UN votes to boost Syria mission

The United Nations Security Council unanimously agreed in a vote on
Saturday to send 300 observers to Syria to monitor a shaky ceasefire
as UN monitors visited the restive province of Homs.
The council's 15 members endorsed Resolution 2043, authorising up to
300 unarmed military observers to go to Syria for an initial 90 days
to monitor the truce and implementation of a six-point peace plan.
A small advance team of monitors toured several districts of Homs
city, including the neighbourhood of Baba Amr where hundreds of people
were killed in a month-long bombardment by regime forces, monitors
said.
"A team of international observers visited the province of Homs and
met the governor,"the state-run news agency SANA reported.
The US envoy to the United Nations Susan Rice, current president of
the 15-member Security Council, said Saturday's resolution was
passed"unanimously."
According to its text the resolution calls on President Bashar
al-Assad"to carry out promises on troop movements and heavy
weapons,"in line with a six-point peace plan drawn by international
envoy Kofi Annan.
Syria agreed to the plan which also called for the ceasefire that went
into effect April 12.
But the new resolution also adds two new calls to complete the
pullback of troops and weapons from population centres, where the
previous resolution only spoke of beginning the withdrawal.
Saturday's resolution does not mention any threat of new sanctions
against the Syrian regime but says the council will evaluate the
situation and"consider further steps"if Damascus does not allow
implementation of the observer mission.
The resolution says Syria must ensure"unhindered deployment"of mission
personnel and give them"full, unimpeded freedom of movement and
access"including ability to communicate freely and privately with
individuals throughout Syria without retaliation against them.
It also notes that the cessation of violence is"clearly incomplete"as
reports from Syria continue to speak of casualties and violence.
On Saturday the opposition Syrian National Council claimed that Homs
neighbourhoods were being pounded, although an activist there said the
situation was calm.
But in the town of Qusayr, near the Lebanese border in Homs province,
a sniper shot dead a woman on Saturday, said the Syrian Observatory
for Human Rights.
Also in the run-up to the UN vote, state media reported the release 30
people detained for their alleged role in Syria's anti-regime
uprising, but who have"no blood on their hands."
The move takes to nearly 4,000 the number of people the authorities
have freed since November, SANA said.
Ahead of the vote, many Western nations, including the United States,
had strong doubts that the resolution would be passed, and several
Western envoys highlighted the risks of sending monitors to Syria.
"The deployment of the first 10 observers in Syria has not changed the
murderous behaviour of the regime,"said France's UN ambassador Gerard
Araud, who added that Assad had shown"contempt"for UN action.
However Russia's UN ambassador Vitaly Churkin, whose country played a
leading role in drawing up the resolution, told the council:"This
resolution is of fundamental importance to push forward the process of
the peaceful settlement in Syria."
On top of the military observers, civilian experts will go to Syria to
advise on political and public security developments.
The council approved an advanced mission of 30 observers and seven are
already in Syria where the UN says more than 9,000 people have been
killed in the 13-month crackdown on dissent against Assad's rule.
Meanwhile the Syrian Observatory reported that"a loud explosion was
heard Saturday at the Mazzeh military airport in Damascus,"but
provided no further details.
Activists however told AFP that the army blocked the road leading to
the base while snipers took position on rooftops in the area.
Sporadic clashes between government troops and army deserters have
rocked Damascus in recent weeks, ahead of the April 12 ceasefire.
Elsewhere, an"armed terrorist group"on Saturday blew up a section of
an oil pipeline in the Deir Ezzor region of northeast Syria, SANA
said.
On Friday, violence persisted on the ground, with at least 46 people
killed as thousands of Syrians protested against Assad's regime,
according to monitors and activists.
Monitors say more than 200 people have been killed in Syria since the
shaky ceasefire to which the government and rebels committed
themselves went into effect./

Eagle Story is about a wounded Eaglet who was rescued by a kind farmer:

Eagle Story is about a wounded Eaglet who was rescued by a kind
farmer. Farmer found Eaglet in oneof his fields, and so took him home,
tended to his wounds, and then placed him outside in the barnyard to
recover.
Strangely enough, Eaglet soon adapted to the habits of all the
barnyard chickens. Eaglet learned to walk and cluck like chickens.
Eaglet learned to drink from a trough and peck the dirt for food, and
for many years Eaglet peacefully resigned himselfto this new life on
the farmand grow up to become beautiful Eagle.
But then one day, one of the farmer's friends spotted the Eagle and
asked, "Why in the world isthat Eagle acting like a Chicken?" The
farmer told him what had happened, yet the friend could hardly accept
the situation.
"It's just not right," said thefriend. "The Almighty Creator made that
Eagle to soar in the sky, not scavenge in the barnyard!" So he picked
up the unsuspecting Eagle, climbed onto a nearby fence post, and
tossed him into the air. But the confused Eagle just fell back to
earth and scurried off in search of his feathered friends.
Undaunted, the friend thengrabbed the Eagle and climbed to the top of
the barn. As he heaved him off the roof, the Eagle made a few
halfhearted squawks and flaps before falling intoa bale of hay. After
shakinghis head a few times, the Eagle then made himself comfortable
and began mindlessly pecking at pieces of straw.
The friend went home that night dejected, and could barely sleep as he
remembered the sight of those powerful talons caked with barnyard mud.
He couldn't bear the thought, so the very next day, he headed back to
the farm for another try. This time he carried the Eagle tothe top of
a nearby mountain where the sky unfolded in a limitless horizon.
He looked into the Eagle's eyes and cried out, "Don't you understand?
You weren't made to live like a Chicken! Why would you want to stay
down here when you were born for the sky?" As the man held the
confused Eagle aloft, hemade sure the Eagle was facing into the
brilliant light of the setting sun. Then he powerfully heavedthe bird
into the sky, and this time the Eagle opened his wings, looked at the
sun, caught the updraft rising from the valley, and disappeared into
the clouds of sky.
Moral ♥ :Do you know that we, too, were born for some high purpose in
this life? The Almighty Creator has called us to live in the heights,
yet too many of ushave huddled together in the barnyard, not
struggling to search for ourown Islamic identity and the purpose of
Islamic life? —

Sunstroke: Prevention and Prevalence:

Don't fall prey to the unrelenting Indian summer heat. Take these
precautions and keep yourself and your loved ones safe from sunstroke.
What is sunstroke?
Sunstroke is a severe form of heat stroke, which if nottreated
quickly, can endanger life. It occurs when the body is unable to
regulate its temperature due to exposure to excessive heat. Much like
a thermostat, our body has a mechanism to control the temperature.
This heatregulating system helps the body stay cool in summer and warm
in winters. The body perspires in summers to stay cool.
Dehydration can lead to sunstroke. The body loses water to excessive
perspiration and if this is not replenished the body takes up water
from the blood stream. This has an impact on the heart and brain.
Sunstroke has to be treated as a medical emergency. Dehydration can
also lead to other complications like difficulty in passing urine,
burning sensation and urinary tract infections.
Prevalence of sunstroke in India
With global temperatures rising, Indian summers aretaking a heavy toll
of life. Temperatures are reachingas high as 48-50 degrees in places
like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, parts of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.
Heat wave conditions are an everyday reality in peak season.
Those unable to withstandsuch high temperatures immediately fall prey
to it.Young children and elderlypeople are high-risk groups that need
to stay protected during the peak of summer.
Symptoms of sunstroke include
*. Dizziness
*. Headache
*. Rapid pulse rate
*. High fever
*. Rise in body temperature
*. Unconsciousness
*. Nausea
*. Hallucinations
*. Convulsion
Treatment of sunstroke
Identify the symptoms as early as possible and treat the condition
like an emergency. Try to lower the body temperature by using ice
packs on the head and covering the body with wet towels. Give fluids
to the patient –electrolyte fluids or fresh lime or coconut water are
recommended. In severe cases IV fluids may be required.
In case of fits and seizures rush the patient to a hospital.
Prevention of sunstroke
*. Schools switch to summer timings after exams but you still need to
take care that on the way back children do notlinger about in the sun
to play and get back home quickly.
*. Adults should try to avoid going out in the heat between noon and 3pm.
*. The elderly at home should be made to drink water at intervals even
ifthey are not thirsty. As the constitution is weak in old age the
body can still develop heat stroke conditions even while at home in
front of the cooler.
*. Wearing loose fitting, light cotton clothes is a good idea.
*. Keep plenty of cool drinking water available for everyone.
*. Avoid excessive physical activity in the mid day. Workouts and
practices should be completed in the cool early morning hours./

Hijaab: definition and conditions:

Hijaab is an Arabic word that describes the Muslim woman's entire
dress code, which includes a veil and whatever else is needed to cover
everything except the face and hands. It is adopted at puberty - an
age when, according to Islam, people become accountable for their
actions.
This essay will attempt to brieflyenumerate the basic requirements
regarding the Hijaab as stipulated by the Sharee'ah (Islamic Law). The
term Hijaab includes not only dress and the covering of the body, but
also the methods of behaviour that one has before members of the same
and/or opposite sex, promoting privacy for females and prohibiting
loose intermingling between males and females; it is, therefore, an
encouragement of modesty, decency, and chastity.
The following requirements represent the ones agreed uponby the
overwhelming majority ofIslamic scholars and are all solidly backed by
firm evidence taken from the Quran, the Sunnah (Prophetic traditions)
and the practice of the Companions of the Prophet .
1. The Extent of Covering
The dress worn in public must cover the entire body except what has
been specifically excluded, based upon the following verse:
Allaah Says (what means): "And tell the believing women to reduce
[some] of their vision andguard their private parts and not display
their adornment [Zeenah] except only that which [ordinarily] appears
thereof and to draw their headcovers [Khumur] over their chests and
not display their adornment [i.e.,beauty] except to their husbands,
their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands'
sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their
female slaves, their women [i.e., their sisters in Islam], or those
male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet
aware of the private aspectsof women. And let them not stamp their
feet to make knownwhat they conceal of their adornment. And turn to
Allaah inrepentance, all of you, O Believers, in order that you might
succeed." [Quran 24:31]
The word Zeenah in the above verse literally means adornment, and includes both:
(a) That which Allaah has adorned (i.e., the woman's natural and/or
physical beauty), and,
(b) That with which they adorn themselves (i.e., jewellery, eye
shadow, attractive clothing, hand dye, etc). The word 'Khumur' (pl. of
'Khimaar') refersto a cloth that covers the head (including the ears),
hair, neck and bosom.
2. Thickness
The garment should be thick andopaque so as not to display the skin
colour and form of the body beneath it. Delicate or transparent
clothing does not constitute a proper covering. Imaam Al-Qurtubi
reported anarration from 'Aa'ishah that some women from the tribe of
Banu Tameem came to see her wearing transparent clothing. 'Aa'ishah
said to them: "If you are believing women, these are not the clothes
of believing women." He also reported that on another occasion, a
bride came to see her wearing a sheer, transparent Khimaar, whereupon
'Aa'ishah remarked: "A woman who wears such clothing does not believe
in Soorah An-Noor (i.e., the chapter in the Quran that contains the
abovementioned verse regarding the Hijaab)." Moreover, the following
Hadeeth makes this point graphically clear. Prophet Muhammad said:
"There will be among the last of my Ummah(Nation), scantily dressed
women; they will wear their hairon top of their heads, like a camel's
hump. Curse them - for verily they are cursed."
3. Looseness
The clothing must hang loosely and not be so tight and fitting asto
show the shape and size of the woman's body. This obviously prohibits
such things as skin-tight body suits and the like. The following
Hadeeth proves this point clearly. Usaamah bin Zayd said: The Prophet
once gave me a gift of thick Coptic cloth that he had received as a
gift from Dahiyyah Al-Kalbee, so I gave it to my wife. Afterwards, he
asked me: "Why haven't you worn the Coptic cloth? I replied: 'I gave
it to my wife.' The Prophet then said: "Tell her to wear a thick gown
under it (i.e., the Coptic garment) for I fear that it may describe
the size of her limbs." [Narrated by Ahmad, Al Bayhaqi & Al-Haakim]
4. Colour, Appearance and Demeanour....

For Afghanistan's women, Islam is the answer

After 20 years of ceaseless war and famine, the women of Afghanistan
must heal themselves, and ultimately their nation, by rediscovering
their identityas empowered, dignified Muslim women.
To many, such an assertion seems like an exact reversal of the truth.
After so much suffering, some think, the last thing these women need
is more of what apparently caused it. However, a brief look at history
and women's rightsthrough a correct understanding of Islam paints
quite a different picture.
It was Islam, in the 7th century, that established women's spiritual
and intellectual equality with men. Muslim women were granted the
right to vote, own property, inherit, receive a higher education and
even run a business in which men were subordinates.
These teachings were immediately put into practice, where 1,400
yearsago women played an active political role, not only voting for
their leader, but also advising him. The Prophet Mohammed's
wife,Khadijah, was one of the most successful businesswomen in Mecca,
employing many men, including at one point the Prophet himself. Aisha,
whom the Prophet marriedsome years after the death of Khadijah, became
a scholar of Islam. A man of the time described her by saying, "I have
not seen a greater scholar than Aisha in the learning of the Koran,
shares of inheritance, lawful and unlawful matters, poetry,
literature, Arab history and genealogy." It was not surprising, then,
when the world's first institution of higher education -- Al-Azhar
Islamic University, founded in Cairo in 969 A.D.-- was named after a
woman, Fatima al-Zahraa.
In fact, Islam gave women rights centuries ago not enjoyed by them in
our country today. For example, a Muslim woman is a totally separate
entity from her husband, not onlykeeping her family name as well as
all property she owned before marriage, but also maintaining total
ownership of any money or property she acquires after marriage. In
contrast, the general law in most states considers any wealtha woman
obtains during marriage as jointly owned by her and her husband.
Since Afghanis are predominantly Muslim, onewould expect their customs
to already reflect Islam's reverence of women. However, 20 yearsof war
has created a culture of force, where the physically weaker sex is
abused and seen as inferior, and where Islamic teachings are
superseded by tribal traditions.
The suppression of women's rights in Muslim countries is, of course,
not unique to Afghanistan, and neither are the reasons for it. Women's
oppression in many parts of the Muslim world is actually just one
symptom of a widespread decay of Islamic ideals and the subsequent
regression to pre-Islamic tribal culture.
This spiritual cancer has also resulted in the rise of corrupt
tyrannical rulers, the proliferation of usury inMuslim economies, the
growing gap between rich and poor and the emergence of nationalism.
Due to this misrepresentation of Islam, some have dismissed it as a
solution to the problems of women in Afghanistan. Instead, they argue
that this country is a hundred years overdue for a healthyhelping of
Western feminism. Many are under the impression that women's
liberation was a 20th-century Western development, and that gains in
women's status in other parts of the world are primarily as a result
of Western influence.
Certainly no one can deny the progress Western women have made since
the days of the English Common Law, which regarded a woman as the
legal property of her husband, barring her from owning property,
entering into contracts or even keeping her name. After centuries of
struggle, American women gained the right to vote in 1920 and British
married womengained the right to own property in 1935. Laws for equal
access to education and the workplace followed.
This relatively recent change in laws makes it quite clear that far
from being the pioneer of women's liberation, the West was actually a
thousand-years-late newcomer to this Islamic movement. What's more,
when laws in the West were finally corrected to give women their
equality, society was late to follow. It took generations to
alterpeople's beliefs about the status of women and affecttrue social
change.

Do Islam, Christianity, and Judaism have different Origins?

No. The original, unchanged revelations given to Abrahamic and other
prophets reaching back to Adam all came from the One True God. This
common origin explains their similarities inmany beliefs and values.
Abraham is mentioned in the Qur'an as one of the great Prophets and
was honored with the title,"Friend of God." Abraham and his eldest
son, Ishmael, were commanded by God to build a place of worship, the
Ka'bah, in what is today the city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
The Ka'bah is a simple stone construction erected as a sanctuary for
the worship of the One God. The Qur'an states that God commanded
Abraham to summon all humankind to visit this place, and when pilgrims
go there today they say "At your service, OLord," in response to
Abraham's call. The Ka'bah is the central place of worship toward
which all Muslims face in prayer to God, Almighty.

One of the finest of blessings is 'giving thanks to Allah'

People spend their entire lives in need of Allah. Fromthe air they
breathe to thefood they eat, from being able to use their hands and
feet to being able to speak, from finding shelterto laughter and
happiness, they need Allah's creationsand the things He bestowson them.
However, some people fail to realize their weakness and need of Allah.
They think that everything happens spontaneously, or that they acquire
the things they possess through theirown efforts and endeavors. This
is both a grave error and also terrible ingratitude toward Allah.
These people, who are ignorant even of how to thank someone who gives
them a small gift, spend their whole lives blind to the countless
blessings that Allah bestows on them. But the fact is that the
blessings bestowed by Allah are more numerous than can ever be
counted. Allah reveals this in a verse in the Qur'an:
If you tried to number Allah's blessings, you could never count them.
Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surat an-Nahl, 18)
Being Numbered amongThose Who Give Thanks to Allah Is a Characteristic
of Believers
Various blessings that people must give thanks to Allah for are
revealed inthe Qur'an, and they are reminded to give thanks time and
time again. These blessings include the way human beings arecreated
with a regular form, their being endowedwith the senses of sight and
hearing, Allah's teaching the True Religion to them, His revelation of
verses, His purification andcleansing of believers, His forgiving
their sins when they repent, His making worship easy, His
grantingvictory over unbelievers, believers being rescued from the
oppression of theunbelievers, His settling human beings on Earth and
giving them the means by which to live, the creation of water to
drink, the products of the soil, animals being placed at human beings'
service and disposal, the fruits of the sea, adornments, the ships on
the seas and the creation of night an
d day. As revealed in verse 18 of Surat al-Nahl, " If you tried to
number Allah's blessings, you could never count them. Allah is
Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful," it is impossible to count even the
different classes of Allah's blessings, let alone those blessings one
by one.
Giving thanks for a blessing means expressingone's happiness and
gratitude and appreciatingthe value of the blessing bestowed.
Giving thanks to Allah, on the other hand, is the expression of that
gratitude in one's heart and words, knowing that all blessings belong
to Himand that all things come from Him alone. The opposite of giving
thanks, however, is expressed in the Qur'an by the term "kufr,"
meaning ingratitude. This definitionalone is enough to show what an
important observance giving thanks is in the Sight of Allah and the
terrible situation that ignoring that obligation puts a person in.
Giving thanks to Allah is revealed as an important religious
obligation in many verses of the Qur'an.The importance of giving
thanks to Allah is mentioned in some 70 verses, and examples of people
who do and do notgive thanks are cited, and their respective ends are
described. Giving thanks toAllah is a proof that indicates one's faith
in Allah and the Oneness Of Allah. In one verse, "gratitude to Allah"
is described as one of the preconditions for "worshiping Him alone":
You who believe! Eat of the good things We have provided for you and
give thanks to Allah if you worship Him alone. (Surat al-Baqara, 172)
In other verses of the Qur'an, giving thanks to Allah is mentioned
alongside serving Allah, as the opposite of ascribing equals to Him:
It has been revealed to you and those before you: 'If you associate
others with Allah, your actions will come to nothing and you will be
among the losers.'
No! Worship Allah and be among the thankful. (Surat az-Zumar, 65-66)
Believers give thanks to Allah by reflecting on theirweakness and need
for all their blessings. Wealth and property are not the only
blessings believers give thanks to Allah for. Believers, who know that
Allah is the Lord and Ruler of all things, also give thanks for their
health, beauty, knowledge, intelligence, love of faith, the way they
regard idolatry as unpleasing, their being on the true path, their
living with other immaculate believers, and for their understanding,
comprehension and foresight. They immediately give thanks to Allah for
an attractive view or when their work comes easy, when something they
desire happens, when they hear a kind word, when they see love and
respect and for many other innumerable blessings, and they reflect on
His mercy and compassion, and on how He is the Rahman and Rahim (the
All-Merciful and Most Merciful).

Congregational Prayer

From amongst the lofty qualities of the Islamic Shari`ah is that it
has legislated many actions of worship to be done in congregation. The
Muslims gather that they may keep in contact with each other, come to
know each other, seek advice from one another, seek help in removing
any difficulties that they may be in and discuss various issues with
each other. This contains great benefit and many desirable points
which cannot be enumerated such as teaching the ignorant, helping the
needy, softening the heartsand manifesting the greatness of Islam. The
Divine Revelation endorses this understanding for when it prohibits
and commands it does not direct this prohibition to any specific
individual but to the congregation as a whole. Allah says,
O you who believe! Bow, prostrate and worship your Lord. Perform the
good so that you may be successful and perform Jihad in the way of
Allah as it should be done... [al-Hajj (22):77-78]
When the Muslim stands before Allah, intimately conversing with Him
and humbling himself before Him he does not speak as an individual
rather he speaks as one part of the whole. He says,
"You Alone do we worship and You Alone we ask for help" [al-Fatihah (1):5]
He does not say, 'it is only You I worship and it is onlyYour Aid I
seek.' Then he asks Him from His goodness and guidance buthe does not
ask for himself only, instead he says,
"Guide us to the Straight Path. The Path of those whom You have
guided, not [the path] of those who have earned [Your] anger nor those
who have gone astray" [al-Fatihah (1):6-7]
Indeed the congregational prayer is from the greatest of means to
removing sectarian differences and racism based upon ones colour, race
or land. Through the congregational prayer the Muslims attain mutual
love, respect and brotherhood. This because the elders become known and
are thereby respected, the poor and needy become known and are thereby
helped, the scholars become known and are thereby asked, and the
ignorant become known and are thereby taught.

Scientist Says 'Dinosaur Eggs' Found in Chechnya Actually Rocks

A Russian paleontologist on Thursday debunked a sensational report
about fossilized dinosaur eggs having been found in a rocky hillside
in Chechnya, saying the "eggs" were most likely just rocks.
No dinosaur bones have ever been found in Chechnya and eggs of the
size discovered would be a first, said Alexander Karkhuof the
Paleontology Institute, part of the Russian Academy of Sciences,
RIA-Novosti reported Thursday.
"It is definitely geology. Eggs of dinosaurs that size have never been
seen before. At the same time, there have been rather diverse
discoveries that look like eggs: spherical, oval, ellipsoid shapes
that are non-biological in origin," Karkhu said.
He said he had viewed video of the objects and was almost certain they
were not eggs.
Earlier this week, geologists from Chechen State University said they
had found about 40 objects ranging from 25 centimeters to 1 meter in
diameter that they thought were dinosaur eggs/

An event

Approaching the world with faith, love and kindness is not naive, as
some might say. Was the Prophet Muhammad (sws) naive? He suffered, but
he persevered. His mission was rooted in faith and love of Allah, and
expressed through kindness to all people. There are so many stories
about him showing tremendous kindness to rude and even murderous
people, and changing their hearts in the process. He succeeded in the
face of frightening, some might say impossible odds. His success is a
testament to the power of these noble emotions and behaviors.
Has your life ever been affected by someone else's kindness?

Over 100 killed as Pakistan jet crashes

A rescue worker sorts through the wreckage of the Boeing 737 passenger
plane that crashed in the outskirts of Islamabad, Pakistan, on Friday.
Over 100 bodies recovered so far, rescue workers not hopeful of
finding survivors
A private aeroplane with 127 people on board crashed near the federal
capital on Friday evening just as it was approaching the Benazir
Bhutto International Airport in Rawalpindi for landing.
With over 100 bodies recovered five hours after the crash and given
the condition of the dead, rescue workers were not hopeful of finding
any survivors from among the 121 passengers and six crew members on
board.
The aircraft of Bhoja Airways, B4-213, was flying in from Karachi and
lost contact with the Air Traffic Control at 6.40 p.m., just five
minutes before its scheduled landing time. Eyewitnesses claimed that
they heard a blast and sawa massive ball of fire as theaircraft
crashed into a farmland near the Chaklala Airbase of the Pakistan Air
Force. Debris of the fallen aircraft was strewn over a kilometre area
along with mangled bodies of the passengers and their belongings. The
flight data recorder (black box) has been recovered. There was no
clarity on the cause though technical experts said it could have been
caused by the bad weatherconditions.
Thunder, lightning
Around the time of the crash, the twin cities of Islamabad and
Rawalpindi were hit by thunder, lightning and a sudden cloud cover
that prematurely darkened the skies. With television channels trying
to out-paceeach other with speculations galore on the possible cause
of the crash,Bhoja Airways appealed to the media not to speculate even
as the coverage — particularly the "flaunting" of body parts and
personal belongings — evoked considerable outrage.
As soon as news broke of the crash, hospitals in the twin cities were
put on alert to deal with the emergency. However, with people crowding
the crash site and a heavy downpour, mile-long traffic jams were
reported on all approach roads; making it difficult for ambulances to
reach the spot. Residents of the area could be seen bringing bedsheets
from their homes tocover the bodies as the arrival of ambulances was
delayed. The Jama'at-ud-Dawa tweeted that they had set up a camp at
the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad and also sent
ambulances to the crash site.
According to Geo News, this Boeing 737 was over 27 years old and was
of a make that is no longer being used by the U.S., Europe and Gulf
countries.

Being an optimist 'may protect against heart problems'

Being cheerful may protect against heart problems, say US experts.
Happy, optimistic people have a lower risk of heart disease and
stroke, a Harvard School of Public Health review of more than200
studies - reported in Psychological Bulletin - suggests.
While such people may be generally healthier, scientists think a sense
of well-being may lower risk factors such as high blood pressure and
cholesterol.
Stress and depression have already been linked to heart disease.
The researcher from the Harvard School of Public Health trawled
medical trial databases to find studies that had recorded
psychological well-being and cardiovascular health.
This revealed that factors such as optimism, life satisfaction, and
happiness appeared to be linked associated with a reduced risk of
heart and circulatorydiseases, regardless of a person's age,
socio-economic status, smoking status or body weight.
Disease risk was 50% lower among the most optimistic individuals.
'Not proof'
Dr Julia Boehm and colleagues stress that their work only suggests a
link and is not proof that well-being buffers against heart disease.

The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said: "Let not
any one of you belittle himself.'They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, how
can any one of us belittle himself?' He said: He finds a matter
concerning Allah about which he should say something, and he does not
say it, so Allah `azza wa jall says to him on the Day of Resurrection:
'What prevented you from sayingsomething about such-and-such and
such-and-such?' He will say: '[It was] out of fear of people.' Then He
says: 'Rather it is I whom you should fear more.'"
[Ibn Majah, sahih (authentic) narration] /- - -

"Allah keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word, in worldly life and in the Hereafter. And Allah sends astray the wrongdoers. And Allah does what He wills." Surat 'Ibrahim [14:27]

Prophet (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) said:
"Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the day of Jumu'ah, will have a light
that will shine from him from one Friday to the next." (Narrated by
al-Haakim, 2/399; al-Bayhaqi, 3/249)
And this light means...either the light of guidance or eman in the
heart, or light in the grave, or light on the Day of Qiyamah! ♥
Why miss out then? It just takes 15 to 20 minutes insha Allah./- - -
