We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam!' and they prostrated, with
theexception of Satan. He refused and was arrogant and was one ofthe
unbelievers. (Surat Al-Baqara, 34)
When they are told, 'Do not cause corruption on the earth,' they say,
'We are only putting things right.' (Surat Al-Baqara, 11)
No indeed! They are the corrupters, but they are not aware of it.
(Surat Al-Baqara, 12)
Those who break Allah's contract after it has been agreed, and sever
what Allah has commanded to be joined, and cause corruption on the
earth, it is they who are the lost. (Surat Al-Baqara, 27)
And when you said, 'Moses, we will not put up with just one kind of
food so ask your Lord to supply to us some of what the earth produces–
its green vegetables, cucumbers, grains, lentils and onions,' he said,
'Do you want to replace what is better with what is inferior? Goback
to Egypt, then you will have what you are asking for.' Abasement and
destitution were stamped upon them. They brought down anger from Allah
upon themselves. That was because they rejected Allah's Signs and
killed the Prophets without any right to do so. That was because they
rebelled and went beyond the limits. (Surat Al-Baqara, 61)
You are well aware of those of you who broke the Sabbath. We said to
them, 'Be apes, despised, cast out.' (Surat Al-Baqara, 65)
We made it an exemplary punishment for those there then, andthose
coming afterwards, and a warning to those who have fear of Allah.
(SuratAl-Baqara, 66)
Do you really hope they will follow you in belief when a group of them
heard Allah's Word and then, after grasping it, knowingly distorted
it? (Surat Al-Baqara, 75)
When they meet those who have belief in Allah, they say, 'We have
beliefin Allah.' But when they go apart with one another, they say,
'Why do you speak to them about what Allah has disclosed to you, so
they can use it as an argument against you before your Lord? Will you
not use your intellect?' (Surat Al-Baqara, 76)
Remember when We made a covenant with the tribe of Israel: 'Worship
none but Allah and be good to your parents and to relatives and
orphans and the very poor. And speak good words to people. And
establish daily prayer and give alm.' Butthen you turned away – except
a few of you – you turned aside. (Surat Al-Baqara, 83)
Then you are the people who are killing one another and expelling a
group among you from their homes, ganging upagainst them in wrongdoing
and enmity.Yet if they are brought to you as captives, you ransom
them, when it was forbidden for you toexpel them in the first place!
Do you, then, believe in one part of the Book and reject the other?
What repayment will there be for any of you who do that except
disgrace in this world? And on the Day of Rising, they will be returned
to the harshest of punishments. Allah is notunaware of what you do.
(Surat Al-Baqara, 85)
We gave Moses the Bookand sent a succession of Messengers after him.
We gave 'Jesus, son of Maryam, the Clear Signs and reinforced him with
the Purest Soul. Why then, whenever a Messenger came to you with
something your lower selves did not desire, did you grow arrogant, and
deny some of them and murder others? (Surat Al-Baqara, 87)
What an evil thing they have sold themselves for in rejecting what
Allah has sent down, outragedthat Allah should send down His favour on
whichever of His slaves He wills. They have brought down anger upon
anger on themselves. The unbelievers will have a humiliating
punishment.(Surat Al-Baqara, 90)
When they are told, 'Believe in what Allah has sent down,' they
say,'Our belief is in what was sent down to us,' and they reject
anythingbeyond that, even though it is the truth, confirming what they
have. Say, 'Why then, if you are believers, did you previously kill
the Prophets of Allah?' (SuratAl-Baqara, 91)
Remember when We made a covenant with you and lifted up the Mount
above your heads: 'Take hold vigorously of what We have given you and
listen.' They said, 'We hear and disobey.' They were made to drink the
Calf into their hearts because of their disbelief. Say, 'If you are
believers, what an evil thing your belief has made you do.' (Surat
Al-Baqara, 93)
Or do you want to question your Messengeras Moses was
questionedbefore? Anyone who exchanges belief for disbelief has
definitely gone astray from the level way. (Surat Al-Baqara, 108)
When they are told, 'Follow what Allah has sent down to you,' They
say, 'We are following what we found our fathers doing.' What, even
though their fathers did not understand a thing and were not guided!
(Surat Al-Baqara, 170)
When he leaves you, he goes about the earth corrupting it,
destroyingcrops and animals. Allah does not love corruption. (Surat
Al-Baqara, 205)
When he is told to have fear of Allah, he is seizedby pride which
drives him to wrongdoing. Hell will be enough for him! What an evil
resting-place! (Surat Al-Baqara, 206)
They will ask you about the Sacred Month and fighting in it. Say,
'Fighting in it is a seriousmatter; but barring access to the Way of
Allah and rejecting Him and barring access to the Masjid al-Unlawful
and expelling its people from it are far more serious in the sight of
Allah. Corruption is worse than killing.' They will not stop fighting
you until they make you revert from your religion, if they are able.As
for any of you who revert from their deen and die as unbeliever, their
actions will come to nothing in the world and the Hereafter. They are
the Companions of the Fire, remaining in it timelessly, for ever.
(Surat Al-Baqara, 217)
The religion with Allah isIslam. Those given the Book only differed
after knowledge had come to them, envying one another. As for those
who reject Allah's Signs, Allah is swift at reckoning. (Surah Al
'Imran, 19)
They will be plunged into abasement wherever they are found, unless
they have a treaty with Allah and with the people. They have brought
down anger from Allah upon themselves, and they have been plunged into
destitution. That was because they rejected Allah's Signs and killed
the Prophets without any right to do so. That was because they
disobeyed and went beyond the limits. (SurahAl 'Imran, 112)
And so that He would know the hypocrites. They were told, 'Come and
fight in the Way of Allah or at least help defend us.' They said, 'If
we knew how to fight, we would certainly follow you.' They were closer
to disbelief that day than to belief, saying with their mouthswhat was
not in their hearts. And Allah knows best what they are hiding. (Surah
Al 'Imran, 167)
As for those who disobeyAllah and His Messenger and overstep His
limits, We will admit them into a Fire, remaining in it timelessly,
for ever. They will have a humiliating punishment. (Surat An-Nisa',
14)
On that day those who were unbelievers and disobeyed the Messenger
will wish thatthey were one with the level earth. They will not be
able to hide a single circumstance from Allah. (Surat An-Nisa', 42)
Some of the Jews distort the true meaning of words, saying,'We hear
and disobey,' and 'Listenwithout listening,' and 'Ra'ina!' twisting
them with their tongues, disparaging the religion. If they had said,
'We hear and we obey,' and 'Listen,' and, 'Undhurna!'that would have
been better for them and more upright. But Allah has cursed them for
their disbelief. Very few of them have belief. (Surat An-Nisa', 46)
When they are told, 'Come to what Allah has sent down and to the
Messenger,' you see the munafiqun turning away from you completely.
(Surat An-Nisa', 61)
We sent no Messenger except to be obeyed by Allah's permission. If
only when they wronged themselves they had come to you and asked
Allah's forgiveness and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them
they would have found Allah Ever-Returning, Most Merciful. (Surat
An-Nisa', 64)
No, by your Lord, they are not believers until they make you their
judge in the disputes that break out between them, and then find no
resistance within themselves to what you decide and submit themselves
completely. (Surat An-Nisa', 65)
If We had directed them to kill themselves or leave their homes, they
would not have done so,except for a very few. But if they had done
what they were urged todo, it would have been better for them and far
more strengthening. (Surat An-Nisa', 66)
They have the word, 'Obedience!' on their tongues but when they leave
your presence, a group of them spend thenight plotting to do other
than what you say.Allah is recording their nocturnal plotting. So
letthem be and put your trust in Allah. Allah suffices as a Guardian.
(Surat An-Nisa', 81)
But if anyone opposes the Messenger after the guidance has become
clear to him, and followsother than the path of the believers, We will
hand him over to whatever he has turned to, and We will roast himin
Hell. What an evil destination! (Surat An-Nisa', 115)
The People of the Book will ask you to bring down a Book from heaven
to them. They asked Moses for even more than that. They said, 'Let us
see Allah with our own eyes.' So the lightning-bolt struck them down
for their wrongdoing. Then they adopted the Calf after the Clear Signs
had cometo them, but We pardoned them for that and gave Moses clear
authority. (Surat An-Nisa', 153)
We lifted up the Mount above their heads in accordance with the
covenant they had made, and We said to them, 'Enter the gate
prostrating,' and We said to them, 'Do not break the Sabbath,' and We
made a binding covenant with them. (Surat An-Nisa', 154)
But because of their breaking of their covenant, We have cursed them
and made their hearts hard. They distort the true meaningof words and
have forgotten a good portion of what they were reminded of. You will
never cease to come upon some act of treachery on their part, except
for a few of them. Yet pardon them, and overlook. Allah
lovesgood-doers. (Surat Al-Ma'ida, 13)
They said, 'We will neverenter it, Moses, as long as they are there.
So youand your Lord go and fight. We will stay sittinghere.' (Surat
Al-Ma'ida, 24)
He said, 'My Lord, I have no control over anyone but myself and my
brother, so make a clear distinction between us and this deviant
people.'(Surat Al-Ma'ida, 25)
We created you and then formed you and then We said to the angels,
'Prostrate before Adam,' and they prostrated – except for Satan. He
was not among those who prostrated. (Surat Al-A'raf, 11)
He said, 'What preventedyou from prostrating when I commanded you to?'
He replied, 'I am better than him. You created me from fire andYou
created him from clay.' (Surat Al-A'raf, 12)
He said, 'Descend from Heaven. It is not for you to be arrogant in it.
So get out! You are one of the abased.' (Surat Al-A'raf, 13)
He said, 'Grant me a reprieve until the day they are raised up.'
(Surat Al-A'raf, 14)
He said, 'You are one of the reprieved.' (Surat Al-A'raf, 15)
He said, 'By Your misguidance of me, I willlie in ambush for them on
your straight path. (Surat Al-A'raf, 16)
Then I will come at them, from infront of them and behind them, from
their right and from their left. You will not find most of them
thankful. (Surat Al-A'raf, 17)
He said, 'Get out of it, reviled and driven out. As for those of them
whofollow you, I will fill up Hell with every one of you.' (Surat
Al-A'raf, 18)
So he enticed them to doit by means of trickery. Then when they tasted
the tree, their private parts were disclosed to them and they started
stitching together the leaves of the Garden in order to cover
themselves. Their Lord called out to them,'Did I not forbid you this
tree and say to you, "Satan is an outright enemy to you"? (Surat
Al-A'raf, 22)
The ruling circle of thoseof his people who were arrogant said, 'We
will drive you out of our city,Shu'ayb, you and those who have iman
along with you, unless you return to our religion.' He said, 'What,
even though we detest it? (Surat Al-A'raf, 88)
The ruling circle of thoseof his people who were unbelievers said, 'If
you follow Shu'ayb, you will definitely be lost.' (Surat Al-A'raf, 90)
So he turned away from them and said, 'My people, I transmitted My
Lord's message to you and gave you good counsel. Why should I grieve
for people of disbelief?' (Surat Al-A'raf,93)
We did not find many of them worthy of their contract. We found most
of them deviators. (SuratAl-A'raf, 102)
And then, after them, Wesent Moses with Our Signs to Pharaoh and
hisruling circle but they wrongfully rejected them. See the final fate
of the corrupters! (Surat Al-A'raf, 103)
They said, 'We suffered harm before you came to us and after you
cameto us.' He said, 'It may well be that your Lord is going to
destroy your enemy and make you the successors in the land so that He
can see how you behave.' (Surat Al-A'raf, 129)
I will divert from My Signs all those who are arrogant in the earth
without any right. If they see every Sign, theywill not believe in it.
If they see the way of rightguidance, they will not take it as a way.
But if they see the way of error, they will take that as a way. That
is becausethey denied Our Signs and paid no attention tothem. (Surat
Al-A'raf, 146)
We conveyed the tribe of Israel across the sea and they came upon some
people who were devoting themselves to some idols which they had. They
said, 'Moses, give us a god just as these people have gods.'He said,
'You are indeed an ignorant people. (Surat Al-A'raf, 138)
What these people are doing is destined for destruction. What they are
doing is purposeless.' (Surat Al-A'raf, 139)
He said, 'Should I seek something other than Allah as a god for you
when He has favoured you over all other beings?' (Surat Al-A'raf, 140)
After he left, Moses's people adopted a calf made from their
ornaments, a form which made a lowing sound. Did they not see that it
could not speak tothem or guide them to any way? They adopted it and
so they were wrongdoers. (Surat Al-A'raf, 148)
When Moses returned to his people in anger and great sorrow, he said,
'What an evil thing you did in my absence after Ileft! Did you want to
hasten your Lord's command?' He threw down the Tablets and seized hold
of his brother's head, dragging him towards him. Harun said, 'Son of
my mother, The people oppressed me and almost killed me. Do not give
my enemies cause to gloat over me. Do not include me with the
wrongdoing people.' (Surat Al-A'raf, 150)
Those who follow the Messenger, the Unlettered Prophet, whom they find
written down with them in the Torah and the Gospel, commanding them to
doright and forbidding them to do wrong, making good things lawful for
them and bad things unlawful for them, relieving them of their heavy
loads and the chains which were around them. Those whobelieve in him
and honour him and help him, and follow the Light that has been sent
down with him, they arethe ones who are successful.' (Surat Al-A'raf,
157)
Ask them about the town which was by the sea when they broke
theSabbath – when their fish came to them near the surface on their
Sabbath day but did not come on the days which were not their Sabbath.
In this way We put them to the test because they were deviators.
(Surat Al-A'raf, 163)
When they were insolentabout what they had been forbidden to do, We
said to them, 'Be apes, despised, cast out!'(Surat Al-A'raf, 166)
Then your Lord announced that He would send against them until the Day
of Rising people who would inflict an evil punishment on them. Your
Lord is Swift in Retribution. And He is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
(Surat Al-A'raf, 167)
And We divided them into nations in the earth. Some of them are
rightious and some are other than that. We triedthem with good and
evilso that hopefully they would return. (Surat Al-A'raf, 168)
Those who are in the presence of your Lord donot consider themselves
too great to worship Him. They glorify His praise and they prostrate
to Him. (Surat Al-A'raf, 206)
Just as your Lord brought you out from your house with truth, even
though a group of the believers disliked it. (Surat Al-Anfal, 5)
Arguing with you about the Truth after it had been made clear as
though they were being driven to their death with open eyes. (Surat
Al-Anfal, 6)
And when your Lord revealed to the angels, 'I am with you so make
those who believe, firm. I will cast terror into the hearts of those
who are unbelievers, so strike their necks and strike all their finger
joints!' (Surat Al-Anfal, 12)
This was because they were hostile to Allah andHis Messenger. If
anyone is hostile to Allah and HisMessenger, Allah is severe in
retribution. (Surat Al-Anfal, 13)
That is your reward, so taste it. The unbelievers will also have the
punishment of the Fire. (Surat Al-Anfal, 14)
You who believe! Obey Allah and His Messenger. And do not turn away
from Him when you are able to hear. (Surat Al-Anfal, 20)
Do not be like those whosay, 'We hear,' when they do not hear. (Surat
Al-Anfal, 21)
The worst of beasts in Allah's sight are the deaf and dumb who have no
intellect. (Surat Al-Anfal, 22)
If Allah knew of any good in them, He would have made them able to
hear. But even if He had made them able to hear, they would still have
turned away. (Surat Al-Anfal, 23)
You who believe! respond to Allah and to the Messenger when He calls
you to what will bring you to life! Know that Allah intervenes between
a man and his heart and that you will be gathered to Him. (Surat
Al-Anfal, 24)
You who believe! do not betray Allah and His Messenger, and do not
knowingly betray your trusts. (Surat Al-Anfal, 27)
Obey Allah and His Messenger and do not quarrel among yourselves lest
you lose heart and your momentum disappear. And be steadfast. Allah is
with the steadfast. (Surat Al-Anfal, 46)
Say: 'If your fathers or your sons or your brothers or your wives or
your tribe, or any wealth you have acquired, or any business you fear
may slump, or any house which pleases you, are dearer to you than
Allah and His Messenger and struggle in His Way, thenwait until Allah
brings about His command. Allah does not guide people who are
deviators.' (Surat At-Tawba, 24)
You who believe! What is the matter with you that when you are told,
'Go out and fight in the way of Allah,' you sink down heavily to the
earth? Are you happier with the earth than the Hereafter? Yet the
enjoyment of the earth is very small compared to that of the
Hereafter. (Surat At-Tawba, 38)
If you do not go out to fight, He will punish you with a painful
punishment and substitute another people in your place. You will not
harm Him inany way. Allah has power over all things. (Surat At-Tawba,
39)
If it had been a case of easy gains and a short journey, they would
have followed you, but the distance was too great for them. They
willswear by Allah: 'Had we been able to, we would have gone out with
you.'They are destroying their own selves. Allah knows that they are
lying. (Surat At-Tawba, 42)
Nothing prevents what they give from being accepted from them but the
fact that they have rejected Allah and His Messenger, and that
theyonly come to perform prayer lethargically, and that they only give
reluctantly. (Surat At-Tawba, 54)
If only they had been pleased with what Allah and His Messenger had
given them and had said, 'Allah is enough for us. Allah will give us
of His bounty as will His Messenger. It is to Allah that we make our
plea.' (Surat At-Tawba, 59)
Among them are some who insult the Prophet, saying he is only an ear.
Say, 'An ear of good for you, believing in Allah and believing in the
believers, and a mercy for those among you who believe.' As for those
who insult the Messenger of Allah, they will have a painful
punishment. (Surat At-Tawba, 61)
They swear to you by Allah in order to please you, but it would be
more fitting for them to please Allah and His Messenger if they are
believers. (Surat At-Tawba, 62)
Do they not know that whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger, will
have the Fire of Hell, remaining in it timelessly, for ever? Thatis
the great disgrace. (Surat At-Tawba, 63)
If you ask them they will say, 'We were only joking and playing
around.' Say: 'Would youmake a mockery of Allah and of His Signs and
of His Messenger? (Surat At-Tawba, 65)
Do not try to excuse yourselves. You have become unbelievers after
having belief. If one group of you is pardoned, another group will be
punished for being evildoers.' (Surat At-Tawba, 66)
The men and women of the believers are friends of one another. They
command what is right and forbid what is wrong, and establish
performing prayer and give alm, and obey Allah and His Messenger. They
are the people on whomAllah will have mercy. Allah is Almighty,
All-Wise. (Surat At-Tawba, 71)
O Prophet, struggle against the unbelievers and hypocrites and be
harsh with them. Their shelter will be Hell. Whatan evil destination!
(Surat At-Tawba, 73)
So He has punished themby putting hypocrisy in their hearts until the
daythey meet Him because they failed Allah in what they promised Him
and because they lied. (Surat At-Tawba, 77)
You can ask forgiveness for them, or not ask forgiveness for them.
Even if you asked forgiveness for them seventy times, Allah still
would not forgive them. That is because they have rejected Allah and
His Messenger. Allah does not guide deviant people. (Surat
At-Tawba,80)
Those who were left behind were glad to staybehind the Messenger
ofAllah. They did not want to struggle with their wealth and
themselves in the Way of Allah. They said, 'Do not go out to fight in
the heat.' Say: 'The Fire of Hell is much hotter, if they only
understood.' (Surat At-Tawba, 81)
Let them laugh little and weep much, in repayment for what theyhave
earned. (Surat At-Tawba, 82)
If Allah returns you to a group of them, and they ask you for
permission to go out, say, 'You will never go out with me, nor will
you ever fight an enemy with me. You were happy to stay behind the
first time, so stay behind with those who are left behind.' (Surat
At-Tawba, 83)
Never pray over any of them who die or stand at their graves. They
rejected Allah and His Messenger and died as deviators. (Surat
At-Tawba, 84)
There are only grounds against those who ask you for permission to
stay when they are rich. They were pleased to be among those who were
left behind. Allah has sealed up their hearts so they do not know.
(SuratAt-Tawba, 93)
They will make excuses to you when you return to them. Say: 'Do not
make excuses, we will not believe you. Allah has already informed us
about you. Allah will see your actions, as will His Messenger. Then
you willbe returned to the Knower of the Unseen and the Visible, and
He will inform you regarding what you did.'(Surat At-Tawba, 94)
They will swear to you by Allah when you return to them, so that you
leave them alone. Leave them alone, then! They are filth. Their
shelter will be Hell as repayment for what theydid. (Surat At-Tawba,
95)
As for those who have set up a mosque, causingharm and out of
disbelief, to create division between the believers, and in readiness
for those who previously made war on Allah and His Messenger, they
will swear, 'We onlydesired the best.' But Allah bears witness that
they are truly liars. (Surat At-Tawba, 107)
The buildings they have built will not cease to be a bone of
contention in their hearts, until their hearts are cut to shreds.
Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. (Surat At-Tawba, 110)
Allah has turned towardsthe Prophet, and the Muhajirun and the Ansar,
those who followed him at the 'time of difficulty', after the hearts
of a group of them had almost deviated. Then He turned towards them –
He is All-Gentle, Most Merciful to them – (SuratAt-Tawba, 117)
But if they turn away, say, 'Allah is enough for me. There is no god
but Him. I have put my trust in Him. He is the Lord of the Mighty
Throne.' (Surat At-Tawba, 129)
No, the fact is that they have denied something which their knowledge
does not embrace and the meaning of which has not yet reached them. In
the same way those before them also denied the truth. See thefinal
fate of the wrongdoers! (Surah Yunus, 39)
Among them there are some who believe in it and some who do not. Your
Lord best knows the corrupters. (Surah Yunus, 40)
If they deny you, say, 'I have my actions and youhave your actions.
You are not responsible for what I do and I am not responsible for
what youdo.' (Surah Yunus, 41)
Among them there are some who listen to you. But can you make the deaf
hear even though they cannot understand?(Surah Yunus, 42)
Among them there are some who look at you. But can you guide the
blind, even though they cannot see? (Surah Yunus, 43)
No one believed in Moses except for a few of his peoples youth out of
fear that Pharaoh, and the elders, would persecute them. Pharaohwas
high and mighty in the land. He was one of the profligate. (Surah
Yunus, 83)
The ruling circle of thoseof his people who were unbelievers said, 'We
do not see you as anything but a human being like ourselves. We do not
seeanyone following you but the lowest of us, unthinkingly. We do not
see you as superior to us. On the contrary, we consider you to be
liars. (Surah Hud, 27)
He said, 'My people! What do you think? If I were to have clear
evidence from my Lord and He had given me a mercy direct from Him, but
you were blind to it, could we force it on you if you were unwilling?
(Surah Hud, 28)
They said, 'Noah, you have argued with us andargued much so bring
uswhat you have promisedus if you are telling the truth.' (Surah Hud,
32)
It sailed with them through mountainous waves, and Noah called out to
his son, who had kept himself apart, 'My son! Come on board withus. Do
not stay with the unbelievers!' (Surah Hud,42)
He said, 'I will take refuge on a mountain; It will protect me from
the flood.' He said, 'There is no protection from Allah's command
today except for those He has mercy on.' The waves surged in between
themand he was among the drowned. (Surah Hud, 43)
They said, 'Hud, you have not brought us any clear sign. We will not
forsake our gods for what you say. We do notbelieve you. (Surah Hud,
53)
That was 'Ad. They denied the Signs of theirLord and disobeyed His
Messengers and followed the command of every obdurate tyrant. (Surah
Hud, 59)
They said, 'Salih, we had great hopes in you before this happened. Do
you forbid us to worship what our fathers worshipped? We have grave
doubts aboutwhat you are calling us to.' (Surah Hud, 62)
My people! Here is the she-camel of Allah as a Sign for you. So leave
her alone to eat on Allah's earth and do not inflict any harm on her
or you will be overcome by an imminent punishment.' (Surah Hud, 64)
But they hamstrung her, so he said, 'Enjoy yourselves in your land for
three more days. That is a promise which will not be belied.' (Surah
Hud, 65)
My people! Do not let your breach with me provoke you into doing wrong
so that the same thing happens to you as happened to the people of
Noah and the people of Hud and the people ofSalih; and the people of
Lut are not far distant from you. (Surah Hud, 89)

Seeking to eliminate excellent religious virtues in the name of modernity is a danger that may even lead to irreligion
Altruism, devotion, understanding, being lovable, compassion,
affection, patience, good manners, respect for one's elders,
protecting the needy, and public spirit are excellent virtues bestowed
on a Muslim by the moral values of the Qur'an. These virtuesare
manifested in the best and most intense form in a Muslim who has a
sincere faith in andfears Allah and who is loyal to the Qur'an. A
Muslim who lacks any of these characteristics, or feels weak or
deficient in one or more areas, will strive to immediately to correct
and eliminate that deficiency, through fear and love of Allah, and to
acquire the moral valuesthat are most pleasing toHim.
These virtues are all manifestations of the warm and love-filled
spirit of the religion of Allah. When such virtues are lacking, the
result is a soulless, mechanical, harsh and frozen spirit. It is
obvious that someone who lacks the fervor of good moral values, who
does not excitedly strive for Allah's approval and who has turned into
a robot will have a cold and superficial view of Allah. It is also
clear that Allah will not be remembered with joy and passion and
profound fervor with such a perspective. A person will not be full of
the love of Allah and he will not feel or have a deep fear of Allah.
This perspective will turn a person away from the warmth of the
religion of Allah, it also causes one to forget that everything
happens by Allah's permission, that nobody has the power to do
anything unless Allah so wishes, that all ranks and stations belong to
Allah, that every minute of life unfolds as Allah wishes and that
nobody other than Allah has any power at all. Life for someone who
forgets these truths is a far cry from Allah's commandments, the moral
values of the Qur'an and the Sunna of our Prophet (saas), and all that
remains are "the facts of the life of this world." In that case, the
result is people who mayappear to be Muslims, who may perform their
religious obligations, but who in fact lack the soul of a Muslim. Even
more importantly, Allah forgets he who forgets Allah and arranges all
things according to the laws of this world.
For that reason, it is of the utmost importance for Muslims to protect
themselves against all indoctrination and conditioning that might lead
them to live cold and soulless lives devoid of beauty. The mindset
that depicts altruism, loyalty, respect, love anddevotion as
invaluable and portrays the opposite characteristics as modernity is a
devilish one that seeks to turn Muslims from the true essence of
Islam.
We must not forget that a conception of religion without soul, love or
warmth is not the Islam described in the Qur'an. It is not the Islam
that our Prophet (saas) and the Companions lived by.What makes a
Muslim valuable in the sight of Allah and other Muslims is first of
all, of course, faith and takwa, followed by moral virtues, altruism,
patience, kindness, affection, humility, respect for his elders, and
devotion to his Muslim brothers. All of these characteristics
andvirtues are stemming from his love of Allah. Muslims who know that
any weakening of these virtues may lead to a weakening of faith
muststrongly avoid falling into such a situation andmust always reject
any model far removed from the love of Allah, deep moral virtue, and
the joyof faith for the sake of modernity.
affection, patience, good manners, respect for one's elders,
protecting the needy, and public spirit are excellent virtues bestowed
on a Muslim by the moral values of the Qur'an.

The Explanation of Soorat Al-Bayyinah (Clear Evidence) - II
The text of the chapter [from verse 6 to the end]
6. Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and
the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally
therein. Those are the worst of creatures.
7. Indeed, they who have believedand done righteous deeds — those are
the best of creatures.
8. Their reward with Allaah will be gardens of perpetual residence
beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allaah
being pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever has
feared hisLord.
Explanation
Allaah, the Most High, informs us about the end of the unjust
rejecters of faith from among thePeople of the Book and the
polytheists who oppose the revealed Books of Allaah and the Prophets,
may Allaah exalt their mention, sent by Him, saying thatthey (the
rejecters) will be thrown into the Hell-fire on the Day of
Resurrection, to abide therein for all eternity. They will not be able
to evade it, nor will they be removed from it.
" Those are the worst of creatures. "
That is, the most despised of Allaah's creatures. Then He, Most High,
informs us concerning those who are pious, fear Allaah and are true
Believers, confirmingby their words and deeds that they are the best
of created beings. Abu Hurayrah and a number of Muslim scholars have
concluded from this verse that the true believer is superior to the
angels, who are part of thecreation .
" Their reward with Allaah " that is, on the Day of Resurrection .
" Gardens of Eden under which rivers flow; they will dwell therein
forever ." That is, without interruption, without ceasing .
" Allaah being pleased with them-" That is, Allaah's Pleasure is
better and more sublime than the lasting felicity, which they aregiven
.
" and they with Him. " That is, with the infinite Grace bestowed on
them by Him .
" That is for whoever has feared his Lord. "
That is, this reward can be achieved by him who fears Allaah and is
devout with a sincere devotion, who worships Him always as if he was
seeing Him, knowing that, though he does not see his Lord, his Lord
sees him. It is reported on the authority of Abu Hurayrah that he
said: "The Messenger of Allaah said:
"Shall I not inform you about the best of creation?" They (the
audience) said: "Certainly, O, Messenger of Allaah!" He said: "A man
who takes the reins of his horse (and rides it) in the Way of Allaah
(in Jihaad) and whenever he hears the call of one in distress, he
rides to his rescue. Shall I not inform you of the best of creation?"
They said: "Certainly,O, Messenger of Allaah!" He said: "A man who
(even when he) is busy with his sheep, is steadfast in prayer and pays
Zakaah (alms). Shall I not inform you about the worst of creation?"
They said:"Certainly, O, Messenger of Allaah!" He said: "The one who
asks in Allaah's Name, but does not give in His Name." [Imam Ahmad]
Maalik Ibn 'Amr Ibn Thaabit Al-Ansaari said: "When the Soorah (Quranic
chapter) " Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the
Scripture and the polytheists… " [Al-Bayyinah] was revealed, Archangel
Jibreel (Gabriel) said toProphet Muhammad : "O, Messenger of Allaah!
Verily, your Lord orders you to recite this Soorah to Ubayy (one of
the prominent reciters and scribes ofthe Noble Quran among the
Companions)." So, the Messenger of Allaah said to Ubayy : "Verily,
Jibreel has ordered me to make you recite this Soorah." Ubayy said:
"Then I was mentioned, O, Messenger of Allaah?" He said: "Yes." Then
Ubayy wept. [Imaams Ahmad, Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]
Imaams At-Tirmithi and An-Nasa'ee have reported something similar.
This Soorah was read to Ubayy Ibn Ka'b merely to strengthen him in his

The Explanation of Soorat Al-Bayyinah (Clear Evidence) - I
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
1. Those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the
polytheists were not to be parted [from disbelief] until therecame to
them clear evidence —
2. A Messenger from Allaah, reciting purified scriptures.
3. Within which are correct writings [i.e. rulings and laws].
4. Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided until
after there had come to them clear evidence.
5. And they were not commanded except to worship Allaah, [being]
sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and toestablish prayer
and to give Zakaah (alms). And that is the correct religion.
As for the People of the Scripture they are the Jews and Christians,
while the polytheists are those who worship idols and fire from
amongst the Arabs and the non-Arabs. Mujaahid said: " were not to be
parted " means that they (the People of the Scripture) will not cease
until the Clear Evidence came to them. What the 'Clear Evidence' is,
is explained by the following verse (which means): " A Messenger from
Allaah, reciting purified scriptures ", That is, Muhammad, sallAllaahu
alayhi wa sallam, and that which he recites from the Noble Quran,
which was copied by the Heavenly Host (i.e., the angels), on purified
sheets, as in the Words of Allaah (which mean) :
"[It is recorded] in honored sheets, exalted and purified, [carried]
by the hands of messenger-angels, noble and dutiful. " [Quran
80:13-16]
" Within which are correct writings [i.e., rulings and laws] ."
Ibn Jareer said: "It means that amongst the purified scriptures are
Scriptures from theBooks of Allaah, of inestimable value, full of
justice, perfectly correct, without any error, because they are from
Allaah, theAlmighty, the All-Powerful."
Qataadah said: " A Messengerfrom Allaah, reciting purified scriptures
" means that the Quranis mentioned with the best description and that
Allaah extolsit in the most laudatory terms."
Ibn Zayd said, concerning theverse (which means): " Within which are
correct writings " : "It means correct and fair. I say: The Words of
Him, the Most High: " Nor did those who were given the Scripture
become divided until after there had come to them clear evidence " are
like His Words (which mean) : " And do not be like the ones who became
divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. And
those will have a great punishment ." [Quran 3: 105] Thatis, the
communities (the People of the Books) before us, after Allaah, the
Exalted, revealed to them proofs and clear signs, became divided and
disputed amongst themselves as to what was required of them by Allaah,
the Most High, in their revealed books. They became involved in major
differences as is made clear by the Hadeeth (narration) in which the
Prophet, sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam, said: "Verily, theJews are
divided into seventy-onedifferent sects, and verily, the Christians
are divided into seventy-two sects, and verily, my community will be
divided into seventy-three different sects - all of whom will be in
the Hell-Fire except one." His Companions asked: "And who are they, O,
Messenger of Allaah?" He, sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam, replied:
"Those who follow the path of me and my Companions ."
And they were not commanded except to worship Allaah, [being] sincere
to Him in religion, inclining to truth… " This is like Allaah's Words
(which mean) : "And We sent not before you any messenger except that
We revealed to him that, there is no deity except Me, so worship Me. "
[Quran 21: 25] For this reason, Allaah Says (which means): " inclining
to truth " that is, professing and practicing the True Religion
(Islamic Monotheism) without associatingany partners with Allaah, as
in HisWords (which mean) : "And We certainly sent into every nation a
messenger, [saying] 'Worship Allaah and avoid false deities.' " [Quran
16: 36]
" and to establish prayer " - whichis the most noble of all physical
activities .
"and to give Zakaah (alms) " - which is to be charitable towardsthe
poor and the needy .
" And that is the correct religion ."
That is the True, the Correct, and the Just Faith - to belong to the
most upright, religious community - a moderate community. Many
scholars, including Az-Zuhri and Ash-Shaafi'i have concluded from this
verse that true faith must include action (not just belief in the
heart), and for this reason, Allaah, the Exalted, Says (what means):
"And they were not commanded except to worship Allaah, [being] sincere
to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to
give Zakaah (alms). And that is the correct religion . " :

The Sacred months
Allaah Almighty Says (what means): "Indeed, the number of months with
Allaah is twelve (lunar) months in the register of Allaah (from) the
day He created the heavens and the earth; ofthese, four are sacred.
That is the correct religion (i.e. way), so do not wrong yourselves
during them. And fight against the disbelievers collectively as they
fight against you collectively. And know that Allaah is with the
righteous (who fear Him)" [Quran 9: 36]
It is with the wisdom of Allaah that He favored some months over
others, like favoring the month of Ramadhaan over all other months,
because it is the month of mercy, the month of Quran, the month of
forgiveness and freeing of people from the Fire. Itis a month which
people glorified during the pre-Islamic period as well, and after
Islam it became even more glorified.
Moreover, the month of Muharram (which means forbidden in Arabic) was
called that because the Arabs used to forbid fighting during it. Safar
(which means zero in Arabic) was given this name because the Arabs
used to loot all the property of the enemy after defeating them in
battle (i.e. they left nothing behind). Rabee' Al-Awwal (which means
graze in Arabic) because they used to graze their cattle during this
month. Jumaadaa (which means solid in Arabic) was giventhis name
because water used to freeze during thismonth. Rajab (which means
remove in Arabic) was given this name because the Arabs used to remove
the heads of their spears and refrain from fighting. Sha'baan (which
is anything positioned between two things in Arabic) was given this
name because it comes between Ramadhaan and Rajab. Ramadhaan (which
means heat in Arabic) was given this name because of the hot
temperature and excessive heat of the sun during this month. Shawwaal
(which means raise in Arabic) was giventhis name because she camels
would raise their tails when they became pregnant. Thul-Qi'dah (which
means sitting in Arabic) was given this name because it was the month
during which theywould sit and stop fighting. Thul-Hijjah (which
refers to Hajj in Arabic) was given this name because it was the month
during which theyperformed Hajj.
In the abovementioned verse, Allaah informs us that since He created
the Heavens and earth, and created days and nights, and made the sun
and the moon, each float in an orbit, as a result of which the
darkness of nights and the light of days occur. It was from that time
that Allaah had set the months to be twelve, and He, Almighty,
informed us that He, Almighty, designated four of them to be sacred.
We must respect the sanctity of these sacred months, by adhering to
the commandments of Allaah, and rejecting that which the people of the
pre-Islamic period were upon, like delaying the restrictions of these
months or changing theirsequence. It is for this reason that the
Prophet said in his farewell pilgrimage: "O People! Time has gone back
to how it was at the time Allaah created the Heavens and the Earth. A
year has twelve months, four of which are sacred, three consecutive,
Thul-Qi'dah, Thul-Hijjah, Muharram, and Rajab, which comes between
Jumaadaa and Sha'baan." [Al-Bukhaari]
The words (which mean) "…when He created the Heavens and earth…"
[Quran 9: 36] are to clarify that the decree of Allaah took place very
early on, and that He set the months, named them and sequenced them
when He created the Heavens and the earth, then He revealed this upon
His Prophets withinthe divined Books.
The verse is informing us that the ruling of these months will remain
(names, sequence and sacredness), and the changes made by the
disbelievers to the sequence would have no effect. Moreover, whatever
the disbelievers had changedcould not change what Allaah had decreed.
This verse also indicates that it is compulsory to base acts of
worship and Islamic rulings on these months, and not the onesthe
Christians use. Therefore, it is not fit for a Muslim to prefer using
these Roman or Christian months over these Arabic(named) months.
They are: Thul-Qi'dah, Thul-Hijjah, Muharram, and Rajab which is
between Jumaadaa Al-Aakhirah and Sah'baan. It was also called Rajab of
Mudhar, because the tribe of Mudhar used to adhere to its sacredness,
while another tribe by the name of Rabee'ah Ibn Nizaar used to change
sacredness of Rajab to Ramadhaan. In order to lift this confusion the
Prophet said: "Rajab, which comes between Jumaadaa and Sah'baan".
Allaah Says in the same verse (which means): "…that is the right
religion" meaning, this Sharee'ah (Islamic law) and obedience therein,
isthe right and straight path. Then Allaah continues Saying that
(which means): "Do not wrong (oppress) yourselves therein" [Quran 9:
36] which is referring to all months ofthe year but the sacred months
hold a special position which makes oppressing oneself greater, just
as Allaah Says (what means): "no sexual relation (with spouse), no
sinning, nor unjust dispute" [Quran 9: 36] and this certainly does not
indicate that one can sin other than the time of Hajj but it is to
reflect the greatness ofsinning during its rituals.
Do not wrong (oppress) yourselves by fighting and committing sins,
because when Allaah honors something for one reason, it becomes that
much honored, but when He honors for two or more reasons, then
sacredness becomes more, and punishment for disobedience is multiplied
accordingly. For example, one who obeys Allaah during the sacred
months in the sacred area will receive more reward than obeying Allaah
during other months, and the one who obeys Allaah during months other
than the sacred months outside the sacred area will receive less
reward than he who obeys Allaahinside the sacred area. Allaah gave an
indicationto this in His Saying (which means): "O wives of the
Prophet, whoever of you should commit a clear immorality – for herthe
punishment will be doubled two fold, and ever is that for Allaah,
easy." [Quran 33:30]
Allaah is twelve (lunar) months in the register of Allaah (from) the
day He created the heavens and the earth; ofthese, four are sacred.
That is the correct religion (i.e. way), so do not wrong yourselves
during them. And fight against the disbelievers collectively as they
fight against you collectively. And know that Allaah is with the

the disbelievers had changedcould not change what Allaah had decreed.
The company gave him some money to buy a computer to develop his skills at work; is it permissible for him to sell it and make use of the money?.,Dought clear -
I am an engineer working for a company. One of the perks that I get in
return for my work is a sum of money to compensate me for what I have
spent on updating my engineering skills, such as conferences and
books. If I do not use themoney during one year, the company keeps the
money. The company also allows me, as a one-off, to buy a computer
without stipulating any maximum limit on the price of this computer.
Some of my colleagues who have the same perks bought a computer and
gave the invoice to the company to show that they bought this
computer, then they returned the computer to the store and took the
money andkept it. Is it permissible for me to do the same thing?.
Praise be to Allah.
It is not permissible for you to make use of this money except in
accordance with the conditions stipulated by those who are in charge
of your work, which is buying a computer and using it as they have
stipulated to update your engineering skills and so on. It is not
permissible for you to buy the computer and give the invoice to the
company, then return the computer to the store and take its price, as
your colleagues have done. That is for the following reasons:
1.
This is contrary to the conditions on the basis of which you took this
money, and it is not permissible, because anycondition that does not
permit something prohibited or prohibit something permissible must be
fulfilled, because the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon
him) said: "The Muslims are bound by their conditions." Narrated by
Abu Dawod, 3594; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.
2.
This is regarded as deceit, lying and using tricks to consume people's
wealth unlawfully, because you are making them think that you have
bought the computer when in fact you have returned itand taken its
price. Deceit and lying are both haraam according to the laws of
Allah, may He be glorified.
3.
It is proven that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah
be upon him) said: "It is not permissible (to take) the wealth of a
man unless he gives it willingly."
Narrated by Ahmad, 20172); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh
al-Jaami', 7662.
It is certain that if those who are in charge of thecompany knew that
you had taken this money and not bought a computer with it, they would
not approve of that.
4.
In most cases the company only stipulates that their employees should
buy these computers for the benefit of the company, by raising the
standards of the employees, updating the computers that they use, and
other things that will benefit the company and its productivity and
efficiency. This is like what is called in sharee'ah a gift given with
the expectation of some return, which is when one person gives agift
to another in the hope that he will compensate him for it, which is a
kind of gift with conditions or a gift that brings a reward. In the
case of this kind of gift, if the giver does notget what he intended
of returns or the recipient does not adhere to the conditions
stipulated by the giver, the giver has the right to take back hisgift.
Ibn 'Aabideen (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his Haashiyah
(5/710): A woman gave up her mahr to her husband on condition that he
take her for Hajj, but he did not take her for Hajj. Muhammad ibn
Muqaatilsaid: She may take back her mahr, because consent to give the
gift was on condition that there be some compensation; if there isno
compensation there is no consent, and the gift is not valid if there
isno consent. /
Based on that, it is not permissible to make use of this money except
in the manner stipulated by the company.
And Allah knows best.

Does being in debt mean that zakaah is no longer due? Can he delayzakaah because he has no cash available?.,Dought clear -
In our country we have been affected by war and we were expelled from
our land 23 years ago. Praise be to Allah, my father and I are settled
now and we have a business. We borrowed money in order to settle and
start a business, the value of which was 1 million. When we worked out
the value of zakaah that we owe on the property and trade goods that
wehave in our possession, it was estimated to be 7 million, and the
trade goods on which zakaah is due are worth 5 or 6 million.
My questions are:
1. Are we required to pay zakaah, as we have not paid it all these
yearsbecause we were not able to pay off the debt of 1 million? Was it
correct for us not to pay zakaah?
2. We do not have any cash now, if we are required to pay zakaah. We
helped a brother of ours to pay off a debt heowed, so that he could
pay off the borrowed amount without paying the interest that had been
agreed upon. Is it possible for us to waive this debt and thus pay off
the zakaah that we owe?
3. We own some property in the country where the war was, that we took
possession of after the war ended, andwe are planning to sell this
property in order to pay off debts and so thatwe can buy a house in
the place where we live now. Is this property subject to zakaah?.
Praise be to Allah.
Firstly:
Zakaah is due on trade goods according to the correct scholarly
opinion. Whatever has been prepared for trade is subject to zakaah if
it reaches the nisaab or minimum threshold and one hijri year has
passedsince the capital was acquired.
Secondly:
According to the correct scholarly view, debt does not mean that
zakaah is waived. If a person owns the minimum threshold and one hijri
year has passed, he must pay his zakaah, even if he owes a debt that
brings his wealth lower than the minimum threshold. But if he pays off
his debts before the new zakaah year begins, and his wealth falls
below the minimum threshold, then he does not have topay anything.
See the answer to question no. 109896
Thirdly:
Based on the above, you have to pay zakaah for the years during which
you did not pay zakaah when it was due from you. The fact that you did
not know that debt does not waive the obligation of zakaah does not
cancel out the obligation that was due from the wealth, even if it
does mean that the burden of sin for not paying zakaah on time
iswaived.
Fourthly:
If a person lends money to someone, he does nothave the right to let
him off and count it as part of his zakaah. This is the view of the
majority of scholars. So you do not have the right to count what you
lent to this person as being part of your zakaah. But if you gave him
the zakaah of your wealth, and he returned it to you in order to pay
off his debt or part of it, there is no blame on you for that.
See the answer to question no. 13901 . Based on that, it is not
permissible for you to count what you lent to this man as part of your
zakaah.
Fifthly:
If zakaah is due from a person and he does not have any cash with
which to pay the zakaah, then he has the choice: either he can sell
some of the wealth on which zakaah is due and pay the zakaah; or he
can give some of the trade goods that he has that are equal in value
to the zakaah he owes, if thosegoods are things that will be of
benefit to the poor, such as food, clothing and so on; or this zakaah
may remain something that he owes until he acquires cash with which to
pay zakaah, if selling something on which zakaah is due will affect
him adversely. See the answer to question no. 177963
Sixthly:
With regard to the property in the land where war occurred, if you
could not dispose of it or reach it because of the war, no zakaah is
due on it for the past period, because it comesunder the ruling on
property that was usurped and could not be disposed of. But as you
have been able to obtain it and dispose of it, then to be on the safe
side you should pay zakaah of one year on it for what has passed, even
if it was many years. See the answer to question no. 129657
All of this applies if this wealth was things on which zakaah is due
in the first place, such as cash, gold, silver and thelike. As for
property suchas agricultural land and real estate, there is no zakaah
on that at all; rather zakaah is due on the crops and returns. During
wartime, there were no crops or returns.
And Allah knows best.

How a Person Could Change!
The following story was narrated to us by brother Mahmud from Preston,
England. Once, he along with a group ofMuslims were visiting a city
for inviting others toAllah. They happened to pass by a group of
youths who were Muslims by birth but became gang members. The brothers
didn't give those gang members thenegative attitude that others give
while passing by them. Rather, they went and hand-shook with them out
of brotherhood. With love and affection, the brothers invited the
youths to come to the Masjid. Not being familiar with such kindness,
the gang members were surprisedand decided to come to the Masjid for
once. These youths were so much away from Islam that they were smoking
in the Masjid and doing a lot of other disrespectful acts. However,
brother Mahmud and others were discussing with them about the
Greatness of Allah with patience and endurance.A time came when the
brothers had to return to their homes and before leaving they advised
the gang members to turn towards Allah.
After several years, brother Mahmud was attending a large gathering of
Muslims when suddenly someonecalled him from the back. There were few
people dressed in sunnah standing behind him. They asked brother
Mahmud if he recognizesthem. They told him, We are those gang members
whom you visited few years back. We decided to go out and learn more
about Islam and eventually changed our lives.
Dear readers, we should never underestimate certain people because of
the way they are as every individual has the capacity to become a
friend of Allah. It is only Allah who guides; we can only try with
kindness to reach out to their hearts.

Imam Bukhari cured from blindness
Imam Bukhari, who was one of the greatest compilers of ahadith, became
blind at a youngage. He had recourse to many famous and skilleddoctors
of his time but their treatments made no difference. His mother was a
pious worshipper and a righteous woman. She cried out for help in the
court of Allah the Almighty, for her child and begged for the
restoration of his eyesight. At last, "the river of mercy flowed over
her," and Almighty Allah accepted her invocation. One night, she
visited Ibrahim alayhis-salam in a dreamand was told, "Allah has
restored the sight of your son because of your intense and beautiful
invocations." In the morning, as Imam Bukhari got up from his bed,
glimmers of light reached out into his eyes. That is, his eyesightwas
fully restored.

Make use of salah and dua to solve any problem that even the best
experts of this world cannot solve. Unfortunately, the Muslims are
turning away from these deeds today when they need them the most. We
pray for Allah to give us the true understading of Islam.
