Assalamualaikum .
Your Wealth
Alhamdulilah. Indeed, all praise is due to Allaah. We praise Him and
seek His help and forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allaah from our
souls' evil and our wrong doings. He whom Allaah guides, no one can
misguide; and he whom Hemisguides, no one can guide. I bear witness
that there is no (true) God except Allaah – alone without a partner,
and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His 'Abd
(servant) and messenger
Narrated 'Abdullah (may Allaah be pleased with him): The Prophet
(peace be upon him) said, "Who among you considers the wealth of his
heirs dearer to him than his own wealth?"
They replied, "O Allah's Apostle! There is none among us but loves his
own wealth more."
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "So his wealth is whatever he
spends (in Allaah's Cause) during his life (on good deeds) while the
wealth of his heirs is whatever he leaves after his death."[1]
Commentary:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) knows that people are blinded by
theirwealth and how we often make it our goal: Narrated Ibn 'Abbaas
(may Allaah be pleased with him: I heard the Prophet (peace be upon
him) saying, "If the son of Adam (the human being) had two valley of
money, he would wish for a third, for nothing can fill the belly of
Adam's son except dust, and Allah forgives him who repents to Him."[2]
The Prophet (peace be upon him) explained that all the money we make
would never really be ours, until we spend it for the sake of Allaah
(in charity and other good acts). This way, the wealth would benefit
us in this world andthe next.
Allaah, the Most High, says,"O you who believe! Spend of the good
things which you have (legally) earned, and of that which We have
produced from the earth for you, and do not aim at that which is bad
to spend from it, (though) you would not accept it save if you close
your eyes and tolerate therein. And know that Allâh is Rich (Free of
allwants), and Worthy of all praise."[3]
Narrated Aboo Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him): The Prophet
(peace be upon him) said,"Every day two angels come down from Heaven
and one of them says, 'O Allah! Compensate every person who spends in
YourCause,' and the other (angel) says, 'O Allah! Destroy every
miser.'"[4]
However, if you keep the money and do not spend it(on good), you will
in reality loose your wealth, because once you die, your family will
take it and you will be left with nothing, because wealth of this
Dunya has no value in the hereafter.
Allaah, the Most High, says,"By no means shall you attain Al-Birr
(piety, righteousness, etc., it means here Allâh's Reward,i.e.
Paradise), unless you spend (in Allâh's Cause) of that which you love;
and whatever of good you spend, Allâh knows it well."[5]
Imam Anwar al - Awlakee narrates a story, in his 'The Hereafter'
series, (Part 3):"There is a story of a Tab'ieen[6] asked his student,
"You have been with me for over 30 years, what have you learnt",
The student replied, "I havelearnt 8 things, and amongthat is I
understand that everyone has loved ones and things in this Dunya. Some
of them we will leave it home, some we will leave it in this Dunya,
and some will take it to thegrave, but in the grave youare alone. The
only thing you will have with you is your good deeds; that's why I am
making my gooddeeds the most beloved thing to me."
