusband may use some light disciplinary action
in order to correct the moral infraction of his wife, but this is only
applicable in extreme cases and it should be resorted to if one is
sure it would improve the situation. However, if there is a fear that
it might worsen the relationship or may wreak havoc on him or the
family, then he should avoid it completely.
The Qur'an is very clear on this issue. Almighty Allah says: "Men are
the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the
one more strength than the other, and because they support them from
their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient and
guard in the husband's absence what Allah would have them to guard. As
to those women on whose part you fear disloyalty and ill-conduct,
admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last)
beatthem (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seeknot against
them means (of annoyance); for Allah is most High and Great (above you
all). If you fear a breach between them twain, appoint (two) arbiters,
one from his family and the other from hers. If they wish for peace,
Allah will causetheir reconciliation; for Allah has full knowledge and
is acquainted with all things." (An-Nisa': 34-35)
It is important to read the section fully. One should not take part of
the verse and use it to justify one's own misconduct. This verse
neither permits violence nor condones it. It guidesus to ways to
handle delicate family situation with care and wisdom. The word
"beating" is used in the verse, but it does not mean "physical abuse".
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained it"dharban
ghayra mubarrih" which means"a light tap that leaves nomark". He
further said that face must be avoided. Some other scholars are of the
view that it is no more than a light touch by siwak, or toothbrush.
Generally, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to
discourage his followers from taking even this measure. He never hit
any female, and he used to say that the best of men are those who do
not hit their wives. In one hadith he expressed his extreme repulsion
from this behavior and said, "How does anyone of you beat his wife as
hebeats the stallion camel and then embrace (sleep with) her?"
(Al-Bukhari, English Translation, vol. 8,Hadith 68, pp. 42-43)
It is also important to note that even this "light strike" mentioned
in the verse is not to be used to correct some minor problem, but it
is permissible to resort to only in a situation of some serious moral
misconduct when admonishing the wife fails, and avoiding from sleeping
with her would not help. If this disciplinary action can correct a
situation and save the marriage, then one should use it."
Dr. Jamal Badawi, professor at Saint Mary's University in Halifax,
Nova Scotia, Canada, and a cross-appointed faculty member in the
Departments of Religious Studies and Management, adds:
"If the problem relates to the wife's behavior, the husband may exhort
her and appeal for reason. In most cases, this measure is likely to be
sufficient. In cases where the problem persists, the husband may
express his displeasure in another peaceful manner, by sleeping in a
separate bed from hers. There are cases, however, in which a wife
persists in bad habits and showing contempt of her husbandand
disregard for her marital obligations. Instead of divorce, the husband
may resort to another measure that may save the marriage, at least in
some cases. Such a measure is more accurately described as a gentle
tap on the body, but never on the face, making it more of a symbolic
measure than a punitive one.
Even here, that maximummeasure is limited by the following:
a. It must be seen as a rare exception to the repeated exhortation of
mutual respect, kindness and good treatment. Based on the Qur'an and
Hadith, this measure may be used in the cases of lewdness on the part
of the wife or extreme refraction and rejection of the husband's
reasonable requests on a consistent basis (nushuz).Even then, other
measures, such as exhortation, should be tried first.
b. As defined by Hadith, itis not permissible to strike anyone's face,
cause any bodily harm or even be harsh. What the Hadith qualifies
as"dharban ghayra mubarrih", or light striking, was interpreted by
early jurists as a (symbolic) use of siwak! They further qualified
permissible "striking" as that which leaves no mark on the body. It is
interesting that this latterfourteen-centuries-old qualifier is the
criterion used in contemporary American law to separatea light and
harmless tap or strike from "abuse" in the legal sense. This makes it
clear that even this extreme, last resort, and "lesser of the two
evils" measure that may save a marriage does not meet the definitions
of"physical abuse," "family violence, " or "wife battering" in the
20th century law in liberal democracies, where such extremes are so
commonplace that they are seen as national concerns.
c. The permissibility of such symbolic expression of the seriousness
of continued refraction does not imply its desirability. In several
hadiths, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) discouraged
this measure. Here are some of his sayings in this regard:
"Do not beat the female servants of Allah";
"Some (women) visited my family complaining about their husbands
(beating them). These (husbands) are not the best of you."
In another hadith the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is
reported to have said: "How does anyone of youbeat his wife as he
beats the stallion camel and then he may embrace (sleep with) her?"
d. True following of the Sunnah is to follow the example of the
Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who never resorted to that
measure,regardless of the circumstances.
e. Islamic teachings are universal in nature. They respond to the
needs andcircumstances of diverse times, cultures and circumstances.
Some measures may work in some cases and cultures or with certain
persons but may not be effective in others. By definition,
a"permissible" act is neither required, encouraged or forbidden. In
fact it may be to spell out the extent of permissibility, such as in
the issue at hand, rather than leaving it unrestricted or unqualified,
or ignoring it all together. In the absence of strict qualifiers,
persons may interpret the matter in their own way, which can lead to
excesses and real abuse.
f. Any excess, cruelty, family violence, or abuse committed by
any"Muslim" can never be traced, honestly, to any revelatory text
(Qur'an orHadith). Such excesses and violations are to be blamed on
the person(s) himself, as it shows that they are paying lip service to
Islamic teachings and injunctions and failing tofollow the true Sunnah
ofthe Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."

Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal

Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal was born in the city of Baghdad during the month
of Rabi-ul Awwal 164 A.H. His father passed away either before he was
born or shortly afterwards, and itwas his mother who diligently
brought up theImam.
Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal's Education
He acquired his childhood education through the Maktab but even there
his piety and scholarly character were recognised. Abu Afeef (r.a)
has reported, AhmadIbn Hanbal (r.a) was within our learning group at
the Maktab. At that time he was very young, and we, as students were
aware of his piety. Having completed his basic education at the age
of 16, the Imam went on to study ahadith by attending the study
circles of Qazi Imam Abu Yusuf (r.a).
Having acquired knowledge from the scholars of Baghdad, his zeal for
learning took him to different parts of the world including
Kufa,Basra, Yemen, Makkah , Madinah and Syria, to benefit from their
great scholars. Sometimes, during long and difficult journies to
acquire ahadith, the Imam had toresort to manual work in order to
cover his expenses.
Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal's Teachers
Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal had many teachers, amongst the most prominent
was Imam Shafiee (r.a) whom he met on several separate occasions and
each time he took full benefit of the opportunity. Imam Ahmad ibn
Hanbal commented, 'Only after sitting in the Majlis of Imam Shafiee
(r.a) did I understand and comprehend nasikh and mansukh hadith.' One
should remember , the Imam was an accomplished scholar even before he
met Imam Shafiee.
It was only at the age of forty, in 204 A.H., the Imam began formally
teaching hadith. Whilst his teachers were still alive he refused to
teach and narrate hadith out ofhumility and respect for them. Imam
Ahmad was acknowledged by the Ulama of his time as the Imam ul Hadith.
Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal's books
Amongst his publications, the more famous are Kitab ul Musnad (based
upon 30,000 ahadith), Kitab ul Tafseer, Kitab us Salaah, Kitab us
Sunnah, Kitab un Nasikh and Mansukh and others.
The Imam dressed very simply and disliked clothes which created a
false awe. He wore a turban, white clothes and a shawl. He never
accepted gifts offered by rulers and the affluent out of caution.
Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal died on the blessed day of Friday in Rabi ul
Awwal 241 A.H at the age77, after a period of illness which lasted
nine days. The news of the Imams death soon spreadand after Jumuah
more than 850,000 people performed his janazah prayer with the rows
formed in the city, streets, bazaars and evenon boats on the river
Tigris. Even the non-Muslims mourned the passing away of Imam Ahmad
ibn Hanbal.

Imam Shafi’ee

Imam Muhammad Ibn Idress Shafi'ee was born in Ghazah, Palestine in the
year 150 AH. Imam Shafi'ee was a descendent from the Hashimi family of
the Quaraish tribe to which the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم)
belonged. His father diedaround the time of his birth and his mother
migrated to Makkah with Imam Shafi'ee when he was 2 years of age.
During his youth Imam Shafi'ee excelled in 2 activities: acquisition
of deeni ilm and archery. Bythe age of 7 Imam Shafi'ee had memorised
the Qur'an and at ten years of age he had committed the Mu'atta of
Imam Malik to memory.
At the age of 13 with his mother's permission Imam Shafi'ee departed
Makkah arrived in Madinah at the door of Imam Malik.
Teachers
His uncle, Muhammed IbnAli Ibn Shafi'ee
Imam Malik
Imam Muhammad ibnul Hassan Shaybanee
Imam Waqee'
Imam Sufyan ibn Uyaynah
Imam Shafi'ee is reported to have written over 150 books.
Imam Shafi'ee was an expert in both Hanafi and Maliki fiqh. From which
came about the Shafi'ee fiqh, which was spread by his students.
Imam Shafi'ee is a great role model, for both men and women. Never did
he speak a lie, and his hands reached out to thepoor generously.
Imam Muhammad said about him: The door of Fiqh was shut to the people,
Allah opened it because of Imam Shafi'ee.
Imam Shafi'ee died in Cairo, Egypt, on FRIDAY evening after Maghrib,

Islamic Medicine

al-Kadhim (AS) has said:
Stay away from the treatment of physicians as long as you are well. It
is similar to a building, a little of it leads too much.
al-Hasan (AS) remarks:
Every medication stirs up an illness, and there is nothing more
beneficial for the body than withholding from it all except what it
requires.
The Infallible (AS) have further cautioned us to avoid medications as
long as the body can bear the illness. Natural medicines used by the
Prophet (S) were simple and non-artificial remedies. They were all
designed to stimulate thehealing process within a person. Neither he,
nor any of his companions even used any synthetics, pharmaceutical or
composite chemicals (al-Akili, 1993).
Clearly, Hippocrates preferred and prescribedherbal remedies first,
andif these did not work, he resorted to alternative methods, mostly
drugs (Becker, 1990). The herbs, according to healers at that time,
assisted in balancing the energy flow within the sick person. Also,
these herbalpreparations and natural whole food vitamin supplements
have a strong ability to play a significant role in the energetic
system of the body. Brennan (1987) postulates further that herbal
preparations and vitamins may significantly affect the human energy in
a positive manner and fasten the healing process.
Herbs and whole foods asroot vegetables are rich with electrical
energy derived from the earth and have more grounding power
(Poole,1999). Because all living things possess a life force, even
such herbs can have significant effects on the human body via their
electrical properties. Pharmaceutical grade drugs contain within their
structure the most unstable and unsteady electrical matrix, together
with unfavorable, confusing and altered info-energy, and consuming
them on a daily basis is the real cause of many of the major illnesses
in this present society. Herbal and food preparations for medicinal
purposes are natural, and many of their families contain researched
medicinal qualities. Therefore, to consume these herbs andfoods when
ill will help balance the blockages in the energy field brought about
by sickness and ailment, as well as physical complaints.
Reporting in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Dr.
Lucien Leape of Harvard School of Public Health, has calculated that:
180,000 people die in theU.S. each year partly as a result of
iatrogenic injury(injury caused by medicines), the equivalent of 3
jumbo jets crashes every two days.
In another issue, the journal points out that:
Injury from medical treatment in the U.S. dwarfs the annual automobile
accident mortality of 45,000 and accounts for more deathsthan all
other accidents combined.
An average 50% of patients return to their medical doctors simply
because of medically - induced problems. Further, most of the medical
drugs in existence 30 years ago cannot now be used because of their
discovered toxic effects! This is exactly why approximately 15% of
hospital days are devotedto the treatment of drug side effects.
Furthermore, recent surveys from the United Kingdom and America have
shown thatas many as 80% of patients feel that their underlying
complaint, their reason for going to the doctor, was not
satisfactorily resolved when they left the office (Chopra, 1990).
Pharmaceutical Drugs and Electrical Damage
Pharmaceutical grade drugs significantly affect the energy (Brennan,
1987; Margo von Phul, 2000) and traditional healers and energy
scientists have thoroughly documented such reports. To report from one
such health-care professional, Brennan (1987) has observed dark energy
forms in the liver left from drugs taken for various diseases. She
alsoreports chemotherapy to clog the whole energy field, especially
the liver, with greenish-brown mucus-like energy.
To her amazement, she also saw a radiopaque dye that was used to
observe the spine that was injected into the spinal column to diagnose
injury ten yearsafter injection, although it is supposed to clear
thebody in a month or two. She even observed side effects of certain
drugs inher patients as many as ten years after the drug was taken.
The example she gives concerns a drugfor hepatitis that was causing
immune deficiencies five years later. A red dye placed in the spinal
column for exploratory purposes was inhibiting the healing of spinal
nerves ten years later. Apparently, Shamanic healers have also been
reported to observe such energy blockages and disruption in energy
flowin sick patients.
Such kinds of observations are true and have been extensively reported
in scientific research. With proper training, the eyes can be taught
by the mind to physically see beyond normal vision and witness the
energy of thoughts, emotions, and life itself manifestingin every
human being.
A common side effect of all drugs is not talked about - the nutrients
thatare stripped away and depleted by taking medication. These
vitamins, minerals and enzymes are used up in the process of
processingand detoxifying all drugs.Diuretics wash potassium,
magnesium, sodium, zinc and vitamin B2 right out of your body;
antacids steal vitamins A and B1, folic acid, calcium, copper, iron
and phosphorous from your tissues; antibiotics deplete numerous
vitamins - B2, C, D, niacin, folic acid, biotin, and so forth. The
stealing of such minerals and vitamins from the body tissues create
significant electrical damage to the cells as most of the
above-mentioned elements playsignificant roles in the body's
electrical processes, and in turn affect the energy system. Side
effects and diseases caused from medicines will further develop
blockage to our energy system, as we become weaker and lethargic. The
only way to balance and charge this energy around oneself when ill is
to try herbal and wholefood preparations that will provide balance and
health to the system. Moreover, the electrical properties of such
herbals and foods will most definitely strengthen the human energy
system, thereby hastening the healing process. Even further, many
medicines have metals and exposure to many of them can lead
toillnesses. Emoto (2004) found in his experiments that Aluminum, for
example, has a similar vibration frequency to sadness, anger to lead,
uncertainty to Cadmium, and stress to Zinc. Therefore, these metals
can and do cause illnesses - as Alzheimer's is believed to be caused
by excessive Aluminum.
Islam Prefers Natural Medicine over Drugs
The preferred method of medical therapy in Islamic Medicine during the
time of the Prophet (S) and the Infallible (AS), and during the reign
of the most revered Islamic physicians, the like of Ali Ibn Rabban
al-Tabari, (838-870 A.D.), Mohamed Ibn Zakariya al-Razi, (864-930
A.D.), and Ibn Sina, (980-1037 A.D.) was a scheme starting with
nutritional therapy. If this failed, drugs were employed. al-Akili
(1993) writes that in May of 1970, the World Health Organization (WHO)
paid tribute to Abu Bakr Muhammad Ibn Zakariya al-Razi by stating
that, so important a physician al-Razi was that the well-known writer
George Sarton wrote in his Introduction to the History of Science,
that al-Razi was the greatest physician of the medievalages. In
addition, al-Razi confirmed his preferred method of treatment by
saying:
If a medical doctor can treat a patient through nutrition rather than
medicine, he has done the best thing.
Electrical Power of Herbs and Foods
Herbal preparations carryand store within them the earth's higher
frequency vibrations, andessential systemic memories that reflect
thewholeness of the plants and its history (Schwartz and Russek,
1999). Further, it is highly probable that the Almighty Allah (SWT)
Himself has allowed higher frequencies of energy within these plants
and implanted specific restorative info-energy in them. These plants
know what to do when ingested by humans and animal. A good example
involves a plant that the ancient people used to eat to reduce
cravings for food in times of hunger. The herb literally sends message
to the brain thatit is filled and satiated.
Apparently, Allah (SWT) has given such power to humans and has allowed
such relationship with plants. Shamans are a group of people who are
reported to have been observed to develop suchrelationships. Shamans
talk with plants and animals, with all of nature. They do it in an
altered state of consciousness. Students of Shamanism rapidly discover
that by talking with plants, they can discover how to prepare those
plants for remedies. Shamans have been doing this since ancient times.
They typically know a great deal about plants.
Harner (1997) reports that one shaman is reported to have developed a
practice of discovering and using healing plants based on his learning
directly fromthe plants. Later, he found that the pharmacopoeia he
developed was very closeto the ancient, classic Chinese pharmacopoeia
knowledge of how to prepare and use these plants for different
ailments. Another former Shaman in Germany worked with minerals and
found how they could be used in healing. It turned out that her
discoveries were very close to what has been known in India from
ancient times.
A good example is a tradition from the Prophet (S) that eating 21
raisins reduces allergies. Apparently, the number 21 may also havea
strong meaning, for Allah may have developed this relationship between
Him and the raisins, and that if consumed 21 of them, the raisins
become medicinal. Drinking water in 7 sips has been advised for
stopping hiccups. The number 40 has even superior qualities and
Ayatullah Najm al-Din Kubra (1221) has devoted a whole chapter to this
number inhis book A Treatise on Wayfaring. He says:
We have seen clearly (through direct experience) and known through the
statements (of the sages) that this noble instance from among the
instances pertaining to numbers has a particular significance and a
specialeffectiveness in the development of inner potentialities and
the perfection of enduring qualities and in covering the stages and
traversingthe phases (of wayfaring).
Relevant to previous and forthcoming sections in this book, he quotes
the following tradition by al-Majlisi (1627) in Biharul-Anwar - Volume
14, Page 512:
Verily, if one recites the Chapter of al-Hamd forty times on water and
poursit on someone suffering from fever, God shall curehim.
It is further reported thatwriting 40 times the chapter of al-Inshirah
with saffron on a piece of paper, and the ailing person soaks the
writingsin water and drinks it for 40 days, his kidney stoneswould
break-down into small pieces for elimination. Clearly, (and as we have
noted) the verses of al-Qur'an store much coherent vibrationsand
powerful force fieldsof energy to affect the person in a physiological
manner. Water has a similar strength.
We have noted earlier (and mentioned later) the advantages of reciting
such couplets or Chapters from Qur'an on water or foods. The water not
only has the ability to store the pure and unadulterated info-energy
in its memory but also transfer this vibrant and healing energy to the
sick personand transforms the faults in his or her energy system. The
only difference now is that the number 40 is associated with the
specific healing abilities. Water and food are able to understand such
communications as explained by Emoto (2004). He writes:
Water records information, and then while circulating throughout the
earth distributes information. The water crystals that are formed when
water is shown positive words are simply beautiful. The response to
water of loveand gratitude is nothing less than grandeur.
Thesepositive words give spiritto water.
The power of words, or incantation on water andfood has been
rigorously investigated and Emoto (2004) writes in his book that
besides him, other scientists have also been able to show the effect
ofprayer on water - energy from the spirit of words seem to do the
change (and become a healing source). Even lakes have been observed to
respond to prayer (to harden) and certain words. Science and medicine
has only now appreciated the beneficial aspects of honey and bee
by-products, olive, figs, and so forth. All of these foods have been
mentioned in Qur'an, the honey specifically mentioned as a cure for
people.
Then eat all the fruits andwalk in the ways of your Lord submissively.
There comes out from within it (bee) a fluid of different colors in
which there is a healing for men. Surely, there is a sign in this for
people who reflect.
(al-Qur'an - Chapter 16, Verse 69)
Live foods and fresh fruits have been largely documented to assist in
balancing one's energy (Morse (2000) quoting Alice, (1996).
Practitioners of natural medicine further agree that the effect of
herbal preparations and foods deal with the underlying disease
mechanism, such as an immune deficiency or dysfunction rather than
dealing with the superficial symptoms. Consequently, the effect is
truly curative and not just symptomatic or palliative in nature.
The second feature is that the therapeutic effect is restorative in
nature regardless of direction of the abnormality. This is usually a
common feature of natural herbs and other natural therapeutic
modalities, unlike synthetic pharmacological preparations where
theireffect is usually in one direction and progressivewith increasing
doses beyond the desirable normal range.

PROTECTION FROM FEVER

Tibb al-A`immah: Narrated from ~Amr Dhi Qurrah and Tha~labah al-Ja m

upon the Noble Prophet XE " Holy Prophet " 9 so Jibra`¢l came to him
and recited the following invocation:
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ أُرْقِيكَ، بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ أَشْفِيكَ مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ

Then the Prophet 9 stood up (cured) from that which had tied him down

Aayat al-Kursi Quran 2:255- 7

بِسْمِ اللّ ٰ هِ الرَّحْم ٰ نِ الرَّحِيم In the Name of Allah, the
Most Gracious, the Most Merciful .
2.255: Allah is He besides Whom there is no god, the Everliving, the
Self-subsisting by Whom all subsist; slumber does not overtake Him nor
sleep; whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is His;
who is he that can intercede with Him but by His permission? He knows
what is before them and what is behind them, andthey cannot comprehend
anything out of His knowledge except what He pleases, His knowledge
extends over the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of them
both tires Him not, and He is the Most High, the Great.
2.256: There is no compulsion in religion; truly the right way has
become clearly distinct from error; therefore, whoever disbelieves in
the Shaitan and believes in Allah he indeed has laid hold on the
firmest handle, which shall not break off, and Allah is Hearing,
Knowing.
2.257: Allah is the guardian of those who believe. He brings them out
of the darkness into the light; and (as to) those who disbelieve,
their guardians are Shaitans who take them out of the light into the
darkness; they are the inmates of the fire, in it they shall abide.

Dua'a Mashlool دعاء المشلول

This du-a'a known as"supplication of the youth stricken for his sin,"
is quoted from the work of Kaf-ami and from Muhaj al Da-wat by Sayyid
ibn tawus. Through Imam Hussain(as) it is reported that one day he and
his father, after performing Hajj, caught sight of aparalysed young
man crying his eyes out in repentance. They went near to console him
and find out the reason of his sorry plight. He was a habitual sinner,
always teased his father, disobeyed him and treated him with contempt.
One day, disgusted, the father invoked curse upon him. So he was
affected with paralysis. Then and there Imam Ali ibn abi Talib(as)
wrote his dua'a and gave it to him with instruction to recite after
Isha salat. Next day fully cured, he came to Imam Ali and said that he
had recited the dua'aas told and went to sleep. He sawthe Holy
prophet(sa) in the dream. The holy prophet, gently touched his body
with his hand and asked him to remember this dua'a as it contain ismi
azam (thegreat name of Allah).
Recite this dua'a after Isha salat. It brings countless blessings. All
your legitimate desires will be fulfilled. It drives away poverty and
sickness. Sins are for given. Debts are cleared. Enemies become
friends. Domestic affairs are set aright. Disputes are settled in your
favour. Prisoners are set free mental worries disappear. Prosperity,
sound mind and healthy body stand by you at all times.
Mercy and forgiveness of sins are the main advantages the almighty
Allah makes available if this dua'a is recited regularly.

Quiet the Noise and Weep Before Allah

Road repair! Televisions blaring! Radios playing, phones ringing,
appliances beeping, traffic roaring, horns honking, commercials, mall
music, elevator music… That's the external noise.
Then there is shame, worrying about the bills, frustration over
relationships, guilt, anger, resentment… That's the internal noise.
There's so much clamor in our lives, outside and inside, that we can't
hearour own hearts anymore. We can't hear Allah's guidance, or we don't
recognize it when we do.
We need to find moments of total silence to pray, make dua', read
Quran, contemplate Allah… We need periods of uninterrupted calm to get
back in touch with our fitrah , that pure nature given to us by Allah.
We need to confesseverything to Allah, lay ourselves bare before him
and beg forgiveness, then forgive ourselves for what we've done, and
pardon others who have harmed us, so that we can get rid of the
baggage of bitterness and anger.
We must open our eyes to the clear light of Allah's huda (guidance),
and have tranquility in our hearts, and quiet in our minds, so we can
recognize the guidance when it comes.
We cannot silence the modern world. But we can make personal changes.
It's okay to haveperiods of silence in our lives. We don't
constantlyhave to have our phones or MP3 players with us, orbe
listening to lectures… We don't have be doing something every momentof
the day.
So many of us are afraid to be alone and silent because that's when
the disturbing thoughts come: resentment over the way someone
treatedus, regret over a lost love, shame over things we've done in the
past, anxiety about the future. Believe me, I know exactly what that's
like.
It's okay to feel those things. In fact we need to feel those things,
to deal with them and confront them. When those feelings come we can
turn to Allah and say, "Ya Allah, I have made mistakes, forgive me. I
am lost, please guide me. I am worried, help me." Let the tears come.
Weep before Allah. Those tears are precious to Him. Allah, the
Exalted, says:
"And they fall down on their faces weeping and it increases their
humility." (17:109)
Abu Umamah Sudaiy bin `Ajlan Al-Bahili (May Allah be pleased with him)
reported: The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said:
"Nothing is dearer to Allah than two drops and two marks: A drop of
tears shed out of consciousness of Allah, and a drop of blood shedin
Allah's way. Regarding the two marks, they are: Marks left in the
Cause of Allah and a mark left in observing one of the obligatory acts
of worship of Allah, the Exalted." [At-Tirmidhi].
And if tears do not come, that's okay too. As long asyou are honest
with yourself and with Allah, and turn to Him with sincerity and
humility, that's what matters.
Find a place that is your special place, a refuge where you can be
alone to pray, recite Quran, do dhikr, meditate and think. Amid the
chaos and noise of modern life, take time to be alone with your Lord.
For me that place is in mybedroom with the door closed and the lights
dimmed, late at night when everyone is asleep. I sit on the floor on a
musalla and confess everything to Allah. But I also want to find an
outside refuge, someplace in nature.
Do you already have a special place like that? Tell me about it. And
if you don't, then your mission is to find such a place, then comment
here and tell me about it Insha'Allah.

A Gate in Paradise Called Ar-Rayyaan

The holy month of Ramadan is a time of sacrifice, purification,
worship, charity and forgiveness, all to bring us closer to our
Creator.
There are so many blessings and benefits to fasting in Ramadan. Some
are physical, some are spiritual, and some relate purely to our
aakhirah.
Among these blessings is the right to enter through Bab Ar-Rayyaan:
Narrated Sahl (ra) : The Prophet (sws – peace be upon him) said,
"Indeed, there is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Rayaan . On the Day of
Resurrection, those who fasted will enter it and none except them will
enter. It will be said, 'Where are those who used to fast?' They will
arise and none except them will enter it. After their entry, the gate
will be closed and none will enter it."
[Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3,Book 31, Number 120]
Many Muslims have heardthis hadith, but most don't know the meaning of
this name, "Ar-Rayyaan" . In fact I was at the masjid recently for a
Ramadan class and I asked the Imam this question and he did not know.
So when I got home I looked it up: the linguistic meaning of
Ar-Rayyaan is something that is well-watered, and therefore lush,
succulent and beautiful…
Doesn't it sound lovely? I imagine it surrounded bywater, maybe a
river, stream, or a waterfall… A tall and shining gate, beautifully
decorated, silver or golden… Allah knows best.
I want to walk through that gate, and I want the same for my daughter
Salma. At this moment, I want that more than anything else I can
imagine… if I achieve that, then I will have succeeded in life.
Fasting is a Key
Why should there be a gateway to Jannah only for those who fast? What
is so special about fastingfor only month every year, as opposed to
praying every day, or making the great effort of Hajj, or giving one's
hard-earned money in charity, or any other important Islamic deed?
Actually we know from various saheeh hadeeth (authentic narrations of
the Prophet) that there are many gates to Jannah. Some will reward
people who perform specific actions, and according to the Prophet
(sws), certain individuals willed be called to all the gates, and may
enter from whichever they choose. SubhanAllah. This is a fascinating
subject in its own right. However, Bab Ar-Rayyaan has been mentioned
quite prominently in the narrations. It is clearly an important and
privilegedgate.
Why is that?
Fasting is designed to putus into a state of hyper-awareness of Allah.
Hasanal-Basri said,
"By Allah, in the last twenty years, I have not said a word or taken
something with my hand or refrained to take something with my hand or
stepped forth or stepped back, except thatI have thought before I have
done any action, 'Does Allah love this action? Is Allah pleased with
this action?'"
This is how we should be when fasting. The fast is a highly personal
act of worship between the servant and the Creator. It's an invisible
act. Whenyou pray or perform tawaaf, you can be seen by others, so
there is always the risk of one's intention being tainted by the
desire to be seen or admired. However, when we are fasting, no one can
look at us and know that we are fasting. Even in Ramadan,a person
could eat or drink secretly. It is an honor system. That is why Allah
said in a hadithqudsi, "Fasting is for Me and I reward it."
(al-Bukhari)
Another truth is that fasting is difficult. It is more arduous than
salat, or giving sadaqah. When done properly, fasting can be very
hard, especially in summer or in hot climates. For me personally,
fasting at the height of summer is the most punishing physical
experience I go through, particularly on the days when I have martial
arts classes scheduled.
The greatest mistake would be to think that fasting is only about
hunger, thirst and abstinence. It seems to me that fasting is a
physical experience that opens the doorway to a spiritual state of
being. The hardship of fasting isa key that unlocks a tremendous
reservoir of strength, and that plunges one into a state of humility,
and an extreme awareness of one's actions before Allah.
That's ultimately what fasting is about. It is about being conscious
of Allah, sacrificing for Him, being humbled before Him, growing
closer to Him, and pleasing Him.
Fasting is a key that opens a door. And the door is called Ar-Rayyaan.
May Allah make us amongthose who enter throughAr-Rayyaan.

Allah Will Make a Way Out

Are you stressed? Take a deep breath, and as you release it, let your
heart slow down and be calm. Step back and look at your situation
objectively. It's almost never as bad as you think. Just do your best,
and trust Allah. He will show you a way forward, and bring you through.
He will bring you relief from a direction you did not expect. This is
true. I have experienced it over and over in my life, and itis a
promise from Allah:
"And whoever is conscious of Allah, He willmake for him a way out, And
will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies
upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will
accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a
[decreed] extent." (Quran 65:2-3)
Here is a true story that illustrates this point in anamazing way:
The Hotel Manager
Recently, a Muslim man was caught in a dilemma, where he faced two
choices, both of which were onerous. This man was the manager of one
of the largest hotels in Egypt. The hospitality industry in Egypt is
one of the most competitive in the world so this manager always
strived to provide the best possible service in his hotel. He paid
attention to the smallest details, setthe budget priorities, observed
his staff, and got personally involved whenever a problem occurred. He
was very good at his job. Because of this he was highly valued by his
superiors.
However, there was one element of the job that galled him. A duty that
hefelt ashamed over. In any large hotel in Egypt, serving alcoholic
drinks isa must, and that duty waskilling him inside. He knew that
serving alcohol is haram. It is forbidden by Allah, and whatever money
comes from it is not blessed but haram; but it was part of the job and
had to be taken care of, regardless of how he felt towards it.
Time went by and he performed his job admirably, but this business of
selling alcohol was eating him up inside. Finally he decided to go to
one of the well- known Egyptiansheikhs and ask his advice. After
arranging for an appointment to meet this sheikh, he met him and
explained the problem. The sheikh without hesitation said, "You must
leave this job."
That was not enough of an answer for the manager. He explained tothe
sheikh, "This is the only job I know. I've been working in this field
all my life. I don't know what else to do. I have a wife and children
to take care of. I can't just leave the job and be unemployed and
penniless like so many others in Egypt."
The sheikh replied, "Did you come to me thinking that I might give you
permission to do what Allah forbids? Leave this job for the sake of
Allah."
The man, not knowing what to do, said, "But I have family to take care
of. I'm their only source of money. How will I feedmy children? If I
leave thejob, I won't be able to provide them with the simplest needs
of life. What shall I do?"
The sheikh reminded the manager of a verse from the Quran:
"And whoever is conscious of Allah, He willmake for him a way out, And
will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies
upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him."
The man returned to the hotel, knowing that he had to make the most
difficult decision of his life. He knew now that this job would not
satisfy Allah. As frightened as he was for his future, he was not
willing to lose his faith and lose the hereafter because of a job; but
he trembled when he thought of the risk he was taking, and the fear of
what the future might hold for himand his family.
At the hotel the manager went about his job, looking normal on the
outside. But inside he was thinking furiously, considering. Then he
made his decision. He decided to quit the job with no regrets. He
became convinced that this was the right thing to do. With a strong
faith and an absolute trust in Allah, he made a plea to the heavens:
"O Allah, I trust You, and I'm doing this only for You. I know you
will make for me away out, so please help me."
He headed directly to his office, sat at his desk, andbegan writing
his resignation.
As he was writing, the phone in front of him rang. It was his superior
at the corporation office, calling with news. The manager was stunned
and could hardly believe the news he heard, but it was true. The man
was informed that he had been promoted and would no longer be
responsible for managing this hotel but instead he would manage a new
hotel located in Al-Madinah, the holy city of our Prophet (peace be
upon him), and right next to the Masjid of the Prophet. Of course,
beingin Saudi Arabia, this new hotel sold no alcohol.
His dua had been answered in a heartbeat, from one moment to the next,
before he even finished the letter of resignation.
Till this day, the man is still the manager of the hotel in Madinah.
Subhan'Allah…
"Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we haveforgotten or erred.
Our Lord, and lay not upon usa burden like that which You laid upon
those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have
no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon
us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving
people." (Quran 002.286)

Invite Allah’s Power and Wisdom Into Your Life

Allah's power and wisdom are limitless and beyond our comprehension.
But guess what? There is a key that brings Allah's infinite wisdom
into play in your life. That key is prayer. Salat and dua' arelike a
special hotline that transcends the veils of space and time and goes
directly to Allah. Prayer is the means and the voice that Allah has
given us to speak to Him, ask His forgiveness, and request His
assistance and wisdom in any situation that we are dealing with. And it
works.
"And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I
am near. I respond to theinvocation of the supplicant when he calls
upon Me. So let them respond to Me and believe in Me that they may be
guided." Quran, Al-Baqarah 2:186
Miracles happen every day. Do you not believe that miracles can happen
in your life as well? Do you think that you are too insignificant for
that?SubhanAllah. Allah sees and knows every fallen leaf, every grain
in the darkness of the earth; and He knows your innermost thoughts. He
iscloser to you than your jugular vein. (Quran 50:16)
Do you think that Allah's nearness to you is because He mistrusts you?
No! Allah has nothing to fear from you,and therefore nothing to
mistrust. Allah is near to you because He loves you. He is near to you
because He cares about you and understands your pain. He is near to
you so that He can help you. You matter, as much as the ocean, the
trees and the stars. You are important to Allah, not asa general
concept, but you, as an individual person with your own private needs
and fears. You only have to turn to Him, and call upon Him; and His
wisdom, power and guidance will manifest in your life.
I personally went through a very difficult period when I was younger.
At the time I feltthat I had failed in life. I was beginning to feel
some despair. But I kept my faith in Allah, and I prayed to Him in the
day and the dark of the night. I trusted Allah, and I knew that He
would notabandon me. And then the last person I would expect, an
acquaintance who I hardly knew and who had no reason to care about me
or my situation, suddenly took an interest and began helping me.
Within a short period of time I hada job, and was able to get my own
apartment, and my life had changed completely. It was literally a
miracle. Even now it blows my mind. Allah stepped into that situation,
and He made the impossible possible, because I believed in Himand I
prayed.
Miracles happen every day. Allah hears you. You matter.
"O You the Ever Living Who sustains all that exists! O You Who
createdthe heavens and the earth without precedence. O You, Who Owns
the glory and the honor, none has the rightto be worshipped except
You. We seek refuge withYour mercy. Grant Us success in all of our
matters. Please, do not abandon us to rely on ourselves even for an
instant nor on any of Your creation." – (dua' mentioned in Tafsir ibn
Kathir)

He studies in a mixed environment and when he interacts with his female classmate she doubts his actions

The learning environment am in forces me to be close to this
particular sister in islam. I treat her with all da respect a muslim
brother should give to a sister. However she doubts most of my actions
to her, and most of my favours to her, even though she acceptsthem
sometimes. please note that I dont do this very often or in a manner
that would suggest evil thoughts. This behaviour hurts me,considering
the fact thatI know I am very much sincere in all that I do to her and
I have no bad intentions. I always think of explaining this to her but
the only thingthat stops me from doing so is the hope thatmaybe by
enduring the pain to myself I'll have a better reward infront of Allah
in akhera, I haven'tfound another choice. Is there any or shuold I
stick to the one I have?.
Praise be to Allaah.
Free mixing in schools, universities and other places is haraam
because of the evils and negative consequences to which it leads. This
has been discussed previously in the answers to questions no. 1200 and
50398
The one who is faced with that and cannot find a school or university
that is not mixed has to fear Allah, lower his gaze, and keepaway from
women and talking to them, let alone making friends with them, except
for when there is a real need to talk to them, in which case he should
talk with them only as much as is necessary.
What appears to be the case from your question is that you are not
compelled to do these things, in addition to thedoubt that it causes
in this sister's mind. Hence what you have to do is give it up and
avoid this girl and others, and remember that if it werenot for the
need for education, it would not be permissible to you to remain in
this mixed environment.
If you can change to a study group other than the one in which this
sister is, then do that. If not, then refrain from these interactions
that are making her doubt you, and keep it to the minimum of
interaction between you.
We ask Allah to forgive you and to protect you from evils both
apparentand hidden.
And Allah knows best.

He loves his kaafir Professor dearly; what is the ruling on that?

I am 20, male and a thirdyear medical student. Im a devout Muslim. My
family is also deeply religious. But I'm in a very complex situation.
When I was in college at the age of 17, I started developing a
father-son relationship with one of my teachers. That would be fine if
he was a Muslim. But he was born in a Hindu family, an atheist now for
a long time and also critical about all religions including Islam. He
loves me too much and beyond imagination. I know it because he talksto
me everyday though now he lives in a foreigncountry. Everyday we keep
contact- literally everyday. And honestly I love him too much too; I
go crazy if he doesn't call me even just one day. I always think he is
my father. All my family and friends know about our relation and
accept it.
But I don't like him being critical about religions including my
religion. I also told him that. It's true that he never told me
anything definitive about Islam like other atheists say for example
'Islam suppresses women' etc. etc. nor did he ever say to me to become
an atheist. He sometimes talks about different 'ayats' and points out
that this 'ayat' says so, that 'ayat' tells Muslims to do so etc. etc.
as he studies religions and theholy books. He read the Koran and the
Hadiths few times.
Now the big issue is:
Does Islam approve of such relation with a non-Muslim who is also
critical about Islam? Please give references from the Koran and
Hadiths when you answer me back. Islam comes first to me, every one
else later. If Islam does not approve of it, I'll surely cut this
relation. But that will definitely take a huge toll on me.
Praise be to Allaah.
If the matter is as you describe in your question, we advise you to
strive hard to distanceyourself from this man and to cut off this
relationship that is based on great love for him, because that is
damaging to your religious commitment, and the affect of that is clear
from your words about your deep attachment to him, your lengthy
relationship with him and your not being able to leave him. All of
that is very damaging to the Muslim's 'aqeedah (belief) which requires
him to disavow the disbelievers and to take as close friends and love
the believers. Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the
meaning):
"You (O Muhammad SAW) will not find any people who believe in Allah
and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allah and
His Messenger (Muhammad SAW ), eventhough they were their fathers, or
their sons, or their brothers, or their kindred (people). For such He
has written Faithin their hearts, and strengthened them with Rooh
(proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself. And We will admit them
to Gardens (Paradise) under which rivers flow, to dwell therein
(forever). Allah ispleased with them, and they with Him. They are the
Party of Allah. Verily, it is the Party of Allah that will be the
successful."
[al-Mujaadilah 58:22].
This love of the heart is aserious matter, because it is contrary to
the teachings of al-wala' wa'l-bara' (love and loyalty versus
disavowal and enmity), which is one of the most important basic
principles of Islam and one of the strongest bonds of faith, which is
indicated by a great dealof evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah.
Please see the answer to question no. 47322 and 23325
This does not mean that you cannot treat him kindly if you meet him or
you have a class together or work together, without being eager to
meet him outside of school or work. So strive to correctyourself and
end this forbidden friendship. If it so happens that you meet for any
reason, make it your main concern to make him love Islam and call him
to it, and warn him of the grave situation that he is in, in the hope
that Allah may decree that hebe guided out your hand. At that time,
your love for him will be beneficial to him when you to call him to
Islam. We ask Allah to help you to do that which is good.
And Allah knows best

Abdullah Ibn Sailam_ - Biographies of the Companions (Sahabah)

Al-Husayn ibn Sailam was a Jewish rabbi in Yathrib who was widely
respected and honoured by the people of the city even by those who
were not Jewish. He was known for his piety and goodness, his upright
conduct and his truthfulness.
Al-Husayn lived a peaceful and gentle life but he was serious,
purposeful and organized in the way he spent his time. For a fixed
period each day, he would worship, teach and preach in thetemple. Then
he would spend some time in his orchard, looking after date palms,
pruning and pollinating. Thereafter, to increase his understanding and
knowledge of his religion, he would devote himself to the study of the
Torah.
In this study, it is said he was particularly struck by some verses of
the Torah which dealt with the coming of a Prophet who would complete
the message of previous Prophets. Al-Husayn therefore took an
immediate and keen interest when he heard reports of the appearance of
a Prophet in Makkah. He said:
"When I heard of the appearance of the Messenger of God, peace be on
him, I began tomake enquiries about his name, his genealogy, his
characteristics, his time and place and I began to compare this
information with what is contained m our books. From these enquiries,
I became convinced about the authenticityof his prophethood and I
affirmed the truth of his mission. However, I concealed my conclusions
from the Jews. I held my tongue...
Then came the day when the Prophet, peace be on him, left Makkah and
headed for Yathrib. When he reached Yathrib and stopped at Quba, a man
came rushing into the city, calling out to people and announcing the
arrival of the Prophet. At that moment, I was at the top of a palm
tree doing some work. My aunt, Khalidah bint al-Harith, was sitting
under the tree. On hearing the news, I shouted:
'Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! (Godis Great! God is Great!' When my aunt
heard my takbir, she remonstrated with me: 'May Godfrustrate you...By
God, if you hadheard that Moses was coming you would not have been
more enthusiastic.'
'Auntie, he is really, by God, the 'brother' of Moses and follows his
religion. He was sent with the same mission as Moses.' She was silent
for a while and then said: 'Is he the Prophet about whom you spoke to
us who would be sent to confirm the truth preached by previous
(Prophets) and complete the message of his Lord?' 'Yes,' I replied.
Without any delay or hesitation, I went out to meet the Prophet. I saw
crowds of people at his door. I moved about in the crowds until I
reached close to him. The first words I heard him say were:
'O people! Spread peace...Share food...Pray during the night while
people (normally) sleep... and you will enter Paradise in peace...'
I looked at him closely. I scrutinized him and was convinced that his
face was not that of an imposter. I went closer to him and made the
declaration of faith that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad
is the Messenger of Allah.
The Prophet turned to me and asked: 'What is your name?' 'Al-Husayn
ibn Sailam,' I replied.
'Instead, it is (now) Abdullah ibnSallam,' he said (giving me a new
name). 'Yes,' I agreed. 'Abdullah ibn Sailam (it shall be).By Him who
has sent you with the Truth, I do not wish to have another name after
this day.'
I returned home and introduced Islam to my wife, my children and the
rest of my household. They all accepted Islam includingmy aunt
KhaIidah who was thenan old lady. However, I advised them then to
conceal our acceptance of Islam from the Jews until I gave them
permission. They agreed.
Subsequently, I went back to theProphet, peace be on him, and said: 'O
Messenger of God! The Jews are a people (inclined to) slander and
falsehood. I want you to invite their most prominent men to meet you.
(During the meeting however), you should keep me concealed from them
in one of your rooms.Ask them then about my status among them before
they find out of my acceptance of Islam. Then invite them to Islam. If
they were to know that I have become a Muslim, they would denounce me
and accuse me of everything base and slander me.'
The Prophet kept me in one of his rooms and invited the prominent
Jewish personalities to visit him. He introduced Islamto them and
urged them to havefaith in God...They began to dispute and argue with
him about the Truth. When he realized that they were not inclined to
accept Islam, he put the question to them:
'What is the status of Al-Husayn ibn Sailam among you?'
'He is our sayyid (leader) and the son of our sayyid. He is our
rabbiand our alim (scholar), the son of our rabbi and alim.'
'If you come to know that he has accepted Islam, would you accept
Islam also?' asked the Prophet.
'God forbid! He would not acceptIslam. May God protect him
fromaccepting Islam,' they said (horrified).
At this point I came out in full view of them and announced: 'O
assembly of Jews! Be conscious of God and accept what Muhammad has
brought. By God, you certainly know that he is the Messenger of God
and you can find prophecies about him and mention of his name and
characteristics in your Torah. I for my part declare that he is
theMessenger of God. I have faith in him and believe that he is true.
I know him.'
'You are a liar,' they shouted. 'ByGod, you are evil and ignorant, the
son of an evil and ignorant person.' And they continued to heap every
conceivable abuse on
me..."
Abdullah ibn Sailam approached Islam with a soul thirsty for
knowledge. He was passionately devoted to the Quran and spent much
time reciting and studyingits beautiful and sublime verses. He was
deeply attached to the noble Prophet and was constantly in his
company.
Much of his time he spent in the masjid, engaged in worship, in
learning and in teaching. He wasknown for his sweet, moving and
effective way of teaching study circles of Sahabah who assembled
regularly in the Prophet's mosque.
Abdullah ibn Sallam was known among the Sahabah as a man from
ahl-al-Jannah "- the people of Paradise. This was because of his
determination on the advice of the Prophet to hold steadfastly to the
"most trustworthy handhold" that is belief in and total submission to
God.

Am I jealous or is he a flirt?

I'm trying to find the answer to this question and it's really hard
for me, believe me!
I truly love my husband with whom we've been married for 8 years, the
first 3 of which we spent living separately in different countries.
Now we are already together. In the beginning everything was perfect
and I even feared sharingthis with others because people say "it's too
good to last".
So, I've noticed recently that when we are in a company with
handsomemen my husband is constantly around me and he is very kind and
affectionate to me. I find this normal and I'm quite pleased with it.
I considerthis the right attitude to a wife. I like showing my
feelings towards him in front of people and I'm very happy when they
notice it. The problem is that when we are in a company with
attractive women he changes abruptly – he stops touching me at all,
even keeps a distance, or if I show in some way or another that he is
my beloved husband he is unpleasantly surprised and stands as if
frozen, while his attitude to the other women is more than friendly.
There have been cases when he has spoken to a woman for about 10-15
minutes and haven't even looked at me meanwhile. (to say nothing of
including me in the conversation!). Sometimes I hesitated on leaving
the place in orderto see if he will notice myabsence. I think this
will probably last at least an hour or until he sees some handsome guy
around.
Whenever he meets a woman he will greet her with a hug, in which I
find nothing bad, but after that he will study her from head to toe
while talking to her. Another issue is that when a woman calls him on
the phone he becomes so enthusiastic that you may think this is the
happiest day in his life. However when I call him he gets so awfully
indifferent. And this happens when I'm tellinghim his favorite team
haswon an important game.
After this description of the situation (not mentioning many other
similar cases and the bad thing is unpleasant memories get more and
more) I'm asking you to help me see if I'm too jealous.
I will appreciate this a lotbecause right now I'm onthe verge of a divorce.
