Rainy day

Rainy Day
I love this interpretation of a rainyday in black and white.
I think black and white conveys the dreariness of a rainy day
exceptionally well.
Of course, anyone who knows me, knows that I love the black and white
photo. No surprises there.
However, I feel far from dreary today. Instead, with the windowsand
door screens open today, listening to the pitter-patter of therain
outside invigorates me.
I think it's time to get the guest bedroom spring cleaned. :-) I
can't sit on the back porch, so it's the perfect day to clean and
organize!

It was said to Hasan Al-Basri: "Shouldn't one of us feel too shy to
ask his Lord to forgive his sin, thendo it again, then ask for
forgiveness, then do it again?"
He said: "The Shaytaan wishes that you would have this attitude, so do

New drugs to treat allergies are safe: expert

With millions of people suffering from different allergies worldwide,
an expert has said that new generation anti-histamine drugs to treat
them are safe, effective and do not produce sedative effect.
In an interview with The Hindu in connection with a prestigious global
medical conference being hosted atHyderabad International Convention
Centre (HICC) here by the World Allergy Organisation (WAO), Dr. Ruby
Pawankar, the first woman to head the 35,000-member body has dismissed
as non-scientific the treatment of fish medicine to treat asthma.
'Severe allergies, Severe Asthma: New Strategies forOptimal Treatment
and Prevention' is the theme ofthe four-day event beginning on
December 6. Superior infrastructure facilities at HICC and the
presence of a number of good hospitals has enabledHyderabad to bag the
event over three other cities, according to Dr. Pawankar. Around 2,500
delegates, including 70 world-renowned experts, are expected to attend
the conference. A medical graduate of the Armed Forces Medical
College, Pune, she is living in Japan since 20 years. Excerpts:
Q: Which is the most common form of allergy
Around 400 million people across the globe suffer from nasal allergy,
followed by 300 million from asthma and 200 million are affected by
food allergies. We presumethe number of those affected by asthma is
under-estimated. All over the world around 2.5 lakh people die of
asthma annually. The other types of allergies are those relating to
skin, insects andoccupation among others.
What are the reasons for rise in asthma cases
Asthma cases are indeed increasing. An internationalstudy of asthma
and allergies in children found that there was a doubling of asthma in
developing countries. Allergies are becoming more complex and severe.
Causes could be many, including genetic,lifestyle-related, food
allergy and environmental and what is called "hygiene hypothesis".
Allergens are increasing due to global warming. Climate change and
global warming is having an impact on migration of allergens.
Your views on the treatment protocol for allergies
First generation anti-histamine drugs whichcause sedation are no
longer recommended. We recommend second generation drugs which don't
have sedative effect. They are safe and effective.Nasal and skin
allergies arecontrolled by these drugs. Also the newer inhalers
containing steroids are safe.
What is WAO's role in combating various types ofallergies?
WAO is leveraging internationally with various ministries of health,
the UN and WHO to bring allergies on the agenda of Non-Communicable
Diseases (NCDs) along with diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular and other
ailments. More resources could be garnered if it is declared as an
NCD. Deaths due to allergies and asthma are unwarranted. We have to
partner to make a reduction in burden of allergic diseases.
How well-developed is the discipline of allergies treatment in India?
It is not well-developed in India. WAO is working closely with Union
Ministry of Health to make this a full-fledged specialty. WAO has
prepared a position paper on the syllabus for post-graduate and
under-graduate courses.
What is your view on fish medicine treatment for asthma?
I have heard about it and feel it is absolutely non-scientific and has
no scientific basis. Let someone furnish scientific data on how it
cures asthma and I will then believe it.

Why are you Muslim?

'Why are you Muslim?' It may sound like an obviousquestion, but often
many of us don't have a clear answer to it. I remember being asked
this question by my elder brother when I was fourteen years of age, my
initial answer was'Well, our family is Muslim', his reply to this made
me think, he said, 'If your family were Hindu or Christian, would you
be as well?'. I replied with a strong 'No, Islam is the truth', the
discussion that followed made me question the basis of my life and
changed my life for ever. He triggered me to think about how to prove
that Islam is the truth rather than just believing it emotionally
orblindly. In fact Allah (swt) has condemned people forimitating their
forefathers and adopting their belief without clear evidence.
In the Holy Qur'an, He (swt) says:
"And verily guess is no substitute for the truth." [TMQ 53:28]
"They have no (certain) knowledge. They follow nothing but conjecture.
For surely; they killed him not ('Isa)." [TMQ 4:157]
"These are nothing but names which you have devised, you and your
fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow
nothing but conjecture and what their Nafs desire.Even though there
has already come to them the Guidance from their Rabb"[TMQ 53:23]
"Do you have Ilm (knowledge) for that which you claim so that you
provide us with? You follow nothing but conjecture (Zann)." [TMQ
6:148]
The followers of other religions have no decisive proof for their
belief, therefore they believe in their religions emotionallyor
through imitation. Some of them think that you just have to have
faithwithout clear proof. However when it comes tonormal things in
life people apply a lot of thought such as buying a car, house,
choosing a University course or whichbank to join, so how can itbe
that when it comes to the most important questions about life; which
define the purpose of our lives that we shouldjust have 'faith'
without being convinced absolutely.
It is therefore vital for a Muslim to believe in the existence of
Allah (swt) without any doubt whatsoever and to believein the
Prophethood of Muhammad (saw) and that the Qur'an is the final
revelation sent by Allah (swt) to humanity. Islam isunlike all the
other religions as it has a decisive proof that convinces the mind.

Lung cancer cases rise in UK women:

Lung cancer cases in women are continuing torise, according to figures
released by Cancer Research UK.
It says more than 18,000 UK women were diagnosedwith lung cancer in
2009, compared with fewer than 8,000 in 1975.
Cases of lung cancer reflect smoking rates two to threedecades
earlier, as more than 80% of cases are linked to tobacco.
Lung cancer is still more common in men, with more than 23,000 cases
in 2009, but rates have been falling fast.
That means lung cancer incidence is now just under59 per 100,000 UK
men compared with 110 in 1975.
The comparable figure for women was 39 in every 100,000 women in 2009
- but 22 in 1975.
Wartime peak
Smoking rates for women in Britain were highest during the 1960s, with
around 45% of women smoking, but that has now fallen to around 20%.
The teenage girls and young women we see around us smoking todayare

The Life of this Worldis Fleeting Enjoyment

http://translate.google.co.in/m?hl=en&twu=1/

"Know that the life of thisworld is only play and amusement, pomp and
mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respectof wealth and
children. (It is) like a rain (Ghayth), thereof the growth is pleasing
to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow;
then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe
torment, and (there is) forgiveness from Allah and (His) pleasure. And
the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment." [57:20]
Allah the Exalted degrades the significance of this life and belittles
it by saying,
"that the life of this worldis only play and amusement, pomp and
mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respectof wealth and
children."
Meaning, this is the significance of this life to its people, just as
He said inanother Ayah,
"Beautified for men is thelove of things they covet; women, children,
much of gold and silver (wealth), branded beautiful horses, cattle and
well-tilled land. This is the pleasure of the present world's life;
but Allah has the excellent return with Him." ( 3:14 )
Allah the Exalted also sets aparable for this life, declaring that its
joys are fading and its delights are perishable, saying that life is,
"Like a rain (Ghayth)," which is the rain that comes down to mankind,
after they had felt despair....
