Al Qur'an says...

The believers are only the ones who have believed in Allah and His
Messenger and then doubt not but strive with their properties and
their lives in the cause of Allah . It is those who are the truthful.

SOME HADITHS ABOUT ANGER

The Prophet Salallahu Alyehe Wasallam said, "I know a phrase which, if
he repeated, he could get rid of this angry feeling." They asked,

refuge in Allah from the accursed devil.'" [Abu Daud]

Remember, this too shall PASS:

A nugget of ancient wisdom that has served me well is the saying "This
too shall pass." Think aboutit. Everything comes and then it goes.
Problems develop and they disappear. One day we are on vacation, the
next we'reback to work. We get a cold or flu, and it goes away. . . .
. There is enormous freedom in remembering this wisdom. In fact, it
can be the fountain of a very peaceful life. It serves as an important
reminder that everything has a season, a time, and a place. It gives
us perspective during hard times, a frame of reference that nothing
lasts forever. It gives us hope and confidence that we will getthrough
this -- it will pass; it always does.
As we look back on our lives, it's easy to see that all things come
and go: winter, spring, summer, and fall; joy, sorrow, praise, and
blame; hardship, ease, rest, and exhaustion; accomplishments ,
mess-ups, and all the rest. Genuine freedom and happiness come when we
can see this dynamic, not only in retrospect but while we're going
through something difficult. This way, we can keep our perspective
right in the midst of the chaos. When you remember that all things
come and go, it allows you to keep your perspective, an open heart,
and even a sense of humor during all the phases of your life.
I encourage you to remind yourself of this bit of wisdom whenever you
feelannoyed, stressed, or bothered, as well as when you are going
through something terribly difficult.Life is very short. Our children
are little; they grow up. We are young; we grow old. We will get
through it all. The best and most effective way to maintain a grateful
spirit and keep yourself from being overwhelmed is to remember that
all things --even the hard things happen for a reason -- and it will
pass.

"...Bear with patience whatever befalls you...." (Qur'an 31:17) and
"Be not sad, surely Allah is with us."(Qur'an 9:40)
Our Prophet (pbuh) said:"Verily, if Allah loves a people, He makes
them go through trials. Whoever is satisfied, for him is contentment,
and whoeveris angry upon him is wrath." [Tirmidhi]
"Verily, with hardship thereis relief" (Qur'an 94:6)

Bellies and Souls

Most of us are concerned with our bellies and the souls of others;
when we should be concerned with our own souls, and the bellies of
others. The first thing the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said when he
arrived in Madinah was, "Spread peace, and feed the people."
Instead of judging others, care for them. Feed them, help them, and
spread peace. That is your representation as a Muslim, your da'wah, and
your salvation of the world. In the process, you save your own soul.

Hadees

Abu-d-Dardaa' – once said:
"If only you knew what you will certainly see upon your death, you
would never again eat a single bite out of a craving appetite, and you
would never again drink an extra sip of water for the pleasure of
unquenchable and insatiable thirst.
Hence, you will remain outdoor in perpetuity, bewildered and awaiting
the unexpected, and you will never again seek comfort in a shelter or
seeka shade. You will wander aimlessly and climb the hilltops of every
mountain, you will look up towards the heavens and beseech your Lord
for mercy, and you will beat on your chestand cry endlessly, and you
will wish that you were a little vegetable – a plant which is
protected to grow, and then plucked to be eaten by a hungry person
passing along."

✦ REVIVE A SUNNAH ⇨ "HELP OTHERS AND SEEKING KNOWLEDGE" ✦

Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه reported: The Messenger ofAllah صلى الله عليه
وسلم said, "He who relieves the hardship of a believer in this world,
Allah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment. He who makes
easy what is difficult, Allah will make it easy for him in the world
and the Hereafter. He who conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will
conceal his faults in the world and the Hereafter. Allah helps the
servant so long as he helps his brother. He who travels a path in
search of knowledge, Allah will makeeasy a path to Paradise. A people
do not gather together in the houses of Allah, reciting the Book of
Allah and studying together, except that tranquility will descend upon
them, mercy will cover them, angels will surround them, and Allah will
mention them to thosewith Him. And he who is slow to good deeds will
not be hastened by his lineage."

Lead Into Gold
Allah, giver of peace:
Your love has transformed me
like an alchemist's dream

I was old, bent under the weight
of years of confusion,
but now I stand straight, far-seeing,
light on my feet and gleaming,
golden like a lion's pelt,
a sunrise in my eyes.

Inspirational Islamic Sayings and Short Poems by Wael Abdelgawad, Hanan Bilal, Imam Zaid Shakirand Others:

1
The Prophet Muhammad (s) said: "Be kind, for whenever kindness becomes
part of something, it beautifies it. Whenever it is taken from
something, it leaves it tarnished." – Imam Bukhari's Book of Muslim
Manners.
2
Abdullah bin Al-Haarith said, "I didn't see anyone who smiled more
than the Messenger of Allah (s)." – (At-Tirmithee, 3641).
3
"Allah. It all starts with Him– the universe, humanity, and our own
conception – and it all comes back to Him in the end. There's no
victory without Him, no progress, no peace. Strengthen your
relationship with Him in the easy times, and you will find Him beside
you in the hard times." – Wael Abdelgawad
4
"Allah (God) is an exponential word." – ImamZaid Shakir
5
"Keep your head up, forge forward fee-sabeel-illah, keep praying,
learning, thinking, following your dreams, and loving the people in
your life. It's all worth it, it all matters and makes a difference.
Every single thing you do is meaningful, even when you don't see it.
You are my brothers, my sisters, myheroes." – Wael Abdelgawad
6
"When you're out of ideas, that's when faith comes in. Let Allah show
you the way." – Wael Abdelgawad
7
"No one should ever be depressed by his or her worldly situation as
long ashe or she is walking on the path leading to Paradise. Attaining
Paradise is the great objective of this life, and the person who gains
it is victorious, regardless of what he achieved in the world." – Imam
Zaid Shakir
8
Allah has a beautiful plan
for every woman and man.
Trust Allah and pray
and He will light the way.
- Wael Abdelgawad
9
"When I am feeling low and downtrodden I just find a quiet place and
sit alone with my favorite book (the Quran)! When I turn each of its
miraculous pages my heart begins to feel lighter and the world around
me brighter! The love, warmth and security of each word sets in and it
is in these very moments that I know for sure in my heart how much
Allah really loves me! Alhamdulillah! Subhanallah! Allahu Akbar!" –
Asmaa Deanna-Dee
10
"'Oh, but what's the use of trying to be a good Muslim when I end up
sinning again and again?'… Well, what's the use of bathing when you
get dirty again and again? Salat (prayer) is a purifier. Though you
sin again and again, keep returning to Allah for purification. Fasting
is a purifier, Zakat is a purifier, Hajj is a purifier… We can use the
same analogy for hope and motivation. We have to keep finding them
again and again. That's the nature of life." – Wael Abdelgawad
11
"Try to become an embodiment of compassion and mercy in your daily
life. Do not wait for a situation to occur thatwill call out these
virtues inyou. Rather, seek out opportunities where you can manifest
them along with all of the other prophetic virtues. Do not live your
life passively waiting to be used, roused or stimulated into action by
events. Live an active life wherein you become the one who is
initiating acts of goodness and kindness in all that you do. Be an
embodiment of the truth you represent. Let your words and comportment
convey the dignity of the believer to all that you meet." – Imam Zaid
Shakir
12
"Wash your heart every morning with salat, then warm it up with dhikr.
Approach life with hope and faith. Every day do your best, Allah will
do the rest." – Wael Abdelgawad
13
"God is truly AWESOME! I see the POWER of GOD moving in MY LIFE, in my
families' lives, in the world….GOD has GREAT things in store for us.
All we have to do is submit and accept GOD's direction for our lives.
I accept!" – Hanan K. Bilal
14
"I believe in Allah because He believes in me… and in you too. He made
us Muslim, didn't He? That is agift and a blessing. So believe in His
plan for you, because He believes in you,He has faith in you, He has a
purpose for you." – Wael Abdelgawad
15
"Is not the help of God close by? Certainly it is. Godsays "Call upon
Me and I will respond." Don't tire on calling on Him. Don't despair
from receiving His Mercy. Despair is a sign of disbelief." – Imam Zaid
Shakir
16
"It's okay to feel sad, anxious, lonely, frustrated, and confused.
Feeling theseemotions doesn't make you less of a believer. The
difference between the believer and non-believer is that the believer
remainspatient and turns to Allah for help." – Wael Abdelgawad

THE DAWNING OF LIGHT ON THE PATH OF SUFISM by Laurence Galian THE DANING OF LIGHT ON THE PATH OF SUFISM:

All praise is due to Allah. Allah is the One Reality, and that Reality
is Love. We humans are love returning to Love. Sufis have taught great
wisdom to humanity regarding the clearest ways to make that "return."
The finest way is through remembering ( dhikr ) Allah at all times,
and knowing that Allah alone exists. The author wishes to thank all
his teachers, especially Arthur Smith, who have generously shared
their wisdom with him, and it is his humble wish to transmit what he
has learned to the reader. All mistakes are the fault of the author
alone. Allah knows best.
From the lips of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) came the
saying, " Mutu qabla an tamutu (Die before you die)". That was not
some kind of poetry, but states that some have managed to do as the
Prophet directed and that his directions were clear and do not mean
the various interpretations offered by those who guess. Sheikh Ahmad
al-'Alawi writes, "The Gnostics have a death before the general
death."
An emotional experience, in a sense, is a precursor to illumination,
but it is not the experience itself. This misconception leads many
astray. Though they are very often imagined to be the same, emotions
and spirituality are not the same (no matter how "lofty" the emotion
may be). Strong emotions may be experienced just prior to
illumination; terror most readily comes to mind. In addition,
amazement may be experienced. Sayyid Idrisal-Hashimi ( Sayyid Idries
Shah) ( June 16, 1924 – 23 - November 1996 ) wrote often about the
fact that emotions and spirituality are not the same.
Emotion is often used to develop or increase certain brain chemicals
that are needed. That is the purpose of situations that
develop"longing" and "love." Thesesituations are necessary, but not
sufficient for illumination. Thus, emotions have a role in
illumination, but it is not what is commonly imagined.
Some intelligent people are aware of the human spiritual situation; a
few of those that are talented in symbol manipulation can describe it
to others. Rare isit that one can do more than describe and hint at
solutions. Better to admit to not having that information, unless the
goal is to get attention needs met or make money.
There is a Law of Synchronicity (in the Jungian sense) involved in the
Sufi Path of Illumination. The Sufis say that there is no coincidence,
and that coincidences are merely Allah's orders. An important teaching
story isthe tale of Majnun and Layla. The tale of Majnun and Layla is
of course about many things, but likeRumi's relationship with Shams,
it demonstrates a specific technique, that is, the technique of an
uncompleted love that created and intensified longing.
The Troubadours attempted the same technique on a somewhat large
scale. Foreseeing the future, and anticipating a time when humanity
would go through a very difficult phase, the troubadours created the
"impossible romantic ideal" that would set to motion, in a very
fewpeople, one of the initial processes or steps to illumination.
The future time they anticipated is our present time. Through the
yearning that this impossible romantic ideal created, a chemical
correlation was produce in the brain.
As we know, bears hibernate in caves. They appear almost lifeless. This
is an analog to the practices of ancient shamans, and to Sufis who
practice the forty-day halvet (retreat), in which the Shaman would
enter a cave, have an experience ofdying, explore the spiritual
realms, and then is reborn as the Initiate or Master (just as the bear
is reborn each spring as it "wakes up" and leaves its cave).

the coffin in soft drinks risk

This is another nail in thecoffin for soft drinks"
Professor Graham MacGregor
Chairman of the Blood Pressure Association
For the study, the participants who were aged 40-59 from the UK and
the US were asked to record what they had eaten in the preceding 24
hours on four separate occasions. They also provided a urine sample
and had their blood pressure measured.
The researchers found that sugar intake was highest inthose consuming
more than one sugar-sweetened beverage daily.
They also found that individuals consuming more than one serving per
day of sugar-sweetened beverages consumed more calories than those who
didn't consume sugary drinks - around 397 extra calories a day.
For every extra can of sugary drink consumed perday, participants on
average had a higher systolic blood pressure by 1.6mmHg and a higher
diastolic blood pressure by 0.8mmHg.
Overall, the people who consumed a lot of sugar-sweetened beverages
appeared to also have less healthy diets and were more likely to be
overweight.
But regardless of this, the link with blood pressure was still
significant even after adjusting for factors such as weight and
height.

Egypt’s military ruler speaks out after protests

The head of Egypt's armed forces today rejected accusations that the
military is throwing its weight behind a candidate in next month's
presidential elections a dayafter thousands of people demonstrated
against the ruling generals.
The statement from Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, who leads the
military council that has ruled Egypt since Hosni Mubarak's ouster
last year, came a day after tens of thousands of Egyptians packed
Cairo's Tahrir Square to denounce military rule. Protesters accused
the generals of trying to manipulate the May presidential vote.
Speaking at a military training exercise today, Mr. Tantawi said the
armed forces are focused at the moment on handing power to an elected
civilian government, not on hanging on to power. He also insisted the
military was not picking favourites in the presidential race.
"The armed forces stand at an equal distance from all the parties
without taking sides at the expense of another party," Mr. Tantawiwas
quoted as saying by the state news agency MENA.
He also said that the military was able to respond to insults with
"violence from an iron fist,"but that the military wouldnot do so in
order to keep Egypt safe. The military hasover the past year used
deadly violence to disperseprotests against its rule.
The elections set to begin May 23 were intended to be a landmark in
Egypt's transition: the first free choosing of a president after
decades of authoritarian rule. After thepresident is installed, the
military is to hand over thepower it took after Mubarak's ouster by
the end of June.
Mr. Tantawi has insisted, however, that Egypt's new constitution be
written before the presidential vote, raising fears that the deadline
to hand over power may be pushed back.
The military, which has produced Egypt's last four presidents, is
widely viewed as trying to avoid being subject to civilian oversight.
The field marshal's remarkstoday aimed to counter allegations that the
military wants to push a candidate it favours into the presidency to
ensure its continued influence andblock dramatic reform.
This week, the election commission disqualified 10candidates,
including the top three contenders. The move enraged Islamists because
among those excluded were the Brotherhood's nominee and a favourite of
ultraconservatives known as Salafis.
Hundreds of supporters of the disqualified Salafi candidate, Hazem Abu
Ismail, rallied for a second day in Tahrir. They accused the military
of pulling levers to eliminate Abu Ismail and boost support for former
regime officials particularly former foreign minister and leading
presidential candidate Amr Moussa.

Allah says: "And [by] the Nafs and He who proportioned it And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, He has succeeded who purifies it,

Allah says: "And [by] the Nafs and He who proportioned it And inspired
it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, He has
succeeded who purifies it, And he has failed who instills it [with
corruption]."(Surah Ash Shams 91:7-10)
The Nafs invites the body to indulge in every form of material
activity. It is not concerned about moral principles or avoidance of
prohibited things. As long as the material body can find pleasure in a
thing or an action the nafs will entice the person to become involved.
If not checked it will cause the person to deviate from the correct
path.
It is because the nafs is attracted to materialistic matters that
Satan is able to influence a person. He does this by decorating
thematerial things to make them attractive and he is also able to
whisper inside the person material suggestions to impact upon his
thoughts. The results of the working of the nafs can make a
personentertain only material desires thereby becoming aslave of his
passion, desiresand ego. (12:53)
The nafs can also be cultured to act responsibly. This can be done by
restraining it from behaving like an animal and developing fear of
consequences.
The nafs can be controlled by the will of the person. This is a
special quality given by Allah, the power to choose what's right from
wrong.
Man can be influenced by knowledge and through acquisition of wisdom.
Knowledge will help a person to differentiate good from evil and right
from wrong; while wisdomwill enable its possessor to understand the
effect his action will have on the personality.
If the nafs is trained to become morally and spiritually good, it goes
through stages of growth. It moves away from being dominating to a
stage of self accusation. This stage is called Nafsul Lawwamah.(75:2)
In this stage the nafs is conscious of right and wrong. It
acknowledges its mistakes and tries to make amends by asking for
forgiveness and repenting.
The third station is called Nafsul Mutma'innah.(89 :27)In this stage
the nafs attains peace and tranquility. This is because it has
developed desires that do not conflict with the desires of Ruh (soul).
It does not impact negativelyon the ruh, rather, it helps to keep it
shining and its own energy becomes refined.
The mission of every person is to purify the nafs so that it can work
in harmony with the ruh, resulting in peace and stability.

Bahrain 'confident' Grand Prix will not bedisrupted

The authorities in Bahrain say they are confident the Formula 1 Grand
Prix will not be disrupted by protests.
The heavily-guarded race track has been surrounded with layers of
security to keep opposition activists away.
On Saturday, protests intensified after the body of a Shia man killed
in overnight in clashes with security forces was discovered on a
rooftop.
Protesters are calling for the race to be cancelled, but the
government is determined it will go ahead.
On the eve of the event, British Foreign Secretary William Hague spoke
to hisBahraini counterpart to"call for restraint" in dealing with
protesters.
The race is due to start at 15:00 (12:00 GMT).
Spotlight on protests
His call came after police fired tear gas to disperse thousands of
protesters on Saturday. Many of them had gathered near the village
where anti-government demonstrator Salah Abbas Habib's body was found.
Zeinab al-Khawaja, the daughter of hunger striker Abdul Hadi
al-Khawaja, wasalso briefly detained on Saturday afternoon.
Her father has been on hunger strike in prison for over 70 days after
he was arrested for protesting against the government, and is now
refusing water.
Armoured vehicles are patrolling the streets to clamp down on any
demonstrations ahead of Sunday's race.
Violent protests against theGrad Prix began on Friday and continued overnight
Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, only went ahead with the Grand
Prix after the government said it had security under control.
Last year's Bahraini Grand Prix was cancelled after 35 people died in
February and March during a crackdown on mass demonstrations calling
for greater democracy.
The Bahraini government, headed by the al-Khalifa dynasty, had been
keen forthis year's race to go aheadthis year to prove it has put the
14-month uprising against Sunni minority rulebehind them.
BBC correspondent CarolineHawley says that staging the event has had
the opposite effect,

“Someone’s opinion ofyou does not have to become your reality.”

Don't blindly accept other people's negative judgments of you. Reject
their pessimism. Be strong, know yourself, and know that no one else
can define you. Other people's insults may hurt, but they don't define
you. Some people love to say "no", to tell youwhat you cannot do, to
tellyou why your dreams are impossible or impractical, to tell you
what a fool you are, to tell you not to bother trying. Such people
claim to be pragmatists and realists.
In reality, such people are poison. It is their opinions that are not
based in reality. It's their opinions that are founded in cowardice
and cynicism. Their opinions are inherently self-limiting. They have
locked themselves into prisons of the mind. They have taken the ships
of their dreams and smashed holes in the hulls before ever setting
sail. Because they have given up on their dreams, they want you to do
the same.
